Abstract:
Bocchus vernieri Olmi, 1995 was found in Ta: Tammela, southern Finland, as the first species of the subfamily Bocchinae for Fennoscandia; it is a new species for N. Europe. Gonatopus horvathi Kieffer, 1906 is added to the fauna of Finland; it is also a new species for Northern Europe. The two species are further described on the basis of the new material. The generic position of North European species of Gonatopodinae is re-evaluated, and it is concluded that a single genus, Gonatopus Ljungh, should be recognized, to include two subgenera, Dicondylus Haliday (Haplogonatopus R. Abstract. Old Rauma is a Finnish medieval town. It was founded in the 15th century and although it went through several modifications, it maintained significative features of medieval Nordic urbanism and vernacular architecture. Buildings mostly consist of logs-timber structures, even if there are also few cases of stone constructions; dwellings are usually simple volumes composed of a stone cellar, a first main floor and an attic, that is used for ventilation and secondary domestic activities. The wood is the most used material and slabs, floors, doors, windows, finishing and decorations are

Abstract. The in situ Lu–Hf geochronology of garnet, apatite, fluorite, and carbonate minerals is a fast-developing novel analytical method. It provides an alternative technique for age dating of accessory minerals in lithium–caesium–tantalum (LCT) rare-element (RE) pegmatites where zircon is often metamict due to alteration or radiation damage. Currently most dates from Finnish LCT pegmatites are based on columbite-group minerals (CGMs), but their occurrence is restricted to mineralised zones within the pegmatites. Accessory minerals such as garnet and apatite are widespread in both mineralis

Abstract Introduction: Intracellular cholesterol metabolism plays an important role in prostate cancer progression and emergence of treatment resistance. However, it remains unclear whether serum cholesterol and lipoproteins are associated with prostate cancer outcomes. Studies on serum cholesterol and cancer are often confounded by lifestyle factors such as diet and obesity. A possible solution is to use instrumental variables, such as SNPs predicting serum cholesterol. According to the Mendelian randomization theory, germline SNP distribution is unaffected by confounding variables such as di

What initially sparked your interest in medicine, and what led you specifically to the field of urology? I was not sure about medicine until I was almost 20. In high school I was thinking, besides medicine, about biology, geography, and sports for university. I ended up with the most “secure” one, and I have not regretted that. Life probably would have been quite different if I had chosen something else. In medical school, I was always interested in both medicine and surgery. I don’t think that is very typical. I think many medicine students are clearly thinking that I definitely want, or I de
