Abstract:
Literary reception encompasses reader’s role in making meaning from literary texts. Student’s reception of teenage short story can give an idea of student’s acceptance of this type of text. This is interesting because students as teenagers are rarely involved in responding to teenage short stories, particularly ones available in newspapers. This research aims to examine the reception of teen short stories in the Kedaulatan Rakyat Newspaper by students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Bantul Regency in terms of intellectual and emotional aspects. Respondents in this study are 128 students of MTsN 1 Bantul, MTsN 3 Bantul, MTsN 4 Bantul, MTs Al Falah, and MTs Hasyim Asy'ari. The data were collected using a reception questionnaire focusing on intellectual and emotional aspects. The results of the study are as follows. First, in terms of intellectual aspect, the students’ reception of teen short stories in Kedaulatan Rakyat is high (70.82%), moderate (15.62%), and low (13.58%). Second, in terms of emotional aspect, the students’ reception of teen short stories in this newspaper is high (38.86%), moderate (20.28%), and low (40.86%). Fourth, there is no significant difference between the reception of students from state madrasah and private madrasah. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that students of class IX of Madrasah Tsanawiyah, Bantul Regency can understand well the elements of story builders and the structure of short story, language, themes, and conflicts in the short story. Students also understand the logic of the story in the text and feel the tension of the conflict. The new values in the short stories and actions of the main characters are quite acceptable to students. Students are also interested enough to discuss the short stories further. Meanwhile, most students felt less emotional impact and do not feel the tension presented in the short story.

Abstract:
Dilan 1990 is a teenage film with the highest number of viewers in 2018, which reached 6,315,664. The success of Dilan 1990 is inseparable from the culture industry's strength, which can mobilize public interest through reliable publication and marketing. The success of the film Dilan carrying the characters of Dilan and Milea as teen idols raises concerns about the identity of adolescents who are laden with violent symbols. This is because the content and theme of the story in the 1990s were constructed with Dilan's character, who liked to fight. For this reason, this study aims to analyze the construction of adolescent identity and social violence in the 1990 Dilan film. This research method uses a qualitative approach with an interpretative paradigm. Data Analysis Method uses narrative analysis of film subtitles with the Vladimir Propp analysis model. The unit of analysis in this study is the film Dilan 1990 (2018). Data collection techniques are conducted with text analysis, literature study, observation, and documents. This study concludes that social violence among adolescents is constructed in the cinema through adolescents' identity, both verbal violence and physical violence in the school environment and outside of school. Young men carry out social violence to young women who describe gender inequality, which refers to social violence due to cultural factors.

Despite declining birthrates, teen pregnancy is still seen as an “epidemic” centered among low-income young women of color. Professional, conservative, and social justice views of the “problem” vary greatly. This article reports on the first findings from a systematic review of qualitative studies from 1989 to 2014. Forty-one studies were identified, and the narratives in them varied. Variation in perspective was related to the profession of the study author and whether the author professed a feminist and critical race perspective. Findings inform theory, practice, and policy.

Full text
Abstract:
Teenage parenting is widely constructed in prevailing research and public discourse as a social problem, with poor outcomes for parent and child. Teenage parents are regarded as a drain on state funds, too young to parent well, and at high risk of social exclusion, both educationally and economically. This thesis proposes that teenage motherhood is a turning point in a young woman’s life and identity, which can be an opportunity, rather than a problem, if there is adequate support for the mother and her child. It considers the role of a New Zealand School for Teenage Parents in providing this support. Using qualitative narrative methodology, ten young women, six family members and nine other members of the School community were interviewed about their experiences of its culture and practices. Six of the young women were also interviewed to gather their life stories. Informed by the narrative understanding that we story our identities from the narrative possibilities available to us within the varied discursive contexts of our lives, this thesis draws on these life stories to explore how the young women storied the fashioning of their own identities as young women, as learners and as young parents. It presents their stories of childhood and family life, teenage-hood and schooling, pregnancy and parenthood, their experiences at the School for Teenage Parents, and their lives since leaving the School, in order to consider the role of the School in supporting the positive refashioning of their identities. This thesis draws on social constructionist and narrative theories to interpret the storied contexts of the young women’s lives, and the role these often constraining and difficult contexts played in the fashioning of their multiple identities. Māori culturally responsive pedagogical theories are also drawn on to interpret the culture of the School for Teenage Parents, and its attempts to provide a supportive and affirming family or whānau environment for its students, in order to offer them more positive narrative possibilities of self and identity as young women, as learners and as young parents.

