Full textThe subject concerns the management of the Information systems and Telecommunications. I propose a detailed description of various topologies of inter-connection and security. I propose a modelisation of the information processing systems, to study the behavior of the systems on models and not on the system itself. I present an innovating solution based on the concept of IP collect and Multi operator routing, using the XDSL technologies of infrastructure operators, to the router in a centralized site. I propose project guidelines and methodology intended to provide a common framework covering the control of the fundamental processes and their organizational and technical impacts on the deployment in companies

Full textThis work’s goal is to propose an optimized hardware/software partitioning algorithm. We work on the hypothesis that some specific features of certain published algorithms can be advantageously combined for the improvement of a base partitioning algorithm, and of its generated heterogeneous systems. The set of optimizations proposed for the achievement of this new algorithm encompass : generalization of candidate target architectures with the inclusion of FPGA’s for the partitioning, precise consideration of functions’ implementation costs and power consumptions in hardware, manipulation of systems with dynamically reconfigurable hardware, and consideration of multiple implementation alternatives for an application node in a given processor. These optimizations are implemented in successive versions of the proposed partitioning algorithm, which are tested with two signal processing applications. The partitioning results demonstrate the effect of each optimization on the achieved heterogeneous system quality

Full textThese works are a part of the MUSIC’s (Monolithic mUlti-Standard Integrated Components) project supported by the RNRT. The aim is the integration of small multiband antennas into a mobile handset to receive several communications systems. In the first part of this thesis, the study of a broadband circularly polarised antenna is described. The second part deals with the study ant the realisation of linearly polarisation antennas for the third generation of mobile phone. These elements must satisfy different criterions (broad and multiple bands, omnidirectional radiated field, small size) difficult to obtain simultaneously. Several techniques are used to achieve these characteristics like, stacked resonators, addition of short-circuit, shorting posts and slots. The simultaneous applying of some of these techniques has led to the elaboration of broadband antennas for DCS/PCSUMTS telecommunications standards, of prototypes associating two antennas laid on a small ground plane for GSM/DCS/PCS/UMTS standards, of dual and wide-band structures, especially one realised on a reduced ground plane for GSM/DCS/PCS/UMTS. Parametric studies have allowed the interpretation of physical phenomenon and the estimate of the influence of the different parameters. Several realisations have validated the structures steamed from simulations tools

Full textTime Hopping Impulse Radio Ultra Wide Band (TH-IR-UWB) systems are the object of the studies in this thesis. We first introduce the UWB principles and then propose new signalling schemes together with a synthetic comparison of the performances of different modulation possibilities. A key point in UWB performances is the Multi User Interference (MUI). In the first studies on UWB, MUI was supposed to be Gaussian. We see in our thesis that this hypothesis is not always true and that it overestimates UWB performances. By developing an impulse collision model, we propose a formula allowing a better estimation of the bit error rate. We also reveal a stochastic resonance phenomenon showing the unusual aspect of UWB interferences. Then we perform a detailed analysis of MUI, which allows us to work out the condition of Gaussianity and non-Gaussianity of the interfering signals. This results help in understanding MUI and, thanks to it, we may demonstrate the existence of a trade-off between the repetition factor and the frame length. Finally we propose a simple receiver adapted to the UWB MUI, which performances are greatly increased and may in some cases outperform the prevision of the Gaussian approximation which was considered to be too optimist before

Full textThe world of telecommunications converging towards IP, the telecommunication satellite systems have to follow the trend to stay competitive and to be integrated to the Internet world. We first remind the issues of convergence in satellite communications, then we list the different convergence architectures conceivable in satellite systems and describe the limits of current systems in term of IP convergence. Our choice is devoted to the IP/GSE architecture for the forward link. Then, we specify the GSE-Alt protocol, inspired from GSE but adapted to the return link. The deployment of new services and the evolution of existing services are possible and made easier thanks to the IP layer. Both layers GSE and GSE-Alt optimize the transport of the IP packets. In order to propose a communication support allowing various quality of service (QoS) needs, we specify several mechanisms allowing a great coherence of the quality of service treatments at the different protocol levels. Finally, to allow an interconnection and an integration of the satellite world to the Internet world, we study the requirements in term of IP routing deployment. Therefore, we specify an architecture allowing the satellite to make the switching at the IP level. This convergence of the satellite towards an "all IP" system is the base required to its transparent insertion to the rest of the telecommunication world

