Abstract:
Dilan 1990 is a teenage film with the highest number of viewers in 2018, which reached 6,315,664. The success of Dilan 1990 is inseparable from the culture industry's strength, which can mobilize public interest through reliable publication and marketing. The success of the film Dilan carrying the characters of Dilan and Milea as teen idols raises concerns about the identity of adolescents who are laden with violent symbols. This is because the content and theme of the story in the 1990s were constructed with Dilan's character, who liked to fight. For this reason, this study aims to analyze the construction of adolescent identity and social violence in the 1990 Dilan film. This research method uses a qualitative approach with an interpretative paradigm. Data Analysis Method uses narrative analysis of film subtitles with the Vladimir Propp analysis model. The unit of analysis in this study is the film Dilan 1990 (2018). Data collection techniques are conducted with text analysis, literature study, observation, and documents. This study concludes that social violence among adolescents is constructed in the cinema through adolescents' identity, both verbal violence and physical violence in the school environment and outside of school. Young men carry out social violence to young women who describe gender inequality, which refers to social violence due to cultural factors.

AbstractThe article traces the interpretation of the flood story in children's literature, from the apparently literal versions, in which imaginative reinterpretation is transferred to the illustrations, to the non-verbal crowded scenes of Peter Spier, the Midrashic retellings of Scholem Asch and Marc Gellman, feminist readings, like those of Bach and Exum, Madeleine L'Engle's teen novel, and versions which stress the annihilatory implications, including Janisch and Zwerger's Noah's Ark. It concludes with a discussion of Ruth Kerr's How Mrs. Monkey Missed the Ark, in which the canonical text is virtually eliminated, and only appears through the cracks.

Transgender minors are among the most vulnerable, discriminated against and disenfranchised of adolescents, and Australian law imposes a heavy yoke should they wish to begin treatment for gender dysphoria. Even with the full support of health professionals and parents, Australia takes the unique worldwide stance of requiring court approval. A way must be made to spare transgender teenagers from this fearsome, embarrassing and expensive court process. Informed consideration is important, but a multi-disciplinary tribunal could offer this, while minimising the stress and expense. Abstract:
In 1941, State Solicitor for Kildare Ronald Brown was charged with fourteen counts of gross indecency. The court records and his unusual life before and after the trial suggest that there is a story worth examining. In independent Ireland, the state was particularly concerned with adult same-sex desiring men corrupting teen boys. Brown’s government position, his lover’s age, and their intergenerational relationship all shaped the outcomes of this case. Although gross indecency cases ruined the lives of the implicated, including Solicitor Brown and his alleged lover Leslie Price, a close reading of the case material reveals a deep affection between a late adolescent boy and an adult man that would otherwise be invisible in a forcibly closeted mid-century Ireland.

Her debut feature Viaje a Tombuktú (2014) sets its 1980s teenage love story against a backdrop of political violence, while her latest production—an adaptation of the classic Peruvian novel, Un mundo para Julius—probes race, class, and gender inequalities in 1950s Peru.

Abstract:
This research examines the underlying ideology(s) of a TV program called ‘Film Television’ (FTV). This TV program is on during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Specifically, using framing analysis and gender perspective approach as a methodology, this research analyses the ways in which these ideologies developed in FTV. Six prime samples of FTV were chosen, namely Laki-laki Buaya Darat, Cowok Gue IQ-nya Ancur Banget, Cowok Gue Pendek Bener, Pacar honorer, Ganteng-ganteng Medit, Pacar Gue Brondong. The findings reveal a thrust of twin-contrarian thrust of messaging. There are two embedded ideologies underlying the FTV. First, the FTV production house carries a patriarchal ideology by raising themes that discriminate against women through stereotypes against women that appear in the story. Second, the FTV production house carries the ideology of feminism, with themes that position women as super-ordinates. Women occupy a higher social class than men. This finding of twin-contrarian ideological thrust offers an important contribution to the gender theoretical vacuum of Indonesian TV as an example of Asian teen romanticism in national TV programming during a global crisis. It has conceptual implication on the repertoire of social science knowledge, especially sociology particularly research on womens body and beauty, sociology of gender and media, and sociology of family.

