Abstract:
This study presents a specification for the design of file system performance metrics. Standard system performance evaluation techniques involve the use of checkpoints imposed at the application layer. These checkpoints are part of a synthetic mix of programs, usually part of a benchmark, used to exercise a system. These evaluations compile system data, but in most cases only collect general information on the I/O subsystem. An important aspect of the I/O subsystem is a file system. In most performance studies the file system is measured based on system calls such as read, write, and delete. However, a file system is composed of many algorithms that perform the file system management duties. This study isolates those functions that compose a file system. It is important to provide a testing environment that isolates the subsystem used in the study. This study provides a controlled environment for data collection with the use of an operating system that allows the coexistence of multiple file systems. Based on this feature, a virtual model was developed as a specification for the design of checkpoints used to collect the appropriate raw data. This 'data was then studied and analyzed. This study presents an implementation under the Linux Virtual File System model based on the virtual model design. This implementation was used to collect and present data on performance of several of the Linux file system implementations. This study shows that a controlled specification designed into the multiple file system support layer of an operating system provides: (J) a file system independent checkpoint that cannot be altered by the file system; (2) more file system related data by collecting information on most file system functions; and (3) a means for measuring file systems under live loads as well as synthetic loads.

Abstract:
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 28-31, 1985 / Riviera Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada<br>This paper is concerned with the concept and development of cost effective methods for determining sensor-to-user system performance under simulated real world conditions. Many system elements involved in the digital pre- and post- processing functions found in telemetry systems are designed to operate primarily on error free data. The presence of bit errors drastically alters the performance of these elements: data compressors pass noise, E.U. converters produce subtle and wild data variations, and embedded voice channels become overly noisy. This paper identifies the digital areas affected by noise in modern systems, categorizes their susceptability, and suggests laboratory simulation techniques that may identify problems prior to mission data flow.

Abstract:
Ce flot a été appliqué à différentes études de cas, notamment à une application de reconnaissance d'image déployée sur la plateforme multi-cœurs STHORM<br>In the present work, we tackle the problem of modeling and evaluating performance in the context of embedded systems design. These have become essential for modern societies and experienced important evolution. Due to the growing demand on functionality and programmability, software solutions have gained in importance, although known to be less efficient than dedicated hardware. Consequently, considering performance has become a must, especially with the generalization of resource-constrained devices. We present a rigorous and integrated approach for system-level performance modeling and analysis. The proposed method enables faithful high-level modeling, encompassing both functional and performance aspects, and allows for rapid and accurate quantitative performance evaluation. The approach is model-based and relies on the $mathcal{S}$BIP formalism for stochastic component-based modeling and formal verification. We use statistical model checking for analyzing performance requirements and introduce a stochastic abstraction technique to enhance its scalability. Faithful high-level models are built by calibrating functional models with low-level performance information using automatic code generation and statistical inference. We provide a tool-flow that automates most of the steps of the proposed approach and illustrate its use on a real-life case study for image processing. We consider the design and mapping of a parallel version of the HMAX models algorithm for object recognition on the STHORM many-cores platform. We explored timing aspects and the obtained results show not only the usability of the approach but also its pertinence for taking well-founded decisions in the context of system-level design

Thesis (MTech (Business Management))--Peninsula Technikon, 2003.<br>This dissertation sets out to develop a Performance Management System for the Greater Stellenbosch Municipality. It is proposed for use as a unit of analysis. The system provides a framework for determining developmental priorities and identifying the appropriate resources. The system monitors progress and simultaneously serves as an instrument that maintains municipal accountability for the delivery of its core developmental functions. Internationally, an infinite number of research projects in the field of performance management and best practices for organisational performance have been undertaken for local authorities. This includes a range of terms extending from the 1950's, known as benchmarking, to the current context where the balance scorecard has been put on the performance agenda. The emphasis for increased and accountable performance of local authorities is currently on the foreground, because local authorities are now responsible for executing duties in the form of developmental outputs.

