The Tanita body-fat analyser is a novel device to estimate body fat, based on the principles of bioelectrical impedance. It differs from other impedance systems which use surface electrodes in that the subjects stand bare-footed on a metal sole-plate which incorporates the electrodes, hence impedance is measured through the legs and lower trunk. In 104 men and 101 women (16–78 years and BMI 16–41 kg/m2) the mean bias in body-fat mass measured using the Tanita body-fat analyser was 0·8 (2SD 7·9) KG RELATIVE TO A FOUR-COMPARTMENT MODEL. In the literature, diffusion studies of cell systems are usually limited to two water pools that are associated with the extracellular space and the entire interior of the cell. Therefore, the time-dependent diffusion coefficient contains information about the geometry of these two water regions and the water exchange through their boundary. This approach is due to the fact that most of these studies use pulse techniques and relatively low gradients, which prevents the achievement of high b-values. As a consequence, it is not possible to register the signal coming from proton populations with

Abstract This paper focuses on the derivation and simulation of mathematical models describing new plasma fraction in blood for patients undergoing simultaneous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and therapeutic plasma exchange. Models for plasma exchange with either veno-arterial or veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation are considered. Two classes of models are derived for each case, one in the form of an algebraic delay equation and another in the form of a system of delay differential equations. In special cases, our models reduce to single compartment ones for plasma exchange th

As a glucose analog, FDG is transported into malignant cells which typically exhibit an increased radioactivity. However, different from glucose, FDG is not reabsorbed by the renal system and is excreted to the bladder.
