Abstract:
This project was based on completion of an analysis of ergonomical problems with tattoo machines that exist on the market today, the generation of concepts to improve the situation, and the development of new concepts in the form of sketches, CAD models and physical models. The process began by completing a thorough market analysis. This was done via an information study, a customer survey in the form of a questionnaire that was sent to several tattoo artists, and a self-test in which two different tattoo machines were studied. The result of this analysis showed that the major ergonomic problems had to do with noise level, vibration level, machine weight and balance, poor grip ergonomics, and problems with cord control. These issues were then divided into problem focus areas, that is: tattoo machines (as to problems with noise, vibration and weight), grip, and cord control.Through an extensive concept-generation process, three different solutions were developed: a light-weight tattoo machine which decreases noise- and vibration-levels and made sanitization simple, a silicone grip which dampens vibrations and presents a comfortable and reusable alternative, and a silicone bracelet which reduces poor ergonomic effects on the wrist and eliminates frustration due to poor cord control. These three concepts were chosen due to the fact that they represented the best possible solutions to the ergonomic problems that were found during market research and because of their sales potential. They were then shown in the form of a presentation and physical model at the KEXPO exhibit.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation presents thirty-two poems and an introduction to the collection. In After My Third Tattoo, the poems’ speaker explores methods with which she perceives and constructs reality. Her exploration is the dramatic situation of each poem and the plot of the collection. The poems’ speaker regards physical objects, recalls experiences, and discovers how these objects and experiences hold psychological significance for her. With the intellectual and emotional associations she makes among objects and experiences, the speaker constructs, repeats and varies image patterns. Through her associations, she perceives overlaps in: the rational and emotional, the earthly and divine, the order imposed on her by society and the order that she builds through her own agency, and her perception and the perceptions of others. Finding agency through meditation and language liberates the speaker from identity-making terms that the lesbian speaker rejects.

Abstract:

This thesis uses heuristic and alchemical hermeneutic methodologies and a depth psychological perspective to examine the metaphor and experience of tattoo. The history of tattoos and ideas around healing are explored, as well as the author’s own healing and transformation through multiple tattoo experiences. The author’s analysis illustrates how a tattoo may be not only representative of a snapshot of the psyche in a moment in time, but might also move the psyche toward healing through the exploration of the archetypal energy in the image. In addition, the author explores how the modification of the body has the capacity to change the emotional and psychological relationship to one’s body.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to seek an understanding of the individual perceptions of tattooed persons about the significance of their tattoos, as well as of tattoos on a general level. Furthermore, we intended to investigate how tattooed people perceive the surroundings' perceptions and attitudes based on the tattoos. The study has a qualitative approach with mainly an inductive approach, which, however, also includes some deductive elements. Furthermore, the study adopts idealism and constructivism as ontological positions with a hermeneutic and interpretivist epistemology. The collection of empirical material has been done through semi-structured interviews. Results in the study show that tattoos are a significant component of an individual's creation of identity which interacts with the individual's surroundings. The result also shows that the tattoos and their symbolism are linked to the individual's relationship to the environment and its role as a social being in which societal norms and perceptions are assigned and interpreted. Finally, the results show that tattoos and tattoos as an activity can reflect the contemporary society and its distinctive features.

This study addressed to obtain general information from the residents of five municipalities in the semi-arid region of Paraiba State (Campina Grande, Monteiro, São Mamede, Sousa, Sumé) about their knowledge on the ecological and behavioral (feeding, reproduction, habitat, predation and use) of two specimens of armadillos (Euphractus sexcinctus) and (Dasypus novemcinctus) that occurs in that area, as well as to describe and analyze the cinegetic activities and purposes of game hunting carried on these two species, seeking support conservation and management measures. Data collection was obtained through a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. Among the qualitative methods: free interviews, semi-structured interviews, snow ball technique and guided tours were used; the quantitative data were done on simple averages and percentages in Microsoft ® Excel software and analyzed using the calculation of Fidelity Level (FL). Data were analyzed by an emic/ethics approach in which traditional knowledge were compared with those involved and/or related to the literature. 177 men and 37 women were contacted, whose ages ranged from 16 to 77 years. The results showed that the information regarding the foraging, ecological niche and reproduction were described in a very elucidating way by most of the interviewees, demonstrating a deep knowledge and perception on the ecology and biology of the two species of armadillos studied. Such levels of perception are directly linked to regional and cultural issues of each locality and the practices of creation of those animals in captivity also. The main hunting techniques and capture of those animals were: firearms, with dogs, the use of wire-dog and bucket with water. The people of the semi-arid of Paraiba use the E. sexcinctus and D. novemcinctus such in the local gastronomy, as for medicinal and magical-religious purposes, which were documented in this work for the treatment of 10 conditions or diseases: asthma, earache, wounds, furunculosis, deafness, blocked nose, insect bites, rheumatism, and varicose veins and warts. The practice of recreational and commercial hunting was documented in this research by the residents of the studied localities. From a conservation perspective, the techniques and methods of game described in this work can bring major impacts on population dynamics of these two species of armadillos. Additional studies on the activities of hunting will be useful to contribute to proposals for rules and laws that may regulate the controlled hunting in each region and for implementation of management plans and sustainable use of these species.

