Abstract:
The study presents two entrepreneurship typologies: necessity-driven and opportunity-driven. ‘Opportunity’ entrepreneurs start a business to pursue an opportunity, while ‘necessity’ entrepreneurship is requirement-based and attempts for the best option available in the absence of alternate employment opportunities. Push and pull effects are analogous to necessity-based and opportunity-based entrepreneurship. The study explored success through stages of the entrepreneurial process. The push entrepreneur proved her resilience despite the absence of spousal support. Behind the pull entrepreneur’s success was spousal support. The key findings are that success is influenced by the entrepreneur’s grit, willpower and attitude. The objective of the case is to study two typologies of entrepreneurship, based on their motivation to become an entrepreneur—necessity-driven and opportunity-driven. It also examines the various factors that could influence the success of entrepreneurship. Both entrepreneurs discussed in the study had several common factors. The two succeeded in their entrepreneurship due to their sheer grit, determination and a feeling of higher purpose. Multiple pieces of evidences exist to show that grit is a success factor linked to positive outcomes. The phenomenon studied in this case include ‘opportunity’ and ‘necessity’ entrepreneurs. It also studied the push and pull effects in entrepreneurship, which are analogous to opportunity-based and necessity-based entrepreneurship. The push entrepreneur was involved in boutique business, and pull entrepreneur was in catering business. The findings are that the push entrepreneur demonstrated resilience despite many drawbacks. The success of the pull entrepreneur’s involved spousal support too. In both cases, the critical finding is that success is influenced by the entrepreneur’s grit, willpower and attitude. Further, neither of the women entrepreneurs took any loan to fund their business. Both entrepreneurs discussed in the study had a few common factors. Both of them were educated. The two entrepreneurs exhibited grit, determination and a feeling of higher purpose. Grit has been found to be a success factor and linked to positive outcomes.

Abstract:
This article examines entrepreneurial identity in both the United Kingdom and China through the lenses of identity theory and social identity theory to develop a deeper and more holistic understanding of the concept of entrepreneurial identity. By examining the entrepreneur as both a role and an identity, this article explores how an entrepreneur views the role of the entrepreneur, the counter-roles to the entrepreneur, and the “self-as-entrepreneur” and seeks to understand how entrepreneurs construct their identity as an entrepreneur. By looking at the role identity in different social constructs, a more nuanced view of entrepreneurial identity can be uncovered for entrepreneurs in both the United Kingdom and China. The study argues that entrepreneurs in the United Kingdom use counter-roles to bridge the disconnect between their understanding of the entrepreneur-as-role and the self-as-entrepreneur, whereas entrepreneurs in China have less conflict reconciling the two and use the counter-role as a way to paint entrepreneurship as a “calling,” justifying their abandonment of other identities.

The demand for new industrialization makes the lack of innovation in Russia a topical issue. Serial entrepreneurs are a promising source of innovation. Basing on empirical data (SPARK database), we considered the hypothesis that mass strategies for establishing a technology business are less effective. The aim of the article is to develop a theoretical and methodological approach to serial technology entrepreneurship as a source of new industrialization. The authors identified 4 dominant strategies used by serial entrepreneurs to set up technology businesses. The necessity of a new term "serial potential" of an entrepreneur is substantiated. The research novelty refers to the development of the methodological approach "The Effect of serial technology entrepreneur", which allows evaluating the performance of serial technology entrepreneurs in setting up technology companies. It has been found that the strategy "From services in technology field to production" is the most advantageous in terms of total efficiency for new industrialization.

Abstract:
A returnee entrepreneur playing an important role in China market is a notable phenomenon. While their advanced knowledge and overseas networking in developed countries have advantages over local counterparts, their lack of local knowledge and connection may mitigate their advantages. This study explores the research questions how and why external management control of returnee entrepreneur is inferior to local counterpart. Based on the data collected in year 2002 from Chinese technology venture companies in Zhongguancun Science Park (ZSP), we find that the performance of returnee entrepreneur’s firms is lower when they have more local subsidiaries and when they are owned by foreigners. It implies that returnee entrepreneurs may be less effective in management control over local subsidiaries which may indicate a low level of headquarters control. It also implies that foreign ownership gives rise to increase in agency conflicts between returnee entrepreneurs and foreign investors and thus has a negative impact on firms’ innovation performance.