Abstract:
The DICOM-conformant PACS of the MGH was subjected to a performance study. The goal was to develop the tools needed to extract meaningful, quantitative measures related to performance with a view towards establishing reliable indicators that can help identify design weaknesses and performance changes over time. Efforts focused on operational scenarios such as moving images from servers to workstations, automatic routing and prefetching tasks. The performance of each process underlying these scenarios was studied using residency timing combined with a web-based monitoring system to yield quantitative data from various low-level resources on each server. While the critical processes and hardware on the PACS were already monitored to identify faults, the tools developed in this study now provide the means to assess overall performance issues. The results have yielded insights that have helped to identify faulty and inefficient logic in certain program constructs, and suggestions for design improvement and software enhancement.<br>Le PACS du HGM a été soumis à des études de performance.

Abstract:
Thesis (Ph. D.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2001.<br>Includes bibliographical references (p. 173-187).<br>As the critical dimensions in VLSI design continue to shrink, system performance of integrated circuits (ICs) will be increasingly dominated by interconnect delay [1]. For the technology generations approaching 50 nm and beyond, innovative system architectures and interconnect technologies will be required to meet the projected system performance [2]. Interconnect material solutions such as copper and low-k inter-level dielectric (ILD) offer only a limited improvement in system performance. Significant and scalable solutions to the interconnect delay problem will require fundamental changes in system design, architecture, and fabrication technologies. Three-dimensional (3-D) ICs can alleviate interconnect delay problems by offering flexibility in system design, placement and routing. They (3-D ICs) can be formed by vertical integration of multiple device layers using wafer bonding, recrystallization, or selective epitaxial growth. The flexibility to place devices along the vertical dimension allows higher device density and smaller form factor in 3-D ICs. The critical signal path that may limit system performance can also be shortened to achieve faster clock speed. By 3-D integration, device layers fabricated with different front-end process technologies can be stacked along the 3rd dimension to form systems-on-a-chip [3]. In this thesis work, opportunities and challenges for 3-D integration of logic networks, microprocessors, and programmable logic have been explored based on system-level modeling and analysis. A stochastic wire-length distribution model has been derived to predict interconnection complexity in 3-D ICs. As more device layers are integrated, the 3-D wire-length distribution becomes narrower compared to that of 2-D ICs, resulting in a significant reduction in the number and length of semi-global and global wires. In 3-D ICs with 2-4 device layers, 30% - 50% reduction in wire-length can be achieved. Besides performance modeling, thermal analysis has also been performed to assess power dissipation and heat removal issues in 3-D ICs. The total capacitance associated with signal interconnects and clock networks can be reduced by 3-D integration, leading to lower power dissipation for system performance comparable to that of 2-D ICs. However, for higher system performance in 3-D ICs, power dissipation increases significantly, and it is likely that innovative cooling techniques will be needed for reliable operation of devices and interconnects.<br>by Arifur Rahman.<br>Ph.D.

Doughty, Shaun Raymond. "Development and performance evaluation of a multistatic radar system." Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2008. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/1444153/.

Abstract:
Multistatic radar systems are of emerging interest as they can exploit spatial diversity, enabling improved performance and new applications. Their development is being fuelled by advances in enabling technolo gies in such fields as communications and Digital Signal Processing (DSP). Such systems differ from typical modern active radar systems through consisting of multiple spatially diverse transmitter and re ceiver sites. Due to this spatial diversity, these systems present challenges in managing their operation as well as in usefully combining the multiple sources of information to give an output to the radar operator. In this work, a novel digital Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) based coherent multistatic radar system designed at University College London, named 'NetRad', has been developed to produce some of the first published experimental results, investigating the challenges of operating such a system, and determining what level of performance might be achievable. Full detail of the various stages involved in the combination of data from the component transmitter-receiver pairs within a multistatic system is investigated, and many of the practical issues inherent are discussed. Simulation and subsequent experimental verification of several centralised and decentralised detec tion algorithms in terms of localisation (resolution and parameter estimation) of targets was undertaken. The computational cost of the DSP involved in multistatic data fusion is also considered. This gave a clear demonstration of several of the benefits of multistatic radar. Resolution of multiple targets that would have been unresolvable in a conventional monostatic system was shown. Targets were also shown to be plotted as two-dimensional vector position and velocities from use of time delay and Doppler shift information only. A range of targets were used including some such as walking people which were particularly challenging due to the variability of Radar Cross Section (RCS). Performance improvements were found to be dependant on the type of multistatic radar, method of data fusion and target characteristics in question. It is likely that future work will look to further explore the optimisation of multistatic radar for the various measures of performance identified and discussed in this work.

