Abstract:
Teenagers are particularly susceptible to conformity and apparently self-confidence plays a significant role in how teenagers make individual choices.Drawing on the relevance between the two, this creative project explores today’s teenagers’ manner on conformity and assesses how teenagers’ self-confidence is related to their decision to conform or not to conform. To understand how self-confidence and conformity relate to each other deeper, I use Herbert Kelman’s theory of the three processes of attitude change in conformity and Mastuti’s theory of self-confidence on self-confidence. This creative project is two plays of 30 minute play which explores about the same issue but is seen from different angle of perspectives. Behind the Mask focuses on how a teenager who has lack of self-confidence conforms to her peer group while Look Me in the Eye focuses on how a teenager who has self-confidence conforms to her peer group.Showing different angle of perspectives help me conveying my purpose of writing the plays which is to help teenagers understand that conformity in daily life is inevitable and how their self-confidence plays an important role so that they will not get influenced by conformity easily. For the genre, the plays use realistic drama as the genre conventions suit the style of my plays which portrays a conflict that happens in teenagers’ daily life in a realistic way.

Abstract:
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that affects the physical condition and the individual's psychological. Lupus makes teenagers tend to have low subjective well-being. One of the intervention methods to improve personal well-being is through expressive writing. This research aims to observe the effectiveness of expressive writing to improve teenagers' subjective well-being with lupus. This research used one group pretest post-test design involving four people as the subjects (N=4). The data were collected using the measurement tools of Scale of Positive and Negative Experience (SPANE), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), interview, observation, and the results of the writing of the subjects during the therapy session. The results of the experimental research were in the form of quantitative analysis with the data analysis technique of the K-related sample test, showing no significant change to the scores of the subjective well-being among the subjects after given the therapy of expressive writing. However, the qualitative results showed that definitive writing therapy could be a catharsis media for teenagers with lupus. Therefore, we can conclude that expressive writing is less effective in improving subjective well-being but can be used as a catharsis media for teenagers with lupus.

Abstract:
This article examines the impact of the sociodemographic profile (including age, gender, and educational track) of Flemish adolescents (aged 13–20) on lexical aspects of their informal online discourse. The focus on lexical and more “traditional,” print-based aspects of literacy is meant to complement previous research on sociolinguistic variation with respect to the use of prototypical features of social media writing. Drawing on a corpus of 434,537 social media posts written by 1,384 teenagers, a variety of lexical features and related parameters is examined, including lexical richness, top favorite words, and word length. The analyses reveal a strong common ground among the adolescents with respect to some features but divergent writing practices by different groups of teenagers with regard to other parameters. Furthermore, this study analyzes both standardized versions of social media messages and the original utterances (including nonstandard markers of online writing). Strikingly, different results emerge with respect to adolescents’ exploitation of more traditional versus digital literacy skills in relation to their sociodemographic profile, especially with respect to sentiment expression (verbal versus typographic/pictorial). The study suggests that the inclusion of nonverbal communicative strategies, for instance in language teaching, might be a pedagogical asset, since these strategies are eagerly adopted by teenagers who show proof of less developed traditional writing skills.

I flesh out the stakes involved in correcting, repurposing, or capitalizing on nostalgic remembrances of the communist past, which are or may be passed on to children by their parents who grew up under communism, paying close attention to expectations from and pressures on the family as a privileged site of memory transmission.

ABSTRACTThis study investigates the hypothesis of young people having the multi-skills required to switch between formal and informal communication. We collected samples of the written output of students across different media and communication situations. The results obtained through dictation tests show that the students’ level is relatively low, with a majority of grammatical errors. The analysis of linguistic forms common to the corpora indicates that all the participants use traditional spelling in at least one of them. Lastly, we present a qualitative analysis of spelling variation and an overview of the teenagers’ linguistic representations.

Abstract:
AbstractThe present study examines adolescents’ attitudes and perceptions with respect to writing practices on social media. It reports the findings of a survey conducted among 168 Flemish high school students with various socio-demographic profiles. The survey examines linguistic attitudes and awareness of sociolinguistic patterns in computer-mediated communication, as well as relevant language skills. Moreover, the present paper uniquely combines the study of both adolescents’ perceptions and their production of informal online writing, as the participants’ responses to the survey are compared to their peers’ actual online writing practices. The respondents appear to have a fairly accurate intuition with respect to age and gender patterns in social media writing, but much less so with respect to education-related patterns. Furthermore, while typical chatspeak phenomena are easily identified as such, ordinary spelling mistakes often are not. Strikingly, the teenagers do not claim a high standard language proficiency, although they do state to care about standard language use in formal contexts. Finally, some significant differences were found between participants with distinct socio-demographic profiles, e. g. girls and highly educated teenagers appear to be more sensitive to the potential negative connotations of linguistic features and that sensitivity seems to increase with age.