Abstract:
Essas ideias encontram contexto no ambiente cultural europeu e norte-americano do pós-Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Between 1959 and 1963 the Dutch architecture magazine Forum was edited by Dick Apon, Jaap Bakema, Gert Boon, Aldo van Eyck, Joop Hardy, Herman Hertzberger and Jurriaan Schrofer. The twenty issues produced by these editors, which included a final issue in July 1967, is a manifesto in slow motion, a coherent unity, with each issue adding a new chapter to the ‘Story of Another Idea’, the theme and title of the first issue of the new editors, which came out in September 1959 and was presented during the last CIAM meeting in Otterlo, and the subsequent full emergence of Team Ten. A magazine is not only a vehicle for images and ideas, but also a tangible printed product. The making of Forum, including its organizational and financial aspects, form a crucial part of its existence as well. While Forum is often considered as an outlet of Team Ten, in which Bakema and Van Eyck played a pivotal role, the editorial direction of the magazine was only very loosely connected to the discussions within Team Ten. The most striking parallel between the new Forum and Team Ten, aside from the involvement of Bakema and Van Eyck in both, was that each represented a consensual generational changing of the guards, a transition which was not only accepted but also actively stimulated by the older generation. The ideas of Forum circled around the central issue of dwelling, being at home and finding one’s place in the world, in line with the never completed Charter of Habitat, which CIAM members had tried to formulate since 1953. These ideas are contextualized in a West European and North American cultural climate after the Second World War.

Having been a Grade five and six homeroom teacher for nine years with eight years of tee-ball coaching experience, I have included tee-ball as an important part of my teaching as teamwork brings the students firmly together and exercise has turned into a universal language among students. As a result of perseverance, every student got on their own stage to shine, and hence I started writing the story of our class. This research was compiled in the form of narration and inquiry, collaborated with acquiring papers and participating observation for data collection. It presents the insight of the representative team’s teacher along with tee-ball promoting experiences by the means of a memoir and interviews. This research examined the data using Triangulation method in order to avoid subjective analysis and bias. Data resources include teaching journals from the teacher’s point of view, student dairies and consultation notes of the students, and interview remarks from the coach’s and parents’ perspectives. Through this research, it becomes evident that it takes a class manager’s multidimensional considerations to run a class as well as a sport team. Moral conducts, competence and social skills are the crucial elements in maintaining a group. Furthermore, it also manifests the class manager’s endeavour and the team leader’s discreet planning that put the team through a solid and steady learning process which also disclosed an inseparable bonding among partners.

The study investigated the application of Paired Story Mapping (PSM) to enhance English reading comprehension in terms of its processes and effects. Ten vocational high school students were grouped into five pairs, each containing a more proficient reader and a less proficient one. Before the intervention, each participant had to do a retelling task. The intervention of PSM for each pair included three phases: instructional, lead-in, and independent phase. After the intervention, each participant received a post-intervention retelling task and a semi-structured interview. The data collected included verbatim transcriptions of videotaped performances in interventions, retellings and interviews, working sheets and reflective journals. Data analysis aims to discover the patterns of the students’ collaboration during the process of PSM, the students’ improvements in reading comprehension and the students’ responses to the intervention of PSM. Results of the study included three parts. First, two types of collaboration (dependence and complement), three patterns of joint comprehension (full comprehension, partial comprehension and incomprehension), and a model of collaboration were established to account for the students’ collaboration during the process of PSM. Second, after the intervention, the students became more engaged in reading, comprehended more and better, and improved in organizational and meta-cognitive abilities. Third, the students were aware of their own growth in reading ability and expressed fondness for the intervention of PSM. Based on these findings, pedagogical implications and suggestions for future research are put forward. Abstract:
The Introduction begins with an overview of the Renegade dance’s popularity and the major players who made the dance challenge go viral—namely, TikTok sensation Charli D’Amelio who is the app’s most-followed account, and Georgia teen Jalaiah Harmon who created the dance but wasn’t given any credit for it until the Dubsmash community mobilized around her. The story of the Renegade dance challenge, D’Amelio, and Harmon serves as an entry point into a conversation about the teen artists of color in this book, whom the book labels “Renegades.” Riffing off the viral “Renegade” dance to K-Camp’s “Lottery,” the book reappropriates the term to embody the nuanced ways that Dubsmash users, or self-professed Dubsmashers, use digital hip hop culture and platforms to push again the pervasive Whiteness in mainstream US pop culture, as evidenced on apps such as TikTok. Renegades take up visual and sonic space on social media apps to self-fashion identity, form supportive digital communities, and exert agency to take up space that is often denied to them in other facets of their lives. The Introduction continues with a review of extant literature in social media and youth identity formation, with a particular focus on how Black teens engage with digital spaces. From there, it lays the groundwork for a theory of “Renegades.”

