Full textSyftet med studien är att se om grundskollärare i en kommun i Uppsala län tar tillvara på den tillgång som TekNO kanske kan vara samt se hur lärare och elever ser på TekNO. Metoderna som använts är enkät och kvalitativ intervju. Studien bygger på frågeställningarna:
- Hur marknadsförs TekNO?
- Känner lärare i en viss kommun i Uppsala län till projektet TekNO?
- Använder sig lärare i kommunen av TekNO?
- Vad tycker lärarna om TekNO?
- Vad tycker eleverna om TekNO?
Resultatet visar att lärare och elever har positiva åsikter om TekNO:s arbete och att de lär sig nya saker av TekNO. Flertalet lärare i studien som undervisar i teknik och naturvetenskap vet vad TekNO är och har arbetat med något tema tillsammans med TekNO genom skolbesök. Samtliga lärare som har fått skolbesök av TekNO vill ha besök igen. Nittiosju procent av eleverna vill ha besök av TekNO igen. Undersökningen visar att lärare och elever anser att TekNO är ett positivt inslag i undervisningen.

Full textIPCC has estimated that the aviation industry is responsible for two percent of all man made carbon emissions (IPCC, 2007). An expected increase (ICAO, 2013) of this share puts the aviation industry in front of big challenges for the future. The main obstacle lies within how the industry can grow but at the same time decrease their carbon emissions. As a first step to meet this challenge this report examines a potential pilot plant in connection to Bromma Airport that will provide the airport with bio-jet fuel. The jet fuel will be produced through plasma gasification and through catalysation with biomass as raw material. The total production is assumed to be 50.000 tons of fuel per year, which would make Bromma Airport completely neutral with carbon emissions. The report focuses on the techno economical aspects of a plant and is aimed to investigate if the plant is profitable or not. The purpose of the report is to give a realistic image of the economical consequences for Swedavia AB in the event of setting up a pilot plant in connection to Bromma Airport. This is done by estimating the total investment- and production costs as well as by comparing the calculated competitiveness of the bio jet fuels with todays’ fuel prices. In order for the report to give a satisfactory image of the pilot plant from a techno-economical point of view the report also investigates possible financing models. The studys’ results have been ascertained by dimensioning the plant based on comparisons with a number of reference projects. The configuration of the plant form the basis of the calculations which have been done to estimate the fuel production, the need for raw materials, electricity production and consumption as well as the total investment- and production costs. To get results for the pilot plants profitability, a price for bio jet fuel and net present value (NPV) has been put together. The financing models, which have been developed and investigated, derives from information given by Swedavia AB, as well as comparisons with existing models from already existing projects. The result, which this study has accomplished, is that the pilot plant investment costs are expected to reach approximately 6440 MSEK. Production costs were calculated to be 1250 MSEK, which made the fuel price 6,1 SEK/liter. The NPV for the pilot plant, with the assumed yield requirements of nine percent, the operating time 8000 hours per year and the financial support from Energimyndigheten on 25 percent, was calculated to -285 MSEK with a payback time of 27 years. As the technical life was assumed to be 25 years it could be concluded that the pilot plant with these assumptions would not be profitable.

