Abstract:

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Pepper is one of the main vegetable crops commercialized in Brazil and it is grown throughout the country. The objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters and predict the genotypic values involved in agronomic traits of hybrid pepper in two different cropping systems in order to verify adaptability and genotypic stability. The experiment was carried out at the Experimental Station Luiz Jorge da Gama Wanderley from IPA, located in Vitoria de Santo Antão, Pernambuco State, Brazil, from October 2010 to March 2011. Seven hybrids were evaluated in two trials, the first in conventional farming system and the second in organic cultivation system. Randomized blocks were used with seven treatments, four replications and plots consisting of six plants. We evaluated the following fruit variables: total mass (MTF), total number (NTF), average length (CMF), average diameter (DMF), number of locules (NL) and average thickness of the pericarp (EP). Statistical analyzes and estimation of genetic parameters were based on mixed models of type REML/BLUP, using the statistical model and software SELEGEN 151. All traits showed good accuracy. The genotype average heritability (h2mg) was lower than 80% only for the trait NTF. Some characters had h2mg close to 100% such as CMF and DMF with 99.1% and 98.3%, respectively. The hybrids presenting a predicted genotypic effect higher than the average were: Atlantis, Máximos, Solario and Rubia R for NTF, Solario and Atlantis for MFT, Impacto, Máximos, Atlantis, Hebron and Rubia R to CMF, Solario and Enterprise for DMF, Solario, Impacto, Rubia R and Atlantis for NL and Solario and Enterprise for EP. Hybrids presenting the highest performance in the traits evaluated for each system were the same selected based on the joint analysis of the studied systems, showing stability and enabling their indication for organic and conventional cropping systems.

Abstract:
AbstractExtrasolar planets in binary and multiple star systems have become a noticeable niche with about 50 planets among over 500 known. Here we however focus on a particular subset of exoplanets in binary star systems — circumbinary planets. They have the unique advantage that a search for circumbinary planets does also significantly contribute to the understanding of their parent stars. We review what is currently known about circumbinary planets and then introduce our two projects aimed at detecting circumbinary planets: The TATOOINE project to find circumbinary planets around non-eclipsing double-lined spectroscopic binary stars with precision radial velocities, and the SOLARIS project to detect circumbinary planets with the timing of eclipses of eclipsing binary stars. For the SOLARIS project, we were granted 2.6 million USD to establish a network of at least four robotic 0.5-m telescopes on three continents (Australia, Africa and South America) to carry out precision photometry of a sample of eclipsing binary stars. We expect that both projects will have a large impact also on the observational stellar astronomy.

Abstract:
The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of a new method, developed for predicting density and floristic composition of weed communities in field crops. Based on the use of solaria (100 mm transparent plastic tarps lying on the soil) to stimulate weed seedlings emergence, the method was tested in Tandil, Argentina, from 1998 to 2001. The system involved corn and sunflower in commercial no-till system. Major weeds in the experiments included Digitaria sanguinalis, Setaria verticillata and S. viridis, which accounted for 98% of the weed community in the three years of experiments since 1998. Large numbers of Tagetes minuta, Chenopodium album and Ammi majus were present in 2001. Comparison of weed communities under solaria with communities in field crops indicated that the method is useful for predicting the presence and density of some major weed species, at both high and low densities, of individuals in areas of 10 ha using only five solaria. Low density of weed species makes the method particularly useful to help deciding the time for herbicide applications to avoid soil contamination.

Abstract:
Zaobserwowano też zmiany we współczynniku Poissona.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this work, we suggest a quantum-like simulator concept to study social processes related to the solution of NP-hard problems. The simulator is based on the solaser model recently proposed by us in the framework of information cascade growth and echo chamber formation in social network communities. The simulator is connected with the random laser approach that we examine in the A and D-class (superradiant) laser limits. Novel network-enforced cooperativity parameters of decision-making agents, which may be measured as a result of the solaser simulation, are introduced and justified for social systems. The innovation diffusion in complex networks is discussed as one of the possible impacts of our proposal.

Abstract:
In arid and semi-arid regions the lack of drinkable water often corresponds with a high solar insolation. These conditions are favourable for the use of solar energy as the driving force for water treatment systems. Especially in remote rural areas with low infrastructure and without connection to a grid, smallscale, stand-alone operating systems for the desalination of brackish water from wells or salt water from the sea are desirable to provide settlements with clean potable water. Fraunhofer Institut für Solare Energiesysteme is currently developing a solar thermally driven stand alone desalination system. The aim is to develop systems for a capacity range of 0.2 to 10 m3/day. Technical simplicity, long maintenance-free operation periods and high quality potable water output are very important aims for successful applications of the systems. The separation technique that the system is based on is membrane distillation. The implemented heat source is a corrosion-free, sea water resistant thermal collector.

