Abstract:
This article rereads two of Mark Twain’s late and most explicitly political but understudied texts involving non-human animals, the short story “A Dog’s Tale” (1903) and the novella A Horse’s Tale (1906), within an Anthropocene context. Although the texts came into existence long before the notion of the Anthropocene was around, the article argues that Twain’s sentimental anthropomorphism has relevance as Anthropocene critique and offers models for alternative narratives of the Anthropocene. After briefly introducing relevant historical and conceptual contexts, my analysis focuses on two speci

Abstract This review is devoted to discuss the unique characteristics of multi-jet electrospinning technique, compared to other spinning techniques, and its utilization in spinning of natural as well as synthetic polymers. The advantages and inadequacies of the current commercial chemical spinning methods; namely wet spinning, melt spinning, dry spinning, and electrospinning are discussed. The unconventional applications of electrospinning in textile and non-textile sectors are reported. Special emphasis is devoted to the theory and technology of the multijet electrospinning as well as its app

Critical thinking is often presented as a generic technique. This article develops an alternative that links critique more closely to the sociological perspective. I suggest three answers to the above question: that the sociological perspective is critical for comprehending complex issues, that all sociology is implicitly critical by virtue of its debunking tendency, and that some sociology is explicitly critical by virtue of value commitments that lead to a critique of domination. The article identifies some basic themes of what it means to think sociologically, discusses sociology's “double

This paper presents a series of techniques, which examine the deformation characteristics of bovine articular chondrocytes. The direct contact approach employs well established methodology, involving AFM and micropipette aspiration, to yield structural properties of local regions of isolated chondrocytes. The former technique yields a non‐linear response with increased structural stiffness in a central location on a projected image of the chondrocyte. A simple viscoelastic model can be used with data from the micropipette aspiration technique to yield a mean value of Young's modulus, which is

Abstract In a recent article, our experience and knowledge of the clinical picture, microsurgical anatomy, and long-term surgical outcome of resecting tuberculum sellae meningiomas was described in detail. We now present our surgical technique in a pictorial and video format for the benefit of neurosurgeons in training, as well as for general critique. Attention is given to the details of surgery: patient positioning, surgical approaches, technique of tumor removal, and postoperative care.
