Zhu, Mengyuan. "Numerical Investigation of Encapsulation Technology in Polymer Flooding Processes." Thesis, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, 2018. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10607230.

Abstract:
<p> Polymer flooding is one of the most common chemical EOR techniques used in EOR projects worldwide. However, field applications of polymer flooding are usually limited by the cost of polymer and its considerable loss during the injection. The injectivity and efficiency of polymer flooding are significantly affected by polymer degradation, polymer retention, and high velocity near the wellbore. A function of nanoparticles&mdash;encapsulation&mdash;can be used to reduce these adverse impacts. Encapsulating polymer in the nanocapsules can isolate polymer from the environment and from impact ne

Meskar, Mahmoud. "Treatment of Petroleum Contaminated Soil using Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) Technology." Thesis, Université d'Ottawa / University of Ottawa, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10393/37393.

Full text
Abstract:
In Canada, about 60% of contaminated sites involve petroleum hydrocarbon (PHC) contamination and most of these sites have been abandoned due to contamination. Among current technologies used for soil remediation, supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) is a relatively recent and potentially viable method. The main aim of this research was to investigate the application of SFE for removal of PHCs from contaminated soils. In the first phase, the effects of SFE operational parameters including fluid pressure, fluid temperature, time duration and mode of extraction on the removal efficiency of PHCs

<p>This Master Thesis work aims to find a model system combining the positive effects of surfactant and polymer flooding to enhance oil recovery. This report presents the results of 12 core floors performed to enhance recovery of waterflood residual oil. The recovery is enhanced by a visous surfactant flood consistent of one polymer to increase the viscosity, one surfactant for interfacial tension reduction, and one di-alcohol to function as co-surfactant and for salinity control.</p><p>The chemical treatment that gave the best result, gave an additional oil production normalized on OOIP of 20

Abstract:
Petroleum refineries are important facilities for refining petroleum products that provide the primary source of energy for domestic and industrial consumption globally. Petroleum refinery operations provide significant contribution to global economic growth. Petroleum refineries are complex, multifaceted systems that perform multiple phase operations characterized by a high level of risk. Evidence based major accidents that have occurred within the last three decades in the petroleum refineries, around the world, indicates losses estimated in billions of US dollars. Many of these accidents ar

Alawi, Nabil Majd. "Microwave Plasma Dry Reforming of Methane Technology for Syngas Production and Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG)." Thesis, Curtin University, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.11937/79910.

Full text
Abstract:
In this study, a microwave plasma reactor system was used to produce syngas via dry reforming of methane (DRM) and a combination of DRM with steam reforming (SRM) at atmospheric pressure. Box–Behnken design (BBD) method was used to find the optimizing conditions based on the experimental results. The performance of DRM microwave plasma was studied as functions of additive gas (N2 and Ar) flow rate, microwave power, CO2/CH4 ratio, and reaction time.

Abstract:
The huge amount of petroleum hydrocarbons contaminated sites is the heritage of a long history of fossil fuels usage. Reducing petroleum hydrocarbons levels in contaminated soils by Fenton reaction and with the aid of one or two agents such as solvents, surfactants, or vegetable oils has been studied in recent years, with successful reported results. Nonetheless, destruction of the aliphatic fraction of total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) by Fenton reaction has been studied to a lesser extent as compared to the aromatic fraction of TPH.