Abstract:
Abstract—Norse Mythology is a mythology that originated in the Scandinavian region, which is the basis of all mythologies in the area. At this time, people's knowledge of Norse mythology was only obtained from films, and the adaptation was not in accordance with the original mythology. Submission of stories remains inauthentic due to additional characters that are not present in the original story, thus affecting the authentication of the mythology being conveyed. To educate the public about Norse mythology, interesting media are needed but can also convey a message by not changing the specific elements of the mythology. The survey was conducted on 53 teen respondents and fans of the Marvel franchise. From the survey results, 88% of respondents had never used a motion comic application, but were interested in trying a motion comic application. Through the survey results, a motion comic with the theme of Norse Mythology was made to fulfill the stated goals. The results of the design will be implemented and have several options, including Starting Story, Journal, and Credit. Start Story will start the story from beginning to end, with a mini game in the middle. The journal is a collection of information about the Ragnarok War, and the Credit contains the names of those who intervened in making the Ragnarok motion comic. The making of this motion comic uses several programs. The verification and validation stage is carried out after the implementation has been completed. This application can help teens and adults to understand the mythological story of the Ragnarok War, based on the results of the validation that has been done. Abstract:
William Shakespeare has been part of the cinema since 1899. In the twentieth century almost a thousand films in some way based upon his plays were made, but the vast majority of those which sought to faithfully present his plays to the cinema audience failed at the box office. Since the start of the twenty-first century only one English language film using Shakespeare’s text has made a profit, yet at the same time Shakespeare has become a popular source for adaptations into other genres. This essay examines the reception of a number of adaptations as gangster films, teen comedies, musicals and thrillers, as well as trans-cultural assimilations. But this very proliferation throws up other questions, as to what can legitimately be called an adaptation of Shakespeare. Not every story of divided love is an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. Different adaptations and assimilations have enjoyed differing degrees of success, and the essay interrogates those aspects which make the popular cinema audience flock to see Shakespeare in such disguised form, when films which are more faithfully based upon the original plays are so much less appealing to the audience in the Multiplexes.

Abstract:
At Swim, Two Boys, a 2001 novel by Jamie O’Neill, tells a story of gay teen romance in the wake of the Easter Rising. This paper considers the ways in which the characters engage in patterns of masculine behaviour in a context that excludes queer men, and the rhetorical effect of transgressive strategies to form a coherent identity. These patterns include involvement with the masculine and heteronormative nationalist movement, as well as a regime of physical exercise, and a religious upbringing in 20th-century Ireland. The strategies of broadening the practices of masculinity include their renegotiation and redefinition, as well as attempts to (re)construct the Irish and the gay canons of history and literature. These strategies, as exemplified by character development, become a rhetorical basis for the novel’s main argument for inclusiveness. This analysis deals with the central metaphors of space and continuity in the novel in the light of a struggle between identities. It also observes the tradition of parallels drawn between the emasculated position of the gay man and the Irish man at the beginning of the 20th century, and O’Neill’s rhetorical deployment of the shared telos in construction of a coherent gay Irish revolutionary identity.

Abstract:
My screenplay Aurorafollows a couple of high school students Dave and Aurora as they go out on their first date. With Dave being the high school nerd and Aurora being the popular girl, forming a bond obviously would not be easy. However, the story will peel back the layers of these two teenagers to the point that they realize that they are more than what their stereotypes suggest them to be. Since my work’s main idea revolves around stereotyping and how people use it as a way to identify a person’s character, hopefully it can emphasize to the audience the importance of not judging people based on their appearances without knowing them on a personal level. To be more specific, my screenplay will touch on stereotyping and how it shapes the main character Dave’s perspective of his own and other people’s self-identity. For that, I will use Charles Horton Cooley’s Looking Glass-Self theory to showcase its effect on the characters on both physical and psychological level. Set in a couple’s first date, the genre for my work will be teen romance. I see a lot of similarities in the genre’s convention and opposites-attract storyline with my screenplay’s subject matter of stereotyping.

