Abstract:
Education has been integrated into the globalization process supported by technological advances such as e-learning. The sustainability of the universities is one of the key points of the university survival, and they strongly depend on the number of students that can enroll in them. Thus, many of the educational institutions have had to develop their curricula based on the use new technologies. Without a doubt, virtual laboratories are the latest technology in this regard. The objective of this work is to determine which are the main institutions and research trends in relation to virtual laboratories. The methodology followed in this research was to perform a bibliometric analysis of the whole scientific production indexed in Scopus. The world’s scientific production has been analysed in the following domains: first the trend over time, types of publications and countries, second the main subjects and keywords, third main institutions and their main topics, and fourth the main journals and proceedings that publish on this topic. After that, a case study was analysed in detailed as a representative country (Spain). The most productive institution in this field, Universidad de Educación a Distancia (UNED). If the ranking is established by average citations per published paper, the first three institutions are from the USA: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Washington (Seattle), and Carnegie Mellon University. The scientific categories at world level and in the case of study are similar. First, there is the field of engineering followed by computer science and above all it highlights the wide spectrum of branches of knowledge in which this topic is published, which indicates the great acceptance of this teaching methodology in all fields of education. Finally, community detection has been applied to the case study and six clusters have been found: Virtual Reality, Users, E-learning, Programming, Automatic-robotics, Computer Simulation and Engineering Education. As a main conclusion, bibliographic analysis confirms that research in virtual laboratories is a very active field, where scientific productivity has exponentially increased over recent years in tandem with universities growth. Therefore, expectations are high in this field for the near future. The possibility of virtual laboratories opens up new perspectives for higher education sustainability, where the educational policies of countries could be reoriented.

Khaldun Taner is a great Turkish writer, academic, and journalist. He was born in Istanbul in 1915, and died in his home city of Istanbul in 1986. He wrote many stories and plays during his seventy years of age. Writers describe him according to his writings as one of the most prominent people who used the fluent Turkish language and addressed all classes of people. Many readers have read his productions, both in his life and after his death. His stories "A Morning in the Palace" occupy a great place among all of his stories. We note all kinds of eloquence in this book and that the literary impact of 7 independent short stories can be dealt with from many aspects. In addition to this study, we will study the nature portrayal in the tale of Khaldun Tanner, which bears the name "A Morning in the Palace" which is a wonderful effect. And that the main reason for choosing this topic is because it is the subject of nature portrayal that attracted our attention, and differs from the rest of the studies, and that Khaldoun Tanner provided us with a depiction of nature with his own tale of nature and with great precision through his observation of nature and he has a high experience in narrating it. And events usually take place in Istanbul, where he was born and raised. Despite the concerns of life by going from home to work, he was dealing with nature in a smooth manner. We will study this topic under clear headings. We started this study with a comprehensive summary of the writer. Then we dealt with the life of Khaldoun Tanner and his literary personality and his effects, and then we deal with the body of the research, which is a portrayal of nature in Khaldun Tanner’s story entitled “A Morning in the Palace.

Background. Previous work has indicated that the 2[ratio ]1 female[ratio ]male sex ratio in unipolar depressive disorders does not emerge until some time between ages 10 and 15.Methods. Data from four annual waves of data collection from the Great Smoky Mountains Study (GSMS) involving children aged nine to 16 were employed.Results. Pubertal status better predicted the emergence of the expected sex ratio than did age. Only after the transition to mid-puberty (Tanner Stage III and above) were girls more likely than boys to be depressed. The timing of this transition had no effect on depression rates. Before Tanner Stage III, boys had higher rates of depression than girls, and the prevalence of depression appeared to fall in boys at an earlier pubertal stage than that at which it began to rise in girls. In addition, recent transition to Tanner Stage III or higher had a transient effect in reducing the prevalence of depression in boys.Conclusions. The period of emergence of increased risk for depression in adolescent girls appears to be a relatively sharply demarcated developmental transition occurring in mid-puberty. Previously reported effects of the timing of puberty (which have tended to be transient) appeared less important in increase of risk for depression than pubertal status.

