Abstract We propose a manual evaluation method for machine translation (MT), in which annotators rank only translations of short segments instead of whole sentences. This results in an easier and more efficient annotation. We have conducted an annotation experiment and evaluated a set of MT systems using this method. The obtained results are very close to the official WMT14 evaluation results. We also use the collected database of annotations to automatically evaluate new, unseen systems and to tune parameters of a statistical machine translation system. Abstract The paper presents the results of a method based on RIDA®COUNT test systems for evaluating the microbial contamination in animal products. These test systems are used to demonstrate the possibility of evaluating bacterial contamination (total microbial contamination, the presence of fungi and yeast, E. Coli, S. Aureus, Salmonella bacteria) in artificially contaminated meat and fish products. The methods were developed and updated for evaluating microbial contamination and fungi based on the RIDA®COUNT test systems.

Abstract Metrics are the foundation for automatic evaluation in grammatical error correction (GEC), with their evaluation of the metrics (meta-evaluation) relying on their correlation with human judgments. However, conventional meta-evaluations in English GEC encounter several challenges, including biases caused by inconsistencies in evaluation granularity and an outdated setup using classical systems. These problems can lead to misinterpretation of metrics and potentially hinder the applicability of GEC techniques. To address these issues, this paper proposes SEEDA, a new dataset for GEC meta

Although health care in these countries is financed at a similar level, the Estonian health system exceeds its Lithuanian (and Latvian) counterparts in many important aspects. It is argued that an essential impact on the differences in health care of the Baltic countries has been exerted by decisions regarding the fi

The evaluation of top-k conjunctive queries, a staple in business analysis, often requires evaluating the conjunctive query prior to filtering the top-k results, leading to a significant computational overhead within Database Management Systems (DBMSs). While efficient algorithms have been proposed, their integration into DBMSs remains arduous. We introduce relational algorithms, a paradigm where each algorithmic step is expressed by a relational operator. This allows the algorithm to be represented as a set of SQL queries, enabling easy deployment across different systems that support SQL. We