Abstract To facilitate the learning of writing of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in a setting that is inclusive, it is instructive to examine writing difficulties from a strength-based perspective by looking at the meanings students give to writing activities. This qualitative study explored the meanings and motives for writing of two 14-year-olds with ASD through their writing activities both in and out of school. Data were collected through interviews and filmed participant observation. The data analyses were cross-referenced to understand the students' motives for writing. This study suggests that bridges can be created between students' motives for writing in school and out of school. Our findings pave the way to new approaches in teaching writing in schools.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis of written language of adolescents and young people with hearing impairment in the virtual space. The study involved 28 people, aged 16 to 20 years, 14 of them were with hearing impairments. 3 people at the age of 16 years old, 9 people are 17 years old, 4 people are 18 years old. The first part of the study was conducted as online questionnaires, which was aimed to clarify preferred virtual spaces for communication, the attitude to the written communication, also creative tasks for evaluation of written language developed by O.V. Vilenskaya was included. The second part consisted of analysis of the contents of the social network profile of the participants. The results have shown that the written language of deaf adolescents and young people in social networks reflected the general features of their verbal communication and social relations (in general, they use less detailed written statements than hearing peers do, less actually initiated written language, less flexible writing, less partners for communication in social networks, the prevalence of consistency errors). Nevertheless, it is significant that they appreciate the importance of writing and try to monitor its accuracy. Virtual communication in the life of young people with hearing impairments plays the same role as in the life of hearing peers and they successfully master this side of modern reality.

Abstract In a large corpus (2.9 million tokens) of chat conversations, we studied the impact of Flemish adolescents’ social background on non-standard writing. We found significant correlations between different aspects of social class (level of education, home language and profession of the parents) and all examined deviations from formal written standard Dutch. Clustering several social variables might not only lead to a better operationalization of the complex phenomenon of social class, it certainly allows for discriminating social groups with distinct linguistic practices: lower class teenagers used each of the non-standard features much more often and in some cases in a different way than their upper class peers. Possible explanations concern discrepancies in terms of both linguistic proficiency and linguistic attitudes. Our findings emphasize the importance of including social background as an independent variable in variationist studies on youngsters’ computer-mediated communication.

This ethnographic study, a component of another study that examined the lived experiences of a small group of pregnant teenagers, focused on the social and learning environment of an alternative school program for pregnant and parenting female adolescents, aged 13 to 19. Field notes, participant observation, group discussion, and informal conversational data were gathered over a 16-week period. Analysis of the data revealed four major themes: nurture and positive regard, sisterhood and belonging, mentoring and sense of family, and proactive learning environment and academic pride. The girls who attended the program developed close relationships with their peers and teachers. Many of them experienced academic success for the first time and reported that pregnancy and impending motherhood motivated them to do better in school. Recommendations for a more comprehensive school-based approach to meeting the needs of pregnant and parenting teens are made, particularly after the babies are born.

Abstract:
Teenagers have a close relationship of complicity with television, tainted by narcissism: only exist for them evident, agreeable and gratifying things. A serious and useful analysis requires outlining the profile of the teenagers today, as well as the environment of relationships, interaction and communication. Spare time defines a new level of consumption in Media which the school is far away to assume. Media literacy develops reading and writing kills. It is not merely a matter of analyze on a critic way the messages, media and television products, but also to create platforms for production. Educators, youngsters, students, social workers and journalists create a network which ensures media literacy. The eyes of the youngsters are glued to the television screen, and the environment of the school has to be the place for dialogue and analysis of this consumption. School and leisure time need to build the necessary bridges so that the youngsters may become critical citizens and participate in a healthy audiovisual consumption.

Abstract:
Abstract For many years in ELT methodology the questions of teaching writing in ELT coursebooks have been given much attention in terms of its nature, differences between written and spoken speech, ELT objectives and approaches to teaching writing, types of writing genres, writing assessment. But one rather neglected area in that regard is a graded teaching of creative writing to FL learners. The fifteen-year experience with organizing language-and-culture competitions launched by the Research Centre “Euroschool” for foreign language /FL/ students across Russia have proved that even intermediate FL learners, not to speak about advanced students are quite capable of writing in a FL: a) poems and songs expressing their ideas about teenagers’ lifestyle & visions of contemporary world; b) short stories describing family and school life experiences of their own or their peers; c) essays based on their comparative study of native and foreign cultures; d) presentations of Russian culture & other cultures of the Russian Federation in an English environment while being on exchange visits; e) translations of English poetry, short stories, excerpts from humours books, stripes of comics. The paper compares teaching creative writing in Russian and English, discusses the questions arisen from the outcomes of the language-and-culture competitions, arguing that effective teaching of creative writing presupposes: 1) teaching a FL in the context of the dialogue of cultures and civilizations, 2) introducing creative writing into a FL curriculum, 3) designing a package of thought-provoking teaching materials aiming at developing communicative, intellectual & mediating learners’ powers, 4) applying appropriate assessment scales for observing the dynamics of learners’ development as creative writers, 5) marrying students’ bilingual and crosscultural/ pluricultural classroom activities stimulating their participation in language-and-culture competitions.