Abstract:
As the worldwide demand for solar renewable energy continues to rise, researchers have consistently aimed to create cost-effective, high-efficiency solar cells. They are aware that elevated panel temperatures can result in reduced conversion efficiency and diminished long-term dependability, presenting a familiar challenge within the photovoltaics industry. This project is divided into two main studies related to Photovoltaic (PV) panels overheating and cooling systems. The first study focused on investigating the effect of high ambient temperature on the efficiency of solar system, theoretically using MATLAB, AutoCAD and Helioscope, and computationally using PVsyst Software. Results showed that up to 11% of energy output is being lost due to temperature, and error of 2% was detected between theoretical and computational simulations. The findings indicate that computational modeling can be a trustworthy means of forecasting the performance of solar cells and solar systems. Following the identification of the problem, an already modeled and designed radiative cooling system using a combination of nano and micro structuring glass was simulated using PVsyst and theoretical equations to illustrate the output energy of the residential solar system, where results showed that adding one more panel can result in energy output higher by 2% than using the proposed cooling system.

Abstract:
Increasing the efficiency of solar heat supply systems is one of the important problems of solar energy. The research presented in this article is aimed at improving the efficiency of hybrid solar collectors without a transparent coating for building heating systems. One of the key challenges in the field of solar energy is the development of new technologies to ensure high collection of solar energy and to integrate it into traditional heating and hot water systems. The study shows that hybrid solar collectors with the placement of heat carrier circulation circuit tubes above the heat absorber can increase the thermal efficiency factor with a certain change in the angle of inclination and the density of solar radiation. A nomogram was also developed that determines the dependence of this coefficient on the angles of arrival of solar radiation and its density.

Abstract:
Solar energy is one of the richest source of renewable energy on Earth, thus its harnessing is very much necessary for the useful conversion of light energy into electric energy. Solar panels are developed in this direction. Many scientists have developed various methods to gather the solar irradiation in order to maximize the extraction of electric power from the Photovoltaic generators. However, the problem with the solar power is that it is directly dependent on light intensity. The main hindrance with solar panels is their low efficiency with huge investment. Studies show that a solar panel converts 20-40% of energy incident on it to electrical energy. The solution is to use a tracking system1, 7 that maintains the panel’s position orthogonal with the light source. There are many tracking systems designs available including passive and active systems with one or two axes of freedom.8, 9 It has been found that the overall efficiency gain in single-axis solar tracker designed in10 is 27% than that of fixed mechanism. We had optimised the tracker efficiency by performing the experiment with solar tracker for consecutive three days and thus results were analysed by using stat-ease software. Moreover, the testing showed that the power used by the tracking system was much less than that of power gained by tracking system. While working on the developed set-up, focus was given on the incremental efficiency of the solar power generation system. In the present work, further performance analysis is taken up with the help of various parameters viz. Specific Energy Production (SEP), Performance Ratio (PR), Ground Cover Ratio (GCR) and Surface Performance Ratio (SPR)11 to further elaborate the efficiency enhancement in solar trackers as compared to fixed systems.

Abstract:
Renewable energy sources will represent the only alternative to limit fossil fuel usage and pollution. For this reason, photovoltaic (PV) power plants represent one of the main systems adopted to produce clean energy. Monitoring the state of health of a system is fundamental. However, these techniques are time demanding, cause stops to the energy generation, and often require laboratory instrumentation, thus being not cost-effective for frequent inspections. Moreover, PV plants are often located in inaccessible places, making any intervention dangerous. In this paper, we propose solAIr, an artificial intelligence system based on deep learning for anomaly cells detection in photovoltaic images obtained from unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with a thermal infrared sensor. The proposed anomaly cells detection system is based on the mask region-based convolutional neural network (Mask R-CNN) architecture, adopted because it simultaneously performs object detection and instance segmentation, making it useful for the automated inspection task. The proposed system is trained and evaluated on the photovoltaic thermal images dataset, a publicly available dataset collected for this work. Furthermore, the performances of three state-of-art deep neural networks, (DNNs) including UNet, FPNet and LinkNet, are compared and evaluated. Results show the effectiveness and the suitability of the proposed approach in terms of intersection over union (IoU) and the Dice coefficient.