The potential strength of entrepreneurship in Indonesia lies in the potential of human resources who are a literate internet. Nevertheless, there are still some weaknesses that are not yet equal to the ability. The problem is how is the condition of Indonesian entrepreneur about its virtual literacy? Construct Validity uses the Item Response Theory (IRT) approach through Orthogonal Iteration. The reason, because all dimensions and indicators are the results of the theoretical studies are called as signs of the variables Literacy Virtual Entrepreneur Indonesia (Y). The number of samples of the instrument test was 81 entrepreneurs consisting of 27 districts/cities each represented 3 entrepreneurs. The R-criteria of the Product Moment is set at 0.221. Of the 32 items planned, proved to be all valid. The reliability of "valid instrument" of the Virtual Literacy variables of Entrepreneur Indonesia (Y) as internal consistency is calculated by Cronbach Alpha formula, the result is 0.892. Research methods with Neuroresearch. The result of the research: Firstly, Indonesian entrepreneurs tend to be significantly virtual literate on α <0,05. Second, having the capacity to realize information technology literacy (X4) is the most powerful indicator to realize the formation of Literacy Virtual Entrepreneur Indonesia (Y). It is able to determine an increase of 83,521 times from the condition of Literacy Virtual Entrepreneur Indonesia (Y).

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to assess the effects of technology innovation intensity on firm performance. A sample of 297 businesses funded by the Youth Enterprise Development Fund in Kenya was used as study framework. Correlation and a regression model were used for content analysis. The findings show that technology innovation intensity contributes positively to firm performance, but the entrepreneur characteristic affects the firms' innovation level. Further, the results show low profitability and expansion level among micro and small enterprises. The findings provide information necessary for competitive advantages and recommends the empowerment of entrepreneurs in technology innovation trends for their firm performance. The study endeavors to discover and advance enterprise innovative strategies that are ideally anchored in the technological, organizational, and environmental frameworks. The value of this study is on the approaches of entrepreneur capability in handling technology innovation intensity within a competitive business environment to improve firm performance.

This research paper aims to propose and empirically test a theoretical model, positing relationships among entrepreneur, technology and resources. The applied methodology was completing a questionnaire survey by a random sample of undergraduate management and engineering students across five Romanian faculties. The results were based on structural equation modeling analysis. Results provide strong support for the proposition that the success of a good business idea strongly depends on some factors, including the capabilities of an entrepreneur, on the technology used to implement the idea and on the necessary resources. The paper demonstrates that the success of an idea in technological entrepreneurship, based on the potential young entrepreneurs point of view is influenced by the characteristics of the young entrepreneur, by his capabilities and his knowledge. The success is also influenced in some proportions by the innovation of technology, its development and globalization. The third category of the success factors is resources, which includes temporal resources, material resources, financial resources and informational resources. The conclusion of this research is that the most important factor for a successful business idea is the entrepreneur.

I have spent the majority of my career around nascent businesses as an entrepreneur or as a part of the ecosystem of service providers for entrepreneurs, and more recently, as an anthropologist studying entrepreneurs. I have started three tech companies and been a managing director at an organization designed to accelerate the growth of technology-focused businesses. These experiences mean I have been an entrepreneur, have helped entrepreneurs as a business coach, and understand the culture and values of entrepreneurship from an anthropological perspective. In order to discuss how anthropologists can use their skills to help entrepreneurs create and demonstrate value, first I will define entrepreneurship and the values of that culture.

