Abstract:
The present study focuses on the challenges of the intralingual translation from the peripheral dialect into official, standard Slovak that has been performed on unique Šariš region dialect fairy tales preserved in the village Fintice. They have been published recently in a bilingual form with their Slovak translation Zazračni dzvonček — Zázračný zvonček (FACE 2018). The first part of the paper points out the peripheral aspects of the analysed text and stresses the importance of presenting such forgotten literary pieces for the community identity as well as for preserving community cultural heritage. The second part of the paper focuses on translation analysis and differences between the two texts on morpho-syntactic and lexical level, and in the degree of expressiveness.

Abstract:
Abstract Shortly before his death Hungarian writer and essayist Péter Esterházy (1950 – 2016) wrote the dramatic text of Mercedes Benz – Historical Revue in two parts for the Slovak National Theatre. In particular, it focuses on the famous noble family Esterházy’s influence in Slovakia. The author of the play had a very strong association with this matter. In his writing Péter Esterházy used a wide range of intertextualities: his literary texts are like the fabric spun from fibres of the autobiography of his own family history, but also fragments of Hungarian and Slovak history, legends, tales, as well as hearsay and myths. The interpreted dramatic text is remarkable because Esterházy, in addition to intertextual recycling of his own texts, also exploits the texts of the Hungarian classic author Imre Madách The Tragedy of Man. The author of the study has focused on clarifying the function, specification and effects of Esterházy’s intertextual writing.

Abstract:
Less-known sources on the life and work of Božena Němcová include her notebooks. She probably had a large number of them, but only four have been preserved, of which one has been published in its entirety. The remaining ones have been issued in fragments. Němcová used three notebooks during her travels to Slovakia. She recorded the course of the trip and experiences from her stay in two, in the larger of which, entitled Zápisky z cest do Uher [Notes from Trips to Hungary], she also wrote ethnographic notes, especially fairy tales and children’s games, and excerpts from contemporary literature on Slovakia. The third notebook was probably conceived in advance as a Slovak-Czech manuscript dictionary. The last, so-called Malý zápisník [Small Notebook], provides a mosaic-like picture of the author’s life and her interests in 1855–1859. The article is complemented by a treatise on previously unknown notebooks with copies of poems (K. J. Erben, K. H. Borovský and others), which Němcová dedicated to her son Karel.

Abstract:
Abstract Vincent Šikula entered (also) children’s literature in the 1960s, i.e. during the years when crucial works of Slovak children’s literature were published. His works are interesting for children even nowadays because they are built on story-telling, interesting language, and, very often, quick action. Šikula’s poetics is based on not underestimating children. He did not determine in advance for whom his books are intended, since, in his opinion, they were appropriated by those whom they suited most. The paper discusses Šikula’s stories and fairy-tales with regard to the authorial narrative strategies.

Abstract:
Abstract The article presents the Codices of Revúca as one of the most important sources of research on Slovak fairy tales through the interpretation of the Berona fairy tale. This topic as a whole but also in the context of the fairy tale theory is still unexplored, just like most similar manuscripts of Slovak romanticists who were at the birth of the folklore studies in their pre-scientific period. It is purposly conceived as a material study with the aim of demonstrating the need to return to archive sources and the research potential offered by such materials. It is, however, not the specific objective of this article to present an analysis of the texts quoted in the annex. The article consists of two parts. The first one evaluates the existing material base of the research on the Codices of Revúca (J. Polívka, M. Dzubáková), highlights the limitations arising from the marginalisation of the available materials, offers precise records from the Codices of Revúca on the texts for the interpretation of the fairy tale and, finally, corrects the information on one of the key texts from this source, the letter written by S. Reuss on December 17, 1843, the full translation of which forms part of the text in the annex. The second (analytical) part of the article deals with the contextualisation and comparison of three commentaries on the Berona fairy tale (S. Reuss, J. Francisci, S. Ormis). All three texts are fully available in the annex.

Abstract This article examines the rise of the nascent intellectual and business bourgeois elites of the Czechs and Slovaks, focusing on the transformation of their cultural program into a political one. The article takes a comparative approach and investigates the relationship of political programs to prepolitical identities, zooming in on the parameters of a broader Czech and Slovak state identity, including the role of the center (Vienna, Pest, Prague, or Pressburg) or language (analyzing both its unifying and divisive roles in bridging the ideas and visions of the emerging local elites). As I argue, in the case of the Czech and Slovak nationalist movements, we can observe a transition from a prepolitical to the political program in the mid-19th century itself.