Abstract:
Analog frequency modulated (FM) systems offer advantages of reliable speech quality and simplicity, whereas code division multiple access (CDMA) systems promise high capacity, resistance to multipath fading, and simplified frequency planning. In this thesis, we investigate the performance of a wireless local loop (WLL) system that uses the frequency modulation with the CDMA technique. The performance of the FM CDMA system is affected by the choice of the frequency demodulation method. Performance of different state-of-art DSP based FM demodulators is evaluated. Design improvements with threshold extension, pre-deemphasis, and voice companding techniques are explored, and the limitations of the DSP based FM demodulation methods are identifed. The transmitter, the channel, and the receiver of the FM CDMA system are simulated for particular values of FM bandwidth and spread-spectrum processing gain. The capacity supported by the FM CDMA sysem is estimated with different levels of orthogonal as well as non-orthognal multiple access interference. The performance of the FM CDMA system in AWGN, multipath fading, Doppler spread, and nonlinear signal processing effects is predicted. A power control algorithm for the FM CDMA system is proposed, and its effect on the system performance is studied. The capacity of the FM based wireless system may saturate as the system evolves. An adaptive FM CDMA interference cancelation technique and a digital modulation with CDMA are two approaches investigated as ways to improve system capacity.<br>Master of Science

The work presented in this thesis addresses the area of mobile cellular broadband communications and encompasses the utilization of a prototype developed in the framework of the European project SAMBA. This prototype has as main innovative characteristics the transmission rates, the frequency band of operation, the mobility and the radio handover protocols. Initially are described aspects related with the historical evolution of the mobile communications and presented fundamental theoretical concepts to understand the behaviour of the radio channel and the propagation mechanisms. The different types of fading are identified as well as the various parameters that allow the characterisation of the radio channel. The fading impact and its mitigation techniques are presented to contextualise the work developed in terms of the specification of the features implemented in the prototype and the options available. The global characteristic of the prototype are presented namely the radio interface, the architecture, the RF modules, the baseband modules, protocols and the algorithm for the radio handover. The prototype was evaluated in various scenarios with different characteristics. In the outdoor scenario a canyon type street was analysed. Several heights of the Base Station, antenna tilting angles, Mobile Terminal velocities, operation in line-of-sight and non line-of-sight and the penetration of the signal in a transversal street. In the indoor scenario similar measurements were performed. The handover feature was analysed just for this scenario due to logistic reasons. In a first phase the coverage provided by each Base Station was analysed and subsequently activated the handover functionality. Studies using a single Base Station to cover the whole pavilion were also performed. In terms of broadband analysis, channel impulse response measurements were performed using a frequency domain technique in two scenarios and complemented by others analysed only using a ray tracing simulation tool. The relationship between the radio channel Delay Spread and the Coherence Bandwidth was analysed in different scenarios and the possible violation of the Fleury lower bond checked. As a consequence of the several topics covered in this thesis, a deep study of the aspects related with the behaviour of the radio channel in the 40 GHz band and the performance of the technical options implemented in the prototype is presented in the framework of 4G mobile communication systems.

Thanasoulas, Sotirios. "Evaluation of CO2 Ice rink heat recovery system performance." Thesis, KTH, Energiteknik, 2018. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kth:diva-245233.

