Abstract:
The theory of urban design has been adopted for years, but only a few researchers have extended their studies discussing value from the perspective of urban design review. This paper aims to understand the items of urban design review and to establish the value evaluating system of urban design review to catch the trend in controlling urban environmental quality. According to the difference of each urban’s stage, this study separates Taiwanese cities as metropolitan, regional, and local one, and compares six different city’s relative contents and seven different review items. From overview of the urban design evaluation system developing, the framework of the value evaluation system for urban design review considers 15 factors, classified into five categories: the richness of architectural patterns, diversity of ecological landscapes, accessibility of transportation, livability of society and culture, and sustainability of economy and industry. Thus some problems regarding urban design should be resolved, improve the completion of system planning by ecological methods, enable the implementation of a variety of public participation project, beautiful, and healthy city in the future.

Abstract:
Information systems actability theory builds on a communicative action perspective on IS. Information systems are seen as instruments for technology mediated work communication. Human actors are communicating (i.e. sending and/or receiving messages) through an information system. Information systems actability emphasises pragmatic dimensions of information systems. The paper presents 19 actability criteria divided into three groups: 1) criteria concerning user-system interaction, 2) criteria concerning user-through-system-to-user communication, and 3) criteria concerning information system’s contribution to workpractice processes. These actability criteria should be possible to use in design and evaluation of information systems.

Abstract:
In the light of growing global competition, organizations around the world today are constantly under pressure to produce high-quality products at an economical price. The integration of design and manufacturing activities into one common engineering effort has been recognized as a key strategy for survival and growth. Design for manufacturability (DFM) requires product designers to simultaneously consider the manufacturing issues of a product along with the geometrical and design aspects. In this paper, part manufacturability was analyzed in detail. An evaluation system of DFM was proposed. Product design can be guided according to feedback information by evaluating the part manufacturability.

Abstract:
This paper discusses a case study of a design and evaluation of a change management system at a large Telecommunications Corporation. The design and evaluation were done using the facilitated genetic algorithm (a parallel design method) and user decision style analysis. During the facilitated genetic algorithm the design team followed the procedure of the genetic algorithm. Usability was evaluated by applying user decision style analysis to the designed system. The design is compared with an existing system and with one designed by an analyst. The change management system designed by the facilitated genetic algorithm took less time to design and decision style analysis indicated it would be easier to use than the other two systems.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to presents an interactive conjoint analysis Web-based system that allows the problems of traditional conjoint analysis to be avoided. In the case of a product with lot of parameters, respondents’ tacit preferences may be difficult to understand for marketing analysis. To get a precise analysis, respondents must be allowed to reconsider and correct by themselves their evaluations with an adapted tool. Design/methodology/approach – This system also helps respondents to easily evaluate complex product profiles and to be involved in the evaluation process, which also leads to the creation of new knowledge for product design. As this system is designed for marketers and for respondents, this paper also presents the case of a product evaluation with attributes selectable by respondents. Findings – This paper is based on empirical experiment to obtain an efficient design of our system. The authors propose different evaluation scenario to usersto decide the design of our system. The authors want to include users in our evaluation process; however, we found that too much liberty for users can interfere with our objective. Originality/value – This paper present the design of our original system allowing to perform interactive conjoint analysis.

Abstract:
Although current efforts have indicated the need for design verification and evaluation systems, little has been done to develop knowledge representation systems for implementing this class of expert systems. In this paper, we describe CANDLE, a knowledge representation system built to solve design verification and evaluation problems. We define the class of design verification and evaluation systems and the functionality required of knowledge representation systems used to develop these systems. We present an example design verification and evaluation problem, illustrating how this problem imposes these functionality requirements on the knowledge representation system used. In the remainder of the paper we discuss CANDLE, a knowledge representation system created to develop design verification and evaluation systems. We show that CANDLE meets the knowledge representation requirements for this class of systems. We also present some of CANDLE'S functionality that exceeds the defined knowledge representation requirements and provides a knowledge engineer with the capability to expand the functionality of a design verification and evaluation system.

Abstract:
The security evaluation for an information network system is an important management tool to insure its normal operation. We must realize the significance of the comprehensive network security risks. A network evaluation model and the algorithm are presented and adapt the hierarchical method to characterize the security risk situation. The evaluation method is used to evaluate the key nodes and the mathematics is used to analyze the whole network security situation. Compared with others, the method can automatically create a rule-based security evaluation model to evaluate the security threat from the individual security elements and the combination of security elements, and then evaluation the network situation. It is shown that this system provides a valuable model and algorithms to help to find the security rules, adjust the security measure, improve the security performance and design the appropriate security risk evaluation and management tools.

Abstract:
System design and evaluation methodologies receive significant attention in natural language processing (NLP), with the systems typically being evaluated on a common task and against shared data sets. This enables direct system comparison and facilitates progress in the field. However, computational work on metaphor is considerably more fragmented than similar research efforts in other areas of NLP and semantics. Recent years have seen a growing interest in computational modeling of metaphor, with many new statistical techniques opening routes for improving system accuracy and robustness. However, the lack of a common task definition, shared data set, and evaluation strategy makes the methods hard to compare, and thus hampers our progress as a community in this area. The goal of this article is to review the system features and evaluation strategies that have been proposed for the metaphor processing task, and to analyze their benefits and downsides, with the aim of identifying the desired properties of metaphor processing systems and a set of requirements for their evaluation.

Abstract:
Most of the previously-tried prototype systems of digital holographic display are of front viewing flat panel-type systems having narrow viewing angle, which do not meet expectations towards holographic displays having more volumetric and realistic 3-dimensional image rendering capability. We have developed a tabletop holographic display system which is capable of 360° rendering of volumetric color hologram moving image, looking much like a real object. Multiple viewers around the display can see the image and perceive very natural binocular as well as motion parallax. We have previously published implementation details of a mono color version of the system, which was the first prototype. In this work, we present requirements, design methods, and the implementation result of a full parallax color tabletop holographic display system, with some recapitulation of motivation and a high-level design concept. We also address the important issue of performance measure and evaluation of a holographic display system and image, with initial results of experiments on our system.