Social media provides opportunities for users to express their thoughts and feelings through writing, pictures and videos. The rich features of this platform make Instagram the most preferred platform for adolescents, including teenagers in Indonesia. Various activities can be done through Instagram such as building friendships, seeking information and entertainment. The phenomenon of communicating online especially on Instagram can be observed through self-penetration theory that observes the closeness of relationships through communication intensity. Informants' preference for using Instagram gives them opportunities to build more intense relationships to meet their needs. The purpose of this study was to analyze the character of Instagram users on the activities of adolescent girls. This research was conducted using qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach. Data collection is done by in-depth interviews, observations and scientific references. The informants of this study were teenage girls in Bandung City and Regency who used Instagram for at least one year. The results showed that the activities of female teenage informants on Instagram were searching, stalking and posting. The meaning of Instagram for female teenage informants is a medium of self-expression that is displayed through text, images, videos, to socialize, to get entertainment from information provided by Instagram, is also a medium for expressing feelings. The awareness of young female informants in their activities on Instagram social media is already well related to the social implications resulting from the production and dissemination of messages on Instagram. Abstract:
It is crucial for families and professionals to promote basic instrumental skills in children with autism, as these skills can help with comprehensive growth and development, and are a starting point in acquiring the essential tools needed for one to live an independent and successful life. These skills include oral language, reading, writing, and mathematics. Therefore, given that ICT and mobile applications (apps) are effective tools that offer suitable content, and are designed exclusively for people with this disorder, working on these skills with apps is an interesting option that is worthy of our attention. We analyzed 88 apps that focused on these skills, through a duly validated system of indicators, calculating frequencies, percentages, measures of central tendency and dispersion, and non-parametric contrast statistics. The app search was carried out in the Google Play Store, with the keyword “autism”, in English and in Spanish. Most of the apps focused on aspects linked to oral language and reading, but few were aimed at reading and mathematics. In addition to the apps’ lack of specialization in the last two skills, the vast majority did not specify the age group for which their content was intended.

Abstract:
The writing skills of autistic university students have received very little empirical attention. Previous research has suggested that autistic people may struggle with writing, in part, due to challenges with Theory of Mind. However, other research indicates that Theory of Mind difficulties are far from universal in autism, varying across developmental and social contexts. Through a participatory research approach, autistic university students contributed to the current study examining the writing strengths and challenges of autistic ( n = 25) and nonautistic ( n = 25) university students. Autistic participants demonstrated more advanced writing skills, more perfectionistic attitudes about writing, and heightened nonverbal intelligence relative to nonautistic students. Autistic students did not exhibit reduced Theory of Mind skills. Although heightened nonverbal intelligence and being autistic were both initially predictive of writing quality, autism was no longer associated with writing quality after accounting for nonverbal intelligence. Findings suggest that autistic university students may often have enhanced cognitive and writing skills but may face challenges overcoming perfectionism. This research highlights the value of participatory collaborations with autistic students for identifying strengths that can help autistic students succeed in college. Lay abstract We do not know very much about the writing skills of autistic university students. Studies with autistic children and teenagers show that some autistic young people have difficulties writing. Other autistic people are talented writers. In fact, some autistic people would rather write than speak. Good writers often imagine other people’s points of view when writing. Autistic people sometimes have difficulties understanding others’ points of view. Yet, autistic people often work much harder to understand others’ points of view than not-autistic people do. We collaborated with autistic university student researchers to see if autistic university students are better or worse at writing than nonautistic students. Autistic university students in our study were better writers than nonautistic students. Autistic students in our study had higher nonverbal intelligence than nonautistic students. Autistic students also put themselves under more pressure to write perfectly than nonautistic students did. Autistic students did not show any difficulties understanding other minds. This study shows that some autistic university students have stronger writing skills and higher intelligence than nonautistic university students. Yet, autistic students may be too hard on themselves about their writing. Fun activities that help students explore their ideas without pressure (like theater games) may help autistic students be less hard on their writing. Teachers can help autistic students express themselves through writing by encouraging them to write about their interests, by giving them enough time to write, and by letting them write using computers if they want to. This study shows that collaborations with autistic people can help us understand strengths that can help autistic people succeed.