Full text
Abstract:
Ice rinks are the largest energy consumers in terms of public buildings due to their simultaneous need of cooling, heating, ventilation, and lighting for different parts of the building which means that these facilities also have a lot of potential for energy saving. Due to the size of the cooling unit in an ice rink the refrigerant charge can become quite high, which potentially has a big impact on the environment. CO2 refrigeration units could cover all these challenges that are linked to ice rink operation. CO2 as a refrigerant has a very low impact on the environment and at the same time it could provide enough energy to cover the heating demands of an ice rink. CO2-based systems should operate in trans-critical mode which affects the performance of the refrigeration system, but by using the released heat that otherwise would be rejected to the ambience the total energy consumption becomes lower. The process of heat recovery is therefore vital for an efficient system. The refrigeration unit can produce enough energy to cover all the heating demands of an ice rink, but only when the heat recovery is controlled properly. The energy recovery method is very important, but it should also be tailored in order to cover all demands. This is because all the subsystems, i.e. demands, have different temperature and load requirements. The energy could be recovered in one or two stages from the refrigeration system. However, hardware is not enough in order to achieve proper operation, the system should also operate in the best conditions (discharge pressure and subcooling) in order to be efficient. The more proper operation, the less energy consumption.  This energy recovery method could also be used as subcooling in climates where the ambient temperature is very high, making CO2 a very efficient solution. Regular refrigerants are still often used in warm countries despite their high environmental impact. A refrigeration system using natural refrigerants and more specific CO2 does not have constraints, however.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to find the organizational practices in place for the performance evaluation of temporary employees and how that varies from permanent employees. Method – The study takes an inductive and interpretive approach to find out the unknown practices. The study is conducted over 7 respondents from different organizations split between recruitment agencies and client organizations and represents practices maintained by both set of industries. Findings – The study identifies low standardization in performance evaluation and discusses the variance from literature over the subject matter. Also a model is drawn based on the amalgamation of literary review and empirical results. Implications – The study presents variance in the processes for temporary employees and the prime areas where the variance occurs. For the organizations to have fair and just performance management system and for equality towards temporary employees, these issues must be addressed. Limitations – Cultural practices are not taken into consideration and literature might be based on different cultural practices than the respondents country and for a wholesome study, more respondents might be needed.

<p>Throughout recent years, legislations concerning emission levels for vehicles have become more restrictive and will be even more restrictive in the future. In the recent European environmental standards, EURO 4 (2006) and EURO 5 (2008), further requirements have been added on top of low emission demands. All heavy duty trucks have to be equipped with an OBD-system. Scania CV AB has today an existing OBD-system that consists of several tests. Typically, a test is designed to check if a signal is inside specified limits or thresholds. To improve the system, Scania CV AB and Vehicular Systems at Linköping University have developed a method to design diagnosis systems in an automatic way, implemented in a toolbox called DSAME.</p><p>In this thesis, an automatic designed OBD-system has been created with DSAME and the corresponding parts in a manually designed OBD-system have been identified. The two systems have been compared. The result shows that both systems are equally at detecting faults but the automatic designed OBD-system is a lot better to isolate the faults than the existing OBD-system.</p>

Abstract:
In this thesis, we construct traffic models, which exhibit both short-range dependence (SRD) and long-range dependence (LRD) using Poisson process and doubly stochastic Poisson (or Cox) process (DSPP) driven by fractional Brownian motion (FBM). We also develop a novel dynamic system model for the token bucket (TB) control algorithm used in computer networks. In this model, token buckets police incoming traffic; and one multiplexor serving all the token pools multiplexes conforming traffic using round robin scheme. The state of the system is formally defined and control strategies are also proposed. We study several issues related to performance corresponding to different stochastic inputs using the proposed model located at the edge of the backbone network. The numerical results demonstrate that this system can be adapted to any kind of stochastic traffic. The results can be served as a tool for the designers of such controllers to set up different system parameters.

Abstract:
This thesis uses the protocols of IEEE 802.15 (BLUETOOTH) and IEEE 802.11b (WLAN) to develop a BLUETOOTH radio system model on an OPNET platform. Typically, the wireless model is a simple model of BLUETOOTH technology implemented in C programming language, and assisted by the MATLAB programming language. In the environment, the WLAN, piconets, medical or microwave facilities may affect the performance of the BLUETOOTH system. In this thesis, IEEE 802.11b WLAN and piconets will be investigated and implemented as the interference sources in the simulation environment. The goal of the radio simulation is to explore the voice performance, under the limitations and restrictions of the current BLUETOOTH technology specifications. The performance is evaluated in terms of packet throughput, which is the packet loss rate of BLUETOOTH, and the quality of voice in terms of the MOS rating. This simulation will hopefully help the BLUETOOTH system designers and decision-makers in gaining insight into the system performance analysis and enable them to get a better solution for some designing issue.