Abstract:
This chapter describes the research process, from survey data collection to family ethnography. It details the ethnic geography of the Chicagoland Korean American community through ethnographic observations of the churches, neighborhoods, social service agencies, and schools that mattered in the lives of the Korean Americans in the book. The survey included 204 Korean American teens and 102 parents, from whom five families were selected and followed. The chapter briefly discusses what the survey revealed about how the Chicagoland Korean American parents and teens viewed individual and family well-being. Among Korean American teen, their perception of how well their family was functioning correlated highly with their individual psychological distress and wellness. However, although the survey responses did reveal glimpses of parent-child acculturation gaps and individual distress, the survey findings did not conform very well to the familiar story of a generational gap in acculturation between parents and teens as the primary driver of family or individual difficulties. Whereas the survey gives a broad brushstroke picture of Korean American families with teens, it also left many intriguing questions to be answered. The chapter ends with a description of how the families were selected for intensive and long-term follow-up.

Abstract:
Introduction. The study presents a preliminary model of teen engagement with data in the context of data literacy activities at the public library. The model contributes to knowledge in the area of human data interaction, specifically as relates to the affective domain, to data literacy, and to the special context of informal learning at the public library. Method. The study takes a critical data literacy stance and is framed by theory about interest and engagement drawn from the field of informal learning. Analysis. Data analysis was inductive and iterative, proceeding through multiple stages. Open coding of feedback forms and the observation notes from twenty-seven data literacy workshops for teens revealed facets of teen engagement with data in the public library. Results. Feedback forms completed by teen participants suggest high interest and engagement with data during the data literacy activities. Themes derived from analysis help to tell the story of youth engagement with data literacy at the public library, including: personal connections to data, embodied learning, interactions with data through facilitation techniques (analogy as one such example), opportunities for inquiry and discovery, social arrangements that encourage interaction, and adopting a playful attitude to learning. Conclusions. Future research in youth data literacy programmes at the public library should further explore the variables of engagement identified in this study.

Abstract:
The classical approach to storm statistics in the ocean is an Eulerian analysis of wave time series at a given location, in which the wave data can be observations or results of wave models. The information obtained from this approach is storm frequency, duration and intensity, from which extremes at the particular location can be estimated. The availability of spatial information of wave characteristics at successive time intervals, which is available from large scale forecasts or hindcast allows the follow-up of storm evolution in space and time. Using this data it is possible to study the spatial evolution of storms, i.e to provide a Lagrangean description of storm characteristics. In this paper the principles for spatio-temporal identification and statistical analysis of storm variability are formulated. Using ten years of wave data the HIPOCAS North Atlantic hindcast data, storms were identified using both approaches and two different sets of storm characteristics were obtained. The enhanced information that is possible to obtain from the Lagrangean approach in comparison to the Eulerian is illustrated.

Abstract:
What is changing in the world so that the word “resilience” is so frequently used? 2015 marks the ten year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and the five year anniversary of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The Gulf Coast Community Design Studio has been working on the Mississippi Gulf Coast since Hurricane Katrina and their work provides the vantage point of this paper. The Gulf Coast Community Design Studio is an off-campus research and service center of Mississippi State University College of Architecture, Art and Design located in Biloxi, Mississippi. It was created to respond to Hurricane Katrina and has evolved from disaster response to long-term efforts of resilience. The design studio’s evolution is not an isolated story. It is part of a national move toward resilience.