Large and established firms tend to be greater at exploiting their current business rather than exploring the opportunities of tomorrow. In industries facing changes, such a firm could lose their market place when the surrounding environment shifts. Thus, there is a need for new ways of increasing the exploration capabilities of many large and established firms. This thesis examines a German automotive OEM that is taking measures to become more explorative through collaborations with startups. Generally, startups are characterized as agile, risk-taking, innovative, rapid, and close to the customer. However, they lack the resources, industry knowledge and scale that larger organizations have. Therefore, a collaboration of the two could be fruitful for both parties. The case company (referred to as OEM) is currently developing and evaluating a model, called the Exploration Capability Model, which includes measures for startup collaborations and creation of spinouts, upon which this thesis has its’ starting point. In parallel with the model, the OEM has recently created a so-called Venture Client unit (referenced as VCU), with the aim to facilitate startup collaborations. This study aims to identify the importance and influence of these collaborations, with regards to the individuals in the OEM. Thus, this study is a response to a gap in the research on how to possibly link the individual’s entrepreneurial characteristics to an organizational exploration capability. We argue that understanding (1) the collaborations between established organizations and startups, (2) the formation of spinouts, (3) the relationship between employees in the large corporation and the entrepreneurs in startups, is of great importance. Based on this, the research question, “How do entrepreneurial characteristics at an individual level affect organizational ambidexterity in terms of explorative capability?”, was formed. The methodology used in this research was an inductive and qualitative analysis approach, where the data gathering was done with an emphasis on a thoroughly formulated interview guide used in 16 semi-structured interviews. These interviews were transcribed, coded, and analyzed to find patterns and discrepancies connected to the research question. The findings highlight the importance of the individual and their behavior in facilitating startup collaborations and spinout efforts. In addition, further recommendations consider how an established organization such as the OEM can approach these topics with an aim to increase the exploration capability of the company. Emphasizing how the individuals can be nurtured within the company with regards to motivation, change of mindset, organizational support, exposure to entrepreneurial ventures and the organizational view on risk.<br>Stora och etablerade företag tenderar att vara bättre på att utnyttja sin nuvarande verksamhet snarare än att utforska morgondagens möjligheter. Resultaten lyfter fram vikten av individen och deras beteende när det kommer till samarbeten med startups och spinouts. Rekommendationer gällande hur en stor organisation som OEM kan bemöta problemet med att utforska mer, är presenterade. Det understryks hur individerna kan vårdas inom företaget med avseende på motivation, förändring av mindset, stöd från organisationen, exponering för startups och organisatorisk syn på risker.

Abstract:
Technical innovation creates challenges for the small business entrepreneur who uses global activities in the marketplace. Information technology and the technological innovations of the World Wide Web are driving competitiveness in the marketplace with a loss of market share for the individual business owner. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences and perceptions of a purposive sample of 20 small business owners in the metropolitan Atlanta area regarding the effect of technology, technological insertion, and application for long-term sustainability. Rogers's diffusion of innovations theory served as the conceptual framework of this study. Data were gathered through face-to-face, semistructured interviews. After analyzing the interview transcripts using inductive analysis, 6 major themes emerged. The themes include the forces that drive the introduction of technology, types of technology used to reach potential and existing customers, most commonly used and implemented types of technology, the beliefs and values on the use of technology, the obstacles that inhibit the use of technology, and the competitive advantage of the use of technology for the small business entrepreneur. The implications for positive social change include the potential for growth and sustainability for the small business entrepreneur leading to stronger economies and job creation in local communities and nationally. Small business owners may use the findings to implement technology insertion strategies contributing to long-term sustainability initiatives. These findings may also inform scholars of business management and entrepreneurship regarding the effect of technology, technological insertion, and application for long-term sustainability.