碩士<br>國立雲林科技大學<br>營建與物業管理研究所<br>97<br>In recent years, the service industry spreads fast and competes flamingly. So is the property management industry. It is more difficult to survive during the economical depressed caused by the financial crisis for “Property management Industry”, a kind of orthodox service industry. So it has to promote its efficiency to respond the trend and the Plan. Therefore, “Property management industry” bound to improve the operational performance to survive. Harvard Business Review (HBR) mentioned that the enterprise could apply Balanced Scored card (BSC) to monitor the performance during the economical depressed. In the past, the performance evaluating put too much emphasis on the financial performance, but BSC specifies the strategies of the organization and simultaneously stresses the balance of the performance of financial and non-financial. Based on the above discussion, the research builds a performance evaluation system of “Property management Industry ” in Taiwan. Furthermore, based on the features of property management industry, we have not only built an internal performance evaluating module, but also built an external performance evaluating module, and integrated the two modules into a complete performance evaluation system. In this research, the researcher has built the more suitable KPI for us in Taiwan, based on the foreign property management industry and by many expert interviews. The indicator weight was decided by the Analysis Network Processing (ANP) and the questionnaires filled out by the experts. The researcher has also built a friendly user interface to make the proprietors and the superintendents use easily. In this system, it also imported FUZZY Algorithms to evaluate the performance comprehensively, and calculated a precise grades of performance. After completing the performance evaluation system, we applied it to a case property management company in Taiwan and confirmed the availability. We expect that property management companies in Taiwan can apply this performance evaluation system to monitor their operating performances, reach the purposes of assisting decision-making and advance the competition power.

Based on the responses received and using the technology elements of several proposals (plus some development work carried out inside the DVB-H group) a full DVB-H concept has been composed by combining elements in the Physical and Link layers. The DVB-H group took into account the guidance and requests set by the DVB-TM and DVB-SB for the new standard. Although the DVB-T transmission system has proven its ability to serve fixed, portable and mobile terminals; handheld terminals (defined as light-weight, battery-powered apparatus) require specific features from the transmission system serving them: • The transmission system shall offer the possibility to repeatedly turn the power off to some parts of the reception chain. This will reduce the average power consumption of the receiver. • The transmission system shall ensure it is easy for receivers to move from one transmission cell to another while maintaining the DVB-H service. • For a number of reception scenarios; indoor, outdoor, pedestrian and inside a moving vehicle, the transmission system shall offer sufficient flexibility and scalability to allow the reception of DVB-H services at various speeds, whilst optimizing transmitter coverage. • As services are expected to be delivered in environments that suffer high levels of man-made noise, the transmission system shall offer the means to mitigate their effects on the performance of the receiving terminal. • As DVB-H aims to provide a generic way to serve handheld terminals in various part of the world, the transmission system shall offer the flexibility to be used in various transmission bands and channel bandwidths.

In order to increase the spectral efficiency in wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) systems, one approach is to reduce the channel spacing between the individual WDM channels. Nyquist WDM systems required to realize the Nyquist bandwidth by using the filter to limit the bandwidth. However, implementing such kind of high precision and narrow Nyquist filters are the challenge and complex technologies. This master thesis intends to utilize the SINC waveform in time domain which is modulated with pseudo random binary sequence (PRBS) to pack the information in the Nyquist bandwidth, and realizes the rectangular spectrum in the frequency domain. It means that it can realize the rectangular spectrum without using any filter to shape the spectrum in the frequency domain.

