Abstract:
In this work, the performance of the carbon doped compositionally complex alloy (CCA) MoNbTaW was studied under ambient and high pressure and high temperature conditions. TaC and NbC carbides were formed when a large concentration of carbon was introduced while synthesizing the MoNbTaW alloy. Both FCC carbides and BCC CCA phases were detected in the sample compound at room temperature, in which the BCC phase was believed to have only refractory elements MoNbTaW while FCC carbide came from TaC and NbC. Carbides in the carbon doped MoNbTaW alloy were very stable since no phase transition was obt

The Fe–C system, which is widely used to grow commercial high-pressure–high-temperature diamond monocrystals, is rather complicated due to the formation of carbides. The carbide Fe3C is a normal run product, but the pressure at which Fe7C3 carbide becomes stable is a subject of discussion. This paper demonstrates the synthesis of Fe7C3 carbide and its detailed study using single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, as well as electron probe micro-analysis and scanning electron microscopy. Cr2AlC, one of the ternary carbide families, was synthesized by a reactive hot pressing of CrCx (x=0.5) and Al powder mixture used as starting materials at the temperature range of 1200 oC~1400 oC under 25 MPa in Ar atmosphere. Fully dense Cr2AlC with high purity was synthesized by hot pressing CrCx and Al powder mixture at the temperature as low as 1200 oC. After synthesizing the bulk Cr2AlC, it was found that it has a typical layered structure as found in other ternary carbides such as Ti3AlC2 and Ti3SiC2. The average grain size of synthesized bulk Cr2AlC was varied in the range of 10-100 ㎛

Particle reinforced metal matrix composites have received considerable interest over many years and continue still under constant development to gain wider industrial applications. New technique of production of carbetos of refractory metals (WC, NbC, TaC, TaxNby) has been developed, synthesizing nanostructured carbides that show improvement of diverse properties of the materials to the gotten ones for the conventional processes. The properties of sintered composites are determined not only by the nature and quality of the raw materials employed but also by microstructure and porosity resultin

Morph-genetic synthesis, a preparation method using bio-structures as templates for fabricating micro-cellular materials, has attracted a considerable interest in recent years. In this report, we summarize our obtained results on synthesizing oxides and carbides based on wood templates (for TiC and SiC) and cotton templates (for Al2O3, SnO2 and SiC), respectively. The final products are observed to be faithfully retaining the micro-morphologies of their original natural counterparts, with the template bodies absolutely or partially replaced by the chemically synthesized compounds. In order to efficiently achieve the desirable properties the polymer matrix and nanoparticles must be optimised. The TiC nanoparticles were produced by sol-gel method and nanocomposites were obtained in situ, via the reaction and synthesizing of polyether-ester copolymer (PEE). The use of quartz glass substrate allows for obtaining information about the quality of the layers such the thickness and density, because of its high transparency. Reinforcement with nano-sized particles offers a promising potential to significantly enhance the mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties of a metal matrix composite (MMC). One of the challenges of synthesizing nanocomposites, however, has been the dispersion and control of the nano-reinforcement materials. In this study, a laminate nanocomposite has been synthesized by incorporating ultrasonic spray deposition technique. An ultrasonic spray deposition system was used to deposit nano-particles on substrate foils, which were consolidated to synthesize a laminate composite. Aluminum 6061

Abstract This paper delves into the application of nonmetallic (NM) materials in downhole environments, specifically assessing their use in Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) stages and components. This study reviews the current state of nonmetallic materials in ESP, highlighting technological advances and limitations. It critically evaluates nonmetallic alternatives' compatibility with ESP requirements in harsh environments, where corrosion and abrasion prevail.
