Abstract:
Taking as a point of departure the 1970s concept of the ‘dispositif’, this article seeks to redefine it in the context of experimental cinematic practices which reject the usual tools of filmmaking, or, more precisely, replace them by ‘retrograde’ technical means (such as handmade techniques, camera-less films, etc.). Instead of adhering to the classical notion of dispositif, which privileges the screening situation, the author rather suggest that we envisage a dispositif of production, involving the spatial relationship between the body of the artist, the ‘pro-filmic’ event and his/her material at the very moment of production, and that informs the practices of cinematic retrograde technicity.

Identity construction and privacy are closely connected in both everyday routines as well as in online environments such as social network sites. The paper argues that an overall approach of action theory combined with systemic perspective of dispositif / apparatus can be adapted to get theoretical and empirical insights into identity work and related privacy concepts. Based on situational approaches towards social action, the negotiation processes of self presentation can be described. With regard to online communication and self presentation the technical aspect – understood as a dispositif setting – becomes more crucial then in face to face situations. To understand online privacy an approach of identity construction in every day lifeworld is outlined, embedding online action and attitude.

Abstract:
Based on expert interviews, this study aims to explore different components of cultural and administrative apparatuses, showing the disciplinary methods of microfinance organisations that work on submissive borrowers. Six policy officials of two microfinance institutions (MFIs) Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee and Bangladesh Rural Development Board – and two experts from different institutions were interviewed for this purpose. Following established way of analysing expert interviews, the study concentrates on the experts’ own wording and interfaces them with theoretical and conceptual positions. Among various sets of dispositif, an ensemble of elements of an apparatus, the culture of loyalty to saviours, the discourse of empowerment, regulatory decisions and policies of MFIs, a culture of repayment habits, usage of technical measures and accessing asymmetric information of borrowers are important in the power exerting process of the microfinance industry in Bangladesh.

This article is a part of contemporary researches in didactics of writing, especially those who are based on the question of reader-writer subject. The study aims to overcome, theoretically and methodologically speaking, students’ motivation difficulties in French class as a foreign language, by taking into didactic account the part of imagination in writing, beside its strictly linguistic or technical dimensions. This study investigates the corpus of students’ writing productions, also it will examine the effects of a rewriting phase on investment strategies of subjects in their writings. The study shows that we have integrated the plan of imagination and creativity into the writings prepared by the learners, but also we have recorded an improvement of nearly 40% in terms of formal and structural aspect of the French language. Abstract:
The “cinematographic model of thought” was developed by Bergson in Creative Evolution (1907) after his 1902-1903 lectures at the Collège de France. His appropriation of this device of modernity certainly didn't go unnoticed. Throughout the twentieth century, Bergsonian discourse produced frequently opposing positions on the cinema, making it necessary for the film historian to question the status of Bergson’s cinematographic dispositive. This dispositive, which strictly belongs to philosophical discourse, refers to equipment and procedures whose mechanism is quite recognizable and isn’t solely confined to the device invented by Lumière. Scholars thus need to confront the technical dimension of this dispositive if they are to examine its very singular character. What makes Bergson’s dispositive technical? How does the shift occur from the technical reference to its appropriation by discourse in demonstrative strategies that transform its value? Starting from this case study, this article seeks to address the following question as directly as possible : what does technique become once it enters (philosophical) discourse? Borrowing from the history of techniques outside the specialized literature on cinema, the article also attempts to redefine the web of relations between discourse and technical fact. Finally, it raises the issue of what may be called a user discourse with respect to specialized discourse, emphasizing the predisposition of any discourse for an osmosis of concepts which the epistemology of viewing dispositives can account for.

Mathiesen, Aleksandra. "The Practical-Technical Reason in the Aristotelian Concept of the Faculties of the Soul." Peitho. Examina Antiqua 8, no. 1 (2017): 359–70. http://dx.doi.org/10.14746/pea.2017.1.22.

Abstract:
When analyzing the structure of the soul, Aristotle distinguished three faculties: the theoretical, the practical and the technical one. The latter two are the focus of this paper. The division could be perceived as an abstract description of diverse functions and purposes of the faculties, but it does not imply factual dissociation between them if we take under consideration their functioning. On the contrary, Aristotle suggested that it would be impossible to detach the practical reasoning from the operational one, for the former stipulated the goal, whereas the latter provided the means for its fulfillment. The genuine intellectual disposition, which supplements the practical reason with the proper means was referred to as ‘cleverness’ (δεινότης). Cleverness has usually been associated with the technical faculty but it also seems to be, first and foremost, the disposition to inventiveness in a broader sense. Although Aristotle did not formulate this directly, it is plausible to view the practical and technical faculty as depending on each other, as far as their products and works are useful to pursue the practical goals and the practical reasoning determines the extent of the possibilities and limitations of their utility in the field of politics. The disposition to cleverness made the cooperation of those faculties possible.