Repath, Ian Douglas. "Some uses of Plato in Achilles Tatius' Leucippe and Cleitophon." Thesis, University of Warwick, 2001. http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk/55550/.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to explore the relationship between Achilles Tatius' novel Leucippe and Cleitophon and the Platonic corpus. I have searched for Platonic allusions of various natures and purposes and grouped them into thematic chapters. I have also compared instances of similar uses of Plato in contemporary authors in order to classify both the individual cases and the place of Achilles Tatius' novel in its literary environment, including the intended readership. In my introduction I have argued that through the combination in his works of philosophy and literary excellence Plato was an extremely important figure to the Greeks of the second sophistic. However, despite the increasingly influential opinion that Greek novel readership was not dissimilar to that of other works, the possibility that the Greek novelists used Plato in a more than cosmetic fashion has been relatively neglected. The uses of Plato on which I have concentrated are the employment of Platonic names as allusions to their namesakes; Platonic narrative technique as the model for the dialogue form and open-endedness of Leucippe and Cleitophon with the integration of this technique into the broader question of the discrepancies between the beginning and the end; the allusion to a particularly famous passage of the Phaedrus in the name of the heroine; the repeated allusions to the Phaedran flow of beauty, their purposes and the light they shed on the characterisation of Cleitophon; and the Phaedran scene-setting, indulged in by many other writers, which Achilles Tatius uses in two significant passages. The conclusions I have reached are that Achilles Tatius uses Plato far more extensively and imaginatively than hitherto realised; that such an intimate engagement can shed light on other issues, such as psychological characterisation and the question of humour; that Achilles Tatius wrote something of an "anti-Platonic" novel; and that his work displays many similarities with other works whose sophistication is less in doubt.

Myers, Amanda Dawn. "Self-reflexivity and metafiction in Achilles Tatius' Leukippe and Kleitophon." Thesis, University of Birmingham, 2016. http://etheses.bham.ac.uk//id/eprint/7088/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines the self-reflexive and metafictional aspects of Achilles Tatius’ Leukippe and Kleitophon. The aim is to map this self-reflexivity by examining the intricacy of its narrative structure, revealing the self-consciousness of the text, and thereby comment on the visibility of the author. Achilles Tatius is a notably difficult text. It presents a narrative of complexity, while appearing superficial. Scholars have recognised this complexity, but have yet to produce a clear analysis of how the text functions as a complete work. Through the discourse provided by the theory of ‘metafiction’, this complexity is able to be diagnosed and explored to its completion. It is only through the totality of the text that a complete understanding of Achilles’ novel becomes possible. In examining the text by book-pairs, a comprehensive and intelligent structure emerges, revealing a highly conscious text through its awareness of its own fictive structure. The consequence of providing a comprehensive analysis is that many of these insights cannot be explored to the extent they deserve, as more research remains to be done.