The objective of this work is to use the Malthusian model that takes into account the mathematical tool of Differential equations, in particular the separation of variables, and apply to the study of population growth in the state of Sergipe. The results showed significantly close to the estimated values by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics). It is observed, that the forecast population growth for Sergipe has de-creased, changing from continuous to a discrete model by the year 2050.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine how Brazilian organizations have handled diversity. Design/methodology/approach This study draws upon the historical analysis by focusing essentially on secondary sources of data, surface-level indicators, namely, race, gender and age. Accordingly, the major sources of information used in this study are the rankings of the Great Place to Work® Institute Brazil (between 2005 and 2013) and from the Brazilian Ministry of Labor and Employment’s reports (between 2009 and 2013). Findings The evidence gathered from the Great Place to Work® Institute Brazil’s lists and the Brazilian Ministry of Labor and Employment’s reports produced mixed results regarding the moral imperative derived from the acculturation of a broad diversity mindset. Research limitations/implications This study is not free from limitations. Both sources used in this inquiry do not depict other relevant data that could provide more accurate results. Practical implications Overall, the findings of this study suggest that training programs and sound work values revision are necessary steps to reduce discrimination, stereotypes, gender bias and to promote diversity and inclusion inside Brazilian organizations. Originality/value It contributes to the understanding of the current diversity scenario in Brazilian organizations by drawing on a historical analysis method. It relied on two germane secondary sources of data.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the stock market performance of companies featured in the survey “Best Companies to Work For” as a proxy for corporate culture. Design/methodology/approach The authors employed the portfolio formation and event study methods from finance to examine the linkage between corporate culture and future stocks returns. The lists of India’s best place to work for by Great Place to Work® Institute and Business Today (BT), India’s leading business magazine, form the primary surrogate for a great corporate culture. The authors compared the stock market performance of the culture portfolio vis-à-vis market index, in addition to using Carhart’s (1997) four-factor model. Findings A portfolio of Indian firms that featured in the “Best Companies to Work For” by Great Place to Work© Institute and BT magazine provides a higher return than the market index Sensex both on an ordinary return and on a risk-adjusted basis. The four-factor αs of the value-weighted culture portfolios are significant, implying that these portfolios have provided abnormal returns during the sample period. Moreover, the findings suggest a positive drift in the abnormal returns after inclusion in the “Best Companies to Work For” list. Research limitations/implications The results are largely in conformity with the prediction of the theory that states that corporate culture is an economic asset for a firm that increases its value. Practical implications From an investor’s point of view, the study indicates that investment in “Best Companies to Work For” is a better alternative than passive index investing. Originality/value This study fills the empirical void in the relationship between corporate culture and stock market performance in the Indian context.

issues of the daily life of educational establishments in the Western regions of the Soviet Union which were attacked and occupied in the early period of the Great Patriotic War have been touched upon in this article. The essence of historical science of war is that the paradigm is confined to the study of military operations and battles being the subject of numerous studies, scientific events, documentary chronicles. Many social history moments of wars have undeserved on the fringes of the scientific field of studying these problems. The history of everyday life has recently become a current historical research direction in the national historical science, allowing to reconstruct many events often unfairly unreported in scientific research and left in archival material or memoirs of the their direct participants. The relevance of the project stems from the very limited knowledge of the problem which has not been reflected either in the specialized studies or in the comprehensive studies of history of Smolensk Pedagogical Institute and the region in whole. The main task of the present study is to identify previously inaccessible information on the employees and students of Smolensk Pedagogical Institute who took part directly in the events described, introduction of new historical sources of science, especially personal sources. The work is based on strict adherence to the principle of historism. The article uses the most scientific and productive methodological guidelines of modern historical research directions. The main approach is historical-anthropological. The integrated approach of the study involves the following methods: historical description, historical analysis, comparative history, microhistory. The whole complex of archival heuristics tools is used in the work with the documents. In view of the lack of special works, the individual archives on the topic of the study were based on the materials identified in personal collections, common archives, relating to the military period of the region, memoirs and recollections of witnesses and direct participants in the events described in the proceedings. The study shows that since the first days of the war the staff and students of the Institute were involved in general activities aimed at organization of defense, at the opposition to the enemy, at evacuattion: to ensure the security of buildings and property, to attract to economic, defensive activities, assisting fighter squads. The authors note that at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War the main activities directed to mobilization, defense and evacuation measures in Smolensk Pedagogical Institute were assigned to the Department of Military Training as the most prepared for work in extreme conditions. It has been shown in the article that in July 1941 due to the occupation of the city Smolensk Pedagogical Institute ceased to function as a teaching unit and it resumed its activity only after the liberation of the region in autumn 1943.