Abstract:
The practice of active and qualified tourism in national parks in Poland and Slovakia has longstanding traditions. Primarily, these parks have been a place of individual recreational activity, as well as a place to educate and convene with nature. Recently, sport tourism, which is characterized by the participation of tourists in mass organized sporting events mainly of a competitive nature, has been gaining more popularity. Even though this activity takes place in protected areas, sports are the main priority, rather than educational goals. Natural values have the primary function of enriching emotional experiences, and exploring wildlife is not an end in itself. Running events are now at the head of the list as the most popular sporting events in Poland and in Slovakia. The authors of the article focused on protected areas in Poland and Slovakia, largely because these countries were considering organizing one of the world’s biggest sports events together: The Winter Olympic Games (2022). The purpose of the study was to recognize the attitude of Polish and Slovak national park authorities toward the organization of mass sports events in protected areas. A diagnostic survey was conducted using the method of interviews with the directors of Polish and Slovak national parks. The research results shed light on the current state of development of sports event tourism in protected areas in the two countries. The article examines the response of Polish and Slovak park authorities to the changes of the current era of shifting societal needs regarding physical development, in particular with regard to the sustainability of protected areas. Currently, there is a lack of a strategic approach toward the development of sports tourism in national parks in Poland and Slovakia. The answers given in the interviews create an image that indicates a differentiated approach to the issue of permitting the organization of sports events in the areas of national parks. It turns out that the practice in these areas is different in individual parks. The diagnosis presented in the article indicates that it is necessary to undertake interdisciplinary and international research among environmentalists, economists, sociologists, anthropologists, and physical culture specialists in order to develop methods for measuring the impact of sporting events organized in natural areas in this part of Europe.

Abstract:
Currently, indirect taxes in the EU are highly harmonized, however, harmonization of direct taxes is still a very complex problem. Many EU member states refuse to give up their tax sovereignty, which would become considerably limited because of the har¬monization of direct taxes. Today, attention is paid to the harmonization of the tax base of corporate income tax, while a number of ways are under consideration. The European Council has issued a draft of Directive for a common consolidated tax base of corporate income tax in 2011 and updated in 2012. This draft must be approved by all member states, but some of them, however, have expressed on the draft in negative way. Because of the severity of this problems, the authors decided to focus on this topic within this article, which deals with the calculation of the tax base by the laws of the Slovak Republic and by Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base (CCCTB); and evaluate whether the tax harmonization of direct taxes would be advantageous for the particular business.

Abstract The aim of this paper is to quantify tourists (both domestic and international) of Slovakia and their chronology throughout the years. Firstly, a brief development of them is introduced (absolute number and proportion of the total traffic from 1985 to 2013). Subsequently, the structure of their nationality, spatial differentiation (at municipal level) and seasonality is discussed (respective distribution during the year). The aim of this study is to discover a spatial context in space and time. To quantify the number of tourists, the data from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic and also from the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development, are used. These data are interpreted in analyses and confirmed by tables, graphs and pictures.

Abstract:
The agricultural sector in the Czech and Slovak Republic has problems in big and also in small farms. The pa- per is based on the assumption of the family farm algorithm, which is focused on the plant production. A family farm is represented by two adults and two children. The aim is to calculate the minimum size of the farm in hectare needed to achieve the average income (in the national economy) of the 4-member family in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia. The algorithms for determining the size of a family farm focused on crop farming in the corn production area in the economic and production conditions of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic were given the following inputs: the average annual income of a 4 member family, own costs for chosen crops, prices crops, average subsidies for agricultural land, average annual harvests of chosen crops. Data were obtained from the ministries of agriculture and statistical offices from both states. We calculate the average 4 member family in Slovakia needs to earn minimum 16 77.44 Euro per year and in the Czech Republic 18 322.08 Euro per year. The results of the paper proved that, according to the model of an average farm focused on crop production, the acreage of 89.99 ha in Slovakia and 122.31 ha in the Czech Republic of agricultural land needs to have one family farm. We are calculating with following commodities: wheat, barley, grain maize, sunflower, oil rape, potatoes and pea. One way to track changes in farm structure is to examine trends in the average size of holding, or average herd size in the case of livestock farms. However, this measure can seriously underestimate the pace of change where much of the growth (in area farmed, or in livestock numbers) takes place on the larger holdings. The persistence of many small holdings, even though the share of the land or livestock that they control is small and may be falling, tends to mask the extent of structural change as measured by averages. The aim of submitted paper is to determine the minimum size of agricultural land of a small family farm focused on plant production in the economic and production conditions of the Czech and Slovak Republics. In the submitted paper the data on farmers has been used in Slovakia and the Czech Republic from the data of business calculations by Research Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics from Slovakia and Research Institute of Agricultural Economy from Czech Republic. Key words: farm size, agricultural land, crop production, crops, costs, prices, subsidies.

The results of research on the production of raw timber assortments for the stands of poplar clones Robusta and I-214 in Slovakia are presented in this paper. Models of assortment yield tables were constructed, separately for each clone, in dependence on the yield class and stand age. The construction was based on the models of yield tables, stand assortment tables, models of external quality and damage to stems. Robusta clone produces by about 15–20% higher proportions of the highest quality assortments than I-214 clone. I-214 clone produces faster and higher proportions of average- and below-average quality assortments.