Abstract:
This article is a report based on a qualitative study on the skills needed for junior high school students to produce written compositions in the context of creating a short message. This kind of research has been made necessary by the implementation of an obligatory exam for junior high school graduates, including a writing part in which there are some requirements to be met in order to obtain a positive grade. Although the recent educational reforms mean that junior high schools will no longer exist, this research is useful in the diagnosis of the writing skills of Polish teenagers that will be going into high school. The results have shown that the students had no major problems with such requirements as text organization, punctuation rules and with keeping to the word limit for a given written composition. On the other hand, however, the students showed the need for improvement in formal aspects of the written English language such as grammar, vocabulary accuracy and spelling and transition signals. Additionally, the meeting of requirements mentioning and developing three elements should be practiced more. For the purpose of the study, an analysis sheet has been implemented but no hypotheses have been put forth. The research group included 33 written compositions.

Abstract:
Abstract The study investigates the linguistic basis of Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) levels in English as a foreign language (EFL) learners’ writing. Specifically, it examines whether CEFR levels can be distinguished with reference to syntactic complexity (SC) and whether the results differ between two groups of EFL learners with different first languages (Sindhi and Finnish). This sheds light on the linguistic comparability of the CEFR levels across L1 groups. Informants were teenagers from Pakistan (N = 868) and Finland (N = 287) who wrote the same argumentative essay that was rated on a CEFR-based scale. The essays were analysed for 28 SC indices with the L2 Syntactic Complexity Analyzer and Coh-Metrix. Most indices were found to distinguish CEFR levels A1, A2, and B1 in both language groups: the clearest separators were the length of production units, subordination, and phrasal density indices. The learner groups differed most in the length measures and phrasal density when their CEFR level was controlled for. However, some indices remained the same, and the A1 level was more similar than A2 and B2 in terms of SC across the two groups.

Abstract:
Background: Teenagers in Indonesia have an open nature and satisfy their desire to exist by uploading photos or videos and writing posts on Instagram. The habit of uploading photos, videos, or writings containing their personal information can be dangerous and potentially cause user privacy problems. Several criminal cases caused by information misuse have occurred in Indonesia. Objective: This paper investigates information privacy concerns among Instagram users in Indonesia, more specifically amongst college students, the largest user group of Instagram in Indonesia. Methods: This study referred to the Internet Users' Information Privacy Concerns (IUIPC) method by collecting data through the distribution of online questionnaires and analyzed the data by using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM).Results: The research finding showed that even though students are mindful of the potential danger of information misuse in Instagram, it does not affect their intention to use Instagram. Other factors that influence Indonesian college students' trust are Instagram's reputation, the number of users who use Instagram, the ease of using Instagram, the skills and knowledge of Indonesian students about Instagram, and the privacy settings that Instagram has. Conclusion: The awareness and concern of Indonesian college students for information privacy will significantly influence the increased risk awareness of information privacy. However, the increase in risk awareness does not directly affect Indonesian college students' behavior to post their private information on Instagram.

Abstract:
The dynamic development of the information society and the omnipresence of ICTs has changed the work of Polish teachers. As a result of the expansion of digital forms, Polish teachers engage in various professional activities in cyberspace. The author indicated that Polish teachers have become extremely active on the internet, and she discussed the phenomenon of teacher blogs. A hugely interesting issue is the influence of blogs on teaching Polish in schools, and the development of teachers’ professional competences. The act of writing journals online may bring benefits for the digital school (by adapting teaching processes to the needs of tablet children and global teenagers, combining the methods typical for the technological revolution with traditional teaching tools). A review of blogs maintained on Facebook enabled the author to indicate various strategies of working with pupils, and the evolution of creative attitudes of Polish teachers.

Abstract:
The latest addition into Voprosy Literatury’s new section, ‘Only children’s books to read...’, this article by T. Solovyova takes a close look at works by the contemporary author L. S. Christensen, widely popular well beyond his native Norway. Christensen owes his fame to his deep yet unobtrusive psychologism, the ability to present children with a comprehensible picture of the story (or history, as his novels play out in a broad historical concept), as well as the motives and feelings of the characters. Such features of his writing style are displayed in his novels The Half Brother [Halvbroren] (2004), Chasm [Sluk] (2014), and Herman (2017), which combine stories about contemporary teenagers with an expansive historical background, familiarizing young readers with the major facts and tragedies of the 20th century. The critic analyses Christensen’s creative method, looking for mainstream elements typical of modern children’s books, as well as for the author’s unique touches.