Full textThe optical fiber appears to be the only medium able to convey informations at rates exceeding 1Gb/s, owing to its large bandwidth. The DECT-GPRS and UWB radio technologies allow to transmit data streams in packet mode at high rates. Using an optical infrastructure to link the different access points (radio on fiber) leads to cost reductions in the high data rate networks deployment in the office environment. Our concern, in this thesis report, is with code division multiple access (CDMA). The aim of our work is to design a, performance enhanced and reduced complexity, multi-user receiver structure, based on the parallel cancellation of interferences, our solution is to introduce an interference weighting factor and/or an amplification factor for the detected user signal. A complete theoretical study, supported by simulations, is presented and the optical elements imperfections are taken into account, without omitting a comparison with classical pre-existing systems. Moreover, in order to ascertain the sharing of intelligent components of the DPRS interface to the optical network and dynamic resource supervision, an algorithm is presented for identification of the modulation types authorized by the ETSI standard, several possible solutions are depicted and a novel modulation detector is described, theoretically analyzed, optimized using simulations (thresholds, comparison with alternative solutions)

Full textThe current levels of integration of the integrated circuits make it possible to have SoC increasingly complex and multi-standards. Consequently, the problem of the interconnections between IP blocks is becoming a critical point that the current structures of communications do not achieve to solve. Thus, the solutions based on NoC offer good perspectives in terms of band-width and flexibility. This thesis deals with the proposition of a methodology of modelling and exploration of the architecture of network on chip. Thus, we propose a design methodology allowing to help the designer to select properly the various parameters characterizing the NoC in the way to reach the real time constraints of the application. A tool AAA makes it possible to carry out the adequacy of the constraints of the application on the architecture by minimizing the ways of communication and by respecting the theoretical band-widths of the communication bonds

Full textThis work is in keeping with the array processing for telecommunications systems. More particularly, it consists in the resolution of the scattered sources (also called spatially distributed sources) problems. For a distributed source, the receiver is likely to experience a spatially dispersed signal consisting of several arriving rays spread around some nominal direction. In this study we distinguish two types of sources : coherently distributed (CD) sources and incoherently distributed (ID) sources. For the CD sources, we first generalize several estimation techniques from the case of point sources to the case of CD sources. We then show that the exploitation of the non-circularity property allows to improve the estimation performance of the generalized techniques. Finally, we show that all these methods impose some not easily achievable conditions, and we propose practical solutions to mitigate these limitations. So as to localize the ID sources with unspecified antenna geometry we first propose a new beamforming technique as well as a simplified alternative in the case of a uniform linear array. We then solve an ambiguity problem of two covariance fitting methods initially proposed to estimate a single source. By considering one of the proposed solutions, we develop a new estimating technique for several ID sources. We also calculate the statistical performances of some estimation methods for both CD and ID sources

Full textRegarding the necessity of high rates transmission while guaranteeing a certain quality of service, MIMO systems (Multiple Input - Multiple Output) seem very promising. By using several antennas simultaneously at the both sites of communication link, these systems exploit the spatial dimension to transmit information. Thus the implementation of these techniques permits to achieve a substantial improvement of the data rate and the digital link performances. As in all system studies, a thorough analysis of the transmission channel and the associated propagation mechanisms proves to be essential. This is the context in which the work is presented in this document. This thesis deals with the design and the realisation of a powerful measurement system allowing a precise characterization of the MIMO propagation channel knowledge for the UMTS application