Abstract:
This article explores new functions served by language varieties in fiction. Focusing our analysis on two types of texts in Indonesian – teen fiction and comics – we examine the interplay between standard and colloquial varieties to show how they are used together with non-verbal elements to promote youthful involvement. We identify three ways in which involvement is created in the texts: through free indirect discourse, non-verbal cues, and the gradual building of empathy indicated by shifting perspectives. We show that shifts from narrator’s to character’s perspective are shifts in alignment. By shifting to colloquial language, the narrator aligns their perspective with that of both the character and the reader, thus blurring the divisions between them. Non-verbal cues can also signal a shift in narrator roles, from a teller to a keen commentator and interlocutor who directly addresses the reader and invites them to share story-world experience. The frequent shifts between varieties represent a new style of writing which gives salience to the role of narrator as agent with a double persona: an anonymous agent who tells the reader about the characters in relation to the unfolding events, and an agent-participant who makes their presence known to the reader through direct address and evaluative commentary.

Abstract:
Digital stories are short videos that use narrative structures to address issues from a personal perspective. They have been used to educate populations about health topics, including teen pregnancy, cancer screening, and substance abuse. Social determinants of health and structural inequalities are known contributors to health inequity and are a set of fundamental concepts for public health students to understand, particularly within local communities. To address this issue, a digital story was created by an instructor of undergraduate and graduate public health courses with both the instructor’s personal narrative and commentary when driving between adjacent racially segregated neighborhoods in a suburb near where she lives. The health disparities and the connection between place and health were highlighted in the narration. Public health students at a university that borders the communities featured were shown the video, pre- and posttests were administered ( n = 119) and a paired t test was performed to measure differences in the students’ knowledge about social determinants of health. An open-ended question about the video was also analyzed. Students demonstrated increased understanding of social determinants of health ( p < .001), local health inequity ( p < .001), and residential segregation ( p < .000). Qualitative responses indicated that students had seen these differences in local neighborhoods but were unaware of the connection between residential segregation and health. Digital stories, particularly rooted in local neighborhoods, can be an effective way to educate undergraduate and graduate students about social determinants of health.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper identifies América Vicuña, the name given to the ill-used Lolita of García Márquez's Love in the Time of Cholera, as a reference to Laura Vicuña (1891–1904), a turn-of-the-century Chilean teen declared venerable (the sainthood process's third-to-last step) by Pope John Paul II in the same year as Cholera's publication (1985). About the author, the allusion's identification reveals these facts: his continued animus against the Catholic Church, in particular, the pique raised in him by the Church's sexual ethics; also, the allusion points up the centrality and durability of the issue of desire's burden in the shelf of his work, as well as the likelihood that his focus on this issue diverts his otherwise remarkable vision. As regards the book, the allusion's pursuit calls into question the América Vicuña episode's most circulated interpretation, wherein América's lethal affection for her grand relative, the Old World's arch-romantic, and the old man's exploitation of that affection are thought to represent the "destruction which over the centuries has been wreaked on the (female) body of America by various predators, domestic and foreign alike" (Fiddian). To the contrary, in the allusion's light it is clear that América is neither charmed nor exploited by the Old World's courtly deceptions. Instead, her spontaneous sexual behavior bespeaks the author's effort to wreck inherited literary notions of female sexual discretion, just as the same behavior, with a saint's name pinned to it, bespeaks his intention to mock the Church's chastity ethic.Lastly, the paper argues that García Márquez's understanding of the Laura Vicuña history as a death-rather-than-sex parable is regrettably narrow. Focused on the Church's sexual ethics, he fails to see that her story is also about caste and about the struggle between civilization and barbarism on the nineteenth-century Latin American frontier; about female self-determination, and about a woman's right to keep and/or share her body as she sees fit. In short, the story is about themes handled by works descriptive of her proximate historic reality, among them, Orrego Luco's Casa Grande, Sarmiento's Facundo, Jorge Icaza's Huasipungo, Allende's House of the Spirits.