Abstract:
In economic terms Slovakia has been one of the most successful transition countries, but its advance towards the rule of law has been uneven and beset with numerous difficulties. While in the 1990s the judiciary increased its reputation considerably by standing up in the defense of democracy, it lost face only shortly later because of its apparent inability to prevent court corruption from spreading. Only quite recently government managed to take effective measures against it. Nevertheless debt collection has become much less of a problem than it used to be in the 1990s and liquidity constraints have been greatly relieved. This change seems only to a minor part due to increasing judicial efficiency which has made slow progress only. Thus, Slovak experience has reconfirmed the conjecture that erecting the rule of law takes much more time than transforming the economic system.

Abstract:
Abstract From the time of Altman and the first bankruptcy prediction models, the prediction of default of companies is in the centre of interest of many economists and scientists all over the world. For companies, early detection of the possible threat of imminent financial difficulties or even bankruptcy is a very important part of financial analysis. Over the last few years, many predictive models have been created in the world. However, it has been shown that these models are not very well transferable to the conditions of the economy of another country and their prediction or rating power in another country is lower. Therefore, it is best to create a specific predictive model in the country that takes into account the situation of companies on the basis of real data on their financial situation. This paper is focused on creating a model of failure prediction of small companies in Slovakia using a well-known and widely used method of multivariate discriminant analysis. Discriminant analysis is one of the oldest multivariate statistical methods and sometimes it is difficult to fulfil certain assumptions for data. However, its results are easily interpretable and can be used to classify a company to the group of companies with risk of financial difficulties or, on the contrary, between well-prosperous companies. Prediction model is created based on real data on Slovak enterprises and has a strong classification ability in the specific conditions of the Slovak Republic.

Abstract:
As a starting point, the study underlines that one cannot speak about a homogenous Slovak nation and politics in the middle of the 19th century; therefore, it gives an overview of the plebeian-middle-class movement, of its system of values, programme, and documents in 1848—1849, 1861, and in the period of the Compromise negotiations. Afterwards, it presents the nobility of Upper Hungary, with a Slovak mother tongue and ethnic feeling, who, according to its identity in the framework of the states, has belonged to the feudal Natio Hungarica. As the narrower focus of the study, the author takes the Slovak perspective and summarizes the ethnic dimensions of the activity of parliaments in 1861 and from 1865 on. The Slovak national movement could not send its own deputy, the interests of the Slavs of northern Hungary thus being represented by Adolf Dobriansky, born as a Ruthenian; however, the Nationalities Law, Art. 1868: XLIV. could be codified rather due to the mentioned Slovak-speaking nobility, standing behind the party of Ferenc Deák. Finally, we are provided a picture of the rival programmes of different newspapers that divided the Slovak public opinion, and in connection with the law we can read about their first reactions and experiences.

Abstract:
Uranium is one of the strategic minerals used mainly in energetics. The main purpose of uranium mining is to achieve maximum production to meet the rapidly growing demand for energies. It needs to become aware that technological progress in mining processes could significantly reduce the negative impacts associated with environmental, economic, and social risks. Uranium mining is one of the most controversial topics. It is dealt with by many experts and scientists around the world. Various methods and technologies of uranium mining are encountered in professional journals, as well as political or socio-economic decisions based on the impact and importance of the energy potential of uranium deposits, or the environmental impacts of uranium mining. The deposit of Kuriskova is one of the most perspective deposits not only in Slovakia but also in the world. The deposit is located near the town of Kosice (with near 240,000 inhabitants) and near the recreational area of Jahodna in the east of the Slovak Republic. The analysis and determination of the energy potential of the deposit of Kuriskova shows that uranium reserves from this deposit would be able to fully cover the needs for nuclear power plants for the production of nuclear fuel, in the Slovak Republic, even in the longer term. With the above-mentioned energy potential of the deposit of Kuriskova at the level of 600 TWh, nuclear power plants in the Slovak Republic are able to be supplied with raw materials from the deposit of Kuriskova for about 40 years with the current amount of electricity produced (approx. 15 TWh). Therefore, for the purposes of this research, a proposal for the extraction of uranium reserves at the deposit of Kuriskova was made. Based on it, it is possible to determine the amount of recoverable uranium reserves from the deposit. A methodology has been determined with mining this proposal, which takes into account the basic criteria of uranium deposit mining, which was used for the selection of a suitable mining technology for the uranium deposit of Kuriskova.

Adaptation to an unfamiliar currency is required regularly of international travellers – and also of citizens of countries changing their currency, such as the 19 (to date) Eurozone members. We report on the currency adaptation process in the Slovak Republic during 2008-2011. We analyse its effects on citizens’ development of price intuition in the euro. Our study draws on Hofmann et al.’s (2007) work, which proposed four different strategies for coping, ranging from direct numerical conversion to developing intuition. We conducted repeated cross-sectional surveys using structured questionnaires in realistic Slovak settings. We describe European and Slovak institutions’ supports for the public, such as dual display of prices, and readily available conversion tables. We found that, whereas the numerical conversion strategy was used most frequently by respondents in the first year, within two years they were already developing intuition in the new currency, especially for frequently bought products. We also investigated the ‘Euro Illusion’, the extent to which Slovak citizens, in their evaluation of prices, may have been influenced to make decisions based on nominal values, whereby prices in euros seemed smaller than those in Slovak crowns. We summarise suggestions for promoting learning in situations of currency change, and briefly discuss the features of the Slovak process as a ‘numerate environment’. KeywordsPrice intuition; numeracy; learning; intuition strategy; marker value strategy; anchor strategy; numerical conversion strategy.

