Abstract:
This research paper examines the effectiveness of using Telegram messaging groups compared to traditional Moodle forums in university education. The study, conducted over three academic years at the University of the Basque Country, found that Telegram significantly increased student participation and engagement. The data showed that 94% of students participated in Telegram discussions compared to around 65% in Moodle forums, with a notably higher volume of messages (253 in Telegram vs 79-150 in forums) and more active daily discussions. The study highlighted Telegram's advantages, including immediacy, better peer support, and easier accessibility, while also noting some challenges like message overload and typing limitations. A notable innovation was the integration of a chatbot for quizzes and reminders. Rather than suggesting one platform over the other, the research concludes that both Telegram and Moodle forums can complement each other effectively in educational settings, as they serve different communication needs.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic led to the creation of a new protest movement, positioned against government lockdowns, mandatory vaccines, and related measures. Efforts to control misinformation by digital platforms resulted in take downs of key accounts and posts. This led some of these protest groups to migrate to platforms with less stringent content moderation policies, such as Telegram. Telegram has also been one of the destinations of the far right, whose deplatforming from mainstream platforms began a few years ago. Given the co-existence of these two movements on Telegram, the article examines their connections. Empirically, the article focused on Irish Telegram groups and channels, identifying relevant protest movements and collecting their posts. Using computational social science methods, we examine whether far-right terms and discourses are present and how this varies across different clusters of Telegram Covid-19 protest groups. In addition, we examine which actors are posting far-right content and what kind of roles they play in the network of Telegram groups. The findings indicate the presence of far-right discourses among the COVID-19 groups. However, the existence of these groups was not solely driven by the extreme right, and the incidence of far-right discourses was not equal across all COVID-19 protest groups. We interpret these findings under the prism of the mediation opportunity structure: while the far right appears to have taken advantage of the network opportunity structure afforded by deplatforming and the migration to Telegram, it did not succeed in diffusing its ideas widely among the COVID-19 protest groups in the Irish Telegram.

Abstract:
Crafted as an open communication platform characterized by high anonymity and minimal moderation, Telegram has garnered increasing popularity among activists operating within repressive political contexts, as well as among political extremists and conspiracy theorists. While Telegram offers valuable data access to research non-institutionalized activism, scholars studying the latter on Telegram face unique theoretical and methodological challenges in systematically defining, selecting, sampling, and classifying relevant actors and content. This literature review addresses these issues by considering a wide range of recent research. In particular, it discusses the methodological challenges of sampling and classifying heterogeneous groups of (often non-institutionalized) actors. Drawing on social movement research, we first identify challenges specific to the characteristics of non-institutionalized actors and how they become interlaced with Telegram’s platform infrastructure and requirements. We then discuss strategies from previous Telegram research for the identification and sampling of a study population through multistage sampling procedures and the classification of actors. Finally, we derive challenges and potential strategies for future research and discuss ethical challenges.

Abstract:
Messaging applications like Telegram have evolved into de facto social networking platforms as they add features like broadcast channels and large groups. Yet, research on these aspects of Telegram is sparse compared to more traditional social media platforms. In this paper, we present a dataset of Telegram messages collected using the export API that returns channel histories, complemented by messages collected in real-time. This dual collection methodology allows us to label deleted messages, i.e., messages that are present in the real-time dataset but not the historical dataset. Additionally, we provide labels indicating whether messages have been sent by accounts belonging to one of two distinct propaganda networks. We provide experiments that show how this rich dataset of Telegram messages can be used to study moderation in Telegram, stances and trends on different topics, and to shed light on malicious behaviours present on Telegram. Finally, we outline other use cases where our dataset could help the research community better understand Telegram as a social network.

Abstract:
Student interaction is a pivotal element in any educational environment. Accordingly, employing technologies to increase these educational interactions has attracted both instructors’ and students’ attention. This qualitative paper investigated the means of employing Telegram, a social network site (SNS), to increase students’ educational interactions and explore their perceptions of using it as an interactional medium in a university course. A thematic analysis was applied to assess data collected from the posts of 77 university students in three Telegram groups created for this course and the students’ reflection papers required at the end of the course. This study’s findings identified several instructional activities that can be employed on Telegram to enhance students’ interactions, as well as presented how students interact with their instructor and each other on Telegram. The findings also highlighted the students’ perceptions of Telegram as a technology to enhance their course interactions, including the advantages and disadvantages of using Telegram in this course. Implications of this study can allow university instructors and policymakers to reconsider their teaching methods and even encourage using Telegram or similar SNSs to aid students’ learning.