To increase the mobility and to reduce the power consumption of receiver embedded in handheld device, DVB-H also adds two key technologies, namely the MPE-FEC and Time-Slicing on Data-Link Layer. This paper will first illustrate the system concept and progress of DVB-H, and proceed to elaborate on the differences on Physical Layer between DVB-T/H. The technology of MPE-FEC is the most important item in which this dissertation will focus on. By the convenience of technical computing software Matlab, the Simulink has intuitive modeling environment and well maintaining platform. This simulating platform was built to analyze performance before and after adding MPE-FEC. According to the simulation results, the inclusion of MPE-FEC technique can serve to improve the performance of the system.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立東華大學<br>電機工程學系<br>92<br>Bluetooth is a recently developed short range wireless communication system. Two characteristics, low powerful transmission and plug-and-play, are very useful for high mobility or less power consumption wireless equipments. Therefore, as Bluetooth technique grows up year by year, it becomes a required technique built in many kinds of electrical products, such as mobile phone, PDA, and printer, in the market. It is no doubt that Bluetooth products will develop vigorously and make a lot of Bluetooth piconet exist in the same area in the future. Moreover, the probability of the transmission of Bluetooth packet interfered by the co-channel interference between the piconets will be much higher. In November 2003, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group announced the specification of Bluetooth system, vision 1.2, and they proposed the adaptive hopping selection which used Link Manage Protocol to determine the link in order to avoid the co-channel interference. However, this thesis focuses on the performance in physical layer of Bluetooth which adds the beamforming algorithm of smart antenna system including the dominant DOA approach and the pseudoinverse DOA approach. The result shows that under the co-channel interference, the BER of using the smart antenna is better than that of not using it. Obviously, by virtue of the beamforming algorithm, we can improve the fading phenomenon due to multipath, increase the gain of signal, and suppress the co-channel interference between different devices. Finally, the smart antenna can boost the communication quality of Bluetooth system.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立清華大學<br>資訊工程學系<br>87<br>With the vast advances in the computing power of processors, computers are processing data that are more and more time-intensive (e.g., on-line transaction) and voluminous (e.g., multimedia). But, on the other hand, I/O speed of the peripherals could not maintain the same rate of improvement. This thus creates bottlenecks in the computers when processing I/O. Another problem with current I/O device development is that it is often necessary to develop a specific device driver for each different host OS and the drivers are not flexible and extensible in terms of functionality. The new I/O architecture, I2O, was introduced to solve the above problems. I2O splits a traditional driver into two parts. One is host OS dependent (OSM) and the other is hardware device relative (DDM), which is run in the I/O platform (IOP). The IOP contains a processor, memory and real time OS. It can off-load the host processor to eliminate the I/O bottleneck. With I2O, the I/O device driver can be made more portable across different operating systems and allows easy integration of new functionality. In this thesis, we study the internals of I2O and provide a driver implementation guide of DDM. Performance of using I2O in a web server setting is also evaluated. According to our experiment results, the server with I2O can handle more interrupts per second and gain higher data transmission rate. Additionally, the throughput of the server in responding to the requests and the rate of handling requests per second can all be improved with the help of I2O.

碩士<br>大葉大學<br>資訊管理研究所<br>89<br>In the influences of market globalization and technology fast changing, the enterprise will be edged out if it reply only on it’s own resource .The strategic alliance is a good way that enterprise can get more resources and improves it’s ability. Most enterprises in Taiwan are medium/miniature-sized enterprises. When Taiwan join in the WTO in the near further, the enterprise in Taiwan will face a large of tough competitor from all over the world. Therefore, all of enterprises hope to collaborate with other enterprises to improve their business ability. That is, strategic alliance is an important strategy for Taiwan enterprises to become international enterprises. By the impaction of difference culture among the enterprises or alliance member’s trust, strategic alliance always cannot achieve their expectant goals. That mean, it needs a performance evaluation method to identify the problems and improve the performance. Furthermore factors for performance evaluation of strategic alliance are often subjective and qualitative, but traditional numerical evaluation methods have some troublesome in this subjective and qualitative evaluation. Thus a method use of fuzzy sets to evaluate management performance of strategic alliance is proposed. This method is adaptive and simple in terms of evaluation and computation. It allows the evaluators to evaluate the performance directly using linguistic terms, and can add or change evaluation criterion, as they want.

碩士<br>明新科技大學<br>電機工程研究所<br>97<br>The progressive exhaustion of traditional fossil energy sources and the rise of environmental protection have increased public interest in integrating solar energy sources into the existing power systems of industrial users as an auxiliary power source. Solar intensity and building shadows are two important factors affecting the power generation of a PV module. To achieve the maximum performance of a PV generation system, the effects of building shadows on PV module output should be carefully evaluated before industrial users set up the system. This study investigates the effects of building shadows on the level of power generated by a PV generation system. First, the azimuth angle and angle of elevation of sunlight were calculated. Building shadows were calculated based on architecture theories. Next the output of a PV module was calculated based on the location of the PV module in relation to building shadows. This study also develops a computer program to calculate the annual output produced by a PV generation system. Numerical examples demonstrate the effects of building shadows on this output. The calculations in this study also account for the time-of-use rate structure of the Taiwan Power Company to determine the economic benefits of annual PV generation. The results of this study can serve as a reference for a time-of-use rates electricity user wanting to build a new PV generation system.