Oyeka, Dumtoochukwu Obiora. "Digitally fabricated epidermal transfer tattoo UHF radio frequency identification tags." Thesis, University of Kent, 2015. https://kar.kent.ac.uk/56651/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the inkjet printing of UHF RFID tags in the form of transfer tattoos for use on the skin. Inkjet printing of these tags is proposed as a cheaper and more appropriate alternative to conventional etching. The work seeks to assesses the performance of inkjet printed epidermal RFID tags using parameters such as read range, transmitted power and backscattered power. The effect of different printing parameters such as the number of conductive ink layers, sintering time and temperature on the performance of the tags are assessed by simulation and measurement. Additionally, techniques to reduce the volume of conductive ink used for the fabrication of the tag are also examined and compared with an aim to determine which has the best achieved read range and ink utilization balance. This would help to reduce the cost of fabrication of the tags. Also, due to some defects being introduced to the tags during the printing process because of printing conditions and characteristics inherent to the printing technology, the effects of these defects on the performance of the printed tag is also examined by simulation and measurement. The robustness of the epidermal transfer tattoo tag was further experimentally determined by exposure to everyday use conditions and situations involving sweat and mechanical friction. Finally, a diversity study on an inkjet printed tag integrated with a medical sticking plaster was performed. This involved the use of two to four tags placed horizontally and vertically in order to determine which orientation offers better read coverage in each of the diversity setups while a volunteer carried out a set of motions.

Marsouin, Michel. Paris 10, 1991. http://www.theses.fr/1991PA100050.

Full text
Abstract:
The constant increase in the practice - especially feminine - of the "professional" tattooists as the extreme diversity of socio-professional categories of recently tattooed persons expresses a present tendency of behavior. Nevertheless tattooing remains widely considered by non-tattooed people as a vulgar act which gives rise to a lack of understanding and rejection, particularly if it is a man who is tattooed rather than a woman. In other respects, tattooing is often likened in psychopathological research to marginal conduct which is both transgressive and regressive, manifesting frequently psychopathic or sociopathic characteristics of personality. Moreover the most generally perceived representation of tattooing reflects, principally but not entirely, the rare preceding studies in human sciences which note connotations of devaluation and stigmatization associated with the tattooed person. Today some innovating and an already known opinions attribute some decorative and sensual ideas to the female tattoo, if it is characterized by esthetics and discretion. Thus the pre-existent stereotype of the "tattooed woman-prostitute" appears to be in decline, expressing a recent appropriation by a minority of women of this marking which was up to the present particularly masculine and devoid of all social desirability. Among tattooed people, the motivations given differ according to sex and method of tattooing, "professional" or "amateur"

Abstract:
This paper investigates the role of tattoo removal in postmodernity. Specifically, I suggest tattoo removal is a technology of self in which the tattooed person can attain absolution from a "sinful" tattoo. This paper explores the construction of the confessional act in two parts: the construction of the confessing subject and the construction of the medical clinic as the confessor's listener. Using the texts medical offices place on the internet to advertise their services, I investigate the text's interpellation of subjects desiring tattoo removal. I then examine the construction of the clinic's status in the confessional act. Websites and brochures on gang tattoo removal provide a dialogue in which the clinic negotiates and attains its powerful position in the confessional act. The paper concludes by investigating the implications of the tattoo remnant, the material effects of the technology of self, and the benefits of studying the body-skin in rhetoric.

Abstract:

While an estimated one-third of the United States population has a tattoo, tattoos are still seen as a sign of deviance. The appearance of the first tattoos in the United States were relegated to the bodies of the lower classes and outcasts of society. Over the past few decades tattoos have migrated on to the celebrity skin of today's pop culture icons. In the past twenty years, tattoos have moved from deviant subcultures to the mainstream, and yet are still considered to be a mark of the disfavored factions of society. The dominant culture continues to regard the bearers of tattoos as social deviants, while at the same time appropriating tattoos for use as fashion statements, beauty enhancements, and mechanisms for continued oppression. While tattoos make their way from the prison cell to the pop culture runway, how are they perceived by law enforcement? Are tattoos still seen as markers of deviance or has law enforcement adopted the mainstream culture's perception and view tattoos as self-expressive artwork? Do tattoos negatively influence law enforcement's judgment where individual discretion is exercised? The purpose of this study was to examine the arrest patterns of arrestees with visible tattoos using a critical theory perspective to determine if tattoos and arrest seriousness are related. This study also examines tattoo placement and type in affecting the severity of arrest charges. The data used in this study is a random sample of 2011 Pinellas County Florida arrestees (N=3,733). Numerous logistic regression models were utilized in this analysis and resulted in no consistently significant association between tattoos (visibility, placement, or type) and severity of offense charges. This provides evidence that the use of tattoos as a marker for deviance does not appear to influence police behavior any differently than other characteristics such as race.