Abstract:
Since September 2014, the Belgian French-speaking higher education institutions must define learning outcomes for each of their programs. This thesis studies the processes which led to this obligation. The learning outcomes are understood as an educational concept with different uses. The objectives of these instruments are to enhance the transparency, the readability of the qualifications in order to support the mobility of the students and the workers.First, this research describes the expansion of the concept of competence in education. Secondly, it analyses the transposition of the European instruments in the French-speaking of Belgium. Thirdly, it presents a history of pedagogy in the three main universities. The data are discourses (educational texts, laws, institutional documents, international texts, interviews). Some of these discourses are analyzed with the TXM textometry software. Three theoretical frameworks are mobilized: actor-network theory and the concept of socio-technical networks (Callon & Latour), the Economies of worth and the idea of worlds of justification (Boltanski & Thevenot), and the concept European higher education apparatus (Croché, Charlier)

Abstract:
The goal of the thesis is to bring out, in several architects, the existence of a different kind of relationship with the past, which authorizes a new kind of reading of history. Benjamin wrote: “some people transmit things by making them intangible and conserving them; other people transmit situations by making them handy and liquidating them. Last are those that are called destructives. In this way, several modern works, austere in appearance, could they not result from a long transformation process punctuated by successive disappearances ? My hypothesis is that some architects, such as Le Corbusier, choose to insert themselves in that paradox, producing project techniques which do not come under dialectics between continuity and interruption, nor under reference work: I will call transposition the work that consists in graft on the genesis of an architectural device to accelerate it by the exhaustive actualization of his modes of existence. If Jeanneret detaches from the culture of his time onwards since the Orient Trip it is because he does not consider the architectural device as an inert entity which can be extrapolated. He recognizes in it a technical object capable of producing effects as a perception machine. His attitude consists therefore in visiting tradition, not to extract references, but as knowledge about the power that some objects have to produce effects. I will explore how he invents project techniques which are real ways of doing, consisting on intervening on, established, architectural types to produce concrete, technical objects

Abstract:
This research is interested in the effects led by the digital devices plans of social sharing on the pratices of collaboration, communication and mediation of students in context of distance learning. In order to achieve that, an update of theories on dispositif is suggested (BAUDRY, FOUCAULT, DELEUZE), mainly based on the systemic phenomenology of Vilém Flusser, to develop thinking on a non-immersive condition of image. This hypothesis is taken forward with the problematization of neoplatonic conceptions regarding virtual environments (HEIM, FRIEDBERG, GRAU) which establish sense regimes based on the abduction of the individual in the parallel worlds of immersive environments. The main issues raised are related to the validity of these theories towards the dispositifs created in a context of Augmented Reality, ubiquitous computing (WEISER), cybrid condition of space (ANDERS) and networks (BEIGUELMAN); and, above all, of interfaces based on physical computing and algorithms of computer vision. Interpreted as a projection of conceptual abstraction towards concreteness of experience, image stops being understood for dualities between what's "real" and "virtual" or "physical" and "informational", to present itself as a phenomenon that is projected from the dispositif to establish new relations with phenomenons of other natures which constitute reality. Considering this project's condition, image starts to give itself to experience through processes of objectification and otherization, installing new aesthetic experiences of image. Being integrated to the coded world (FLUSSER), image becomes an object of a specific genesis among many others which surround us. However, the processes of otherization approximate the condition of image and of the individual to that one assigned to the body in performance aesthetics (COHEN, LEHMANN, FISCHER-LICHTE), demanding from both a performative posture based on the significant value of presence (GUMBRECHT, ZUMTHOR) and gesture (FLUSSER). Those transformations in the intermediation processes between piece and individual launch new aesthetic vectors to the understanding of media art. This scenery is outlined in this research considering the analysis of audiovisual pieces produced in the last two decades, which present themselves as technical dispositifs that are open to someone's interaction. The immersive environments in Virtual Reality, CAVEʼs and digital panoramas are analyzed against cybernetic dispositifs, pieces that use techniques of augmented reality and others that put image and public in performative conditions. The analysis goes through theories of media art (BELLOUR, DUBOIS, MACHADO) and of new media (MURAY, MANOVICH, COUCHOT, WEIBEL, HANSEN) identifying displacements in the condition of image and of subjectivity's figures, this way demanding other postures and sensibilities, both from creators and from those who place themselves before the image

