Abstract:
Understanding statistical tables is a main component of statistical literacy, although related research dealing with secondary school students is scarce. The purpose of this study was to investigate secondary school students’ performance when translating graphs to tables and then interpreting the resulting table. Using content analysis of the responses to a questionnaire given to a sample of Spanish students, we analysed the correctness of the constructed table, the semiotic conflicts that appeared in their construction, the interpretation of the table elements, the ability to argue on the bas

Tables of alphanumeric data concerning crystals twinned by merohedry are presented, assembled into a spreadsheet. The twin table is structured on the 230 space groups and contains the following information: centrosymmetric/chiral indicator, polar axes, twin index, twin operators, some physical property relations, symmetry-related reflections, inversion techniques and a pointer to software use. The software table contains the preceding information translated into command lines forSHELXL[Sheldrick (2008).Acta Cryst.A64, 112–122]. Tabular data plays an essential role in many data analytics and machine learning tasks. Typically, tabular data does not possess any machine-readable semantics. In this context, semantic table interpretation is crucial for making data analytics workflows more robust and explainable. This article proposes Tab2KG – a novel method that targets at the interpretation of tables with previously unseen data and automatically infers their semantics to transform them into semantic data graphs. The article discusses various points of view on the concept of "tuple of a multi-place relation" used in mathematics and information technology. Special attention is paid to an evolution of the concept “tuple” within Constraint Programming technology where the emergence of new interpretations for the concept “tuple” is related with attempts to design more “compact” table representation of qualitative relations comparing with typical relational tables. This “compact” representation can serve as a basis for accelerating qualitative constraint satisfaction procedures. In studied prototype-works,

Web-tables are ubiquitous in Web pages. Since tables themselves are organized structurally and semantically, they are good resources from which we can easily extract ontology. But, most Web-tables are designed for intuitive perception of humans, thus, it has a certain limit to interpret table content using only structural information of the table. So this paper focuses on the method for interpretation of table content based on semantic characteristics of the table. This thesis traces Margaret Atwood's uses of three major elements of fairy tales in her novels. Atwood creates a passive, fairy-tale-like heroine, but not for the purpose of showing how passivity wins the prince as in the traditional tale. Atwood also uses the binary system, which provides a moralistic structure in the fairy tale, to show the necessity of moving beyond its rigidity. In addition, Atwood's novels focus on transformation as the breaking of a spell. However, the spell to be broken arises out of the fairy tales themselves, which create unrealistic expectations.