Abstract: The continuous evolution of the game, sustained by performance improvement in ali the determining aspects of the sport performance, requires nowadays the application of a methodology that allows the global and harmonious development of the capabilities related to sport performance in the process of player improvement. Performance structure at collective games is characterized by the interaction between its components, the emphasis of such competition being specifically related to those capabilities of the tactical behaviour which is the essence of the game. The objective of this work is to stablish the basis for a methodology of teaching learning-training of the tactical behaviour at collective games, according to the analysis of its components and their interaction with 'the game. It is proposed a methodology to develop the capability and intelligence of game oriented by "the situational method" to which "genealogical trees" were incorporated in order to allow the systematization of the processes of perception, anticipation and decision making; they also make easier the development of the cognitive capabilities, tactical knowledge and tactical capabilities. The emphasis on the development of the individual and group tactical capability , when permanently worked together with technical capability level through complexes exercises, allows the acquisition of a differential mental representation of the teehnieal-tactieal actions by the athletes, necessary to the solution of problems present in the game. This facilitate the transmission of the necessary information to the discover of the "relevant signals" that conduit to the solution of game problems. Experimental work is composed by two investigation projects conducted with handball athletes divided into groups according to their age and experience for different games. ln the main project we elaborated three types of games for the evaluation of tactical behaviour at a handball game. Two of them were of "practical" sense, one for determining the level of technical capability (composed by tive tests) e another one for determining the level of tactical capability (composed by six tests). A third one, for theorical measurement, is composed by a sequence of four tests consisted of the presentation of slides, draws and schemes for the elaboration of answers and a video film; this was to evaluate the level! of cognitive capability and tactical knowledge of the athletes. Multiple regression models were used for the statistical analysis for the ethnical capability and the video film; in the other tests, it was used the logistic regression because of the errors in binomial mode. The results of experimental work make clear the effective advantages of the process teaehing-Ieaming-training on the tactical behaviour of the game, based on the development of individual and group technical-tactical capabilities and associated to the development of cognitive capabilities. It was observed that age is an important factor for the execution of complex actions, such as those problem solving in the games. On the other side, experience was present at various tests results, but the type of training applied for the teaching-learning-training of tactical behaviour in the game was the most important factor. This confirms the validity of the developed mode!, in which the emphasis on the development of the cognitive processes of perception, anticipation and decision making is characterized, through the genealogical trees structured according to the application of different complexed exercises. The interaction of those factors results on the improvement of motor task execution (habilities). The results revealed an evolution of the athletes¿ performance level after nine sessions of training and the homogeneity of the groups. It was concluded that the developed process of teaching-Ieaming-training may be recommended to its application at schools, teams and clubs

Abstract:
Tattooing is a growing and diversifying practice in the United States (Roberts, 2012), yet mainstream society maintains negative stigmas (Bell, 1999). Nevertheless, individuals attach personal meaning to tattooing (Atkinson, 2002; Kosut, 2000). There is little literature on the tattooed individual?s experience of social stigmatization and its impact on identity construction. This study employed a phenomenological approach to address this gap in the literature. The researcher used a semi-structured protocol to interview seven tattooed individuals (five men, two women; age range 25 - 38 years). Data analysis extracted three main themes: ?identity project,? ?cultural context,? and ?tattoo timeline.? Findings suggest stigmas associated with tattoos remain embedded in the cultural context, most significantly within career. This finding has implications for career counseling. However, participants intentionally defined themselves outside negative stereotypes, and described a sense of community within the tattoo subculture.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The formulaic nature of the Greek novels is often emphasized. The repetition and the topoi, however, mostly affect how they are read; from the perspective of their composition, the novels are constantly engaged in a mutual, innovating dialogue. One can thus take the opposing view, considering the formulaic quality of the same themes. To undertake this comparative study, I have focused on the ambiguous figure of the hero. Because he is simultaneously the subject of the action - in a neutral sense- and the projection of a normative ideal, the hero opens a route, through a formal study of the narrative's construction, to the text's value system. In the fisrt two parts, accordingly, I analyse first the place of Chaireas, Clitophon, and Habrocomes in each network of characters and then the specific trials and stakes of the aventure set for them. .

