Full textBackground: Lateral epicondylalgia is a common injury, with a long period of pain and disability as symptoms. At present there is no consensus on which treatments are the best for epicondylalgia, but taping is considered to reduce pain and facilitate rehabilitation. In recent years, new research has been published on taping in epicondylalgia, but few systematic reviews are available. A compilation of the new literature on taping may lead to a clarification in the guidelines for treatment of epicondylalgia. Objective: Systematically identify, review, and examine evidence regarding the effects of taping on pain in individuals with epicondylalgia. Methods: Systematic review. The search was conducted in the database PubMed. The studies were assessed according to PEDro scale and GRADE from Statens beredning för medicinsk och social utvärdering (SBU). Results: Eight articles were included in the study, with a total of 279 participants. The studies received between five and eight points on the PEDro scale. According to GRADE there were limited evidence for kinesiotape (KT) being able to reduce pain and insufficient evidence for KT having any effect on pain-free grip strength (PFGS) and pressure pain threshold (PPT). Insufficient evidence was also identified for diamond tape and biomechanical tape for pain, PFGS and PPT. Conclusion: The evidence for taping in epicondylalgia were in general low. Further well-conducted studies with similar issues and methods are important to clarify the evidence and the use of the different taping techniques.

Full textThis study examines the descriptions of the role of management accountants in Europe (available only in Swedish). The study is a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed articles, published in twelve leading journals during 1990-2014. The descriptions of the role are examined in relation to theoretical approaches and methods. The result indicates that there are three distinct phases of the descriptions of management accountants, from a role that is released from the previous assumptions of an accountant as a bean-counter towards a phase where the role is affected by new technologies that leads to redefinitions of the role, up to today’s phase where previous role types are questioned with a focus on the power position of the role within the organization and opportunities to create a professional identity. There is a relatively homogeneous pattern in the theoretical approach to the study of the management accountant. The vast majority of articles are based on a sociological perspective, which indicates that the management accountant has been described based on the context the management accountant operates in, given important indications for understanding this particular context. The study indicates that it is primarily the organizational factors that are driving the changes and the function of the role. Each organization defines the function of a management accountant based on to what extent this function is linked to business. The knowledge base of a management accountant, according to the descriptions, illustrates that the management accountant requires managing more areas than accounting. This has been reported before, but has been explained as a role change and a variety of role types. The results of this study indicate that it is rather a natural process of change in relation to the further survival of a business.

Full textAbstract Aim The purpose of this study was to compile the quality and results of studies that examined if long-distance running gives osteoarthritis of the hip, knee or ankle joints. Is there scientific evidence that long-distance running gives osteoarthritis of the hip, knee or ankle? What strengths and weaknesses of the studies attempted to determine if the link between long-distance running and osteoarthritis of the hip, knee or ankle joints. Method Search of the literature was performed in PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, and PEDro. This resulted in ten articles that were included for further review and compilation. Based on the articles combined probative value was scored and graded articles for level of evidence according to the National Council on Technology Evaluation (SBU) examination templates for cohort studies with control groups. Results Only one of the ten studies showed a positive association between long distance running and osteoarthritis of the hip, knee or ankle joints, in this case hip joint. The studies have not a clear and common definition of what long-distance running is. The studies reviewed use different metrics to assess joint degeneration, both by self-report and of different diagnostic criteria for osteoarthritis. All studies have an element of selection bias. Conclusion An indication that there is no scientific evidence that long-distance running gives hip, knee or ankle osteoarthritis in humans. The studies were inadequate handling of confounders and selection bias and judged to be of low or medium quality.