Abstract:
This article examines the use of Telegram as a means of political communication by the ruling political elite in Russia (both external, i.e., communication with the society and other political forces, and internal, i.e., between different, often rival, groups within the elite itself). While Telegram is illegal at the official level, and attempts have been made to block it in Russia since April 2018, unofficially the Russian authorities continue to actively use Telegram channels for political communication and influencing public opinion as well as for monitoring the mood of the public. What is the reason for this ambivalent attitude toward Telegram? What makes it so attractive for the Russian establishment? How are the authorities using Telegram for their own purposes? Answering these questions is the main goal of this study.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of online discourse as a means of a communicative personality’s self-presentation. The paper focuses on the study of the translator’s personal blog in the Telegram messenger, which is considered to be the most effective resource in terms of multidirectional communication, profession popularization and self-presentation in social networks. The authors managed to substantiate the marketing potential of a translation blog on Telegram, through which not only interpersonal interaction between professional translators takes place, but also socialization in the Internet environment and integration into the professional community. The purpose of this article is to analyze various content types found in translation blogs on Telegram, categorize the main genres present in them, as well as outline the primary linguistic techniques used in a translator’s self-representation and self-expression through blog resources. As empirical material we selected the finalist blogs of the contest ‘Stars of the translation blogosphere’ on the Telegram messenger platform. The study analyzed 82 Telegram channels / personal blogs whose authors use the most successful self-presentation strategies and tactics in the translation segment of the messenger. It has been established that all types of marketing content are present in the Telegram channels of translators – expert, educational, selling, communicative, reputational, news, engaging. Genre groups of the presentation discourse of Telegram translation channels are examined, as well as diffuse genre formations combining the features of different groups. The most productive linguistic means of translators’ self-presentation and self-expression have been identified, which characterize the linguistic creativity of bloggers. Based on a comprehensive analysis of the empirical material, the conclusion is made about the multi-genre palette of the presentation discourse of professional translators in the network discourse of the Telegram channel, which acts as the initial basis for self-presentation and self-expression of the translator on the social network.

Abstract:
This study was designed to see if using Test-Teach-Test (TTT) method via Telegram and Edmodo can promote EFL Learners’ pragmatic awareness. To fulfill this aim, the researcher selected 93 learners from an initial pool of 130 female, pre-intermediate learners based on their performance on the Preliminary English Test (PET). The selected 93 learners were placed into three groups including: experimental group one (N=31), which received TTT via Edmodo; experimental group two (N=33), which was exposed to TTT through Telegram; and the comparison group (N=29), which received face-to-face (F-to-F) instruction using the TTT method. Prior to the treatment, the three groups took the pragmatic awareness test as the pretest. After the treatment, the researcher gave the three groups the pragmatic awareness test as the posttest. The results of One-way ANOVA revealed that TTT via both Telegram and Edmodo significantly improved Iranian EFL learners’ pragmatic awareness. Moreover, the results demonstrated that TTT employed via Edmodo was more effective in enhancing English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners’ pragmatic awareness compared to TTT used through Telegram. Based on the findings, EFL teachers are recommended to use social networking tools in general and Edmodo in particular to promote EFL learners’ pragmatic awareness.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to find out the use of instant messenger Telegram as a tool for spreading radicalism in Indonesia. Defined as a research method based on post-positivism philosophy (correcting weaknesses, that reality is real, and researchers cannot get the truth from reality if researchers are not directly involved), used to examine the condition of natural objects, where researchers are as key instruments, data collection techniques are carried out by in-depth interviews, then to test the validity of the researchers using triangulation (combined), data analysis is inductive / qualitative. The results of the Qualitative Method research show that true instant messenger Telegram is used by many radical groups in communicating and for the purpose of expanding the network of radicalism. So that the Telegram should have a team or technology that can filter radical content directly, so that these groups cannot easily launch their actions by spreading propaganda or the ideologies of their groups.

Abstract:
This study delves into the mechanisms that spark user curiosity driving active engagement within public Telegram groups. By analyzing approximately 6 million messages from 29,196 users across 409 groups, we identify and quantify the key factors that stimulate users to actively participate (i.e., send messages) in group discussions. These factors include social influence, novelty, complexity, uncertainty, and conflict, all measured through metrics derived from message sequences and user participation over time. After clustering the messages, we apply explainability techniques to assign meaningful labels to the clusters. This approach uncovers macro categories representing distinct curiosity stimulation profiles, each characterized by a unique combination of various stimuli. Social influence from peers and influencers drives engagement for some users, while for others, rare media types or a diverse range of senders and media sparks curiosity. Analyzing patterns, we found that user curiosity stimuli are mostly stable, but, as the time between the initial message increases, curiosity occasionally shifts. A graph-based analysis of influence networks reveals that users motivated by direct social influence tend to occupy more peripheral positions, while those who are not stimulated by any specific factors are often more central, potentially acting as initiators and conversation catalysts. These findings contribute to understanding information dissemination and spread processes on social media networks, potentially contributing to more effective communication strategies.