Full textThis dissertation presents works on telecommunication access networks optimization. The access network gather the traffic of clients in an area, before transmitting it to the core network. It is a hierarchical network with a central concentrator at the top, the clients at the bottom, and one or two layers of equipements. We focus on two applications : the optimization of the access of the telephone telecommunication network on a new territory, and the optimization of the installation of an optical access network while taking into account an existing infrastructure. For the first application, we propose to improve existing methods and we propose new ones in order to obtain good solutions for different kinds of instances. For the optical network, the problem is to connect the clients to the central concentrator using 2 or 3 layers of optical splitters. The objective is to minimize the global installation cost. We propose new models for the location of splitters and for the choice of cables. Some tests show that good solutions can be obtained on real instances for the location of splitters

Full textIn a connected world, interconnection of heterogeneous systems becomes a need. Systems of systems (SoS) answer to this need by providing global supervision and control over such systems, named sub-systems in the context of SoS. Some sub-systems face to a dynamic environment, therefore, they have to evolve in order to meet new requirements, and they have to perform adaptations whenever availability is a requirement. Main difficulty about evolution is it can concern a set of sub-systems, or a global vision such as one provided by system of systems. Therefore, the problems of evolution and adaptation are important. In the domain of software engineering, this thesis provides the R-* approach that defends the hypothesis that the more a system is Reflective, and the more it is able to adapt, and so, to evolve. Three major contributions and one use case justify R-*. R-DDS and R-MOM add reflective capabilities in asynchronous communication sub-systems, and R-EMS adds reflectivity on a global vision of a SoS, its sub-systems and its environment. R-DDS adds reflectivity to Data Distribution Service dedicated to real-time and embedded domains. R-MOM goes up in abstraction compared to R-DDS, in adding reflective capabilities at level of asynchronous middleware functionalities. R-EMS is a Reflective Environment Management System helping SoS use. Finally, use case and evaluation are done over a sub-model implementation of THALES’ SoS TACTICOS

Full textTelephone operators supply features in order to enable customers to compose their own packages of features. The requirements of these features are expressed separately. However, put altogether, these requirements can yied conflicts, the so-called interaction. To solve this issue, we propose a feature integration method to be used by anexpert. This method takes into account the detected feature interactions. This method is made up of a design step with tool support which precedes a validation step based on testin techniques. An instance of the design step is defined by means of a pre-post condition formalism. Properties that express potential interactions as non-determinism or invariant violation are at the origin of heuristics introduced for the interactions detection. Integration patterns that guide the expert are partly programmed in our tool and several case studies have been used to illustrate our method

Full textThe exploding HD video streaming traffic calls for deploying content servers deeper inside network operators infrastructures. Telco-CDN are new content distribution services that are managed by Internet Service Providers (ISP). Since the network operator controls both the infrastructure and the content delivery overlay, it is in position to engineer Telco-CDN so that networking resources are optimally utilized. In this thesis, we focus on the optimal resource placement in Telco-CDN. We first investigated the placement of application components in Telco-CDN. Popular services like Facebook or Twitter, with a size in the order of hundreds of Terabytes, cannot be fully replicated on a single data-center. Instead, the idea is to partition the service into smaller components and to locate the components on distinct sites. It is the same and unique method for Telco-CDN operators. We addressed this k-Component Multi-Site Placement Problem from an optimization standpoint. We developed linear programming models, designed approximation and heuristic algorithms to minimize the overall service delivery cost. Thereafter, we extend our works to address the problem of optimal video place- ment for Telco-CDN. We modeled this problem as a k-Product Capacitated Facility Location Problem, which takes into account network conditions and users¿ prefer- ences. We designed a genetic algorithm in order to obtain near-optimal performances of such ¿push¿ approach, then we implemented it on the MapReduce framework in order to deal with very large data sets. The evaluation signifies that our optimal placement keeps align with cooperative LRU caching in term of storage efficiency although its impact on network infrastructure is less severe. We then explore the caching decision problem in the context of Information Cen- tric Network (ICN), which could be a revolutionary design of Telco-CDN. In ICN, routers are endowed with caching capabilities. So far, only a basic Least Recently Used (LRU) policy implemented on every router has been proposed. Our first contri- bution is the proposition of a cooperative caching protocol, which has been designed for the treatment of large video streams with on-demand access. We integrated our new protocol into the main router software (CCNx) and developed a platform that automatically deploys our augmented CCNx implementation on real machines. Ex- periments show that our cooperative caching significantly reduces the inter-domain traffic for an ISP with acceptable overhead. Finally, we aim at better understanding the behavior of caching policies other than LRU. We built an analytical model that approximates the performance of a set of policies ranging from LRU to Least Frequently Used (LFU) in any type of network topologies. We also designed a multi-policy in-network caching, where every router implements its own caching policy according to its location in the network. Compared to the single LRU policy, the multi-caching strategy considerably increases the hit- ratio of the in-network caching system in the context of Video-on-Demand application. All in one, this thesis explores different aspects related to the resource placement in Telco-CDN. The aim is to explore optimal and near-optimal performances of various approaches

