This article explores some recent macroeconomic and microeconomic approaches to financial digitalization and the relationship between banks, FinTech and BigTech. It also deals with new approaches to identify the adoption and implications of financial digitalization by consumers. We show competition between traditional banks and tech companies is mostly driven by their relative ability to manage information sharing. Regulation is still considering ways of providing a level playing field while industry participants are reacting with a mixture of strategies, many of them based on cooperation. The paper also shows there are different ways in which customers access financial digital channels and new approaches from matching learning and brain studies to identify behavioral patterns in financial digitalization decisions.

The rapid acceleration of scientific and technological progress, which started at the beginning of the 21st century, has become a decisive factor in influencing the global economy. Who will lead the global innovation race? This problem is especially relevant in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). At the moment, the United States and China are the main participants in the battle for dominance in this area. The author assesses Chinas innovative potential in the field of AI and identifies its achievements in this area. Based on the statistics provided, Chinas AI leadership has reached a critical point. China is confidently leading the new fundamental research of artificial intelligence, forming its theoretical base and applied research and development, which will contribute to the creation of new high-tech innovative products and services. However, in terms of the number and quality of AI specialists (AI Talents) and the number of companies engaged in AI, China is still lagging behind its main rival, namely the United States. The author proved that, despite the obvious successes of China, the United States still has an equal lead in the global innovation race.

Abstract:
Governmental support in the formation of economic and intellectual potential of Kuzbass contributes to more comfortable conditions for development of business and improvement of life quality of the population. Strategic branding tools are an effective mechanism which allows building up long-term and trusting relationship with the local people and introducing certain values. The effect of external shocks including the COVID-19 pandemics on the functioning of social and economic spheres also reveal the necessity of their structural transformation and the need for raising digitalization level. The authors of the article suggest a number of strategic initiatives aimed at improving the business reputation of Kuzbass. Kuzbass Trading House can become a centre for promoting Russian hi-tech companies abroad, presenting investment projects. It also can act as an integrator of international engineering projects and a driver for technology transfer. As digitalization tends to spread wider and wider the authors suggest creating an electronic platform «KuzbassTrade» to improve the performance of Kuzbass Trading Centre and build the financial stability of the region. The platform will function as a virtual presentation of products, services and technologies of local representatives of corporate and scientific sectors. State institution «Agency for Investments Attraction and Protection» and leading higher educational institutions and research organizations of Kuzbass should strategically take direct part in creating a unified chain for determining innovative technologies to be implemented (including patent landscape and market niche analysis) and form investment package offers for building new manufactures and consortiums.

Abstract:
Purpose - The aim of this study is to bridge the gap regarding digital transformation challenges and common pitfalls for low-tech SMEs. In doing so, we provide a framework presenting common pitfalls in digital transformations for low-tech SMEs and five mitigation strategies to aid in avoiding them and thus, enabling a higher success rate of digital transformations. Method - To answer the research questions, a thematic analysis was conducted based on data collected through three waves of semi-structured interviews. In total, 17 interviews were held with informants such as industry experts, the case company, and low-tech SMEs that had already successfully performed a digital transformation. Findings - The analysis resulted in 22 common pitfalls within four areas: Strategy, digital maturity, resources, and resistance to change. These built the foundation of the five mitigating strategies: Create mutual goals, break down changes into steps, spread the competence, change to improvement, and prioritize business development. Theoretical contribution - This study adds to existing literature by identifying the low-tech perspective of a digital transformation and presenting that SMEs’ difficulties are closely related to their size, lacking digital maturity, and an absence of transformational strategies. Furthermore, our findings enhance previous studies in suggesting a shift in perspective where digital transformation should be viewed as a business development method rather than only a change of the daily processes. Practical implications - This study maps out key risks and common pitfalls for managers in low-tech SMEs about to perform a digital transformation. Moreover, five mitigation strategies are presented aiming to aid organizations in their strategic work. Limitations of the study - The research has focused on one low-tech SME in the automotive industry. Data collection focused on gathering depth rather than quantifying findings, and thus, the generalizability might be limited.

