Full textThe purpose of my study is to investigate how educators value and use the signs as alternative and complementary communication tools (TAKK) with particular reference to the ability of multilingual children to participate in activities. The method I have chosen for this study is interviews with a qualitative approach. I have interviewed four educators, one of whom is a nanny and the other three are preschool teachers. The result showed that informants had a positive attitude about TAKK and they felt that using the tool, multilingual children could feel understood and understand educators. They also mentioned that it is easy to forget if it is not used continuously in the work team.

Full textStudiens syfte är att undersöka hur förskolor med olika pedagogiska inriktningar arbetar med Tecken som Alternativ och Kompletterande Kommunikation förkortat TAKK. Studien bygger på pedagogernas skilda erfarenheter och syn på TAKK. Metoden som tillämpats för studien är semistrukturerade intervjuer på fyra olika förskolor som arbetar med TAKK. Intervju med specialpedagog genomfördes för att ta del av sambandet mellan förskolorna och elevhälsoteamet i det språkutvecklande arbetet. Resultatet visar att pedagogerna har olika erfarenheter av att arbeta med TAKK i relation till andra metoder och material. Utifrån intervjuerna framkommer det att pedagogerna är positiva till TAKK som en språkutvecklande metod. De arbetar med att tillämpa TAKK till hela barngrupperna för att inte utesluta någon.

Full textThe aim of this study is to describe teacher and class-assistents experiences of Keyword Signing (KWS) as communicative support for pupils in compulsory school for learning disabilities. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with three teachers and two class-assistents, who in their profession used KWS in interaction with the pupils. The theoretical framework is founded on inspiration and theoretical concepts from both the sociocultural perspective as well from the communicative relationshiporiented perspective. The total result from this study shows that teachers and class-assistents described KWS as a communicative mediated resource that favored the pupil’s communication and interaction with the surroundings, as from the participant´s point of view is elementary for communicative and social participation, and learning. Over all the interviewed considered that KWS as an artefact was contributing advantages and possibilities concerning the pupils communication, participation and learning. KWS was practiced on daily basis during the schooldays, mostly in formal contexts in relation to teachers and class-assistents. Spontaneous KWS was rarely used by the pupils. Teachers and class-assistents had confidence in their own ability to support the communicative needs of the pupils. KWS was practiced in the classrooms among other alternative of AAC-tools, which were developing in the classrooms. My hope is that this study will contribute cumulative knowledge and awareness about KWS in compulsory school for learning disabilities.