Abstract:
Implementation of renewable energy sources into the electric network is one of the current essential requirements. The process is assumed to be assisted by smart grid solution. The Slovak Republic is obliged to increase the total share of renewable energy to 14 and 24 % (international system of units and ISO 31–0) in electricity generation in 2020 as a result of the European Union policy. This fact has an undeniable impact on the electric network and the situation needs to be solved comprehensively. Moreover, production from renewable energy sources (photovoltaic, wind energy and others) is often unpredictable in nature and therefore concentrated effort on effective management system and planning is inevitable. Monitoring of the real production from renewable energy sources and comparison with simulations and predictions are part of a systematic approach to intelligent networks and their components. The smart grid concept presented here takes into account the technical aspect. Moreover, the issue of the economic and political framework is discussed in this paper. The major progress in implementing the smart grid concept in Slovakia is made in the field of smart metering.

The empirical study conducted in this work is based on the data from the WIOD symmetric input-output tables. The main trends of the structural transformation of Slovak productive system in analysed period was that services (mostly business services) increased their share (in term of value added) within the whole economy and the overall degree of tertiarisation rose. Domestic services not only increased their capacity to encourage their own production but intensified their relations with the rest of the economic activities.

Abstract:
Abstract The main objective of the paper is to describe the recommended values model of corporate culture and supporting business performance for industrial companies operating in the Slovak Republic. This model was developed on the basis of research results within the STU Project to support young researchers entitled “Changing the potential of the company´s success using the principles of spiral management and its impact on corporate culture”. The current paper is a part of submitted VEGA project No.1/0348/17 “The impact of the coexistence of different generations of employees on the sustainable performance of organisations”. This model will be the basis for defining corporate values and developing or changing corporate culture for the companies operating on or coming (from abroad) to the Slovak market. The characteristic features of the value model are simplicity, complexity and applicability. This model takes into account the current situation on the Slovak market. The values of this model have a different level of significance given and each value is defined by the specified principles.

Abstract:
This article presents an overview of the self-reported health status of the population of the European Union Member States (EU-28) in the year 2018 based on Eurostat data. The self-reported health status of the inhabitants of the Slovak Republic has been analyzed in more detail with regard to the availability of individual data of the survey results from the European Statistics of Income and Living Condition (EU-SILC). The aim of the article is to analyse the relationship between social and demographic characteristics and the self-perceived health of the population in the EU-28 countries and their comparison as well as a comparison with the results found in the Slovak Republic. The characteristics gender, age, educational level, income, employment, and place of residence have been considered as the determinants of the self-reported health status. The obtained results of self-reported health status by selected demographics and social indicators in the European Union Member States have been compared in visual form using tables and graphs. For assessment of impact selected socio-economic and demographic characteristics on the self-perceived health by inhabitants in the Slovak Republic has been used the logistic regression model based on data extracted from the EU SILC 2016 cross-sectional component provided by the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic. The obtained results can provide valuable information for health protection policy in EU countries and especially in the Slovak Republic. It could also be used to compare self-reported health status in the EU countries and the health status established based on the official health data published by European institutions.

Abstract:
Organization of Muscular Dystrophy in the Slovak Republic (OMD in SR) is the only specific organization in Slovakia which associates children and adults with muscular dystrophy and other types of neuromuscular diseases (hereafter only NMD) and their families. The organization was founded as an independent public association in 1993. It has been providing social counselling and other specialized social services for its members and clients. In its early years, it performed the community service and nonprofit activities on a voluntary basis; today, a professional team of nine takes part in its activities, seven of which are people with extensive disability, plus two assistants. This change could take place thanks to having obtained the status of a protected workplace in 2009. In accordance with EURORDIS recommendations, OMD in SR takes care of activities in 3 different areas: information services and help line, therapeutic recreational programmes, and respite care services. As a part of the information service, it provides specialized social counselling for disabled people via phone, email, in person or in the field − at a patient’s place. The organization also publishes its own quality magazine Ozvena (ECHO), which is distributed free-of-charge to all members four times a year. People with NMD are involved in the creation of the magazine from the position of experts and patients. The organization is particularly devoted to Recreational activities the camps for children with NMD, especially boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Activities organized every year include also integrative national meetings of members. The group of relief services includes providing specialized social services in the Personal Assistance Services Agency founded under OMD in SR. It provides wide-range service for 180 personal assistance users in Bratislava region; however, counselling covers the whole Slovakia. For a long time, the organization has been making effort to change regulations in the legislation which concern several aspects essential for people with NMD. Slovakia is not doing enough to provide financial support for functioning of patient organizations − the subsidy system does not take them into account and donation support is non-existent. A tool for change could and should be the National Plan for Rare Disease, which will not be really implemented without providing subsidies for patient organizations working in the area of rare diseases. In 2012, the organization became a member of EURORDIS and Alliance TREAT - NMD.