Abstract:
Digitalization is the process of making digital everything that can be digitised to change a business model and provide new revenue and value-producing opportunities. However, difficulties exist in evaluating the value created by digital technology investments in organisations, industry structures, economies and society, at large. My dissertation illustrates how the distinct characteristics of digital technologies are implicit in an evolution from stable to fragile product innovation; while highlighting the need for a dynamic approach to entrepreneurial innovation within national innovation systems. The foundations for my work are bound up in the digitalization of value networks, and the context for this research is digital cinema - a process that began in 2000. Digital cinema offered a new value proposition to distributors and significant cost reductions for the US studios. With a reliance on a highly developed value chain to protect intellectual property, these studios sought to learn from the disruption digitalization caused to the music industry, by cultivating digital technology as an, incremental innovation, in replacing celluloid with bytes to project content to cinema audiences. Global digital cinema penetration in 2014 stood at 90 per cent of the total screen footprint. The dissertation assesses features of this digital rollout that have been under-explored; including the role digital technology has assumed in process and product innovation; and, the behavioural responses of both incumbents and new entrants during the diffusion and adoption phase. My dissertation is supported by eight published papers, which highlight the need for domestic policymakers to focus their attention on emerging entrepreneurial innovations; the utilisation of current knowledge and strategies for novel solutions in order to strengthen their respective national innovation systems. Taken together they help explain the creation, diffusion and adoption of digital cinema, explore the new content creation opportunities they support, and explain how three nations in particular have sought to innovate and reorientate themselves in relation to these novel phenomena. The wider implications of the findings of the project build on the innovation literature in examining the diffusion, adoption and knowledge acquisition during the rollout of digital cinema technology. These findings suggest a radically different reading of both disruptive innovations and national innovation systems than has been offered in previous accounts, viewing the digital cinema rollout as a case study of an increasingly mobile sector, in which technological factors retreat in importance behind entrepreneurial innovation as a key driving force in reaching audiences. Finally, in exploring the phenomenon of the digitalization of value networks I have made a significant contribution to knowledge in the design of an innovative mixed method; specifically in the area of field research - a qualitative data collection method designed for considering, observing, and interacting with individuals in their natural environments. Over time, I have established that digital cinema was capable of delivering novel supply and demand solutions - starting with a few unrelated scraps of data, through the establishment of personal networks with communities of practice (in the UK, US & Norway) to building rich, and complex quantitative data sets capable of measuring the entire diffusion and adoption phase of the digital cinema rollout, right across Europe.

Abstract:
The emergence of digitalization and globalization has given birth to firms who cater to a global customer base and source resources from around the world at the click of a button. Nevertheless, as companies continue to innovate how they communicate, govern and internationalize, much of the research is built on a world before the emergence of the digitalized and globalized society we live in today. Finding a lucrative market is a crucial source of competitive advantage but if modern opportunities and challenges are disregarded, it could lead to grave economic downfalls. This paper investigates what factors modern technology firms take into account when evaluating potential location choice. This question further investigates how the nature of technology companies influence location choice. A qualitative study was conducted, five semi-structured interviews with five companies were conducted with each interview lasting on average 47 minutes.Three general findings were deducted from these interviews. Firstly, internal factors to the firm are still very much relevant to tech companies. Determinants such as top managements' experiential learning and networks, industry characteristics and the nature of the customer relationship. The second finding was that country-specific determinants were of less importance. There was no evidence showing that determinants such as natural resources were a factor. It was also shown that psychic and geographic distances were of less importance while human capital are of higher importance. Lastly factors which have lowered the barriers to enter a foreign location were found. These include the emergence of the gig economy and better communication technologies allowing for companies to govern distant offices from a centralized headquarter. These findings have been compiled by the authors into a new model of location choice factors for technology companies

Abstract:
Considering that technology is developing at a rapid pace, the venture capital landscape changes due to R&amp;D and product maturity life cycles shortening dramatically compared to 50 years ago, thus impacting the portfolio of a VC and its future investment opportunities. However, this relationship between digitalization and venture capital remains underexamined in literature. The research problem is thus to explore how venture capital and the industries it backs have been shaped by digitalization and thus deep tech within the context of Europe. The literature review as a method is examining mechanisms propelled by the digitalization behind the top five VC-backed industries between 2015- 2019 in Europe. In this research, deep tech is a major factor as to why industries have been the most heavily invested in due to their predicted potential exploiting the use of digital technologies.

Abstract:
The changes in consumer patterns, digitalization, and the augmented diplomatic relation between Sweden and India has opened new opportunities for Swedish small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to enter the Indian market, which is characterized as an emerging market. Although SMEs often have scarce resources, they are succeeding in entering foreign markets and competing with Multinational corporations (MNCs). The phenomenon called Born Globals contradicts with the conventional internationalization theories. It sheds light on new internationalization paths, where the firm often is an SME and offers digitized products or services. Business networks and brand strategies are set to be important factors when entering the international markets, yet there are still research gaps in how Swedish SMEs enter the Indian market. The purpose of this study is to investigate the motives of Swedish SMEs when establishing in the Indian market. A qualitative methodology was used, by collecting data through semi-structured interviews from multiple case studies: (1) advisory organisations and (2) companies. The findings show that India is perceived as a continent rather than a country since there are differences in state growth rates and purchasing power. Other findings show that international business networks and market knowledge are crucial for entering a new market.

