A large number of impact experiments have been carried out at the Technische Universität Dresden in recent years in several research projects. The focus was on reinforced concrete plates on the one hand and on subsequently strengthened reinforced concrete plates on the other hand. Based on these investigations, two fundamental tasks arose: (1) finding an objective description of the damage of components made of steel reinforced concrete that had previously been subjected to an impact load and (2) quantification of the effect of a subsequently applied strengthening layer. Thus, precise knowledge of the stresses components experience and their lifetime consumption in transient regimes is vital for safe turbine operation. The most common experimental approach to determine heat release fluctuations is the recording of OH*-chemiluminescence. Abstract The development of jet engines is typically accompanied by measurement campaigns to mitigate technical risks at an early design stage and to validate the specified performance. Often different configurations are compared in order to determine the superior one. But due to uncertainties in boundary conditions, geometry, and sensors, the derived performance values are subject to uncertainty as well. Assuming that the desired difference in performance metrics is small compared to the associated uncertainty, it can consequently be hard to conclude on the superiority of the configurations.

Accident scenarios in spent fuel pools (SFP) were not a main topic in nuclear safety studies so far. Heat fluxes are low and the timeframe for counteractions in case of a loss of cooling is long. Beside some analytical approximations from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) there is only few experimental data about loss of coolant accidents in a SFP [1, 3, 4, 5, 6].