Abstract:
This article aims to collect information related to organic farming. It also deals with the assessment and comparison of shopping behaviour in the organic food market in the Czech and Slovak Republics. Respondents from the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic were addressed within the marketing research - survey and potential factors that could affect young people when buying organic products were formulated. There were also established recommendations to retailers of organic products on how to promote the sales of this item to the young generation of Czechs and Slovaks. For statistical data processing we used correspondence analysis and contingency tables analysis. Correspondence analysis is a multivariate statistical technique. The graphical representation of results from correspondence analysis is commonly done with so-called symmetric maps. Based on the results the target groups for marketing strategy were identified and proposals to increase the frequency of buying organic food were formulated. It has been proven in the Czech and the Slovak Republic that there is a negligible amount of young respondents who buy organic food regularly (less than 8%), and therefore it is necessary to change the existing marketing strategy and support the sale of this item.

Abstract:
This review brings an overview of the Slovak regulations concerning occupational safety and health at work (OSH) primarily considering the parameter of physical load. In addition to regulations, this article focuses on particular requirements at workplaces with an increased physical load and describes the permissible values of the physical load (see tables). Attention is given to assessing the working posture and handling of loads. The main purpose of the evaluation is to determine the parameters of physical load, which is the first important step in the process of health risk assessment. Based on the physical load assessment and the categorization of tasks for the physical load factor in the Slovak Republic, further steps and measures should be taken to improve working conditions, to reduce the workload, number of health problems, fatigue, and ultimately to prevent accidents at work and work-related musculoskeletal diseases.

Abstract:
Talent selection includes a variety of issues that may be classified into several domains following one another (talent determination, talent searching, talent selection, and so forth). One of the most important domains is the determination of sports preconditions – talent (particularly from the viewpoint of assessment and prognosis). The assessment of sports preconditions is based on four domains: somatic parameters, manipulative skills, decision making, and conditioning. The example of the Slovak Republic is presented to demonstrate how sports preconditions are assessed in 6-year-old children. In the pilot study data were collected from 1,669 children (boys: n = 880; girls: n = 789) who performed 12 physical fitness tests. The children attended three types of school: schools with large numbers of students, schools with medium numbers of students, and schools with small number of students, respectively. Data collected from children who were from eight Slovak regions were compared by gender and region in particular physical fitness tests using the contingency tables

Abstract:
The article aims to compare important management factors between SMEs in the service sector and SMEs in other entrepreneurship sectors. The study was realized in the Czech Republic and the Slovak republic over SMEs in the service sector and other sectors in 2019-2020. The data were collected from the owners or top-level managers; the total sample used in the study was 822 SMEs. The questionnaire was constructed in an online version and was fulfilled by 240 SMEs in the service sector and 582 other companies in the Czech or Slovak republic. The research hypotheses were evaluated by basic statistics tools: contingency tables, Z-score, and Chi-square test. The results showed that there are significant differences in the agreed attitudes to the statement: "I manage the company for more than 8 hours a day" between the Czech (62%) and Slovak (71%) respondents in the service business sector. Neither nationality nor the business sector is essential determinants in the perception of human capital as the most critical element in the company (8 out of 10 respondents) and the fact that the owner (manager) of the company should regularly evaluate the performance of its subordinates and motivate them to innovate in work processes. The results are interesting for the entrepreneurs themselves and for entities and organizations that help SMEs' business activities in selected countries, respectively, for economic policymakers.

Abstract:
This study focuses on how two kinds of memory: historical and personal are reflected in a section of Slovak literature of the past two decades. A variety of autobiographical genres and biographically-stylised fictional prose draw on personal memory, and history, is the domain of historical genres, particularly the novel. After the 1990s, the present was deemed important and historical presentations of the past were parodiedin the prose of Peter Pišťanek and Igor Otčenáš. At the beginning of the new millennium, however, prose portraying and reflecting on the past reappeared. Memory- based writing which is concerned with an individual situated within history, or outside of it, is more persuasive. Memory-based writing is used in different forms of autobiographical writing: within fiction it takes a form of biographical stylisation (e. g. Vilikovský, Kopcsay and Rozner). In the past ten to fifteen years, there has been a renewed interest in history in Slovak literature, mainly in pre-1989 history (e. g. Rankov, Krištúfek and Lavrík), which had been mistreated in pre-1989 Slovak literature, and later there was no interest in it or it was even rejected in the 1990s.During that time, historical memory was exploited to meet societal requirement. Silvester Lavrík was an exception—he was able to marry the two basic approaches to the past (personal history and historical) in a form of a dispute between them.