Abstract:
As permanent tattoos are becoming more popular and common, an increased number of allergic reactions to tattoos is reported. The purpose of this project was to analyze tattoo inks for hazardous substances, and whether they comply to current Swedish and European legislative requirements. The tattoo inks were qualitatively analyzed for pigments, and quantitatively analyzed for metals. A total of 73 tattoo inks were collected from various sources such as a tattoo ink supplier, online retailers, and provided directly from tattoo artists. The labels of each tattoo ink bottle were inspected to investigate their compliance with the Council of Europe and the Swedish Medical Products Agency. Matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-ToF-MS) was used to qualitatively analyze 20 selected tattoo inks for different pigments. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was used to quantitatively analyze trace metals in 70 of the samples. A large majority (90%) of the tested samples violated the requirements and criteria in the European resolution ResAP 2008(1), such as information on name and address of the manufacturer, minimum date of durability, sterility, batch number, and storage. Patch and allergy testing were incorrectly recommended for many samples in a way that is not accepted by dermatologists. In a worst-case scenario, this testing could be a sensitizing step. Also, it can not prevent future allergic reactions from occurring or provide any juridical insurance. Only one brand, World Famous, fulfilled the requirements for labeling for six of the seven samples (one sample failed due to a faulty declared pigment). The brands Tang Dragon and Dynamic did not fulfill any of the requirements listed in ResAP 2008(1). The list of ingredients was incorrect for all samples from Tang Dragon (bought prior to 2019 online). Also, six of the other 50 samples from different brands (World Famous, Intenze, Fusion Tattoo Ink, Eternal Ink, Solid Ink) declared at least one pigment incorrectly in their ingredients list. 25% of the declared and theoretically detectable pigments were detected by means of MALDI-ToF-MS, whereas the other pigments were either absent or below the limit of detection. Future analyses should include an MS/MS analysis. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) was identified qualatively in 15 of the 20 samples analyzed with MALDI-ToF-MS but was not listed in any of the ingredients lists. ICP-QQQ-MS is a very sensitive technique and could both detect and verify the presence of all metal-containing pigments, as well as the level of impurities. Copper was clearly more present in green and blue colors, regardless of the brand. The metal content was evidently dependent on the brand for arsenic, aluminum, bismuth, chromium, nickel, zinc, and strontium. Elevated levels of barium and strontium (partially very high levels: up to 727 mg/kg barium and up to 8.06 g/kg strontium) were found in several samples. High amounts of aluminum (4 to 11,0 g/kg) and titanium (as judged from white precipitates and ingredients lists) were present in most samples. Nickel (0.1 to 41 mg/kg) and chromium (0.1 to 139 mg/kg) were also present in the samples. Some other impurities were also present (arsenic – 3.8 mg/kg, mercury – 1.6 mg/kg, and lead – 5.4 mg/kg for one sample, respectively). Known sensitizing pigments were declared and partially confirmed by MALDI-ToF-MS in 17 of 53 samples of the brands Radiant Colour, Eternal Ink, Fusion Tattoo Ink, and Kuro Sumi. Four samples (from Intenze, Eternal Ink, and Kuro Sumi) also declared pigments listed as non-suitable substance according to the European Commission regulation on cosmetic products from 2009.

The PCR were performed using genomic DNA extracted from liver, spleen, lymphnodes and skin of 21 D. novemcinctus, Euphractus sexcintus and Cabassous tatouay armadillos from the Middle Western region of the State of São Paulo. From those, 17 samples were taken from the DNA Bank of the Fungal Biology Laboratory at Department of Microbiology and Immunology IB - Botucatu, UNESP. Standardization of the technique was done in M. avium experimentally infected hamsters and M. leprae experimentally infected D. novemcinctus tissue from the Laboratory Animal House at Instituto Lauro de Souza Lima, Bauru-SP. No one of the wild armadillos showed natural mycobacterial infection. Only the armadillo inoculated with material collected from untreated multibacillary leprosy patient was PCR positive. The genomic sequencing revealed 100% identity with M. leprae. According to these preliminary studies, based on the methodology, we may conclude that wild armadillos seem play a role on epidemiology of leprosy in the Middle Western region of the State of São Paulo.