Full textThis thesis addresses the error control problem for satellite links from the perspective of cross-layer design. At the crossroads of qos-related constraints, devices complexity and efficient spectrum use, error control is indeed a key aspect of wireless communications - particularly crucial in the satellite context - where cross-layer enhancements can play an important role. After a thorough introduction to cross-layer design, the first part of this work focuses specifically on the error control strategy of early DVB satellites, where redundancies between the channel decoder and the adaptation layers are set to light in order to propose a joint bandwidth-efficient error control policy. The focus then moves to second-generation DVB satellites and the definition of the novel, IP-centric and cross-layer friendly GSE encapsulation protocol, where results from the aforementioned study were successfully applied. Finally, a whole new cross-layer framework called HERACLES is introduced, offering efficient and overhead-free error correction capabilities for almost any layer of a protocol stack and being patented at the moment of writing these words. The results of the overall work show the strengths of an integrated approach to error control, and open the way for innovative cross-layer mechanisms to be deployed in next-generation communications networks

Full textToday the use of satellites has become essential for a host of activities. To put a satellite system in place requires extensive investments, secured by watertight loans. The space system (frequencies, orbital slot, code) is used in order to secure the lenders. These guarantees are not really adapted to this industry: indeed, how repossess an orbital satellite? More classical guarantees like collateral or mortgage on the real estate, the bank accounts, the commercial contracts, the insurance policies of the special purpose vehicle, are asked either to protect the lenders, as well as guarantees given by States, credit export agencies (COFACE), or international organizations (IFC). However, most industrials countries realized the necessity and the helpfulness of an international convention in this particular field. The UNIDROIT convention on international interest in mobile equipment and its preliminary draft protocol on space assets may bring renewed solutions

Full textIn this thesis, we propose a new risk management framework for telecommunication networks. This is based on theconcept of Risk Assessment Graphs (RAGs). These graphs contain two types of nodes: access point nodes, or startingpoints for attackers, and asset-vulnerability nodes. The latter have to be secured. An arc in the RAG represents apotential propagation of an attacker from a node to another. A positive weight, representing the propagation difficulty ofan attacker, is associated to each arc. First, we propose a quantitative risk evaluation approach based on the shortestpaths between the access points and the asset-vulnerability nodes. Then, we consider a risk treatment problem, calledProactive Countermeasure Selection Problem (PCSP). Given a propagation difficulty threshold for each pair of accesspoint and asset-vulnerability node, and a set of countermeasures that can be placed on the asset vulnerability nodes, thePCSP consists in selecting the minimum cost subset of countermeasures so that the length of each shortest path froman access point to an asset vulnerability node is greater than or equal to the propagation difficulty threshold. We show that the PCSP is NP-Complete even when the graph is reduced to an arc. Then, we give a formulation of theproblem as a bilevel programming model for which we propose two single-level reformulations: a compact formulationbased on LP-duality, and a path formulation with an exponential number of constraints, obtained by projection. Moreover,we study the path formulation from a polyhedral point of view. We introduce several classes of valid inequalities. Wediscuss when the basic and valid inequalities define facets. We also devise separation routines for these inequalities.Using this, we develop a Branch-and-Cut algorithm for the PCSP along with an extensive computational study. Thenumerical tests show the efficiency of the polyhedral results from an algorithmic point of view. Our framework applies to a wide set of real cases in the telecommunication industry. We illustrate this in several practicaluse cases including Internet of Things (IoT), Software Defined Network (SDN) and Local Area Networks (LANs). We alsoshow the integration of our approach in a web application

