Abstract:
Purpose – This paper aims to analyze the impact of conjectural “too-big-to-fail” (TBTF) guarantees on big and small US financial institutions’ stock prices during the 2008-2009 banking crisis. Design/methodology/approach – The paper analyzes shocks to stock market investors’ expectations of government aid to banks in distress and respective spillover effects using an event study approach. We focus on three major events in late 2008, namely, the Lehman bankruptcy, the Citigroup bailout and the first announcement of the Capital Purchase Program (CPP) by the US Government. This paper analyzes the key provisions and legal characteristics of China’s Food Security Safeguard Law (2023) from the perspective of international trade law, examining how they relate to WTO trade disciplines, particularly GATT 1994, the Agreement on Agriculture, and the TBT and SPS Agreements. While food security has traditionally been regarded as a matter of national policy autonomy, its implementation today increasingly requires alignment with multilateral trade rules. The law institutionalizes China’s objectives to strengthen domestic food self-sufficiency, restrict foreign capital in gr

AbstractA 42‐year‐old Vietnamese egg factory worker in Ishikawa prefecture, Japan, presented with itchy concentric erythema on the trunk and left calf. The lesions tested positive by direct potassium hydroxide examination, and two fungal strains were isolated. The isolates produced conidia abundantly and were morphologically indistinguishable from Trichophyton mentagrophytes/interdigitale, but were identified as Trichophyton indotineae by internal transcribed spacer sequence of ribosomal DNA. The lesions were refractory to treatment with topical luliconazole (LLCZ) cream for 4 weeks but subsid

Abstract Non-tariff barriers (NTBs) contribute more than tariffs to overall market access trade restrictiveness. NTBs can be very diverse, including (i) import controls; (ii) state aid and subsidy measures; (iii) public procurement and localization policies; and (iv) Sanitary and Phytosanitary Standards (SPS), Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), and capital controls, thus shaping a growing share of modern trade policy. There is no multilateral instrument that would allow a global overview of all perceived ‘barriers’ affecting world trade in goods or the manner in which they evolve over time. Th