Abstract:
Introduction. The article focuses mainly on the activities of I.V. Stalin Crimean State Medical Institute during the Great Patriotic War, its main areas of work. Comprehensive scientific developments on this issue are not available in Russian historiography. Methods and materials. The research is carried out based on a variety of archival sources from the funds of the State Archive of the Russian Federation (SARF, Moscow), which are introduced into scientific discourse for the first time. Various groups of documents are widely involved: correspondence of S.R. Tatevosov, director of the institute, with the authorities on the functioning of the university; directives, decrees of state institutions reflected in the activities of the medical institute; university reporting and planning documentation. Analysis. Employees and students of Crimean Medical Institute were forced to leave the peninsula after the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, from the moment of the threat of occupation of the Crimea. The university team had to be evacuated along the route: Armavir – Tbilisi – Krasnovodsk – Dzhambul – again Armavir – Ordzhonikidze – Baku – Krasnovodsk – Kzyl-Orda. Their wanderings lasted almost a year, however, the university did not stop its activities for a single day as the front was in dire need of medical specialists. Two turnouts graduated in Kzyl-Orda in incredibly difficult conditions. In total, from June 1941 to July 1944, the institute trained 850 doctors, wherefore the university staff was awarded with personal thanks of I.V. Stalin. Results. The heroic history of I.V. Stalin Crimean State Medical Institute during the Great Patriotic War has been restored. The activity of lecturers of the institute during the period of forced evacuation to the territory of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic (the city of Kzyl-Orda) has been analyzed. The stage of resuming the work of the university after its re-evacuation to Simferopol has been recreated in detail, the measures taken to prepare for the beginning of the first academic year in the Crimea in the autumn of 1944 have been restored. In order to prepare the study, the authors have carried out a detailed historiographic analysis, and have selected the source base carefully.

Abstract:
This is the first complete biography of Ernst Kantorowicz (1895–1963), an influential and controversial German– American intellectual whose colorful and dramatic life intersected with many of the great events and thinkers of his time. Born into a wealthy Prussian-Jewish family, Kantorowicz fought on the Western Front in World War I, was wounded at Verdun, and earned an Iron Cross. Later, he earned an Iron Crescent for service in Anatolia before an affair with a general's mistress led to Kantorowicz being sent home. After the war, he fought against Poles in his native Posen, Spartacists in Berlin, and communists in Munich. An ardent German nationalist during the Weimar period, Kantorowicz became a member of the elitist Stefan George circle, which nurtured a cult of the “Secret Germany”. Yet as a professor in Frankfurt after the Nazis came to power, Kantorowicz bravely spoke out against the regime before an overflowing crowd. Narrowly avoiding arrest after Kristallnacht, he fled to England and then the United States, where he joined the faculty at Berkeley, only to be fired in 1950 for refusing to sign an anticommunist “loyalty oath.” From there, he “fell up the ladder” to Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study, where he stayed until his death. Drawing on many new sources, including numerous interviews and unpublished letters, this book tells the story of a major intellectual whose life and times were as fascinating as his work.