<p>Business has changed and developed fast and drastically through internationalization, which has drawn many scholars’ attentions. The dissertation will focus on the firm-specific advantages (FSAs) which allow firms to go to the international markets.</p><p>The theoretical framework of this dissertation contains four proxies of the firm’s specific advantages, including entrepreneur, market knowledge, network, and technology. In this dissertation, this framework will guide us to collect and analyze the empirical data.</p><p>The qualitative research strategy is employed in this dissertation. Utilizing the multiple case study, we choose two sample companies, both from Halmstad. The empirical data was gathered through semi-structured personal interviews. Data was also supplemented with secondary data, such as web pages and scientific articles.</p><p>The finding of this dissertation is that market knowledge and experience is a crucial, firm-specific advantage, which facilitates firm’s international expansion. In addition, the entrepreneur and network variables also have an impact on the internationalization process in direct or indirect ways. However, the study does not find obvious evidence that technology does help firms go to the foreign markets a lot.</p>

Denna studies ändamål är att undersöka hur entreprenörer upplever mötet med finansiärer och om upplevelserna skiljer sig mellan kvinnor och män. För att undersöka detta har elva stycken djupintervjuer gjorts med entreprenörer. Sex av dessa entreprenörer är kvinnor och fem stycken är män. Frågorna är semistrukturerade för att ge entreprenörerna utrymme att på ett naturligt sätt kunna beskriva sina upplevelser. I resultatet visas det hur entreprenörerna beskriver situationer med finansiärer, hur de upplever sig behandlade och hur de känner inför dessa möten. Slutsatsen av studien är att det finns skillnader på hur manliga och kvinnliga entreprenörer blir bemötta av finansiärer. Kvinnorna får utstå situationer som männen aldrig får, exempelvis sexism. De behöver tänka på sitt utseende i högre grad och de använder sig av olika strategier för att hantera den ojämlika situationen. Vi kan även se att kvinnorna upplever situationen som jobbigare än vad män gör.<br>The purpose of this study is to investigate how entrepreneurs experience the meeting with financiers and whether experiences differ between women and men. To investigate this, eleven in-depth interviews have been conducted with entrepreneurs. Six of these entrepreneurs are women and five are men. The questions are semi structured to give the entrepreneurs space to be able to describe their experiences in a natural way. The result shows how entrepreneurs describe situations with financiers, how they are treated and how they feel about these meetings. The conclusion of the study is that there are differences in how male and female entrepreneurs are being treated by financiers. Women are exposed to situations that men never are, for example sexism. They need to think about their appearance to a greater extent and they use different strategies to cope with the uneven situation. We can also see that women experience the situation as more difficult than men experiance it.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates knowledge and learning in new technology-based firms (NTBFs) in an early-stage entrepreneurial ecosystem. Previous work on entrepreneurial learning suggests that experiential learning, vicarious learning and exploration are the learning types that entrepreneurs use to manage knowledge, and that this leads to the creation of entrepreneurial knowledge. While the majority of previous research involves entrepreneurial learning that is based on absorptive capacity (ACAP) to generate competitive advantage, this study examines how new venture teams (NVTs) manage new and prior knowledge when developing and commercialising software. The knowledge-based view (KBV) regards knowledge as the most important resource to allocate. This research adopts this approach in exploring how NVTs acquire, assimilate and use new knowledge. Based on a framework encompassing networks, prior knowledge and knowledge management the study explores, examines and analyses: i. Entrepreneurial networks; ii. Early-stage entrepreneurial ecosystems; iii. NVTs’ prior knowledge; and iv. Knowledge integration activities. The research adopts a qualitative approach and methodology comprising two stages. The first one captures the perceptions of multiple agents involved in the entrepreneurial networks in Colombia, from government, academia and support institutions (private and public). In the second stage eight NVTs from Medellín were asked to describe the resources and source of resources used when developing and commercialising the first innovative product while creating and establishing the NTBF; their answers were validated in a second interview using a mind map to illustrate key events and key sources of new knowledge. Analysis of the data reveals that even in early-stage entrepreneurial ecosystems, NVTs acquire knowledge from external sources, such as mentors, intermediaries and customers. This finding echoes the importance of ACAP in NTBF creation and survival. Moreover, NVTs acquire knowledge from internal sources of knowledge, such as new members, experience and formal education. In general, regardless of how related, specific and complementary the prior knowledge of the NVT is, all cases use external and internal knowledge integration activities. This study provides new insights into the nature of knowledge integration and has clarified distinctions between two key substantive capabilities in NTBFs: developing a technology and commercialising a new product. As regard to the KBV, the thesis also shows how entrepreneurial and innovative networks helped with the acquisition of new knowledge in an early-stage entrepreneurial ecosystem. This new knowledge can be market-related but also technical-related, and can also be acquired by outsourcing when the NVT’s knowledge base is not specialised in the technology that the firm offers. NVTs manage prior and new knowledge when developing and commercialising new technologies while they create and establish the NTBF, for by doing so they also focus on sales to maintain cash flow. The study suggests that members of NVTs work together, make decisions together and are both reflective and selective when choosing their sources of new knowledge in NTBFs. This study has important implications for policymakers and practitioners. While current policies and entrepreneurs recognise networks as the most important source of knowledge, findings of this research suggests that internal sources of knowledge are equally important, therefore NVTs must also develop internal knowledge integration abilities.