Abstract:
Abstract Transformative experiences can happen at unexpected times, in unexpected ways. This paper tells the story of how a gift of a goat can lead to the transformation of a life. Many organisations globally are engaged in a struggle to overcome poverty and injustice by providing livestock as a means for transformation. The animals in themselves are not enough for the transformed lives; they can be a valuable starting point. In the Uluguru Mountains in Tanzania, a Tanzanian and a Norwegian together took one such initiative in order to support teen-age orphans, one of the most vulnerable groups in the community who were struggling to survive. As practitioners and researchers, the four authors had been taking part in the development of the Mgeta Orphan Education Foundation (MOEF), which had developed through action learning/action research. Selected students received a goat and training, and the opportunity to join and develop a network of orphans throughout the region. In this article, we discuss the benefits and challenges the orphaned youngsters face when joining the foundation. How do they benefit from having the goat and what are the challenges, how do they learn and how do they contribute to fellow farmers in their communities? We claim that many of the students have experienced transformation, and provide examples to give evidence of this claim. However, the students are not the only ones who are transforming; so are we who, as co-researchers, have had the opportunity to play a role in and witness their efforts.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore apparel-related issues experienced by plus-size female teens around the functional, expressive, and aesthetic consumer needs model. The goal was to uncover any issues which have interfered with or restricted apparel purchases. Design/methodology/approach – A mixed methods research design was employed to collect body measurements with the use of a 3D body scanner and conduct in-depth interviews with a convenience sample of 30 plus-size females aged 12-17 years and their families. Findings – The current US sizing system does not fully meet the measurement needs of this study group. Functional fit requirements often dictate the apparel purchased by plus-size female teens. Expressive and aesthetic desires often go unfulfilled by the apparel that satisfied their functional needs. Confusion over apparel size designations interfered with brand and store loyalty and resulted in fewer purchases from both physical and online stores. Practical implications – Plus-sizes are the fastest growing segment of apparel and offer brands and retailers substantial opportunity for market growth. Plus-size female teens desire to increase their apparel purchases, but have been hindered by certain product development and merchandising practices. Participants made suggestions for brands and retailers to increase sales in the plus-size female teen market. Originality/value – This study is unique by uncovering previously unknown issues regarding apparel fit and purchase behaviors of the plus-size female teens as well as relating participant’s advice to the apparel industry on this target market.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Adolescents and young adults with HIV are a unique population given the distinct psychosocial challenges of their age-group coupled with having a stigmatizing disease. In 2018, approximately 1.6 million adolescents were living with HIV worldwide, with the highest HIV prevalence found in Eswatini. As this group struggles more than any other age-group with medication adherence, novel interventions that are peer-inclusive and empowering should be explored to support their treatment. Methods We piloted a theater camp to determine the impact of fostering creative expression amongst adolescents and young adults enrolled at our HIV clinic in Mbabane, Eswatini. A two-week camp was conducted in collaboration with a non-profit organization of professional teachers, actors, and musicians. We emphasized enrollment of patients struggling with medication adherence, teen mothers, and those on second-line antiretroviral treatment. Twenty individuals (ages 12-23) participated in self-expression activities, story development, and a final play performed for the community. To assess impact, we compared viral loads pre- and post- camp as well as surveyed participants on effect of participation on areas such as personal stigma, sense of community, and confidence. Results Of those who participated, 25% showed a substantial decrease and 10% a substantial increase in viral load after the camp (>0.1 log10 change). Those who completed the survey (n=18) felt the camp helped them with confidence (13/18), teamwork (13/18), and friendships (11/18). Quotes from participants reinforced this growing sense of community, confidence, and decreased personal stigma. One wrote “theater camp helped me know that I can do a lot of things in life to achieve my future goals although I am HIV positive” and another stated “it made me not feel sorry for being an HIV positive person.” Conclusion Our pilot program demonstrates creative arts programming has beneficial psychosocial effects, aids in community building, and potentially enhances the effectiveness of medical treatment. Further programs and studies should continue to investigate creative arts as an avenue for treatment support, self-expression, and community building among vulnerable populations such as adolescents and young adults with HIV. This paper explores how teens used storytelling during a yearlong, extracurricular documentary film project. The project invited a group of 8-12 teens and university researchers to act as visual narrative inquirers in a local historic neighborhood. We explore the role of story, framing our project as a form of engaged pedagogy, and draw connections between storytelling and filming. We conclude that at the heart of the project is a shared dialogue. In this project, the scenario of filming enacted an encounter, and came to life through the stories the teens took in, and the stories they produced in response.