Full textIntelligente Transport Systemer (ITS) er løsninger som benytter seg av IKT for å bidra til mer sikkerhet og effektivitet i samferdselssektoren. En viktig faktor innen ITS er kommunikasjon mellom kjøretøy og mellom infrastruktur og kjøretøy. CALM er et standardiseringsprosjekt for kommunikasjonsteknologier, og CVIS er et fireårig prosjekt for å realisere en rekke mål innenfor ITS. Denne oppgaven presenterer og vurderer mulige teknologier som eventuelt kan benyttes for å realisere et kontinuerlig nettverk i et veisystem. Disse teknologiene sammenlignes i et tekno-økonomisk perspektiv. En vurdering av viktige utfordringer ved utbygging av kontinuerlig nett langs vei presenteres også. Basert på den teknologiske gjennomgangen, og utfordringer ved ITS-utbygging, er det gjennomført en case-oppgave som vurderer mulighetene for at Trondheim skal bli et teststed i CVIS-prosjektet. Denne oppgaven tar for seg veistrekningen Trondheim-Værnes. Forslag til ny infrastruktur for å nå noen av målsettingene i CVIS blir gitt, samt kostnadsestimater for Wi-Fi og WiMAX-utbygging. Resultatene av kostnadsberegningene viser at WiMAX vil være mer kostnadseffektiv som kontinuerlig nett mellom Trondheim og Værnes enn Wi-Fi. Å bygge ut UMTS og CDMA450-nett som gir like stor overføringshastighet som WiMAX og Wi-Fi er ikke kostnadseffektivt. Resultatene fra case-oppgaven, de generelle kostnadsestimatene og den teknologiske oversikten, brukes til å drøfte mulighetene for overføringsteknologiene i et ITS-system. Alle har sine styrker og svakheter. Det er derfor ikke mulig å peke på en overføringsteknologi som bør anbefales generelt, fordi rekkevidde, mobilitet og overføringshastighet har innebygde motsetninger. Eksisterende overføringsteknologier blir også sammenlignet med teknologier som kommer i nærmeste framtid, såkalte 4G-teknknologier. I et framtidsperspektiv ser det ut til å gå mot en samling med IP som transportbærer, og de fleste teknologier går mot forksjellige typer av OFDMA som multippel aksess-teknikk. Likevel ser det ut til at det blir flere og ikke færre nett-teknologier i nærmeste framtid. Alle fire eksisterende teknologier har videreføringer og forbedringer under utvikling. En viktig utfordring framover blir derfor å utvikle sømløs overgang mellom overføringsteknologier. Forbedringer i teknologier vil bidra til å øke nytten og potensialet til ITS.

Full textMore and more intermittent electric power is being built in Sweden today to increase the share of renewable electricity in the energy system. This leads to more uneven electricity generation, which creates problems in terms of more volatile and unpredictable electricity prices. One way to dampen the effect of the increasing intermittent power is to use renewable hydrogen production as load shedding. In this way, the hydrogen gas can potentially become an important part of the fossil-free energy mix. Using hydrogen as energy storage in a Power-to-Power application (P2P) also enables the use of price arbitrage in the electricity market. An increased climate focus has rekindled interest in how hydrogen production can be made profitable. Some signs that investments are taking place are that several countries are investing big money on hydrogen technologies and infrastructure, and collaborations across national borders have been established. This study aims to investigate the techno-economic prerequisites for renewable hydrogen production where the profitability of arbitrage on the Elspot market is explored. This comprises a thorough investigation of commercial technologies suited for Linköping’s energy system. Three cases where constructed with different component constellations. Then the operational strategy was optimised which generated a lower and upper price limit for production and conversion of hydrogen with input price data from Elspot. The optimisation tool in Excel was used in order to obtain these price limits. Visual Basic (VBA) was then used for storage simulation in order to get a perception of the storage development through all the hours of the year. The cost of every kilogram of hydrogen produced was then calculated through Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), which made the comparison of the three cases easier. The resulting greenhouse gas emissions when integrating the facilities in each case were also evaluated with a so-called impact analysis. The effect was compared in net emissions in carbon dioxide equivalents for an integration of each facility. The results show that there are commercial technologies that can be integrated with the existing energy system in a resource efficient manner, whereas the economic prerequisites are not as good, where today’s Power-to-Power (P2P) solutions are not profitable. The reason seems to be the combination of insufficient spot price fluctuations and a low system efficiency (14% at best) for each case. The annual revenues correspond to 1 percent of the annual costs and that LCOE lands at about 1500 SEK. A higher utilization percentage of the plant shows a lower LCOE in the investment calculation. The storage simulation indicates that a seasonal storage is needed for this type of facility because of that the spot price fluctuations are not big enough on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. The sensitivity analysis made on the investment calculation and operational strategy also shows that there is no profitability in the P2P cases where parameters regarding investment cost, efficiency and electricity price were set optimistically. The Power-to-Gas case on the other hand shows potential for profitability, all because of lower total investment costs and higher efficiency. All cases except the case with steam methane reforming shows reductions in greenhouse gas emissions when integrated in the regional energy system. The conclusion that can be drawn from the results in the case study is that, in spite of good technological prerequisites and a positive effect on local greenhouse gas emissions, a P2P-application with hydrogen storage cannot be made profitable in a Swedish context in the near future. However, a Power-to-Gas case shows potential for profitability because of its lesser investment cost and that the system efficiency is higher.