Abstract:
Phonosemantics is one of the youngest disciplines in the modern linguistics but takes an important part in the intercultural communication. The purpose of the article is to carry out the comparative analysis of lexical units of the Russian and Slovak language systems from the perspective of phonosemantics and philological hermeneutics. There has been made an attempt to study the correlation between the phonetic and semantic motivations of lexemes and paroemias (proverbs and sayings) in the system of the Russian and Slovak languages on the basis of the phonosemantic analysis and hermeneutic method. The mechanism for determining the language connotation on the knowledge based system makes it possible to reveal the linguocultural peculiarities of phraseological units, taking into account national-cultural, territorial, ethnolinguistic factors provided the individual’s cognitive abilities are activated. The problem of decoding of semantics in the situation of cross-cultural cooperation is not researched only from the view of the traditional linguistics, but also by means of cognitive activities: perception, presentation, reflection, interpretation. The adequate interpretation of the linguo-cultural phenomena and lexical units is the reflection in the internal communication aimed at the decoding of cultural and language code. In the external communication the reflection of the individual is expressed in the interpretation. The phonosemantic analysis, based on the description of natural-cultural lexical blocks from the view of philological hermeneutics, was revealed at first differences and similarities in Russian and Slovak languages; secondly, it were determined the so-called linguocultural codes. The analysis of lexical units in the Russian and Slovak languages has revealed common and distinctive peculiarities of the languages regarding their phonology and semantics. Perception and interpretation of linguistic units in foreign culture helps to achieve the most important communicative and pragmatic purpose – the establishment of intercultural and interpersonal parity and mutual understanding in the process of communicative interaction.

Abstract Constant change is typical of the current business environment. The ability to manage change is a highly appreciated managerial skill. Being adaptive has become a new competitive advantage of a company. Appropriately and successfully implemented changes can improve corporate performance. This paper aimed to evaluate how Slovak companies had been dealing with change in recent years; whether they had been prepared for it; what tools, methods and concepts they had used; and what ultimately had necessitated them from an economic point of view. The paper explored the current status of change management in the context of business processes particular to Slovak enterprises. A literature review concerning change and process management was provided in order to design appropriate research. The research focused on the level of process-oriented management of change in Slovak enterprises operating in different industrial sectors. The main research method was primary quantitative research via questionnaires. Outputs from the questionnaires were subsequently evaluated by contingency tables and the chi-square test which determined the level of significance via p-value. Research results presented in this paper confirmed a positive influence of business process change on process maturity and corporate performance. The paper contributed to the development of knowledge in the field of change management, namely, process-oriented change management. The creation of a change-based maturity model for enterprises was identified as a new direction for future work with practical implications.

In recent years, several approaches and efforts related to the topic of climate changes have been researched and in some cases also implemented. One of them is the resilient city concept as a tool dedicated for enhancing resilience and decreasing the vulnerability of a city and its citizens in case of a disaster. In this article, the concept of the resilient city is briefly described. The very important role within the resilient city represents the stakeholders. The understanding of the stakeholders’ possible participation in city resilience building is important for city security. For that purpose, the relevant stakeholders’ identification is necessary. Our research was conducted with regard to the data from the Step Up project and takes into consideration recommendations from the resilient city concept.

Abstract:
The paper aimed to identify the awareness and behavior of the population of Slovakia concerning the circular economy. Awareness of the circular economy is a vital factor in effective public participation. The quality of the environment also depends on the level of environmental awareness in society. The circular economy is a very complex issue which requires involvement of all actors in society. The circular economy is currently an actively discussed topic, and therefore we focused on examining the level of awareness of this issue. In general, it is perceived mainly as an economic model that takes the environment into account and prioritizes active waste management. The conducted survey focused on the level of awareness in Slovak respondents. The questionnaire was designed to include all principles of circular economy. We focused on determining the rate of recycling, reusing, reducing, and also the new concept of refusing. Consequently, several hypotheses were analyzed to identify the degree of involvement of the population. At the same time, the survey was intended to introduce the respondents to the idea that they too can participate more actively in the principles of circular economy. In the introduction, we defined the theoretical basis and principles of the circular economy. Subsequently, in the Methodology section, we identified the techniques used to process the questionnaire survey. The Research section describes the outputs and analyzes the established hypotheses. In the discussion, we summarized the results from the Research section and mentioned some of the authors who had handled the same issue in the past. The Conclusion section summarizes the research paper.

Abstract:
The risk of corporate financial distress negatively affects the operation of the enterprise itself and can change the financial performance of all other partners that come into close or wider contact. To identify these risks, business entities use early warning systems, prediction models, which help identify the level of corporate financial health. Despite the fact that the relevant financial analyses and financial health predictions are crucial to mitigate or eliminate the potential risks of bankruptcy, the modeling of financial health in emerging countries is mostly based on models which were developed in different economic sectors and countries. However, several prediction models have been introduced in emerging countries (also in Slovakia) in the last few years. Thus, the main purpose of the paper is to verify the predictive ability of the bankruptcy models formed in conditions of the Slovak economy in the sector of agriculture. To compare their predictive accuracy the confusion matrix (cross tables) and the receiver operating characteristic curve are used, which allow more detailed analysis than the mere proportion of correct classifications (predictive accuracy). The results indicate that the models developed in the specific economic sector highly outperform the prediction ability of other models either developed in the same country or abroad, usage of which is then questionable considering the issue of prediction accuracy. The research findings confirm that the highest predictive ability of the bankruptcy prediction models is achieved provided that they are used in the same economic conditions and industrial sector in which they were primarily developed.

