CONSERVATIVE HUMANISM: CLASSIC LITERATURE AND POLITICS AT MID-NINETEENTH CENTURY This article examines the complex relationships between the political struggle of liberals against conservatives and school curricula at the federal level. In this context, it addresses the question of how the teaching of classical literature entered the dynamic of opposition between the political groups of the moment. The research shows the way that conservatives took classical literature and humanities as the basis of its own cultural project, while the liberals opted for a more scientific and technological educ

National and multilateral government agencies and popular narrative promote the idea that the use of information, communication and design technology (ICT-D) in education transform teaching. It is argued that these changes will help students become part of a “new economy” based on the use of ICT-D and characterized by “increased productivity”, “collaboration” and “flexibility.” This article questions this view of technological determinism by presenting an analysis of classrooms in a working class area of Mexico City where young people and adults are being taught to use the computer.