Full textWith communication networks getting more and more present in our daily activities, network outages or even significant degradations of the quality of service become less and less tolerable. This calls for a robust design of communication networks anticipating possible failures or shifts in the expected traffic demands. This thesis addresses several robust design and planning problems arising in the telecommunication area. We first address the problem of designing and dimensioning a survivable network topology. We propose a novel network design model integrating all equipment costs and constraints and including several operational constraints (potential nodes, modular capacities, delay constraints). One exact and two heuristic algorithms are proposed to solve this problem. Numerical results show that significant cost-savings can be achieved when equipment costs are taken into account in the early stages of the design process. The variation in traffic volumes has become one of the most important problems faced by network operators. Designing a network using a single ``busy hour'' traffic matrix more and more strains credibility due to the high volatility of traffic patterns. Thus, there is a need to incorporate demand uncertainty into the network routing problems explicitly. We study two robust route optimization problems: (1) the problem of VPN design under the hose model of demand uncertainty and (2) the problem of link weight optimization under demand uncertainty. We establish mathematical models for both problems and propose efficient approximation algorithms based on local-search techniques to solve them

Full textNetwork-wide traffic analysis and monitoring in large-scale networks is a challenging and expensive task. In this thesis work we have proposed to analyze the traffic of a large-scale IP network from aggregated traffic measurements, reducing measurement overheads and simplifying implementation issues. We have provided contributions in three different networking fields related to network-wide traffic analysis and monitoring in large-scale IP networks. The first contribution regards Traffic Matrix (TM) modeling and estimation, where we have proposed new statistical models and new estimation methods to analyze the Origin-Destination (OD) flows of a large-scale TM from easily available link traffic measurements. The second contribution regards the detection and localization of volume anomalies in the TM, where we have introduced novel methods with solid optimality properties that outperform current well-known techniques for network-wide anomaly detection proposed so far in the literature. The last contribution regards the optimization of the routing configuration in large-scale IP networks, particularly when the traffic is highly variable and difficult to predict. Using the notions of Robust Routing Optimization we have proposed new approaches for Quality of Service provisioning under highly variable and uncertain traffic scenarios. In order to provide strong evidence on the relevance of our contributions, all the methods proposed in this thesis work were validated using real traffic data from different operational networks. Additionally, their performance was compared against well-known works in each field, showing outperforming results in most cases. Taking together the ensemble of developed TM models, the optimal network-wide anomaly detection and localization methods, and the routing optimization algorithms, this thesis work offers a complete solution for network operators to efficiently monitor large-scale IP networks from aggregated traffic measurements and to provide accurate QoS-based performance, even in the event of volume traffic anomalies

Full textModern communication networks are now confronted with increasing needs in terms of data rates and mobility. The fourth generation developments relies on both new transmission techniques and on improved hardware architectures. The so-called MC-CDMA modulation scheme has recently emerged as one of the most promising technique for future networks physical layer. This modulation scheme combines multi-carrier modulations and spread spectrum technique. The emergence of MIMO techniques provides more data rate or more robustness. The combination of both techniques assumed to be a good compromise in order to meet wide mobility and high data rates constraints. This thesis deals with the study and the implementation of MC-CDMA communication systems and of MC-CDMA combined with MIMO systems. It also considers the definition and the optimization of appropriate design methods on heterogeneous architectures. This work has been done for European MATRICE project and for the Brittany area PALMYRE project. Following a general description of the context and of MC-CDMA, MIMO related principles, a well-proportioned system is presented. Implementation complexity on a mixed DSP-FPGA prototyping board is then analyzed for both systems. MCSE codesign methodology is then considered for MC-CDMA system and MIMO-MC-CDMA system design. The complete design flow is then detailed for both systems. The great interest of these methodologies for such systems optimization is then demonstrated