Abstract:
Performing day surgery should minimise a number of hospitalisation cases, but its use is determined by many factors. It takes advantage of the latest advances in surgical care, enabling better use of highly costly specialised operating room equipment. This analysis of the day surgery system of the Slovak Republic stands on an examination of the five specialised fields—surgery, gynaecology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, and urology. The explored period covers the years 2009 to 2017. The whole analysis is divided into the two sections—the youth category and for the adult category. For each case, a hospitalisation ratio is computed. A map visualisation supports the analysis outcome. A quantification of the similarity relationships between the regions is done according to a Euclidean distance approach and it is illustrated through the heat map. The centremost region is the Žilina Region with distance at a level of 1.9821, meaning that it performs as the most similar region to a development of a hospitalisation ratio in the whole Slovak Republic regarding all the examined aspects. The findings introduce an important platform for a creation of regional and national health plans in the area of healthcare provision for the population of the country.

Abstract Calorific value production from the above-ground biomass of stands was derived from its volume production. The mathematical models of growth tables of I-214 and Robusta poplar clones, biomass density values and calorific values of biomass dry matter were used for its calculation. At the stands aged 35 years and site indices of 20, 30 and 40, the calorific value has approximately 2.700, 6.000 and 9.300 GJ.ha-1 respectively. The I-214 clone has higher production than Robusta in the first half of its growth, albeit with minimum differences. The annual increments of calorific value culminate about the age of 9-13 years with values of 450-115 GJ.ha-1. Mean annual production of both clones culminates at the age of 17-26 years with values of 320-80 GJ.ha-1. Lowland forest locations with high level of ground water in Slovakia with the total area of 25.600 ha are most suitable for poplars production. On this area, we can assume the mean annual production of 3.566 TJ of gross calorific value obtained from above-ground biomass in the future. From that, about 64% is in wood, 14% in bark and 22% in small-wood. Up to 85% of this production potential is situated in the area of The Danube Lowland and the rest is mainly in southern areas of the Central and Eastern Slovakia.

Abstract:
Social networks are a phenomenon that has become a regular part of life for the majority of consumers and they spend much of free time there. With the increasing popularity of social networks, the possibilities of their use are also expanding. Recently, the trend of social networks has also penetrated into the personnel marketing. Due to the current situation on the labour market, in addition to traditional techniques, companies have begun to use the tools of the social networks to recruit employees and build their employer brands. The aim of this article is to define the theoretical basis of social networks and their usage in employer branding from the viewpoint of domestic (Slovak) and foreign authors. This includes an analysis of the practical usage of social networks in employer branding. The secondary data for the analysis were obtained from annual companies reports, statistical tables and published professional publications. In order to determine the perception of social networks as a tool for employer branding, a questionnaire survey was conducted among Slovak people. General scientific methods were applied for the processing of the data, as well as mathematical methods to evaluate the data, collated from the results of the questionnaire survey. Based on this, benefits of social networks and their usage in employer branding are highlighted.

Abstract:
The beginning of the end of the demons of consent. Coming to terms with ideologisation in Slovak cultureThe first part of the article focuses on demonstrating the process of ideologisation in Slovak culture after 1948, i.e. after the beginning of communist rule. This reveals the initial fascination with the idea of communism among the creative community and its gradual enslavement. Additionally, on the one hand it examines the results of repressive measures of power, and on the other it looks at conformist intellectual circles. The second half discusses how Dominik Tatarka, a leading Slovak intellectual, deals with the mechanisms of cultural ideologisation and writers’ attitudes, which concluded in his fictional-political-autobiographical novel Demon of Consent (Démon súhlasu). This work reveals the writer’s strategy to show how the experience of totalitarianism fits with the concept of biblical eschatology. The writer does not, however, ignore the different idealised communist conceptualisations of the era, and often incorporates and combines visions of the tragic, ironic and sometimes grotesque. Finally, the article also takes into account the wider context of the writer’s changes in attitude and their consequences. Odsłania początkowe fascynacje środowiska twórczego ideą komunizmu i stopniowe jego zniewalanie, będące rezultatem z jednej strony represyjnych posunięć władzy, z drugiej zaś – konformizmu środowisk intelektualnych. Abstract The present study offers a critical reflection of contemporary Slovak authorial production. Focusing on three films, the author analyses the authors′ approaches to representing reality from a formal point of view. The author claims that all of them relativize the status of documentary film, using as a tool of critical analysis Carl Plantiga’s definition of documentary film, included in his concept of “asserted veridical representation”. The films under analysis use three formally different approaches of relating to social reality. One relies on an acted form, the second takes the form of a historicizing essay, and the third promotes the author’s subjective views through a cut collage of motifs stemming from reality.

