Full textThis work analyses the teaching of architectural drawing at Brazilian schools of architecture, coming to a general picture which is not a good one, for the students do not use correctly the graphic representation of the architectural technical drawing, when creating or producing the object of architecture. Such lack of knowledge for using this basic tool, which is so necessary to the architects, endangers their professional performance. The works presents a theoretical foundation on architectural drawing; a questionary apllied to the teachers of architectural drawing and CAD; a list and analysis of manuals in use by teacher and stundents; and, eventually, interviews with architects and/or teachers. The results instigate us to reconsider our role and to review our positions, in order to contribute to the improvement of the quality of the architecture and urbanism teaching and, as a consequence, to a better professional performance of the architects.

Full textThe present work analyses how architecture students and former graduates have appropriated technical drawing techniques in order to carry out architectural projects. Inexpressive and poorly communicative drawings are shown as a result of deficiencies in teaching some disciplines, such as basic projective geometry, conventions and particularities of technical and architectonical drawing. This study reveals a lack of technical-constructive knowledge in civil construction. It also proves that poor mastery of this type of knowledge, so fundamental for the exercise of the architect\'s profession, compromises proper performance. We propose reflection and revision of existing paradigms, as well as some new didactic approaches to enhance the quality of the drawing teaching process in architecture and urbanism programs and, in consequence, offer better professional training to architects.

Full textSCALES, ALICE YOUNG. The Effect of Learning Style, Major, and Gender on Learning Computer-aided Drawing in an Introductory Engineering/Technical Graphics Course. (Under the direction of Dewey A. Adams and Barbara M. Kirby)This correlational descriptive study examined factors that might affect students? achievement in learning computer-aided drawing and engineering/technical graphics concepts in introductory classes at North Carolina State University. The study involved 38 subjects enrolled in introductory classes that combined the teaching of computer-aided drawing and technical graphics. The three dependent variables used in the study were CAD project grade, CAD posttest score, and final course grade. The seven independent variables examined were gender, learning style, major, student classification, final exam grade, final exam with the posttest score removed, and pretest score. Subjects' learning styles were established by the Group Embedded Figures Test, which measures field-dependence and field-independence. Kendall?s Tau B correlations and multiple linear regression models were used in the analysis of the data. The alpha used for statistical significance was .05.Analysis of the data revealed that the research subjects were primarily field dependent, and exactly half of them had prior drafting experience. Subjects in the study represented 19 different majors. Eighteen students were from engineering programs and 20 from non-engineering programs. Females in the sample reported a lower level of computer experience and less prior drafting experience than males. For the total sample, statistically significant correlations were found between the project grade and the final grade with the project score removed, learning style and the final exam grade with the project score removed, computer experience and gender, and the final exam grade and gender. Correlations were found between gender and the final exam grade with the posttest score removed and between learning style and the final exam with the posttest score included. For females, a statistically significant relationship was found between prior drafting experience and the project grade; this was the strongest correlation found in the study. For males, statistically significant relationships were found between learning style and final exam grade, learning style and the final exam grade with the posttest removed, the project grade and the final grade with the project score removed, the project grade and the pretest score, and the pretest and posttest score.Three multiple linear regression models were created as part of the study, two as predictors of computer-aided drawing achievement and one as a predictor of achievement in learning the course content. Model 1 used the final project grade as its dependent variable to measure CAD achievement. The independent variables used in this model were gender, the pretest score, and major. The model?s R square was 0.31 (p = 0.005). Model 2, which used the posttest score as its dependent variable, was the second measure of CAD achievement. The independent variables used in this model were the pretest score, the Group Embedded Figures Test score, and the final exam grade with the posttest score removed. Its R square was 0.19 (p = 0.056). Model 3 used the final course grade as its dependent variable to measure achievement in learning the course content. The independent variables included in this model were gender, the Group Embedded Figures Test scores, and student classification. The R square for this model was 0.21 (p = 0.043).

Full textIn the present research I propose theoretical-practical reflection, confronting some aspects of the philosophy of technique, which discuss the relationship between man and his technology in different periods of history, in dialogue with central ideas of engineering and science fiction visionaries such as Jules Verne, George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, Nikola Tesla, Gerald Bull, Yona Friedman among others. In this context, I present the series of works entitled Engenharia Perversa as a possibility of crossing between technical drawing and multiple, establishing relations with works of other artists that use technical language, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Leon Ferrari, Regina Silveira and Marcel Duchamp. As a basis for the dialectical construction established in this thesis, I point out cases where science fiction precedes the progress that will be achieved by engineering and architecture. In the opposite sense, this thesis tries to investigate occurrences in which unconstructed engineering projects, when they become only unproven ideas, point to the technical drawing as a source of fictional productions. From these premises, this research problematizes the present artistic production in relation to the fictional field, investigating possibilities of simulacra established by the use of obsolete technologies for the production of images.