Overall aim of this master’s thesis is to describe and identify perceived barriers in Swedish businesses within solar energy field and analyze, based on four theoretical viewpoints, how these barriers can be handled. In other words how can the barriers be overcome or eliminated to better succeed in the commercialization process? The method applied is qualitative in which data has been collected through phone interviews originated from seven Cleantech businesses which operate within solar energy. Furthermore this thesis has a descriptive- and an explorative purpose. Empirical findings have showed that barriers depend upon the company itself, but also the community, academic- and governmental institutions. Some businesses do not have an international point of view, instead they have costs aspects in mind. Priorities seem to be a crucial factor when it comes to commercialization. The Swedish government does not contribute enough support to solar energy sector. There is lack of combination in commercialization and technical aspects within the educational system.

The aim of this study is to reduce the ambiguity of the university technology transfer (UTT) process by monitoring the interactions and the antecedent factors, including prior knowledge and experience, of the key stakeholders – University Technology Transfer Managers (TTMs) and Academic Entrepreneurs (AEs) –in the creation of university spin-out. This study develops a novel conceptual framework by using absorptive capacity (AC) to understand the determinants that constitute university spin-out AC, the role of TTMs and AEs and the impact of their collaborative and synergistic relationship upon different stages of the spin-out process. Based on the exploratory nature of this research, this study adopts a multiple case study methodology and qualitative approach to investigate relationship building and collaboration between university AEs and TTMs within the process of spin-out. The investigation was made up of thirteen case studies with twenty-six interviewees (thirteen TTMs and thirteen AEs, as pairs), from eleven universities across the UK. The research findings reveal that prior knowledge (consisting of experience, background, networks, personal attributes, and motivation) is of great value to both TTMs and AEs, as it shapes and highlights the complementary function of each of their roles in the spin-out process, and contributes to spin-out AC in various ways. Prior knowledge also helps TTMs and AEs to act as the cornerstone of university spin-out combinative capabilities (that is, shared language, connectedness, close communication, tighter interaction, and trust building), which facilitate the spin-out process and assist AC development as a whole through their synergistic effect. This study adds to the UTT and AC literature by addressing antecedent factors, explorative and exploitative learning, and areas for possible improvement of AE and TTM collaboration and of the spin-out process as a whole. It aims to provide a more explicit understanding of the process of UTT and the stakeholders involved, leading to better control and development of UTT related activity, and contributes both to present and future research and to policy making.