Abstract:
The topic “tattoo” have been explored in different fields of knowledge, from different theoretical and methodological frameworks, yet the activity of “tattooing”, either as craft, occupation or profession, have been, apparently, neglected. In this sense, from a immersion of 19 months at a tattoo studio in Porto Alegre, southern Brazil, the work of “tattooists” emerged as a rich empirical field to observe and analyze apparently deviant activities, since, although a portion of society realize the “tattooing” as a profession, the “tattooists” or “tattoo artists” have clarity about their professional status. In this scenario, the borders of Administration and Human Resources Management emerged and stressed the importance in understanding, more specifically, how these people play and develop their experience in this activity, oriented or not by a desire to be recognized by others as professionals. Therefore, the central concept is not Professions, but Careers. Understanding it as an analytical bridge between individual and institution, by Everett Hughes, a sociologist at the Chicago School, is through understanding the career of “tattooists” that is possible to understand they live, comprehend and deal with a profession, apparently, not established. Thus, the research problem identified is the following: how the people who tattoos experiences their career? This issue includes the search for understanding how a person lives and narrates his/her career, focusing on elements of the occupation, understood as not yet institutionalized objectively, but subjectively established, exploring the status and social roles which he/she lives, the turning points that are negotiated and the elements that make them understand their occupation as a profession. Thus, career, still covering all aspects of life, is analytically focused on professional aspects. This is due to the inclusion of this work in the field of Management and Personnel Management, pointing to interest the understanding of seemingly different careers and occupations of the status quo, so that it can generate ideas and inspirations for the area. To answer it, I conducted a qualitative and exploratory research, guided by the method of Life History, contemplating Narratives, which were used both for the collection and for the analysis and presentation of the path. Besides them, were also used as sources of information visits to the field, conventions, specific literature searches, readings and social networking and news on the Internet. As a result, it seems that the person who experiences the Tattoo Career understands the occupation as a profession, determining elements along the path of life, proving the activity as a professional one; that there are steps that must pass as well as status, roles and institutions; that passing by conflicts and dilemmas during the career and in a characteristic labor market, which may influence, too, in the form of zig zag the path ends up outlining. In short, it seems to form a “standard career” due to repetition of some temporal tracks and experiences. Finally, future research perspectives are presented.

A good part of the Neopaleozoic section of the Paraná basin is well-exposed in central-east Sao Paulo, Brazil, represented by sedimentary rocks of the Tubarão Group (Itararé Subgroup and Tatuí Formation) and the Passa Dois Group (Irati and Corumbataí formations). Between Leme and Capivari and in the area of the Pitanga Dome, between Piracicaba and Ipeúna, the transition between the Tatuí and Irati formations commonly is characterized by abundantly fossiliferous, poorly sorted, relatively coarse sandstones (sandstones with granules, conglomeratic sandstones and conglomerate) in abrupt contact with silty shale of the Irati Formation. The present work concentrated on the study of Palaeozoic palaeovertebrates and their significance for paleontological, sedimentological and stratigraphical interpretations of the transition between the Tubarão and Passa Dois groups. The identified fossil content consists of scales, teeth and bony parts from several types of fish, from fresh and salt water, as well as from possible tetrapods. Chondrichthyes are represented by two varieties of cladodont teeth; several types of teeth of the xenacanth ?Pleuracanthus? albuquerquei Silva Santos, 1946; teeth of Orodontiformes; teeth of two species of Petalodontiformes, the first, and more common, Itapyrodus punctatus Silva Santos, 1990, and the other, represented by a single specimen, an unidentified species. The material also includes a fin spine of an adult Ctenacanthiformes and a possible placoid scale. The fauna of Osteichthyes is more abundant, being composed of teeth and ganoid scales of Paleonisciformes and cosmoid scales of Actinistia. Also observed are large labyrinthodont teeth (from primitive tetrapods and/or rhipidistid fish) and bony parts attributed to fish and/or possible amphibians. The fossils are usually disarticulated and dispersed and the bony elements fragmented and abraded. Even so, teeth of continental animals - labyrinthodonts and Xenacanthiformes, were found with different types of preservation, which is indicative of a fluvial influence. The mixture of marine elements, like petalodonts, and continental elements suggests a nearshore character with a strong continental influence for the transition between the units. Taphonomic studies suggest that the studied layer is a residual (lag) deposit that resulted directly from reworking by waves. Thus, the Tatuí - Irati transition is part of the depositional evolution of the early Irati Formation. It is therefore suggested that the transition be recognized as a local basal facies of this formation of great paleontological and stratigraphical importance in the central-eastern part of the state of Sao Paulo.

Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the development and shifts in perception of the tattoo practice. For centuries, the negative image of tattoos has been manifested in Korean society and has only shown visible changes in the past two decades. In recent years, the topic of tattoos in South Korea has become notably more popular and broadly discussed. To give a structured and detailed historical review of the tattoo custom in Korea, two articles in Korean by Kim Hyŏng-jung (2013) and Yi Tong-ch’ŏl (2007) served as main sources. By conducting a semisystematic review with a qualitative approach, the accessed data was examined, compared, and synthesized. The results show that the tattoo practice, although still not fully accepted by all, has gradually developed into its own culture in contemporary South Korean society.

In March 1930, Ishikawa Tatsuzō was never noticed in the literary world, so he left Japan for Brazil as an agricultural immigration supervisor. After staying in Brazil for more than a month, he returned to Japan by reason of getting marriage. Afterwards, Ishikawa Tatsuzō won the first Akutagawa Prize for “Sōbō”(Part1-“Sōbō”), a novel based on his experience in Brazil. From this time, he gained great fame. In July 1937, The Second Sino-Japanese War broke out. At the end of the same year, Ishikawa Tatsuzō was dispatched to China as a special reporter by the Chūō Kōron publishing company. And he wrote “Ikite iru heitai” on this subject. However, the content was considered too "real" to describe the scene of Japanese soldiers killing Chinese people and was forced to be published by the Japanese authorities. Ishikawa Tatsuzō and the publisher of the Chūō Kōron publishing company, Amemiya Yozo, were also sued in succession, which was known as the "Ishikawa Tatsuzō incident”. In September 1938, Ishikawa Tatsuzō once again participated in the Battle of Wuhan. He engaged in cultural work in the field of propaganda. In January of the following year, he published “Bukan sakusen” with this experience. Although Ishikawa Tatsuzō emphasizes that this work is rich in “documentary” and is written from an “objective” point of view, it is considered to be a work of “loss of reality”. From February to July 1939, Ishikawa Tatsuzō published “Sōbō”(Part2-“Nankai kōro”)and “Sōbō”(Part3-“Koenaki tami”). The three texts discussed in this paper are “Ikite iru heitai”, “Bukan sakusen” and “Sōbō”(sanbusaku). They are all Ishikawa Tatsuzō’s pre-war long works. After reading the text, we find that in addition to the description of killing scenes, the documentary of the battlefield, and the description of the emigrant’s mood, the works also portrayed the attitudes of the refugees, and the old, the weak, the women and children. Ishikawa Tatsuzō also depicts a strong contrast between the glory of the imperial Kingdom, and the wounded soldiers. This article will examine and analyze these three works in detail, and explore the descriptive techniques of Ishikawa Tatsuzō's creation of “realism”.

Abstract:
As a rapidly growing, multibillion dollar industry, tattooing is quickly becoming a mainstream art form and commodity. Although the ancient art form, originates from civilizations all over the world, the modern history in the United States has largely limited Black individuals from receiving the recommended training (apprenticeship) until about the last twenty-five years. The purpose of this study is to explore the history of the Black Tattoo Community in Atlanta. The following questions will guide the study: What is the history behind the Black Tattoo Community in the Atlanta area? What are the experiences of Black artists apprenticing and learning to tattoo? What are the differences, if any, when tattooing people of color? What impact has television, the internet, and social media had on the tattoo industry, and in particular on Black tattoo artists? This study utilizes an oral historical interview method to answer these questions.

Why do people get tattoos? It is believed that this question has always been kept in people’s mind. The meaning of tattoo has been continuously changing time after time. Today, the tattoo has been transferred to a different type of trendy style to fulfill people’s desire against the tradition due to the power of “fashion”. Nowadays, not only men can get tattoos. The tattoos shown on women’s body tell people that women have self-determination on their body as well. To modern women, the tattoo refers to a fashion trend. For human, the structure of the culture is the evidence to prove the human’s existence while the tattoo means the determination of the outlook. As a result, the main background story of this creation is based on the myth of women culture. Further, this creation comes up with symbols according to the two levels of signification of Roland Barthes’ theory and transforms the symbols into the design of tattoos for women. Finally, this creation combines the design of tattoos with women’s body to draw the cultural story of the tattoo on the poster. It is hoped that this creation can give the tattoo with new cultural value and perspective.