Abstract:
This study considers the toxicity and flammability of emitted fuel vapor from un-ignited pools of spilled chemicals on land. It also estimates the thermal radiation levels emitted from such pools in case they catch fire. A software based on EPA dispersion models was utilized to estimate the size and location of the dangerous clouds. The 3D dangerous clouds were presented in downwind, crosswind, and vertical directions from the source of the spill. The growth and decay of the formed dangerous zones with time were also investigated. Among other input data required by the above-mentioned software, the transient evaporation rate from the spilled fuel pool and its area were determined by considering the equations of conservation of mass and energy. The study also considered the situation when the spill is followed by ignition causing a pool fire. In such a case, the main concern for impact assessment was the US EPA-specified limiting radiation levels to which humans or facilities can be exposed. Exposure to 5.1 kW/m2 for more than 30 seconds can cause 2nd degree burns while exposure to the wood charring radiation level of 12.6 kW/m2 for more than one minute can cause fatality for humans. To facilitate this analysis a fire model developed by the US Gas Research Institute was used to find out safe distances from which fire fighting personnel can work towards extinguishing the fire. The application of such techniqus to a case study of an instantaneous accidental spill from a typical mobile gasoline tanker supplying fuel to local petrol stations showed that the toxic and flammable zones may extend to downwind distances of 561m and 399m, respectively. For ignited pools, on the other hand, the dangerous zones corresponding to radiation levels of 5.1 and 12.6 kW/m2 were 199 and 120 meters, respectively. For the case study of gasoline spill from a typical storage tank in a refinery resulted in the possible formation of toxic clouds extending to about 40,000 m and 48 m in the downwind and vertical directions, respectively. The flammability zone, however, was restricted to the pool area only. For most cases considered, parametric studies were performed to investigate the effects of wind speed, atmospheric stability, and vertical height on the size of dangerous zones. An interface between the dynamic results of the dispersion software and the static data of the Doha Geographical Information System (GIS) allowed the immediate identification of the major landmarks affected by the considered accidents. This data would be of a great help in developing an emergency evacuation plan for such accidents.

Abstract:
3D modeling of the thermal hydraulical processes in a fuel assembly head means a great challenge for the CFD technique due to the complexity of its structure and the flow domain. On the other hand, this field is of great importance since detailed knowledge on mixing processes in the assembly heads and calculations on the signals of the thermocouples positioned just above the heads would give very significant information for the safety analyses connected to the power upgrading of nuclear power plants. Therefore development of a complex fuel assembly model was started in the Institute of Nuclear Techniques of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics in the near past. In this paper, the fuel assembly head model, the sensitivity study of it, calculations and results are presented. The main goal of our work is investigating the signal of the thermocouples which are placed just above the fuel assemblies. The calculations were performed with consideration of four kinds of different fuel assemblies. The inlet velocity and temperature fields were calculated by the COBRA subchannel code of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant of Hungary. With all kind of fuel assemblies, calculations were performed with assumptions of normal symmetrical and highly asymmetrical heat source profiles of inner assemblies and assemblies positioned beside absorber elements.

Gasification has great potential to make use of the biomass and wastes as a source for energy among various thermochemical conversion processes. The aim of this work is to study the suitability of yard waste for energy conversion using gasification process by Thermo gravimetric analysis. Yard waste (consisting of leaves, twigs and grass clippings) is collected from the National Institute of Technology Warangal. It is then dried and ground to a particle size of less than 250μm for thermo gravimetric study. Before going to thermo gravimetric analysis; the sample is analyzed to measure the main properties that affect thermal conversion. Moisture content present in the sample is determined by the oven drying method. Proximate is done according to standard ASTM test methods and ultimate analysis is conducted using elemental analyzer. Finally thermo gravimetric analyses is performed at various heating rates of 10, 30, and 50°Cmin−1 in nitrogen (inert) and air (oxidizing) atmospheres. The weight losses of yard waste in inert atmosphere occur in three stages and in air it occurs in four stages.

The presented work is the result of a new collaboration between the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE) and the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) for the investigation of induced seismicity issues. Triggered seismicity associated with the filling of artificial water reservoirs is known since six decades ago. However, it is the case of triggered seismicity more complicated to model their effects. More than 100 cases of reservoir induced/triggered seismicity have been collected around the world and this issue continues today being a research topic of great importance. Indeed, new developments and contributions are constantly being made with the aim of achieve a better understanding of their characteristics and genesis. The main aim of the presented work is to analyze the spatial-temporal evolution of the seismic events recorded around the Pirrís reservoir before, during and after its filled. With the analysis of the seismic events we try to know and control the influence of the reservoir operations on the seismic activity of the area. Different parameters are studied, using methodologies proposed by different authors, in order to explain the possible effects of reservoir filling in changing the stress conditions in the environment and to detect any possible anomaly. Moreover, some analysis have been done in order to find a possible correlation between the water level in the reservoir and the evolution of the seismic activity recorded. Overall, the results of this study will provide important conclusions about the sensitivity of certain parameters to evaluate and model the effects of filling reservoirs on the seismic activity in the vicinity and we will present the spatial-temporal evolution of the seismicity associated with the specific case of the Pirrís hydraulic project.http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/CIGeo2017.2017.6666