This research contributes to the discussion surrounding New Zealand’s entrepreneurial environment and Innovation Framework and addresses the research problem of whether the New Zealand government should seek to support entrepreneurship and innovation through the various knowledge-based or regulatory organisations it owns or funds, and if so, how it should go about accomplishing this. The approach taken was to use qualitative methods to examine how the government’s support for entrepreneurship and innovation was delivered to an emerging cluster of entrepreneurs from the point of view of those entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs were involved in the innovative industry of land-based aquaculture and fieldwork was carried out in the Gisborne Region, on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. This study began by reviewing relevant literature from academic, industry and government sources to identify relevant sub-themes and create a framework for analysis. Fieldwork was undertaken using ethnographic methods to explore how the entrepreneurs experienced the New Zealand entrepreneurial environment and innovation framework in their interactions with knowledge-based and regulatory organisations. Data was gathered primarily by participant observation and semi-structured interviews and transcripts were coded and analysed using NVivo® software. An ethnographic narrative was produced and the interview transcripts analysed for relevance to the sub-themes from literature and to identify patterns that emerged from the data. This research reports that four of the entrepreneurs failed in their ventures due to a combination of factors both within their operations and within the entrepreneurial environment. These factors included technical difficulties maintaining livestock health and growth within an artificial marine environment, an inability to obtain assistance from knowledge-based organisations, problems in dealing with regulatory organisations, difficulty retaining trained staff, uncertainty about the market, and high energy costs. The Māori training organisation, Turanga Ararau, formed the Gisborne Aquaculture Society in an effort to establish a Gisborne aquaculture cluster however, this initiative proved unsuccessful primarily because the society failed to attract the 12 involvement of key stakeholders. This research contributes to the policy and practice of cluster facilitation by examining the extent to which best practice was followed in this attempt to establish a cluster and presents conclusions as to how the process of establishing the cluster could have been improved. This study also reports that the entrepreneurs were cut off from access to knowledge and research resources and received little advice or support from the knowledge based organisations that might have played a role in the development of their cluster. It examines how and why New Zealand’s Innovation Framework might be failing to recognise and support the vital role of entrepreneurs in economic development and suggests how this might be improved. The methodology chapters of this thesis contribute to literature regarding the use of ethnographic methods in entrepreneurship research and a further by-product of this thesis is an ethnographic account of the participant observation and semi structured interviews with the entrepreneurs. This research also provides an insight into the obstacles and challenges faced by entrepreneurs in New Zealand, in particular those involved in the emerging recirculating aquaculture industry.

Despite the high rate of failure in merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions, many organizations continue to rely on M&As as their primary growth strategy and to address market competition. The purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore strategies managers from a large healthcare payer in the midwestern United States used to achieve operational and strategic synergies during the postacquisition information technology (IT) integration phase. Haspeslagh and Jemison's acquisition integration approaches model was the conceptual framework for the study. Methodological triangulation was established by analyzing the data from the semistructured interviews of 6 senior executives and 6 IT strategists, discussion points produced in a focus group involving 4 acquisition integration leaders, and information gleaned from M&A periodicals. Data were analyzed using Saldaña's thematic analysis method and showed that the healthcare payer organization managers used the following 4 strategies to achieve the planned synergies: plan for expected business synergies from the postacquisition IT integration, make cultural harmonization a key element of change management, align and continuously evaluate the progress of postacquisition IT integration strategies against planned synergies, and preserve durability of acquired capabilities by granting autonomy to the acquired organization. The findings of this study could lead to positive social change by stimulating a business environment that might allow healthcare payers to expand their strategic capabilities and serve their local communities with new products and other choices that improve the quality of care, health outcomes, well-being, and longevity of the consumer.

