Abstract:
Objective: To explore the legal implications of the empiric literature and relevant legal literature on tech-check-tech. Methods: Two reviews were made: one of the states' and US holdings' laws regarding technician credentialing and tech-check-tech, and another of the empiric literature on tech-check-tech. Data Sources/Selection: The International Pharmacy Abstracts database and PubMed were searched for articles using the following key words: Tech* & accuracy, Tech* & check, Tech* & error, and tech-check-tech. When searching PubMed, the term “pharmacy” was added in each search. This search was verified July 2, 2002, to ensure that no articles were missed. Full articles and meeting abstracts were included if they contained data that allowed for comparisons between pharmacists' and technicians' accuracy or error rates in checking. Primary, secondary, and tertiary sources were used. All articles included were searched on the Web of Science to find other relevant articles. The bibliographies of the included articles were also checked. Data Synthesis: Thirty-five of the 53 US states and holdings (66%) either license, register, certify, require Pharmacy Technician Certification Board certification, and/or have technician training or educational requirements. Four states (7.5%) allow tech-check-tech in some form. Ten empiric studies were found that investigated tech-check-tech. The error detection rate was available in only 2 of the studies and showed nearly the same rates (technicians 97%, pharmacists 94%). Conclusions: This work found no evidence suggesting that tech-check-tech should not be adopted for unit-dose cart fill in every state. The credentialing of technicians varies greatly from state to state. Tech-check-tech procedures are sparsely used in the US. Training may improve accuracy, and the average error detection rate was higher for technicians than for pharmacists.

Abstract:
CHDS State/Local
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited
How do emergency managers communicate vital life-safety information when disaster strikes and the power goes out, sometimes for extended periods? Time and again, our power grid, aging and stretched beyond its intended capacity, has experienced failures. Power outages can quickly shift from being annoying to deadlyespecially when temperatures are extremeparticularly for elderly and other vulnerable populations. Emergency managers will be able to use the findings of this research to communicate critical information to the community, even in the direst circumstances, without relying on a techno-fix. A structured focused comparison of three disasters revealed that a high-tech, low-tech, no-tech framework can be implemented successfully and inexpensively. Throughout the three disasters studied, communications methods in the high-tech, low-tech, and no-tech areas were successful in communicating with the public. The thesis recommends that every community be prepared with this three-pronged approach. To go a step further, the study recommends that FEMA consider incorporating the high-low-no-tech approach into its COOP (Continuity of Operations Plan) template, which currently assumes that communications systemsphones, Internet, email, two-way radioswill be operational within 12 hours of activation, an optimistic assumption. A sample implementation plan with cost estimates is included.

Abstract:
TESIS PARA OPTAR AL GRADO DE MAGÍSTER EN ADMINISTRACIÓN
Montanares Contreras, José, [Parte I], Solís Parra, Karen, [Parte II]

Abstract:

The internationalisation process of companies has for long been popular to observe among researchers. Although many of the developed theories do explain this process rather accurately, we found them too general in their definition of what sorts of companies they apply to. In this dissertation we compared the internationalisation process in high-tech companies to low-tech companies in an attempt to observe differences or similarities. Was it really possible that the existing theories or at least some of them could explain this process in two so clearly different business sectors? Our conclusion is that they could not. The research of this dissertation found main differences between high-tech and low-tech companies in country focus, network-settings, and what phase their products were in at the time of their internationalisation process. As a by-product we also observed the importance of personal experience in the choice of market, which seems to be closely linked to small companies, that is thus both in high-tech and in low-tech companies.

Abstract:
Advances in educational technology have changed the way educators teach and shaped the way of children learning. As new products continue to be introduced at a rapid pace, teachers are becoming more reliant on it to engage learners and keep them hooked. In 2013 there was a national survey of teachers held by PBS Learning. The media confirmed that three-quarters of the teachers claimed educational technology made teaching easier. They felt educational technology allowed them to "do much more than ever before" for their students.

Abstract:
This thesis is an in-depth investigation into the information-seeking behaviour of the so-called Net Generation, Generation Y or Millennials. The idea of a Net Generation that is tech-savvy has continued to have resonance with educators, politicians and the general public, in spite of a growing body of academic research which has produced evidence to the contrary. Understanding young adults’ information-seeking behaviour is an important first step preparing them for an online future.

Abstract:
The concept of sustainability has been becoming more and more important all over the world. It is an urgent need to make all processes "sustainable" in order to protect the environment and human life. Numerous technical innovations are emerging to ensure sustainability. These rapid developments, especially in architecture, make it increasingly difficult to distinguish the concepts of sustainability and technological innovations from each other. Sustainability has started to take place in our lives as a completely technology-oriented concept. This article is to seek an answer to the question of whether the concept of sustainability in architecture can be achieved with low technology. It also discusses which approach should adopt to ensure sustainability.