Full textThis dissertation deals with the theme of technical drawing of clothing. The aim of this study was to propose guidelines for graphical representation technique of finishing, details, lines and quotas on clothing products of circular knitting segment to achieve its normalization. The research was classified as applied, exploratory and qualitative. Data collection occurred through semi-structured interviews and documentary collection both conducted face-to-face form and by electronic means (e-mail). Participants consisted of seven professors of technical drawing disciplines who work in institutions of higher education that have fashion courses in the Bachelor level. In addition to the professors, eight product development professionals of knitting clothing companies who work with circular mesh also participated. With this, it was possible to diagnose how is the representation of technical drawings of clothing in these two environments, the academic and the industrial, located in different regions of Brazil. The interview responses were presented through comparative tables including the collected data. As a result, guidelines are presented for the construction of the drawing and representation of colors, lines, dimensions/measurements. Another product of this work is a catalogue of the main finishing and details used in circular knit with descriptions, images and representations of the referred techniques.

Full textThe present dissertation discusses the building-work drawing, addressed as a means of approaching the production process of design and the building-works, as well as the relations established between them. The building-work drawing is proposed as the research object, especially because it represents the mediation between moments and instances of conception and of construction in the production of space, and constitutes the result of the process of design that guides the construction in the building site. The use of building-work drawing was studied along history, starting from theoretical approaches that situate it as technical instrument in the mode of production. It aimed at understanding the processes that engendered the separation between distinct instances of conception and of construction in the production of architecture, determined by an increasing division of labor. These theoretical and historical approaches support the questions that guided the observation of the labor activities and the conversations with the agents of projects and works in four specific situations of residential building sites in São Paulo. The analysis of these cases seeks to understand the reciprocal determinations between the production process of the design and the building-work, and its implications for the building-work drawing and the production of architecture.

Full textThe narrative outline of a practice is sometimes sketched by the presence of a simple letter, like a humble dot can reveal the existence of a line. The "e" appears again in the drawing, adorns it with a multiplicity of meanings, giving it the weight never acquired of an autonomous sketch. (There is distinction in French language between the words "dessein" and "dessin" which one I play). At a time of heightened technical reproducibility and through a phenomenon - drawing the Light - the ambition and its tradition question themselves. The Drawing, on a sinuous path, crosses some excessive borders/frontiers, announcing his "transversality". The movement immanent to the material used and the hybridization as an intrinsic concept of the actual creative process, always at the service of the graphic element, will push the Drawing in many directions within and across disciplines - inviting origins, ideas, technical concepts and processes - but also physical. The light produced by the graphic experience, movements between visible and invisible, can be found not only in the sign but also in the photographic index and questions our perception. The research forn brightness and contrast in shades, often with black and white tons, gives an infinite range of potential variations to the creative/esthetic space/arena. This exhaustive potential is threatened by the ultimate act of creativity : the choice, shaping the spatial dispositions of light into multiple graphic compositions.Despite certain technical processes and their evolution, play, phantasy and light phenomenon' poetics protecting the Drawing' secret : an intimate characteristic in which onirism, as a wayto resist, appears. Working with light today - in a secret of a blind act, blinded, blinding - questions the Authenticity as a concept, creating an uneasy relationship to the aura, always between appearance and disappearance facing its previously announced loss

Full textIn this research, I propose works that consist of hybrid designs for men and machines, using technical drawing and figure the posthuman as support for reflection, Indulging in metaphor the relationships between humans and their technology, and replacing part of everyday experiences when using machine. These are digital images and linoleum engraving which feature dialogues and tensions between craft and technology, as well as between the human figure and the figure mechanics. The basement is established by the theoretical literature from definitions of technical philosophy of Gilbert Simondon in dialogue with notes of Edmund Couchot and Flusser. Notes on the cyborg are discussed from Haraway, Santaella and Novaes. Hoelscher, Springer, Dobrovolny and Belofsky contribute with historical references and definitions of the technical drawing in dialogue with observations made in patent registers. Are still considered works of artists such as Stelarc, Albrecht Dürer, Da Vinci, Regina Silveira and Rubem Grilo as poetic references that establish dialogue with this plastic production. Try, thereby establishing propositions within the field of printmaking, technical drawing and hybrid languages, contributing to enlarge the construction of knowledge in the field of visual arts.