Egenkontroll utgör en viktig del av byggbranschens kvalitetsarbete och något som under lång tid diskuterats som en lösning på byggbranschens kvalitetsproblem. Studier har dock riktat kritik till hur byggbranschens egenkontroll utförs och dokumenteras och pekar på att dess trovärdighet länge har varit låg. Det har även poängterats att det finns stora brister i både engagemang och kunskap kring egenkontrollens syfte och utförande. I och med den fjärde industriella revolutionen och dess snabba digitala utveckling har digitala verktyg implementerats för att underlätta utförande och dokumentation av egenkontrollen. Frågan är dock om digitala verktyg är rätt väg att gå när det gäller att försöka öka egenkontrollens bristande trovärdighet. Detta examensarbete syftar därmed till att skapa en ökad förståelse för egenkontrollens syfte samt ge en sammanställd bild av hur egenkontrollsystemet inom den svenska byggbranschen fungerar i produktion. Detta gäller både egenkontrollsystemet generellt men även med koppling till det digitala verktyg som implementerats för dess utförande och dokumentation. Arbetet har genomförts som en fördjupad litteraturstudie med kompletterande empiristudie där erfarenheter samlats in från både tidigare forskning, studier och deltagande respondenter. Resultatet av studien visar att det finns en stor variation i uppfattningen om egenkontrollens syfte och kravställning samt att det finns en utbredd brist på både kunskap och motivation kring egenkontrollens utförande och dokumentation. Detta har bidragit till en generell brist på tilltro till byggbranschens egenkontrollsystem. Det verktyg som implementerats för digitalt utförande och dokumentation av egenkontroll har påvisat fördelaktiga effekter men har inte lyckats åtgärda den problematik kring de variationer och brister som framkommit i denna rapport. För att åtgärda byggbranschens rådande kvalitetsbrister förespråkas att branschens företag sätter upp tydliga ramar för hur arbetet med egenkontroll ska utföras inom den egna verksamheten samt att detta arbetssätt sedan implementeras på rätt sätt. Att arbetssättet för egenkontroll finns på plats är en förutsättning för implementering av digitala verktyg.<br>Self-inspection is an important part of the construction industry's quality work and is something that has been discussed as a solution to the quality problems of the construction industry. However, studies have criticized how self-inspection is carried out and documented, also pointing out its low credibility. In addition, it is emphasized that there are major shortcomings in both commitment and knowledge about the purpose and execution of self-inspection. With the fourth industrial revolution and its rapid digital development, digital tools have been implemented to facilitate the execution and documentation of self-inspection. With that being said, the question is whether digital tools are the correct solution to increase the selfinspection’s lack of credibility. Therefore, this master thesis aims to provide readers with an increased understanding of the purpose of self-inspection, as well as to provide a comprehensive picture of how the system of self-inspection within the Swedish construction industry is perceived in production. This applies both to the system of self-inspection in general, as well as the digital tool that are implemented for execution and documentation. The work has been carried out as an in-depth literature study with a complementary empirical study in which experiences have been collected from both previous research, studies and participant respondents. The result of the study shows that there is a great variation in the perception of the purpose and requirements of self-inspection, and that there is a widespread lack of both knowledge and motivation regarding the execution and documentation of self-inspection. This has contributed to a general lack of trust in the self-inspection system. The tool that has been implemented for digital execution and documentation of self-inspection has shown beneficial effects but has not been able to address the problems surrounding the variations and shortcomings that have emerged throughout this report. In order to remedy the prevailing quality deficiencies in the construction industry, it is advocated that companies set up clear frameworks for how the work with self-inspection should be carried out within their own operations and that this work method is then implemented correctly. The means of self-inspection needs to be in place before any implementation of digital tools is advantageously possible.

Innovation, and especially innovation leadership, is a critical factor in enhancing a firm’s success in today’s changing markets. This research investigates changes in the entrepreneurial leadership attributes amid the fourth industrial revolution and how these changes relate to the fast pace of technology advancement. As part of the fourth industrial revolution, the barrier to introducing innovative technology has decreased due to the accessibility of high-end commercial capabilities, such as cloud computing, big-data capacities, open-source codes, and more, which reduce their need for in-house development. This research taps into the current academic knowledge gap and aims to understand how leadership traits (or attributes) may help fully exploit this significant revolution’s advantages and gain a competitive advantage over rivals. This paper also contributes to the knowledge of innovation study and entrepreneur leadership study. The research utilizes automated techniques of content analysis of published interviews and entrepreneurs’ biographies from recent years and the distant past. The results reveal that current entrepreneurs tend to be open-minded while avoiding rejecting innovation from other firms (avoiding “the not invented here” concept) and are willing to share the experience with the adjacent technology eco-system. The main conclusion of the research is that the entrepreneur in the current era should utilize the open innovation eco-system and gather the ingredients for innovation initiatives, and also have the ability to accurately seek the best offthe- shelf solution to use and integrate it while avoiding time- and budget-consuming development procedures.