Abstract:
Online messaging platforms are key communication tools but are vulnerable to fake news and conspiracy theories. Mainstream platforms such as Facebook are increasing content moderation of harmful and conspiratorial content. In response, users from fringe communities are migrating to alternative platforms like Telegram. These platforms offer more freedom and less intervention. Currently, Telegram is one of the leading messaging platforms hosting fringe communities. Despite the popularity, as a research community, we lack knowledge of how content spreads over this network. Motivated by the importance and impact of messaging platforms on society, we aim to measure the information propagation within fringe communities on the Telegram network, focusing on how public groups and channels exchange messages. We collect and explore about 140 million messages from 9,000 channels and groups on Telegram. We examine message forwarding and the lifetime of the messages from different aspects. Among other things, we find inequality in content creation; 6% of the users are responsible for 90% of forwarded messages. We also discover that while the forwarding feature considerably amplifies the reach of messages, the spread of content within our dataset remains largely localized. Additionally, we find that 5% of the channels are responsible for 40% of the forwarded messages in the entire dataset. Finally, our lifetime analysis shows that messages disseminated in groups with numerous active users exhibit significantly longer lifespans compared to those circulated in channels.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND Obesity is the main cause or the facilitator of many physical and psychological diseases worldwide, specifically in developing countries including Iran.(1,2) It is estimated that worldwide about 3% of total health expenditure is spent annually on the treatment of obesity related disorders.(3) We wanted to compare the efficacy of two methods of education including virtual education through Telegram messages and group discussion, on anthropometric indices in health care service providers suffering from overweight or obesity in Kermanshah. METHODS This three-arm randomized control trail (RCT) was conducted on 102 overweight/obese female healthcare providers in Kermanshah. Using Excel RAND function, the eligible participants were randomly allocated into three groups; two intervention groups- Telegram message, and group discussion - and one control group. Anthropometric indices including height, weight, waist circumference (WC), and hip circumference (HC) were measured using standard instruments. Data was analysed with SPSS16 using Independent and Paired t-test, Chi-square, and ANOVA. The significance level was considered as p≤0.05. RESULTS Participants’ mean age was 41.9 ± 6.3 years. Mean of BMI was 29.8±3.8 Kg/m2. The mean of weight, BMI and HC of the three groups were not significantly different before intervention; however, the mean of the changes for all three variables in the intervention groups were significantly different (p<.001). CONCLUSIONS Telegram and group discussion were effective on anthropometric indices of healthcare providers; however, comparing the mean change of variables in two intervention groups showed that Telegram method was more effective than group discussion in Weight, BMI, WC, and HC reduction (p<0.05). Abstract:
One of the most studied variables in virtual online education is engagement because it contributes to retention and academic performance. Several studies show that the didactic design of the virtual course, the role of the teacher, interactivity, interaction, time spent in the virtual environment, and the use of digital social networks increase engagement. However, there is a lack of research that compares which of the two digital social networks, WhatsApp or Telegram, promotes higher levels of engagement. This study’s objective is to analyze the effect of the educational use of Telegram on student engagement. An experiment (pretest and posttest with a control group) is designed using a mixed-methods approach based on a convergent or concurrent triangulation design. The study populations (coincides with the sample) are those enrolled (n = 229) in the six editions of a virtual postgraduate course. The techniques used for data analysis were scatter plots, content analysis of teachers’ narratives, and statistical methods. The triangulation of the quantitative and qualitative results confirms that the educational use of digital social networks promotes engagement in all experimental groups (use of the virtual learning environment and Telegram) obtaining greater significant differences than in the control groups. It is concluded that the use of the following Telegram functionalities, chat groups, peer assessments, support for various types of online interaction, the exchange of digital media, and the design of surveys contributed, under the guidance of teachers, is to increase the student’s engagement.

