Full textIn order to manage the system-on-a-chip (SoC) increasing complexity, a promising way consists of the reuse concept of preconceived hardware or software blocks. An important aspect of a core’s marketability is its ability to be easily integrated into a SoC since IP must be usable in many different application contexts. Integrating Intellectual Property (IP) components into SoC design requires the use of a hardware/software interface. This PhD thesis deals with interconnection design between IP cores (Intellectual Property) in a System on Chip. This work was undertaken jointly in the team “IP Design” of the L. E. S. T. E. R laboratory of the UBS and the C. E. S Group of ENIS. To increase reuse efficiency, quality and productivity of SoC designs, we propose a design approach for packaging the cycle accurate and bit accurate (CA-BA) interface of hardware IPs. Dataflow application based IP are targeted in a SoC/MPSoC design context. This approach provides an interface modelling considering communication adaptation concepts/context. Graph formalism has been established to specify data traffic considering the cycle accurate behaviour at the IP interface and system requirements. Moreover, the approach is built around two main steps: checking compatibility and interface architecture generation. To realize communication adaptation, both the software part (“driver”) and the hardware part (the interface) are generated. A communication interface architecture generator has been implemented as a CAD tool called GIC. This tool is able to choose and to configure generic interface parameters according to applications constraints and system needs through graphs models. It also generates SystemC code of the specified interface for simulation and synthesisable VHDL code for synthesis. This work has been tested on a multimedia application (“pipeline 3D”). It shows that the adopted interface is independent of the use context and that the approach can be used for automating IPs integration

Full textThe aim of this thesis is the synthesis of new derivatives of β-carbolines interacting with the Central Nervous System (CNS) especially at the level of the GABAA receptor. In the first chapter, a new process for the synthesis of a β-carboline-3,4- γ-lactone, (R, S)-10-hydroxymethylbutanolide[3,4-c]-β-carboline using the technique of ortho-directed metallation, allows its preparation in a few steps and in a reproducible fashion. This result confirms the value of the ortho-metallation reaction for the introduction of substituants at the C-4 position of 3-carboxy-β-carbolines. In the second chapter, starting from the 4-iodo-β-carboline-3-carboxamide derivative prepared by ortho-metallation, the Suzuki coupling reaction was used to prepare a series of 4-aryl-β-carbolines-3-carboxamides, some of which were shown to bind to the GABAA receptor. In the third chapter, intramolecular cyclization by CH-ortho activation catalysed by palladium allowed the

Full textArchitecture exploration is a fundamental step in the design flow of embedded systems since the decisions made at this level have a significant impact on the final performance of the system. Applications and architectures have evolved and are still evolving, which increases the complexity of architecture exploration approaches. Indeed, these approaches have reached their own limits and are less efficient to handle applications which include a huge number of tasks and multiprocessor platforms with an increasing number of processors. In this PhD, to address this major lock, we discuss about the issue caused by multiprocessor architectures exploration with a high number of processors for applications that include many tasks. A study has been performed in order to identify and analyse design problems caused by these applications. A new architecture exploration approach has been implemented in order to overcome those problems. For that purpose a multi-PACM (Processor Accelerator Coprocessor Memory) architecture template has been established to represent both architectures specification and its new parameters (proximity, parallelism and software diversity). Our design space exploration approach is divided in two steps. The exploration step is preceded by a pre-exploration step which takes place at a higher level (functional) in order to reduce the architecture space as well as the exploration costs and complexity. Pre-exploration step consists in distributing tasks into the architecture’s PACMs. The distribution of tasks among the PACMs is called "partition". Pre-exploration step is a multi-objective optimisation aiming at maximising six metrics that have been defined and formalized. The purpose of these metrics consists in optimising the distribution of data exchanges, data sharing, and throughput constraints at the level of partitions in order to optimise the system time, area and consumption. Projecting time, area and consumption space used in traditional methods into a six-metric-based space allows the reduction of the exploration costs since metrics are less dependent on technology. This approach which is based on a genetic algorithm is flexible and helps the designer to enrich and guide the exploration process. UMTS transmitter, AC3 signal encoding and ICAM object tracking applications have been used to validate the metrics and their analysis through the genetic algorithm. They have also demonstrated the exploration approach and its ability to face with an extended design space, both from an application and an architecture point of view

