The thesis examines this issue along two main themes. The first part of this study examines whether two of the commonly used measures of banking stability, the CAMELS and the Z-Score, provide similar or different results in assessing the stability of banks in Ghana. The results of this study show that the use of the CAMELS and the Z-score measures could lead to different outcomes in terms of bank stability in Ghana. This suggests that the tradit

Abstract:
The promotion of access to finance is considered as a top priority agenda in many countries. Finding the related and strong factors to enhance financial inclusion is therefore becoming crucial. Despite many studies on the factors associated with financial inclusion, the role of financial system has not been well explored. Leyshon & Thrift (1995) shed new lights on this issue by stating that “Although the criteria for exclusion may vary over time, the financial system has an inherent tendency to discriminate against poor and disadvantaged groups”. This thesis, therefore investigates the role of

Abstract:
In this paper, we analyse the relation between financial system and financial crises. Our goal is to find how, on the one hand, changes in the financial system affect the prospects for financial crises and, on the other hand, how the occurrence of financial crises shape the core elements of the financial system. We start by defining the financial crisis from three different perspectives. After it, we present the comprehensive history of financial crises that will allow us to continue by drawing some common patterns that are universal. Universal patterns in crises give us the ground for contemp

Abstract:
On-line safety monitoring, i.e. the tasks of fault detection and diagnosis, alarm annunciation, and fault controlling, is essential in the operational phase of critical systems. Over the last 30 years, considerable work in this area has resulted in approaches that exploit models of the normal operational behaviour and failure of a system. Typically, these models incorporate on-line knowledge of the monitored system and enable qualitative and quantitative reasoning about the symptoms, causes and possible effects of faults. Recently, monitors that exploit knowledge derived from the application o

The interlock and control system is responsible for ensunng that nobody enters the treatment vault during an irradiation, the extraction of the beamstop devices 'from the beam-line to allow the irradiation of the patient and the insertion of those beam-stop devices when an error condition is detected. Abstract:
This dissertation analyzes the development of the Chinese financial system from different perspectives. It has shed light on the recent advancements of the last decade. Overall, the findings reveal a contrasted picture of the progress achieved towards an efficient system. Chapter 1 has shown that the corporate bond market is still impeded by government influence. Based on this evidence, it is thus very unlikely to expect the banking system to decrease its dominance on the financial system. Chapter 2 also stressed that internal governance mechanisms remain imperfect. By analyzing the market pri