We also discuss that the quantization values of the turbo decoder is in the white Gaussian noise. The thesis mainly is to investigate the recursive systematic convolution code of the turbo code. We use the Log-MAP algorithm in the white noise channel environment to change the code rate, the generator polynomial and modulation type. What is the effect in the overall signal transmission? The numerical results show that in the condition of signal to noise ratio (Eb / No) of less than 2, 4 or more iterations, increasing the turbo code rate can obtain better bit error rate. It can be improved in the low SNR to maintain the transmission quality of the system.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立成功大學<br>土木工程學系碩博士班<br>94<br>Few indicators such as schedule progress or subjective judgment are used to evaluate construction performance. In recent years, studies try to create ways and measures to evaluate performance, but, validation is lacking. This research was aimed at validating the effectiveness and accuracy of the construction performance evaluation system, developed for the Public Construction Commission(PCC) in 2002. Seven real projects were selected to verify the 17 measures of the PCC’s system for 9 months from 2005 to 2006. Each project was evaluated at three points during the process: the early, middle, and finishing phase. Taking into consideration of the roles of the people scoring, personal subjectiveness, and the scale of the project, in order to validate the indicators, the scores of the measures in each phase reflect their effectiveness in sensitivity, appropriateness, weight, range, and quantity. Finally, those scores were compared with those evaluated by quality inspection of PCC, and the results confirmed the effectiveness of the studied measurement. The results of the above tests illustrate that the PCC’s evaluation system can distinguish the level of construction performance. In addition, research-interviewed participants commonly recognized that this mechanism could help them grasp key points and avoid purely subjective evaluation with a user-friendly interface. This research also found that the PCC’s system, ideal in design for large public work projects, seemed complicated for small and medium sized projects. Accordingly, two new modified models were proposed, to better fit the needs of small and medium sized projects. By reducing several indicators, the resulted evaluation system could comply effectively with the scale of the project, show acceptable quality and accuracy to the original 17 measure system.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣科技大學<br>工業管理系<br>103<br>Synchronized zone picking systems are pick-and-sort order picking systems, where items of orders in the same batch are processed simultaneously in different zones by a group of labors. After retrieval, these items are accumulated in the buffer area according to their associated batches. These consolidated batches then enter the sorting station to be classified into individual customer orders. In the picking process, an approximate model based on queueing theory is developed to estimate the expected throughput time of a batch from the arrival to departure of the zone picking area. In this model, the service times in zones can follow any probability distributions. In the sorting process, an analytical method is used to evaluate the expected time from a batch of items into individual customer orders, where the scan time to distinguish each item is assumed to be constant. The two proposed methods in the two processes are validated by simulation studies to check the accuracy. These provided models will help system designers to measure the effect of the number of zones, the batch size and the number of orders in one batch.

Especially in the electronics industry, organization performance is greatly discussed and emphasized. With the fast product updating speed in the electronics industry, the best allocation with limiting resources to achieve better performance plays an important role. However, although there are many financial indexes to measure business performance, complex calculation and analysis by professional analysts are still needed. For this reason, we develop a business performance evaluation decision support system, which can assist managers in making decision and querying the critical financial information. The system is composed of a database, a knowledgebase and a model base. In order to evaluate business performance, we collect the financial and non-financial indexes based on the past researches and 15 performance indexes for the electronics industry in Taiwan have been selected by using a two-phase AHP survey. Finally, we use practical historical financial and non-financial data as the sample to evaluate enterprise performance and provide suggestions or alternatives for decision making.

Abstract:
A performance appraisal (PA) or performance evaluation is a systematic and periodic process that assesses an individual employee’s job performance and productivity in relation to certain pre-established criteria and organizational objectives. Other aspects of individual employees are considered as well, such as behavior, accomplishments, potential for future improvement, strengths and weaknesses, etc A central reason for the utilization of performance appraisals (PAs) is performance improvement (“initially at the level of the individual employee, and ultimately at the level of the organization”). Other fundamental reasons include “as a basis for employment decisions (e.g. promotions, terminations, transfers), as criteria in research (e.g. test validation), to aid with communication (e.g. allowing employees to know how they are doing and organizational expectations), to establish personal objectives for training” programs, for transmission of objective feedback for personal development, “as a means of documentation to aid in keeping track of decisions and legal requirements” and in wage and salary administration. Additionally, PAs can aid in the formulation of job criteria and selection of individuals “who are best suited to perform the required organizational tasks”. A PA can be part of guiding and monitoring employee career development. PAs can also be used to aid in work motivation through the use of reward systems.

