Abstract:
The monograph contains the results of research, systematized in five groups. The first group is presented with information about the current vectors of the development of the personnel management system, the harmonization of its statics and dynamics, the benchmarking of human resources, the impact of personnel management on the growth of labor productivity as the main factor of efficiency. The content of the second group is the specifics of health management in the workplace. The third group presents issues of social well-being and social interaction of employees, najing, and corporate remuneration. The fourth group includes the problems of personnel aging, the biological and socio-economic determinants of the phenomenon, and the idea of maintaining labor success. The content of the fifth group focuses on the representation of parental labor, as well as the readiness of the domestic higher education system to respond to the requirements of the modern economy and perceive it as a new normality. For postgraduates, undergraduates, students, researchers who are engaged in research in the field of personnel management, as well as the teaching staff of universities and employers.

Abstract:
Social sciences are only rarely integrated into graduate medical curricula, though there have been several calls for increasing social sciences in medical education. The usual approaches to teaching the social sciences in graduate medical education in the current literature include basing curricula on the Behavioral and Social Sciences model or the Social Determinants of Health model. One further approach attempts to teach competencies that suggest intersections between the social sciences and competency frameworks. A foundation of social science knowledge, analogous to the foundational basic science and clinical science knowledge learned by trainees to support medical expertise, could support the broader competencies required for trainees to become competent physicians. This chapter describes a model of foundational social science knowledge, developed from research findings. The chapter provides curricular ideas, practical tips, discussion questions, and helpful links for program directors looking to incorporate social science teaching in their programs.

Escher, Beate, Peta Neale, and Frederic Leusch. Bioanalytical Tools in Water Quality Assessment. IWA Publishing, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.2166/9781789061987.

Full text
Abstract:
The first edition of Bioanalytical Tools in Water Quality Assessment was released in 2012. The field has exploded since and the second edition updates and reviews the application of bioanalytical tools for water quality assessment including surveillance monitoring. The book focuses on applications to water quality assessment ranging from wastewater to drinking water, including recycled water, as well as treatment processes and advanced water treatment. Emerging applications for other environmental matrices are also included. Bioanalytical Tools in Water Quality Assessment, Second Edition, not only demonstrates applications but also fills in the background knowledge in toxicology/ecotoxicology needed to appreciate these applications. Each chapter summarises fundamental material in a targeted way so that information can be applied to better understand the use of bioanalytical tools in water quality assessment. The book can be used by lecturers teaching academic and professional courses and also by risk assessors, regulators, experts, consultants, researchers and managers working in the water sector. It can also be a reference manual for environmental engineers, analytical chemists and toxicologists. ISBN: 9781789061970 (Paperback) ISBN: 9781789061987 (eBook)

Trinh, Nhi-Ha T., and Justin A. Chen, eds. Sociocultural Issues in Psychiatry. Oxford University Press, 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/med/9780190849986.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
This book explains fundamental concepts in cultural psychiatry using a case-based format and is geared toward clinicians and educators in the mental health fields. Whereas similar books have focused on providing guidelines for working clinically with specific populations, such as racial/ethnic or sexual/gender minorities, this book aims to expand the concept of culture as both multifactorial and dynamic, and to enhance knowledge and skills for translating theory into practice across diverse patient populations and clinical contexts. Chapters cover culture as a multidimensional construct; the way cultural issues have been treated in successive editions of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders; global psychiatric epidemiology; social determinants of psychiatric illness; the checkered past of psychiatry as a profession; minority stress theory; explanatory models of mental illness; the roles that religion, spirituality, gender, and sexuality play in the psychiatric encounter; implicit bias; how to respond to patients who request a provider of a specific race or gender; handling cultural challenges; and teaching sociocultural psychiatry across the lifespan. The goal of the book is to educate mental health clinicians at all levels, whether trainees, junior faculty, or senior faculty engaged in lifelong learning.

Breilh, Jaime. Critical Epidemiology and the People's Health. Edited by Nancy Krieger. Oxford University Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/med/9780190492786.001.0001.

Abstract:
This book provides a groundbreaking approach to critical epidemiology for understanding the complexity of the health process and studying the social determination of health. It presents a powerful critique of Cartesian health sciences; the flaws of the “functional health determinants” model; and reductionist approaches to health statistics, qualitative research, and conventional health geography. It is a consolidated and well-sustained text that explains the role of social–gender–ethnic relations in the reproduction of health inequity, proposing a new paradigm with indispensible concepts and methodological means to develop a new understanding of health as a socially determined and distributed process. It combines the strengths of scientific traditions of the North and South to bring forward a new understanding and application of qualitative and quantitative (statistical) evidence that goes beyond the limits of conventional epidemiology—public and population health. The book presents alternative conceptions and tools for constructing deep prevention. It provides a neo-humanist conception of the role of health and life sciences that assumes critical, intercultural, and transdisciplinary thinking as a fundamental tool beyond the limiting elitist framework of positivist reasoning. It is an important source of fresh ideas and practical instruments for teaching, research, and agency, based on a renewed conception of the relation between nature, society, health, and environmental problems.