Full textThis work aims to examine the role of linguistic mediation in writing and the possibilities of evaluation of this practice of language activity in the perspective of the development of the plurilingual and pluricultural activity enhancing the intercomprehension. The thesis reflects the path which has been taken from the beginning with a theoretical study of the concepts related to linguistic mediation (evaluation, certifications, mediation, synthesis as a writing task, reformulation, crosslinguistic influence, implicit, acquisition) and continuing with a mixed analysis (quantitative and qualitative) from copies of the writing test (exercise 1: Synthesis) in the exams of DALF C1 of France education international in May 2016 in Greece. During this analysis, the tendencies, factors and variants that determine the of the candidates’ performances on the test of linguistic mediation are studied and determined. At the end of this work, one new evaluation grid is accompanied by conclusions and discussions on the instructions of the synthesis as a writing exam but also on the role of the mediator and the context

Full textSystems on chip consists in a hardware part (an integrated circuit) and a software part (a program) that uses the hardware resources of the chip. Consequently, the embedded software is intrinsically connected to the chip hardware. Hardware acceleration components are key differentiation factors from one product to another. It is necessary to simulate systems on chip very early in the design flow; before the chip is physically available and even before its full specification. For such simulations, developers write a model of the system on chip in SystemC, at the TLM (Transaction Level Modeling) abstraction level. The hardware part of a chip consists in components that behave in parallel with each other. However, the reference SystemC simulator execute simulations sequentially. The sequential execution enables to keep good properties of SystemC simulations, namely reproducibility and ease of model writing. This thesis work address the parallel execution of SystemC/TLM simulations. The goal of parallel simulation is to speed up simulations, in the context of the model development, where it is important to quickly get results. In order to identify the performance problem of complex models at STMicroelectronics, the first step of this thesis was to analyse the execution profile of a case study, representative of the complexity of current platforms. For this study, we developed a trace recording and visualization tool. The results of this study indicated that the performance critical parts of the simulation are hardware acceleration components. Studying existing parallel simulation approaches led us to look for other parallel simulation techniques. To speed up the development of hardware acceleration components, and increase the reusability from one project to another, the HLS (High Level Synthesis) design flow is used, notably at STMicroelectronics. This design flow enables to generate a logically synthesizable model of a component, from a high level behavioral description in C/C++. This design flow also constraints the development: it is split in sub-functions, assembled in a pipeline. The code written for HLS must be re-used in SystemC/TLM models: this situation will become more and more frequent and there is no time to rewrite the models of such components within short delays. We developed a parallel simulation infrastructure enabling the integration and efficient simulation of hardware components written for HLS.We applied this infrastructure to an example platform, which resulted in speeding up the simulation. Beyond this result, one of the main conclusion of this thesis is that parallel simulation of abstract SystemC/TLM models will require to combine multiple parallelization techniques. Future research work can identify other types of potential parallelism in industrial models. This will become critical with the new challenges of simulation, as multi-physical simulations and internet of things

Full textThe increasing complexity of applications and technologies, together with the heavy integration constraints – small dimensions, low power consumption, radiation tolerence, real-time data processing – sets a challenge to the design and verification methodologies of onboard embedded systems. Current trends consider raising the abstraction level of system specification and reusing pre-designed, pre-verified hardware components known as virtual components, or Intellectual Property (IP) cores. This thesis proposes a unified Behavioral framework for simulation and high level synthesis of virtual component targeting DSP applications. The proposed approach is based on four main abstraction levels: algorithmic, architectural (communication interface), behavioral (I/O timing diagram), RTL. Our approach has been applied to the design of a multi-user detector component based on Hyper-plane Intersection and Selection (HIS) algorithm for MC-CDMA system