Abstract:
Present day reflection upon the burning questions of evil an violence increasingly dominate the agenda of modern society. Biblical scholarship can contribute meaningfully to this discourse by analysing biblical narratives in which the themes of violence and animocity occur. In this regard it becomes necessary to unmask the mechanisms of violence, and to examine the judgement of violence from a biblical-theological perspective. Violence and animocity are displayed very soon in the Old Testament. Genesis 4 recounts the well-known story of Cain and Abel. The story of the world’s first children turns out to be the story of the world’s firs murder. YHWH’s role in this process is of particular interest: his warnings (vss 6-7), his interrogation (vss 9-10), his sentence (vss 11-12) and his promise (vs 15). This article investigates Genesis 4:1-16 and focuses especially on the remarkable promise to Cain, the nature of Cain’s mark (vs 15) and the theological significance of YHWH as the keeper of Abel’s brother. Genesis 4 turns out to be a chapter with paradigmatic value for today.

Abstract Overcoming the reluctance of teenage learners to speak in the language classroom is a challenge for many teachers. This article reports on a study in which 60 Swedish pupils, aged 15–16, took part in a Storyline project based on a young adult fantasy novel. In the Storyline approach, a fictive world is created when learners, taking on the roles of characters in a story, collaborate on tasks to develop the story. A key feature is that the learners work in the same small groups for much of the time. During the six-week period of this study, these learners used English in a variety of speaking and writing tasks. The project showed a number of benefits, the most important of which were an increase in their motivation to speak English and enhanced self-confidence through doing so.

Abstract:
Abstract Formaldehyde is readily quantitated at fig/L levels in drinking water. The analyte present in 1 L water samples is derivatized with 2,4- dinitrophenylhydrazine in a 2M acid medium and then extracted with chloroform. After the solvent is exchanged for methanol, the product is separated and quantitated using reverse-phase liquid chromatography with UV detection (365 nm). Reporting limits as low as 20μg/L (corrected for laboratory blank) are routinely achieved. Formaldehyde recovery typically exceeds 90% at 20-200 μg/L. The method was applied to hot and cold water samples from thirty-four 1- and 2- story houses equipped with poly(acetal) plumbing elbows and tees. The drinking water samples were accompanied by sets of blanks and spikes specified by a quality assurance/quality control plan. Formaldehyde was observed above the reporting limit in 80% of hot and cold water samples from the 1-story dwellings, but in less than 50% of those from the 2-story dwellings. The results may depend on both the construction of the houses (1- vs 2-story) and the time of year the water is sampled (mid-summer).

This study analyzes the testimony given by Fort Worth City Councilman Joel Burns in response to the suicides of bullied teens. Like other testimonies included in the “It Gets Better” project, Burns’s speech included his personal story of being bullied because of his sexual orientation, considering suicide, and persevering to lead a successful adult life. His speech was given in a city council meeting in Texas, but his message reached a much wider audience. Drawing on the public modalities framework, this study employs narrative and discourse analysis to examine his story and the public reactions to it. The analysis focuses on the discursive invocation of emotion, multiple audiences, and the role of technology to engage publics. This analysis furthers research on how personal stories function in public meetings and serve as a modality to engage broader publics.

As a book lover, I always thought it seemed blasphemous when I declared, “I don’t like graphic novels.” In truth, I really hadn’t given them much of a chance. I always had assumed their format would be difficult for me to follow—sensory overload, of sorts.Of course I had been familiar with their popularity in my library—most pre-teens had asked for them. It made reader’s advisory a bit more challenging if I hadn’t read any, so I finally cracked one open—I started with Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson. The story really drew me in; I grew up in the 1970s, when roller derby was televised (and my parents let me watch it!). I was absorbed in the story, and by the time I was done, well, I guess I had read my first graphic novel!