Full textMulti-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) digital transmission systems currently retain more and more attention due to the very high spectral efficiencies they can achieve over rich scattering transmission channels, such as wireless local area networks (WLAN) or urban mobile wireless communications. In this thesis, in order to evaluate the Bit Error Rate (BER) of MIMO communications, we propose to use the second-order Unscented Transformation method. Next, we propose a fast Maximum Likelihood Based (MLB) decoder for a MIMO Rician fading channel. Lastly, we propose two new non-diagonal precoders, based on the optimization of the minimum euclidean distance. Comparisons to other known precoders, such as Water-Filling (WF), Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) and maximization of the minimum singular value of the global channel matrix, are performed to illustrate the significant BER improvement of the proposed precoders

Full textThis PhD dissertation is about the exploitation of a multilayer technology together with the development of synthesis methods and concepts dedicated to microwave filtering. The first objective of these investigations was to highlight the capabilities and advantages of multilayer technology in the achievement of passive devices dedicated to space applications. An extreme miniaturization is among the potentialities held dear to the space industry; today, this critical point is still at stake, in particular at the level of passive functions. We will show how the use of 2. 5D and 3D specific structures can provide one with attractive solutions, for example, by giving access to higher characteristic impedance and coupling ranges, and by allowing one to overcome many technological obstacles. Particular topologies like « DBR » (Dual Behavior Resonator) and « open-loop » will be examined from the reference specifications of a C-band receiver-integrated filter. The second target was how to make the most of the proximity couplings appearing in filter topologies based on stubs, especially DBRs, so as to design more efficient filtering structure. It led us to propose a nodal matrix-based synthesis. Finally, we will show how both goals had to converge through the joint exploitation of DBR topologies and our matrix synthesis tool in a multilayer context. Meeting the increasing demand about device miniaturization and performance enhancement goes through the occurrence of new degrees of freedom in design made possible by the development of multi-level topologies

Full textThe history of the formation and modification of telecommunications rests on a dichotomy between the universality of network infrastructure, and the emerging demand for specific services. The structuring of the telephone service as an universal network, and the questioning of its monopolistic industrial structure are followed by modification of the economic concepts chosen to describe telecommunications: the theory of natural monopoly and the theory of contestable markets are cited in turn, to justify (even ratify) the failure of the market and the changing nature of competition. The emergence of qualitative differentiation in telecommunications brings with it the questioning first of monopoly, then of universality. The multiplication of services and the spread of savoir-faire provokes a reorganisation of the productive elements which induces a transtitional strategy of cooperation. If the development of specific networks allows the use of telecommunications to competitive advantage, the consequence is a network fragmentation which reduces the efficiency in the sector. The failure of the hegemonic strategy of an integrated network with universal access leads to the reform of french telecommunications the organization of telecmmunications shows a new logic where the coordination is established amongst a plurality of players. Falling between a restricted monopoly and an assumed competition, france telecom becomes a competitive player, justifying the reduction of its public service mission. Control and regulation, no longer the exclusive province of france telecom, give a weaker framework. The number of suppliers increases (network and service suppliers) and standardisation is the subject of a cooperative and competitive game, aiming to provide qualitative differentiation without violating network compatibility

Full textToday, the increasing complexity of the circuits and the micro-electronic integrated systems dedicated to wireless telecommunication technologies forces to define new design methodologies associated with new hardware and software tools. This is the context which our work is registered. Lt can be defined as a contribution to the radio communication systems design. It includes the choice and modeling of the active and passive basic components until the evaluation problems of transmitter-receiver system performance. At the technological level, the SiGe technology was privileged like support for our research tasks. For the aspects related to the RF circuit design of MMIC type, we retained a 20 GHz VCO design, realized in BICMOS SiGe: C 0,251-Jm technology. Finally, on the selected radio application level our choice was made on a SI MO OFDM receiver for the WLAN 802. 11 g standard