Abstract:
Technical Innovation covers the process of creating a new successful competitive product from invention to production and market introduction within a practical company related context. Typically education for this kind of complicated, open ended work requires mastering a wide range of knowledge-areas and a lot of hands-on training practice in projects and workshops. The combination of depth and width is symbolized by the “T-shape”. Well-known learning theories give a good rationale of the teaching approaches that were developed over the years and a confirmation of this approach, including the important role of the experienced tutor, is found in the study of excellent companies. Work of a “T-shaped” engineer in the technical innovation process bears many similarities to the ideal transformation process of a company, like Collins describes in his “Good to Great”. The processes have a very comparable open-ended character, a focus for essence and simple, elegant solutions, opportunities and inventions. Success seems to rely more on the right people and a concentrated shared-goal driven cooperation (“flow”), than on the right methods of work. Collins’ observations and conclusions, applied to the domain of engineering design education helps understanding the earlier reported 15 years success of the International Product Design Engineering (IPDE) course of the Hanze University Groningen, with its combination of lecturing, projects and workshops, with a high reality content and direct supervision. The IPDE-related “Open Dynamic Design” (ODD) project and the educational experiments showed similar observations. Essential is the committed experienced participation in real innovation projects and intensive workshops, lead by very experienced T-shaped supervisors/“masters”, having deep knowledge over a good part of technologies, entrepreneurial and/or design related issues and good understanding of interrelationship and consequences in the other fields. They also should have a track record on the methodologies of product innovation and product development. Like the Collins level-5 leaders, they should be able to be both creative and analytical, give the students freedom and control them at the appropriate moments. They power the theoretical most effective learning “circle” with focused introductions and assignments, their direct, knowledgeable and adequate feedback, and quiet help during contemplation. Then the workshops are really fun and effective. The Loughborough and Glasgow Design engineering courses, the new master course at the Innovation Centre of the University of Technology of Compiegne (UTC) and the one at the Hanze Institute for Technology — an upgrade from IPDE — are built on these insights. To safeguard the continuation of this approach, a pool of experienced and potential (home and guest) T-experts is founded together by the small group of universities and their industrial partners, working jointly in the workshops, projects and modules, training the trainers while training the students - in T-design.

Abstract:
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process invented by The Welding Institute (TWI, United Kingdom) in 1991 in partnership with the National Aeronautics Space Agency. The process is emerging as one of the preferred alternative methods to permanently join materials that are difficult to join with traditional fusion methods (e.g., MIG, TIG, etc.). The welding of various copper alloys to various aluminum alloys is of great interest to the nuclear industry and the electrical distribution industry. The very different melting points of these two alloys preclude traditional fusion welding. Since the pin tool is simultaneously rotating and traversing through the work piece, flow around the tool is asymmetrical. This has led to designating one side of the tool as advancing and the opposite side as retreating. On the advancing side of the weld, the tool has a tangential velocity in the same direction as the weld is being created. The retreating side of the weld tool is the opposite. It can be can expected that asymmetric heating and deformation will occur in the weld due to this advancing/retreating nature of the FSW pin tool. Although previous studies have been performed that have observed this asymmetric behavior in both similar and dissimilar materials, the resulting welds have been of a poor quality. Large statistical experiments were conducted locally to study the effects of tool geometry, process parameters, and material composition have upon the friction stir butt welding of aluminum alloy 6061-T6 to copper alloy 11000 using a modern conventional 3-axis CNC vertical mill. The research seeks to determine (1) which direction a dissimilar metal friction stir weld between aluminum and copper should be executed, (2) the optimal shoulder diameter to be used when friction stir welding aluminum and copper on a CNC mill, and (3) the addition of a third material to act as an aide. The extensive statistical interactions between these parameters is also documented. A weld schedule was developed that resulted in an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) surpassing (greater than 90% of the weaker, more ductile copper alloy UTS strength) what has been documented in the current literature despite the machine limitations of the CNC vertical mill. Proper optimization of the welding schedule developed may approach 100 percent of the basic copper 11000 properties across the welded zone into the aluminum 6061-T6 alloy.