Abstract:
In a context where urban problems forms of public action and systems of actors drastically change the ways to build the city these last decades, we must understand the logics of action that influence the dynamics of spatial and territorial changes. The analysis model is developed from the point of view of the urban sociology and is based on three important intercative processes. A strategic framing process whose reference system gives the standart in terms of a base of shared representations. A complicated organizational process (networking), involving ressources and persons whose actions and interventions need to be coordonated and controlled within a specifical technical, legal and organisatinal system (urban contracting owner). A process, of a precise, material and spatial translation aiming the concrete realization, on privileged territories of operations which on the basis of the initial intentions and within the framework of a space of specific activities, combine economic, political and symbolic objectives. The concept of urban project is the expression of the chaining of these three processes. Starting from a jointly defined issue on the scale of the city of agglomeration, it generates during a given time period a collective activity, mobilizes and recruits in each stage of all levels of responsabilities a plurality of actors around a serie of urban and architectural operations. The agglomeration of Bordeaux and its transformation over the period 1995-2006 is used as reference base

Abstract:
What exactly do we experience when we “watch a movie” ? This phrase may seem ill-chosen since, in this “spectatorial experience” the viewer not only watches but he also listens. However it announces straightaway a form of equivocity between what we watch and what we connect with, while watching a movie. It appears as a unique experience of mimesis whose analysis is the aim of this study. The chosen method consisted in carrying out our reflection starting from the attentive study of a corpus of six films: Waltz with Bachir, by Ari Folman, Hidden, by Michael Haneke, the diptych Mulholland drive/Lost highway, by David Lynch, the Mystery Picasso, by Henri-Georges Clouzot, and Even if she had been a criminal…, by Jean-Gabriel Périot. This method enabled us to study the type of operations which the watching of a film requires from the spectator, and led us to ask ourselves which is the nature of the objects perceived by the means of the cinematographic device. We’ve highlighted the equivocity of what the spectator perceives, by distinguishing three aspects of the filmic image : profigurant, figurative, figural. This distinction underlines the ambiguity of the filmic image in what it actually shows : a representation of the world, a mixing of images and sounds, a set of events resulting from the real world. This, in a second time, led us to study to what extent the director’s choices engages productive operations of direction and regulations for the spectator. On which conditions can we consider it as writing? And what is thus « realized » by these operations? At last, we have tried to analyse the singular role that the cinema offers to the spectator : this particular experience involves perceptive, cognitive and emotional activities, immersions in heterogeneous temporalities, and a mode of belief in which the viewer is aware of what is at stake

Abstract:
This thesis will allow us to take a new look at the debate on furthering the social integration of immigrants thanks to a socio-technical use of the web. Present-day society is being profoundly altered by the Technologies of Information (TIC) that are omnipresent and increasingly invasive in almost every aspect of the social field. These accelerating mutations are nonetheless liberating a powerful potential of creativity and development for a portion of the population hitherto excluded from mainline society, by the handicap of language in the case of an immigrant population, and by the lack of access to the new technology (TIC). The double exclusion facing these immigrant populations accounts for a large part of their problems with integration. Against this general background, our thesis develops the following hypothesis: mastering the new technologies of information and communication (the TIC) can become a formidable instrument for overcoming handicaps of background, language, education when appropriated within educational facilities outside the official school systems. Overcoming the digital divide can provide a shortcut to full participation in the culture and usages of the society at large. How can this be achieved? Under what conditions? We shall treat these questions via a five-pronged approach: appropriation of TIC, social integration, socio-technical devices, social mediation and digital pedagogy. Our conclusions will be based on the study of a concrete case in a specific environment. We have demonstrated how the people of Belleville, who are largely illiterate, have nonetheless been able to acquire minimal skills in the use of TIC. Tests specifically elaborated by us for this type of public allowed us to evaluate their competency in areas such as word-processing, handling the computer, and surfing on the web. Our study is conditioned by the need, both to examine the social and cognitive aspects of adult apprenticeship where the population concerned is far-removed from normal access to TIC, and to propose new approaches adapted to EPN technical devices as well as to the types of TIC usage this population might need