Abstract:
This chapter aims to shed light on the trends of sectoral trade globalization. This component of trade globalization is often neglected. An accurate evaluation of sectoral trade requires the analysis of the interdependencies of countries and the consideration of distance as a central dimension of trade globalization. As such, sectoral trade globalization is one aspect of a more complex and multi-dimensional phenomenon. Data show that sectoral trade globalization has increased significantly over the last 50 years irrespective of the characteristics of individual sectors. One relevant insight is that the level of trade globalization is on average still different for high-tech sectors compared to low-tech and medium-low-tech sectors even though the former could increase their bilateral trade relationships over time. Even though protectionist tendencies as well as the COVID-19 pandemic have led to a vivid discussion about the return to more local or regional production schemes, digitalization processes could still have the potential to further integrate countries' trade networks.

Abstract:
This chapter adds to the understanding of trade globalization by accounting for the complexity and multi-dimensionality of the phenomenon at hand. This approach captures different aspects of the phenomenon, such as the interconnectedness of countries, geographical distance, and sectoral trade relationships over a period of 50 years. Thereby, both the commonalities and differences in the long-term trends for the individual dimensions of trade globalization are highlighted. Results indicate that regarding the number of positive bilateral trade flows, globalization was almost completed by 2016. Also, distance diminished significantly in importance for trade relationships. Yet, data shows that the degree of globalization was significantly different for high-tech sectors compared to low-tech sectors even though the latter could catch up over time. During recent years, protectionism tendencies have led to the discussion about a new age of slowbalization to be on the way while digitalization processes can integrate countries even further into global production and trade networks.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses how marketing is changing in response to external influences. Nothing has been more transforming to the function of marketing than the development of the internet, digitalization, and, more recently, artificial intelligence. The growth of social media has provided new opportunities for communicating and establishing relationships with customers and consumers, which are considerably more flexible than traditional media. The internet and other technological developments have also provided the perfect conditions for driving the rapid growth of tech start-up companies, media-based businesses, and e-commerce. The chapter then examines societal marketing, which has become important to organizations in response to changing perceptions of the market concerning ethics, corporate social responsibility, and sustainable development.

Abstract:
The study examines the appearance of Industry 4.0 and digitalization in the food industry that is not typically considered high-tech. Our aim was to point out that Industry 4.0 is also present in the food industry and offers many opportunities in two areas that are a particular focus of this industry: increasing traceability and food safety. During the research, we asked seven companies about their digital development and Industry 4.0 experience. We have explored the factors that drive companies to adopt digital solutions and the technologies that have been applied. Our results show that companies, not consciously moving towards Industry 4.0 but taking advantage of the opportunities offered by digitalization, are making improvements, often with a lack of workforce, eager to reach higher efficiency and thus competitiveness, as well as to serve the company's growth strategy.

Abstract:
Purpose – to reveal prerequisites of technology-enabled banking development in Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine; to identify if digitalization was a beneficial factor in households deposits-raising during the COVID-19. Research methodology is twofold: analysis of digitalization index based on World Bank data as a premise of tech-nology-enabled banks development; beta-coefficient analysis and descriptive statistics – for digitalization influence assessment. Findings – digitalization index analysis showed that Lithuania has a more generous benefit in terms of digitalization. Poland and Ukraine follow with a slight gap. Traditional banks of analyzed countries are acting towards digitalization but at different paces. There are both digital and neobanks in Lithuania and Poland, while in Ukraine only digital banks. Analysis of Ukrainian banks deposits highlighted the fact that digital banks were in some cases more preferable for households, especially during a pandemic. Research limitations – lack of data: common digitalization indexes could not be calculated for Ukraine; differences in countries’ banking data: content and structuring criteria. Practical implications – the results could be important for policy recommendations to tackle the blind spots of banking digitalization. Originality/Value – suggested digitalization index could be utilized as a universal. Due to DESI limitations, common for EU countries, we were to create our own index and compare results with calculated by European Commission DESI values. While DESI is calculated using some specific survey data, the proposed index is using standardized data of World Bank; the results of digital and traditional banks deposits comparison could be useful for further study.