Then in communication paths between an MS and various BSs, including a desired path between the MS and the desired BS and many interference paths between the MS and other BSs, then when we assign different weight to each interference pilot type the resulting system interference will be lower than the interference induced in the system in which a common and equal weight is assigned to all pilots. In the second part of this dissertation it involves the estimation of channel impulse response; we first insert various types of pilots at pre-determined locations of the physical Resource Block in IEEE 802.16m to estimate the channel impulse responses at these locations and then use certain linear interpolation techniques to find the channel impulse responses at other locations. In the channel impulse response estimation both the Least Square (LS) and the Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) algorithms are considered. Various pilot structures have been proposed for 2x2 MIMO OFDM systems and the system performances in terms of bit error rate (BER) have been simulated and evaluated from the estimated channel impulse responses when an mobile user moves at speeds of 3 km/hr, 120 km/hr and 350 km/hr. In the last part of this dissertation we consider in the next generation wireless communication system in the implementation of coordination scheme among base stations to improve the system bandwidth utilization efficiency; simultaneously we also consider the situation when it includes Femto cells or Repeaters in the base station coverage areas. We discuss the basic characteristics of Femto cells and Repeaters; explore the possible overall system structures and the possible channel models. With simulation evaluations we find the system capacity, bandwidth utilization when Femto cells are deployed or Repaeters are installed and compare these system performances with those systems without Femto cells or Repeaters included.

碩士<br>淡江大學<br>電機工程學系碩士班<br>95<br>In this thesis, it is mainly by utilizing Matlab software to evaluate the system performance of the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system through two different modulation techniques, one is using the Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) and the other is implemented with the Complementary Coding Keying (CCK). Different channel characteristics such as the channel with only Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN), channel with Rayleigh fading, and the channel with the combination of noise and fading effects are considered. It considers separately one bit, two bits, four bits or eight bits of each OFDM symbol being affected by the Rayleigh fading to elaborate the slow or fast fading characteristics on the system performances.

Abstract:
Telemedicine is one of the hot research topics which provides health-care solutions to remote areas. There are various situations, where telemedicine plays a vital role.Nowadays psychiatrists use cloud computing to come across their patients from remote places, which makes their job easier.Telemedicine takes the help of cloud computing in robotic surgery.Normally it is done, by taking the help from alien surgeons. As the patients maintaining many numbers of queues, the urgent patients have to wait in the same queue. This situation is undesirable. Therefore the collection of real-time monitoring of patients vital data becomes a tedious job.A mathematical scenario is proposed where a single doctor is taken into consideration. In this scenario a microcontroller model is being used which consists of various smart sensors inside it.The heterogeneous smart sensors are kept intact to the patient’s body.A support staff attaches the particular smart sensors to the particular patient’s body and the sensors start recording the patient’s vital data and they send it to the central database system. This model is strictly concerned about the minimization of the traffic intensity and the maximization of the throughput. As the proposed model works on WSN environment possibility of various attacks increases. One of the important attack is taken into consideration,Black hole attack. To make our Model robust, a security model(algorithm) is added to the previously proposed model, which eradicates the complications from the sensors.

碩士<br>健行科技大學<br>經營管理研究所<br>101<br>In Taiwan, lifestyle is gradually changing due to the development of economy and completive market. Pursuing a higher service quality is the major consumer trend for many Taiwanese people. Also, home stay owners pointed out that how to provide quality service has become an important issue in lodging business. The quality service provides by the home stay owners might not fulfill customer’s expectations and results the failure in keeping customers. The study uses the concept of the humanities environment which consists of four dimensions to develop performance indicators of homestay industry. First, the questionnaires are mailed to the managers of homestay industry in order to find the key factors and indicators. Based on the result, it consists of seven key performance factors. Then, the study applies AHP to measure the key factors and indicators’ weights. Finally, a performance appraisal system for homestay industry by indicators is established for reference. The results showed that in the first layer of the factors to homestay Industry, the "infrastructure" and "service quality" are the most attention. Scholars believe that quality infrastructure and services should be the most important things that they need to provide, so we know the services that homestay Industry provided compare to the other accommodation industries is very close, it won’t be different that just because it is a family sideline business.