Full textSweden strives for a more and more sustainable society and aims to reach the net zero emissions of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere by 2045. Companies that operate in Sweden must therefore make major changes to achieve that goal. In this project, the possibility of replacing SSAB Borl¨anges fossil fuel needs in the hot-rolling process with gas from thermal gasification has been investigated. Through literature studies, needs analysis, calculations and modeling in Excel, four case studies with different gasification concepts have been evaluated. One major challenge has been to find solutions for handling the large heat loads in the hot-rolling furnaces. In the case studies, different strategies have been applied to address these; gas engines, balancing with a gasholder or upgrading to SNG that are stored in cryogenic containers. A case of purchasing biofuel-based liquid natural gas (bio-SNG) from external producers has also been evaluated. The technical feasibility as well as the financial stake and profit have been evaluated to find the best option. The case with the gasholder (Case 1b) showed the best economic performance with an IRR of 1.6%, a payback period of 21 years and manufacturing cost of 518 SEK/MWh. This is worse than the current solution, which costs 470 SEK/MWh. The most sensitive factors are the price of biomass and fossil fuels. The investment cost also has a great impact. A major advantage of the new solution is the reduction of SSAB’s use of fossil fuels with about 850 GWh being replaced by renewable gas.

Full textResearch on work-related stress shows that technology, technical systems and programs arefactors that may cause stress in the workplace. At the university, the development of technologyhas had a great influence, which creates challenges for teachers and the organization to integrateand manage technical changes in a healthy way. The aim of this study is to contribute to anincreased understanding of how teachers at universities are affected by technical systems andprograms, and how the implementation and use of the learning platform Canvas is experienced.Through a quantitative survey, empirical material was collected from 273 respondents. Thematerial was analyzed and compiled in diagrams and tables. The open question of the surveywas analyzed through content analysis. The results show that a higher proportion of the teachersexperience techno-overload, lack of time, high workload and overwhelming from email that wasdifficult to cope during office hours. The presence of techno-invasion, techno-complexity,techno-insecurity and techno-uncertainty is low among a higher proportion of the teachers butwas experienced by 20-30%. The results of the study also show a positive experience oftechnical support provision and a negative experience of the literacy facilitation andinvolvement facilitation with a large majority of the teachers. The implementation and use ofCanvas are perceived as negative by a higher proportion of respondents. Conclusions have beendrawn that, despite the low prevalence of technostress, there are factors that can adversely affectthe work situation, which should be further investigated and remedied. Universities should offerextended support, be able to set aside time and further training to achieve a more satisfiedimplementation and use of the platform Canvas.

Full textStrömavbrott, underdimensionerade elnät och förnybar energi är tre exempel där ett stationärt energilager kan tillämpas. I den här masteruppsatsen undersöks två typer av stationära elektrokemiska energilager; ventilreglerade bly-syra-batterier och litium-järnfosfat-batterier (LFP), för att finna det mer fördelaktiga alternativet i stationära applikationer. De två teknikerna analyseras i ett stort antal elnätsapplikationer i en tekno-ekonomisk studie. Kostnaden per levererad kWh av energilagret används som jämförelsebas vilken beräknas utifrån batteridegraderingsdata med avseende på C-rate, SoC, DoD, temperatur, lagringstid och cykelfrekvens för att estimera kalender- och cyklisk åldring. Modellering visar att inget av batterialternativen är överlägset i alla situationer men LFP är det mångsidigare alternativet. Bly-syra-batterier kan vara mer kostnadseffektiva för applikationer som kräver mindre än 1 (full-ekvivalent) cykel/dag vid temperaturer lägre än 30C, korta projektlivstider samt när batterilagren används bortom 80% EoL. Investeringskostnaden är lägre för bly-syra-batterier när likadan C-rate appliceras. Negligerade kostnadsposter kommer minska chanserna att bly-syra-batterier är det billigaste alternativet. Från ett hållbarhetsperspektiv är LFP nästan uteslutande den mindre energikrävande och mindre CO2-intensiva tekniken. Bly-syra-batterier har dock en klar fördel när det kommer till återvinningsbarhet.