Full textThis research studies the activity of technology teachers. By activity, we mean the prediction of the level of difficulty of the industrial drawing exercises, before the session, and the anticipation of the difficulties that the pupils may meet to solve their tasks during the session. The analysis will concern the clarity and certainty of the explanatory elements of the process of prediction and anticipation, and the reasons for the choices made by teachers in terms of difficulty.First, we determine the specific characteristics of the industrial drawing exercises on which teachers rely to predict the level of difficulty, based on the results of a questionnaire submitted to about hundred teachers. Next, we explain factors specific to the interaction situation that allow teachers to anticipate learning difficulties for students from a video analysis of three teaching sessions, followed by interviews. Finally, a mixed methodology will enable us to analyze the articulation of the results obtained during the process of prediction and anticipation. The obtained results highlight the concept of anticipation during the process of teaching and learning:The identification of the prediction and anticipation process helps to identify contrivances for the future realization of a training plan for novice teachers

This research aims to analyze the practice of teaching of technical design, integrating traditional and digital tools, starting from experiments in an integrated environment for higher education. This environment, called Integrated Environmental Education Technical Drawing (AIEDT), was developed to integrate traditional practices with digital tools in an applied discipline of Interior Design Technology Degree in Interior Design (CSTDI) of Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Paraiba (IFPB). At specific level, aims to place the picture of traditional technical drawing, technical drawing to describe the digital artifacts; show the integration of different learning environments, mapping the process of teaching technical drawing at the daily practice of teachers and students. Questioned in this work which mainly changes that may occur when using traditional technical drawing (DTT) integrated with computer aided design (CAD) requiring adaptations to their teacher's way of teaching. The hypothesis is that the teaching of DTT and CAD, embedded in a social interaction environment, provide better education and consequently the learning of graphic expression in a college course. The analytical perspective is the cultural-historical Vygotysky Lev Semenovich, where he addressed the concepts of instrumental and symbolic mediation, and social interaction in the teaching and learning. The methodological procedures were based through archival research and field research through direct observation of the practices not participating in a class of 4th period CSTDI. The instruments for data collection were interviews with teachers of subjects related to technical design, aiming to describe teaching practices and perceptions of their current teaching model; the questionnaire with students in order to verify these teaching practices; literature in books, theses, dissertations, papers and documents, in order to describe the phenomenon, its practices and tools. Our results show that the points analyzed were satisfactory in improving the teaching process.

Full textAirbrush painting is an art like any other, requiring talent and skill. But it is also a technology that, more than ather art forms, calls for technical mastery of equipment used in the process. Every day airbrush artists develop new groundbreaking airbrushing techniques as they refine and experiment with their medium and pass along their knowledge by practice work. As in Lithuania it is common practice – airbrushing is mostly used on cars and motorcycles or helmets. But in my opinion, airbrushing technology has unlimited possibilities, because it’s good to use on various surfaces. Airbrush technique is the freehand manipulation of the airbrush, medium, air pressure and distance from the surface being sprayed in order to produce a certain predictable result on a consistent basis with or without shields or stencils. Creating the cycle of artworks, named “Retrocar”, for the “Havana” night club, I found one of the way to use airbrushihg technology in the interior. And by doing the theoretical part of the work, I’d explained how does the technology works.

Abstract: The objective of this work is optimize the phases of product development, reduce the main time and the cost involved in itself. Like the development is a wide activity, that can be divided in five basic phases: planning, development of project, development of process, manufacturing, continued increase. Emphasized only in project phase, to increase the specific process of distribution of product drawing made by Engineering, and itself is utilized in many departments of the several units the same company. The challenge was create a computer system to distribution of drawing product, itself can be made in four different CAD systems as according as availability the system and which interface were necessary to attend the customer. After made the new system of drawing distribution, compared with a conventional methodology applied nowadays, which was based in paper copy and distribution by internal mail, showing the profit and the possible inconvenience that could happen. The results show like this new methodology to distribution of electronic drawing lows the cost with the copy drawing, time of the information circulate, and the facility to access electronic drawings