Abstract:
No English summary available

Abstract:
At our present time, the information represents a strategic value and a significant proportion of users do not have the financial and human resources to assume this additional charge, and thus to have an edge on competitors. The approach of this thesis dissertation is mainly motivated bu the following observation: many professionals and researchers have found that business intelligence is neglected in SMES. The goal of our research experience was to integrate this economic intelligence strategy within SMES of "Marseille Innovation", a leading business development center in the mediterranean region, and with some tunisians partners. This monitoring device consists of a set of free tools on the Internet, such like, (intelligent agent, intelligence software, metaserach,. . . ) and so forth. Our methodology is based upon an analysis of survey concerning a sample of SMES located in the business centers of Marseille Innovation (France) and ElGhazela (INSAT, Tunisia). Furthermore, a study of the feedback is performed. And all that allowed us to observe the real world needs and to interpret them based on different theorical approaches. Last but not least, our research project shows clearly that the scheme of business intelligence that we have adopted may be convenient to many companies that cannot afford the costs of the information in a very competitive environment where knowledge is very essential

This chapter outlines various tactics that artists, filmmakers, curators, architects, city planners, and arts administrators can employ to develop works, sites, and audiences that support a more participatory and representative public culture through massive media. These include: the application of analytical tools from cinema studies, namely superimposition, montage, and apparatus/dispositif, high-level coordination and provision of technical support from curatorial groups that see themselves as public space activists and community facilitators, and sensitivity towards context, both digital and virtual, of large-scale public data visualisations centred upon led façades. More study and practice is needed as the technologies and contexts of massive media shift and merge with the practices of digital placemaking and smart cities.

This paper explores the nature of trust and satisfaction existing between service providers (large organizations) and a network of 47 distributors (small organizations) within the Kuwaiti telecommunications sector. Data was collected using a questionnaire based survey involving a convenience sample of 209 respondents representing 47 distributor outlets. The results show that the Kuwaiti telecommunications sector asymmetric relationship network was largely driven by cognitive input of trust, that is, technical competency was favored over affective input. Furthermore, there was a significant relationship between cognitive input and Long-term Satisfaction Disposition (LSD) and control input (i.e. use of power) and LSD. This indicates that trust, although favored, was not a condition for establishing long-term satisfaction within asymmetric business relationships. Finally, the influence of wasta (i.e. favoritism) and control input on trust are found to be insignificant.

Abstract:
Although Gadamer's study of Greek paideia has been virtually ignored in the scholarly literature, I argue that it is central to his philosophy of education. Gadamer singles out three kinds of paideia: traditional, sophistic and philosophic. Traditional paideia, grounded in an unaware habit or disposition of the soul, was vulnerable when sophistic paideia brought reasoned argument against it. This 'new' paideia originally supported traditional notions of the just and the good with its conscious art of argumentation and pragmatic enhancement of success. But this paideia also undermined conventional morality by arguing that it is only convention, thereby corrupting the youth of Athens by appealing to the untrammeled desire for power. Philosophical paideia takes its bearings from the sophistic as its deepest opponent and counterimage. It turns out, however, that the two are virtually indistinguishable. Both bring thinking to consciousness; both are rhetorical arts; both create confusion; and both are subject to the 'weakness of the logoi.' In the end, the difference between them rests not on distinctions of reason, but the intent of the reasoner. This conflict of paideias is relevant to the situation of education today. Problems of narrow technical perspective and the broadest ideological manipulation are directly traceable to sophistic paideia. Thus, Gadamer points to hermeneutical praxis as 'the heart of all education that wants to teach how to philosophize.'

Abstract:
Abstract The idea of a tendon vibration control system for a beam-like flexible space structure has been proposed. To verify the feasibility of the concept, an experimental tendon control system has been constructed for the vibration control of a flexible beam simulating Large Space Structures (LSS). This paper discusses modeling, identification, actuator disposition, and controller design for the experimental system. First, a mathematical model of the whole system of the beam and tendon actuator is developed through a finite element method (FEM). Second, to obtain an accurate mathematical model for designing a controller, unknown characteristic parameters are estimated by using an output error method. The validity of the proposed identification scheme is demonstrated by good agreement between the transfer functions of the experimental system and an identified model. Then, disposition of actuators is discussed by using the modal cost analysis. Finally, controllers are designed for SISO and MIMO systems. The feasibility of the proposed controller is verified through numerical simulation and hardware experiments.

