Abstract:
This case study explores the origins of a new high-growth family start-up competing in a traditional industry. Teeling Whiskey Company Ltd (TWC) is the brainchild of entrepreneur Jack Teeling. This new venture stems from another high-profile, family-based business named Cooley Distillery. Jack was Managing Director of Cooley Distillery, the business his father founded in 1987. At Cooley Distillery, he acquired a wealth of professional experience in whiskey distilling and selling. When the distillery was sold to a large US spirits company in 2012, Jack pursued his own entrepreneurial venture in

The spring bloom of phytoplankton—an annual population explosion that propagates poleward across much of the open ocean and spills across the continental shelves—is a seasonal bounty for the marine ecosystem. As it wanes, its annual legacy is a flux of carbon out of the atmosphere as the organic material, containing newly fixed carbon, sinks. On page 54 of this issue, Mahadevan et al. (1) suggest that the bloom can be triggered by instabilities in surface currents that trap phytoplankton near the sunlit surface. In another study, Teeling et al. ABSTRACTIn recent work, Teele and Thelen (2017) documented the underrepresentation of female-authored scholarship in a broad selection of political science journals. To better understand these patterns, we present the results of an original, individual-level survey of political scientists conducted in the spring of 2017. Confirming Teele and Thelen’s speculation, our evidence indicates that differences in submission rates underlie the gender gap in publication—a pattern particularly pronounced for the discipline’s “top three” journals. We thank Bess and Paradise, (1994)1 for bringing attention to some relevant issues related to universal newborn hearing screening. We note that their assertion that the effects of mild or moderate temporary hearing loss are "entirely speculative and perhaps nonexistent" may be somewhat overstated (see, for example, Teele, Klein, Chase, Menyuk, Rosner and associates, 1990).2 The assertion that click-evoked auditory brainstem response (ABR) may be used "... primarily to detect high-frequency hearing loss" is not warranted and misleading.

To the Editor.— I wish to congratulate Drs. Teele, Klein, and Rosner on their study of otitis media with effusion (Pediatrics 1984;74:282-287). However, in their interpretation of the results, I think they are confusing statistical significance with clinical significance. They report a small, but statistically significant difference in scores on several speech and language tests for their sample as a whole (N = 200) for different time periods of effusions. They do not report how many of the children in each group were delayed enough to require speech therapy (clinical significance).

Traditionally, this diagnosis has been based on the clinical findings of projectile nonbilious vomiting, the palpation of a pyloric tumour (or “olive”), and the presence of classic metabolic disturbances. Language is normally associated with linguistic capabilities of individuals. In the theory of multiple intelligences, language is considered to be related primarily to linguistic intelligence. Using the theory of Multiple Intelligences as its starting point, this descriptive survey study investigated to what extent prospective English teachers’ high school education contributed to the development of linguistic intelligence which is essential for language teachers. The data were collected, using the Teele Inventory of Multiple Intelligences. The results showed that of the seven intelligences in

The study reported on here was conducted to examine the consistency of the views of children and teachers in predicting the multiple intelligence areas of children at the end of the education programme provided in an enriched class based on multiple intelligence practices in a pre-school education institution. Using the pre-test-education-post-test experimental method, we applied the relational pattern to investigate the relationship between the 2 variables. The sample group of this study consisted of 34 children aged 5 to 6 years, 17 in the experimental and 17 in the control group. As data co

ABSTRACTIn the age of ever-increasing “-omics” studies, the accurate and statistically robust determination of microbial cell numbers within often-complex samples remains a key task in microbial ecology. Microscopic quantification is still the only method to enumerate specific subgroups of microbial clades within complex communities by, for example, fluorescencein situhybridization (FISH). In this study, we improved an existing automatic image acquisition and cell enumeration system and adapted it for usage at high seas on board an oceanographic research ship. The system was evaluated by testi
