Tapered plate girders often form part of large-scale structures such as long continuous bridges or industrial buildings where due to considerable loads the higher resistance is required. There are several important reasons choosing non-prismatic girders. Optimal pick point location is discovered in order to have the full buckling capacity of a suspended, non-prismatic, singly symmetric plate girders. The results show that a significant increase in stability occurs at the pick point location of 0.25L, where L is the span length. A bridge utilizing these panels as a reconstruction method was decommissioned three years after the new deck installation, due to unrelated matters. Master´s thesis describes the design and check of the construction of botanical pavillion in Brno. The structure has an elliptical ground plan with dimensions 34 x 20 m, height of 9 m. The supporting structure consists of 16 support curved ribs which are braced at the top of the elliptical steel ring. Between the ribs are inserted purlins which support the perimeter cladding. The supporting structure is designed as an alternative system as girders of glued laminated timber and as system of steel truss girders.