Abstract:
A central issue of this paper is to study the patterns invariation of attitudes toward minority language varieties in four minority communities from Hungary: German, Slovak, Serb and Romanian. This study takes part from the research which focuses on how to obtain significant information about the mechanism of the language shift process concerning autochthonous minorities in Hungary. The results demonstrate that in the course of language shift communities at an advanced stage of language shift have less positive attitudes toward their minority languages than individuals from communities where language shift is in a less advanced stage. In Hungarian minority groups speakers’ attitudes toward minority language varieties (dialect vs. standard) are the symptoms of language shift.

Abstract:
Research background: The paper background is based on the importance of maritime trade. The paper offers a proposal for container transport in two different directions along two different transport routes, taking into consideration all trends in the development of port transhipment facilities as well as the development of container transport. The final comparison is determined based on criteria such as speed and complexity of the transport, distance, price for transportation, as well as the risk of endangering the cargo due to shipping through risky geographical areas. These factors, together with other facts, significantly contribute to the final choice of the shipping route both by the shipper and the carrier. Purpose of the article: The main purpose of this paper is to present the basic possibilities of container transportation by sea between North America and Europe, to express the importance of the Transatlantic maritime transport route and to offer a comparison of two transport proposals in a case study. The main objective of the paper is to evaluate the impact of globalization on maritime trade between the USA and Europe, especially the Slovak Republic. Given the rapidly evolving maritime transport situation between North America and Europe, special consideration is also given to the current technical equipment and transhipment technology in the ports through which this trade takes place. Methods: The method used in the paper is the least squares method, that will be used on the prediction of future stage of maritime trade between Slovakia and the USA. For this purpose, methods of regression and correlation analysis will be also used. Findings & Value added: According to data from Review of Maritime Transport between 1995 – 2018, the prediction of stage of maritime trade will be made. The development of the maritime trade will be also predicted.

Abstract:
Input-output tables with input-output data represent a relatively simple but useful tool to analyze the structure of the economy or undergoing structural changes. These tables enable to quantify direct and indirect linkages within each economy, as well as to study demand or supply relationships between particular sectors. The aim of this paper is to present and compare the main characteristics of 2 selected sectors for Slovakia and Austria. The focus is on the agriculture and food sector and their characteristics using the input output data and analysis. We compared basic input and output multipliers in order to verify the similarities in the position and the development of these sectors in selected countries. Other objectives were analysis of sectors’ backward and forward linkages, “measuring” of their strengths, the identification of key industries and concentration of their impacts. With accordance to our previous research and general trends, we expected a certain decline of importance over the analyzed period of 2000-2014.

Abstract:
AbstractThe aim of the paper is to point out the principles of process management and selected quality management tools, which are aimed at improving the processes of the wood processing industries of the Slovak Republic. The knowledge from these areas is based on the analysis of the theoretical origins from domestic and foreign sources and supported by the results of the research carried out in the first half of the year 2017. In the processing of the results, classical methods of research work were used such as analysis, synthesis, comparison, descriptive statistics, contingency tables, chi-quadrat test and graphic depiction. Based on the analysis of the research results, there was a slight dependence between the process optimization levels in the timber industry and other process improvement methods such as statistical process control methods and graphical analysis and problem solving tools.

Abstract:
The paper presents results of the analysis of the accuracy of calculating the volume of standing trees, calculated according to the method used in forestry practice, based on the principle of full calipering of all marked trees with the following calculation of mean height and standing volume according to the method of uniform volume curves. This volume was compared with the exact method for calculating the volume of actual removals including small wood in the beech stands of Little Carpathians in the territory of Lesy Slovenskej republiky, š.p. (Forests of the Slovak Republic, State Enterprise), branch establishment in Smolenice. The values of marked felling (standing trees) and the values of removals including logging residues left on the site will be compared and the difference expressed in percent. The difference between the values in percent is fitted with the accuracy of calculated standing volume (marked logging) established by the author of the method for calculating uniform volume curves, i.e. Halaj. A model curve is chosen by means of the directly detected value of mean stand quantity (mean height, mean diameter, age, site class etc.). The system of uniform volume curves links up with these quantities and gives volumes of individual trees for all diameter classes and corresponding heights. The method of uniform volume curves is used in Slovakia to calculate the volume of marked logging. Results of the analysis show that the volume of standing trees calculated according to the method of uniform volume curves is in reality underestimated by about 5% as compared with the actual volume of processed wood mass including logging residues left on the site. Thus, the calculation inaccuracy in forestry practice is exceeded by the above mentioned 5% as compared with the permitted deviation established through the method of uniform volume curves. Solution of this problem is a proposal submitted to the National Forest Centre in Zvolen for the elaboration of volume tables for the new ecotype of European beech.