Abstract:
The United States Department of Energy (US DOE) is conducting research and development (R&D) activities within the Used Fuel Disposition Campaign (UFDC) to support storage, transportation, and disposal of used nuclear fuel (UNF) and wastes generated by existing and future nuclear fuel cycles. R&D activities are ongoing at nine national laboratories, and are divided into two major topical areas: (1) storage and transportation research, and (2) disposal research. Storage R&D focuses on closing technical gaps related to extended storage of UNF. For example, uncertainties remain regarding high-burnup nuclear fuel cladding performance following possible hydride reorientation and creep deformation, and also regarding long-term canister integrity. Transportation R&D focuses on ensuring transportability of UNF following extended storage, addressing data gaps regarding nuclear fuel integrity, retrievability, and demonstration of subcriticality. Disposal R&D focuses on identifying multiple viable geologic disposal options and addressing technical challenges for generic disposal concepts in various host media (e.g., mined repositories in salt, clay/shale, and granitic rocks, and deep borehole disposal in crystalline rock). R&D will transition to site-specific challenges as national policy advances. R&D goals at this stage are to increase confidence in the robustness of generic disposal concepts, to reduce generic sources of uncertainty that may impact the viability of disposal concepts, and to develop science and engineering tools that will support the selection, characterization, and ultimately licensing of a repository. The US DOE has also initiated activities that can be conducted within the constraints of the Nuclear Waste Policy Act to facilitate the development of an interim storage facility and supporting transportation infrastructure.

Abstract:
Nuclear waste management is a complex and contentious issue in all parts of the world, involving social, political, technical, and economic interests, and generating a reaction of public suspicion and mistrust in most cases. Not surprisingly, the end goal for all parties involved in the nuclear waste management debate is identical: the safe disposition of the waste in compliance with governing regulations. The governing regulations, in turn, are intended primarily to protect public health and the environment, not just in the present, but well into the future, given the long-lived nature of many radionuclides in the waste. However, each party in the nuclear waste management debate approaches and defines the end goal differently. The balancing of interests and ideas pursued by the government, regulators, scientific community, local watchdog groups, and the general public regarding the end goal affect the way that policies are determined and by whom. The strength of the various arguments and the environment in which they are asserted also plays a role in policy development. The resolution of a nuclear waste management issue in any given case can never be described unequivocally as the “best,” “safest,” or “optimal” solution simply because the various parties and entities involved will very rarely look at the end point from the same perspective (technical, emotional, or political). However, nuclear waste management programs can be designed and developed so that the disparity of expectations and emotions is minimized by means of open communications and a sound technical basis for all decisions. This paper discusses examples of these concepts in the context of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) and Yucca Mountain Programs. These programs, which address the permanent disposition of transuranic (TRU) waste and high-level radioactive waste (HLW), respectively, provide the opportunity to view policy decisions and associated impacts both within the framework of resulting operational realities in the case of the WIPP Program and within the process of defining a strategy for the progress of the Yucca Mountain Program.

Abstract:
Abstract INTERPRET is an intelligent product catalogue which allows a customer to select online exactly his component being supported by the knowledge provided by the supplier. Additionally, the customer can insert both the actual geometry into his own design as well as dispositive data file into his administrative data processing system. Main focus of INTERPRET is the electronic handling of different business processes on heterogeneous computer systems (the so-called telecommerce). The Internet serves here as a communication platform to the design of the desired worldwide virtual production system (Kroll, 1994). The availability of this low-priced solution for each enterprise facilitates the fast and flexible design of virtual production communities (Davodow, Malone, 1993).

Abstract:
Abstract Indian Higher Education system has got 70 million students enrolled in different technical and professional courses, which is highest in world. Being the fastest growing economy, India has got global attention also. Despite such strong foundation, the nation lacks a skilled workforce. The expectations of the industry don’t match with what they receive as a workforce. There has been a continuous effort in instilling technical, communication, spiritual, leadership skills along with building a high quotient of ethics and professionalism in the students. The problem lies somewhere else, which needs quick attention. The present study attempts to analyze the effect of independent variables assessment of self competence, open to change, networking, professional growth, emotional growth, spiritual growth, realistic expectations, interpersonal skills, conceptual skills, technical skills, leadership skills, attitude towards planet, ethical disposition, flexibility to work and orientation towards money on the dependent variable Employment readiness through Regression analysis. The findings suggest that students need to assess their self competence, develop an achievement orientation attitude and work on technical skills in order to become Employment ready. There are very few studies addressing this issue in Indian context and researchers could find no published empirical work analyzing the effect of all these variables on Employment readiness. This would serve as a strong base for researchers in similar field. This study is beneficial for academicians, policy-makers and academic regulatory bodies. Keywords: Employment readiness, Indian higher education, Generation y employment readiness, Employability of gen y.