Abstract:
A comprehensive assessment of emissions characteristics of the 1st, N and N+1 generation rich-dome combustion products has been done to identify the lowest emissions products. Focus of this paper is on the large rich-dome engines with its potential application for the (N+3) and (N+4) mixers with inspirational target takeoff NOxEI of 5 at 55 OPR. A total of ten engine models of the 1st generation were selected in addition to eight recently certified large engines. After evaluating several choices for conducting comparative assessment, the following three expressions were proposed for average takeoff NOxEI, idle COEI and HCEI entitlements, respectively: NOxEI L = 0.0288 × OPR 1.991 Idle COEI L = 815.36 Takeoff NOxEI L 1.159 Idle HCEI L = 0.15 × Idle COEI L - 2.0 In regard to application of the rich-dome technology to the (N+2) cycle based (N+3) mixers, the author tentatively gives it low probability of success barring success story stemming from Lee et al. [2012].

Full text
Abstract:
Background: Clear allergen communication in food business operators (FBOs) has been shown to have a positive impact on customers’ perceptions of businesses (Barnett et al., 2013). However, the precise size and nature of this effect is not known: there is a paucity of quantitative evidence in this area, particularly in the form of randomised controlled trials (RCTs). The Food Standards Agency (FSA), in collaboration with Kantar’s Behavioural Practice, conducted a feasibility trial to investigate whether a randomised cluster trial – involving the proactive communication of allergen information at the point of sale in FBOs – is feasible in the United Kingdom (UK). Objectives: The trial sought to establish: ease of recruitments of businesses into trials; customer response rates for in-store outcome surveys; fidelity of intervention delivery by FBO staff; sensitivity of outcome survey measures to change; and appropriateness of the chosen analytical approach. Method: Following a recruitment phase – in which one of fourteen multinational FBOs was successfully recruited – the execution of the feasibility trial involved a quasi-randomised matched-pairs clustered experiment. Each of the FBO’s ten participating branches underwent pair-wise matching, with similarity of branches judged according to four criteria: Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) score, average weekly footfall, number of staff and customer satisfaction rating. The allocation ratio for this trial was 1:1: one branch in each pair was assigned to the treatment group by a representative from the FBO, while the other continued to operate in accordance with their standard operating procedure. As a business-based feasibility trial, customers at participating branches throughout the fieldwork period were automatically enrolled in the trial. The trial was single-blind: customers at treatment branches were not aware that they were receiving an intervention. All customers who visited participating branches throughout the fieldwork period were asked to complete a short in-store survey on a tablet affixed in branches. This survey contained four outcome measures which operationalised customers’: perceptions of food safety in the FBO; trust in the FBO; self-reported confidence to ask for allergen information in future visits; and overall satisfaction with their visit. Results: Fieldwork was conducted from the 3 – 20 March 2020, with cessation occurring prematurely due to the closure of outlets following the proliferation of COVID-19. n=177 participants took part in the trial across the ten branches; however, response rates (which ranged between 0.1 - 0.8%) were likely also adversely affected by COVID-19. Intervention fidelity was an issue in this study: while compliance with delivery of the intervention was relatively high in treatment branches (78.9%), erroneous delivery in control branches was also common (46.2%). Survey data were analysed using random-intercept multilevel linear regression models (due to the nesting of customers within branches). Despite the trial’s modest sample size, there was some evidence to suggest that the intervention had a positive effect for those suffering from allergies/intolerances for the ‘trust’ (β = 1.288, p<0.01) and ‘satisfaction’ (β = 0.945, p<0.01) outcome variables. Due to singularity within the fitted linear models, hierarchical Bayes models were used to corroborate the size of these interactions. Conclusions: The results of this trial suggest that a fully powered clustered RCT would likely be feasible in the UK. In this case, the primary challenge in the execution of the trial was the recruitment of FBOs: despite high levels of initial interest from four chains, only one took part. However, it is likely that the proliferation of COVID-19 adversely impacted chain participation – two other FBOs withdrew during branch eligibility assessment and selection, citing COVID-19 as a barrier. COVID-19 also likely lowered the on-site survey response rate: a significant negative Pearson correlation was observed between daily survey completions and COVID-19 cases in the UK, highlighting a likely relationship between the two. Limitations: The trial was quasi-random: selection of branches, pair matching and allocation to treatment/control groups were not systematically conducted. These processes were undertaken by a representative from the FBO’s Safety and Quality Assurance team (with oversight from Kantar representatives on pair matching), as a result of the chain’s internal operational restrictions.
