This paper discusses the role of task design in APOS Theory. The role played by the genetic decomposition in the theory and in task design is discussed. An example of a genetic decomposition for the concepts of inverse matrix transformation and inverse matrix is given. Tasks designed using this tool as a guide are exemplified and a description of their relationship to the genetic decomposition accompanies them. This provides insights about each task and the specific detailed construction it has as its aim. The role of the tasks in the classroom is discussed since the combination of collaborati

AbstractAccording to constructional approaches, grammar consists of an inventory of symbolic pairings of a syntactic form with an abstract meaning. Many of such so-called constructions can be perceived as having highly similar meanings: such pairs have been discussed under the name of alternations, especially in the domain of argument structure, for example the widely documented dative alternation (e.g. John gave Mary a book vs. John gave a book to Mary). This paper explores what status such pairs of constructions can be given in construction grammar, on the basis of a sorting task experiment.

Tasks and problems in problem-based learning (PBL) are supposed to trigger and structure the learning process. The quality of problems in PBL is generally regarded as an important driver of the individual and collaborative learning processes. Although the importance of the PBL task is widely recognized, there is a lack of empirical findings and guidelines for the construction and evaluation of the tasks. The main goal of this study is to develop a valid and useful checklist for the construction and evaluation of PBL tasks. A checklist with critical characteristics of tasks will serve two purpo

Abstract:
Over the past decades, the construction industry lags further and further behind the manufacturing sector when productivity is considered. This is due to internal factors that take place on-site. Almost all of them are directly related to the way that productivity is monitored. Current practices for monitoring labour productivity are labour intensive, time - cost consuming and error prone. They are mainly reactive processes initiated after the detection of a negatively influencing factor. Although research studies have been performed towards leveraging these limitations, a gap still exists in

In additive construction, ambitious goals to fabricate a concrete building in less than 24 hours are attempted. In the field, this goal relies on a metric of print time to make this conclusion, which excludes rest time and delays. The task to complete a building in 24 hours was put to the test with the first attempt at a fully continuous print of a structurally reinforced additively constructed concrete (ACC) building. A time series analysis was performed during the construction of a 512 ft2 (16’x32’x9.25’) building to explore the effect of delays on the completion time. This analysis included