Abstract:
The problem of the impossibility to ensure the technological development of industrial enterprises in the new economic conditions of digitalization based on traditional approaches developed for the conditions, in which modern high-tech enterprises no longer operate, determined the core scientific idea of the study. It forms a conceptual model for the intelligent infrastructure of technological development at industrial enterprises based on the principles of infrastructure-reproduction approach. Domestic and foreign management theory presented with a variety of concepts, including those focused on modern aspects of management, due to structural changes in the economy based on digital technologies, do not give a sufficiently clear idea of the management features of the intelligent infrastructure formation for technological development at industrial enterprises in the new economic conditions. This is an urgent scientific problem to be solved. The proposed concept is based on methods of system analysis and scientific modelling, economic-statistical methods (grouping, typing, constructing time series, determining ratings, etc.), to analyze and compile statistical information, identify trends and characteristics of technological development at industrial enterprises, analytical method when performing analytical calculations, graphical method for the visualization of the results. From the infrastructure-reproduction approach the article reveals the components of the conceptual model for intelligent infrastructure of technological development at industrial enterprises, and presents the essential links between them, due to the task of achieving the target results in the field of technological development in the digital economy. The presented model can influence the management orientation of a modern industrial enterprise and the choice of an acceptable organizational solution in the field of staff intellectual resources management for its technological development. These results will allow developing research, designing and implementing organizational and management systems and mechanisms to ensure the technologization based on effective intellectual and resource support in the industrial sector in the digital economy.

Abstract:
From the perspective of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary synthesis, there was studied the conceptual and methodological certainty of the existing approaches to understanding digital transformation. The author proceeds from the fact that digital transformation is not only the new technology (artificial intelligence, blockchain, data analysis, Internet of things etc.), but also a deep transformation of the basics of life, the structure of organizations and enterprises, society as a whole. In other words, it is a fundamental transformation of traditional models of life organization, construction, and development of a new reality, which is not always tolerant to humans. Thus, digital transformation is considered as essential characteristic of the modern era, the formation of which was influenced by a number of factors of social dynamics. The key factors are informatization and total digitalization. These processes caused formation of new sociality, which was different from the previous types of civilizational development with a sharp increase of the role of temporal and artificial component in the structure of social-biological evolution. In conditions of intensive social dynamics, choice remains an essential characteristic of new sociality. At the same time, the subjective side of social choice is changing: it is not an atomic personality, group, institution, but a high tech social practice taken from the point of view of the system of interaction of agents that realize the social-economic expediency in line with intensive innovation transformation. There is substantiated the increasing importance of modern social-humanitarian knowledge as conceptual-categorical and methodological base of reflection and prediction of the processes of formation of new sociality. In the structure of scientific-methodological reflection, there is actualized the transdisciplinary status of philosophical knowledge and its potential in connection with new instrumental-technical capabilities of cognitive practice.

Abstract:
The challenges in the age of digitalization demand that universities qualify their computer science and engineering graduates well with respect to IT Security (information technology security). In engineering education such lectures are often offered as an elective subject, only. We propose to teach security aspects with respect to robustness and correctness already in the introductory programming course and therefore to cover at least parts of the overall field of IT Security as a compulsory subject for all students. The paper describes the integration of some rules and recommendations from the SEI Cert C Coding Standard into our introductory C programming course and discusses our experience with the course over the last two years with respect to its contents, realization, evaluation and examination.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic led to a strong digitalization push at university level teaching. The latter had to be converted to distance modes quickly. This paper discusses the consequences of these developments for the field of social science research education, a discipline where the personal interaction between lecturers and students traditionally plays a major role in the transfer of knowledge and competences. Accordingly, we ask whether lecturers accepted distance learning as part of their work and if they will implement the associated digital teaching modalities into their regular teaching repertoire in the future. Furthermore, indicators shaping the acceptance of future distance teaching are explored. The article is based on a continuous online survey of lecturers (n = 169) who teach social science methods and methodology at Austrian public universities. The results of this study show that more than 40 % of the sample with or after the experience of distance teaching will retain some aspects of it in their teaching due to the CODIV-19 pandemic. In particular, the evaluation of the preparation effort, the interaction with students and the attitude toward new didactic methods play a central role in the acceptance of distance teaching.

Abstract:
University lecturers worldwide had to adopt to online teaching at very short notice due to restrictions related to COVID-19. This is a particular challenge for social sciences research methods education, which often requires face-to-face interactions. Data from an online survey of lecturers (n = 105; March 2020) who teach social science methods and methodology at Austrian public universities was used to discuss their adaption behavior and the corresponding determinates. Consequently, a measure for the rate of adaption of teaching materials and methods per lecturer was constructed and a linear regression model employed to discuss the determinants of this adaption. The results show the following: Understanding online teaching as a permanent solution for the future, the extent of an individual’s teaching load and a tenured employment were identified as significant influences fostering the adaption of teaching methods and materials to the online context. The predictors discovered differ from previous studies, and it has to be assumed that the adaption behavior in the wake of the pandemic had a profound impact on the ongoing digitalization of university education.
