Abstract:
Obesity and Diabetes are intertwined in a growing epidemic called Metabolic Syndrome; a reflection of poor health and metabolic outcomes. Pre-diabetes specifically involves a period of initial insulin resistance, causing hypersecretion of the insulin hormone, which, chronically, can cause peripheral damage that ultimately leads to hypertension. Previous studies in adults have examined multiple mechanisms that mediate this potentially causal relationship between chronically elevated plasma insulin levels and elevated blood pressure. Myocardial wall stress (MWS) is a crucial factor linked to myocardial hypertrophy, which can lead to heart failure, particularly heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Shortening-deactivation of cardiac myocytes could provide a mechanism linking systolic to diastolic dysfunction whereby an impairment of early systolic ejection leads to sustained myocardial contraction, preserving overall ejection fraction at the expense of diastolic dysfunction. We formulated a novel index of first phase ejection fraction (EF1), the fraction of left ventricular volume ejected from the start of

Ischemic heart disease represents a leading cause of death worldwide. Ischemia denotes an insufficient supply of oxygenated blood to the heart due to occlusion of the coronary vessels. Timely reperfusion, i.e., restoring blood flow to the ischemic part of the heart, limits ischemic damage. However, reperfusion itself induces injury to the heart. This phenomenon is referred as ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Osteopontin (OPN), also known as cytokine Eta-1, is a cell-secreted extracellular matrix protein. Abstract:
Abstract Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), a common complication of elevated blood pressure (BP), is a risk factor for cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality. Adiponectin has been shown to have cardioprotective effects and is inversely associated with LVH. BP can be measured at a clinical visit, as a momentary value. Ambulatory blood pressure (APB) measurement (ABPM) is a method of repeated BP measurements through a defined period, targeted to evaluate the circadian BP profile. High BP and ABPM have been shown to be associated with LVH and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD).

Abstract:

Title: What explains variability in blood pressure readings? Multilevel analysis of data from 8,731 older adults in 20 Ontario Communities Objectives: Despite universal healthcare and drug coverage for adults aged 65 and over in Ontario, hypertension, a treatable condition, remains uncontrolled among many older adults. Moreover, there are geographic disparities in blood pressure and hypertension within and across Canadian provinces and territories. Using baseline data collected on 8,731 older adults participating in the Cardiovascular Health Awareness Program (CHAP) in 20 randomly selected