Abstract:
Utilizing an original data set of public Telegram channels affiliated with a right-wing extremist group, the Proud Boys, we conduct an exploratory analysis of the structure and nature of the group’s presence on the platform. Our study considers the group’s growth, organizational structure, connectedness with other far-right and/or fringe factions, and the range of topics discussed on this alternative social media platform. The findings show that the Proud Boys have a notable presence on Telegram, with a discernable spike in activity coinciding with Facebook’s and Instagram’s 2018 deplatforming of associated pages and profiles with this and other extremist groups. Another sharp increase in activity is then precipitated by the attack on the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021. By February 2022, we identified 92 public Telegram channels explicitly affiliated with the Proud Boys, which constitute the core of a well-connected network with 131,953 subscribers. These channels, primarily from the United States, also include international presences in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, and Germany. Our data reveals substantial interaction between the Proud Boys and other fringe and/or far-right communities on Telegram, including MAGA Trumpists, QAnon, COVID-19-related misinformation, and white-supremacist communities. Content analyses of this network highlights several prominent and recurring themes, including opposition to feminism and liberals, skepticism toward official information sources, and propagation of various conspiracy beliefs. This study offers the first systematic examination of the Proud Boys on Telegram, illuminating how a far-right extremist group leverages the latitude afforded by a relatively unregulated alternative social media platform.

Abstract:
Phishing campaigns are becoming more sophisticated, using encrypted communication platforms like telegram to coordinate their activities and store stolen information. This paper introduces a structured and scalable framework that supports cyber threat intelligence (CTI) efforts in monitoring malicious telegram channels linked to phishing activity. The framework is based on a combination of machine learning and human expertise, and it leverages a large dataset of telegram messages and their corresponding labels to train and evaluate the performance of the model. The methodology involves four interconnected stages: extracting hidden artifacts from phishing code, gaining unauthorized access to private telegram groups, analyzing collected data automatically, and implementing counterintelligence measures to prevent detection. Initial findings validate the framework's ability to detect indicators of compromise (IoCs) and visualize the attacker's infrastructure. Additional functionalities like integration with threat intelligence platforms and artificial intelligence-based data enrichment enhance the framework's versatility and usefulness. This method improves proactive communication monitoring, providing a secure and flexible solution for tracking adversarial communication channels.

Abstract:
The growing concerns to accommodate large classroom sizes, lack of microteaching laboratory and inadequacy of time for every student to present and be properly assessed has affected the performance of students in micro-teaching in Nigeria. This therefore calls for different innovative approaches backed up by technology to ameliorate the problem. Thus, this study checked the comparative performance of undergraduate students in micro-teaching using Telegram and WhatsApp in collaborative learning settings in Gombe State, Nigeria. A sample of 282 students enrolled on Telegram and WhatsApp from Federal University Kashere and Gombe State University, respectively was purposively selected for the study. The two sampled groups were assigned into experimental group I (Telegram) and experimental group II (WhatsApp) in collaborative learning settings using a simple random sampling technique. The instruments for the study comprised of micro-teaching achievement test validated by experts in the field of educational technology and curriculum studies, where a split-half method of reliability was used to obtain a figure of 0.91 using Pearson product moment correlation. Descriptive statistics involving mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions while inferential statistics involving an independent sample t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that while the students in both Telegram and WhatsApp platforms performed better in the post-test, a significant difference was obtained in the achievement and retention of the two groups in favor of WhatsApp. It was therefore recommended that lecturers should deploy the use of Telegram and WhatsApp in collaborative learning settings to cover for large classroom sizes and lack of micro-teaching laboratory.

With its promise of unparalleled user privacy, encryption, and little censorship, Telegram, founded in 2013 by Russian-born businessman Pavel Durov, became a rival to industry titans like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. Telegram's story has taken a darker turn in recent years, despite its initial celebration as a symbol of digital freedom, especially in areas where state-imposed limitations impede free speech. In addition to facilitating lawful free expression, its lax moderation guidelines, anonymity features, and encryption capabilities have created an environment favorable for criminal activity, extremist propaganda, misinformation campaigns, and various other illegal endeavors. With more than 800 million users, Telegram's worldwide impact is undeniable. Its rapid, mostly unchecked growth has made it a vital instrument for communication and a breeding ground for harmful information. Governments, law enforcement organizations, cybersecurity specialists, and human rights groups are alarmed by this dichotomy. However, the platform's supporters point to its ability to support political opposition, facilitate emergency communication in crises, and provide an online lifeline free from government monitoring to residents under repressive regimes. As a result, the argument is about more than just messaging app regulation; it is a stand-in for more significant disputes about digital rights, security, and the direction of global information networks.

Abstract:
Abstract Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by symmetrical inflammation of the joints and reduced quality of life (QoL). Limited research exists on how online self-help groups contribute to knowledge acquisition and enhancement. Aims: This study aims to fill this knowledge gap and estimate the impact of these groups on knowledge and QoL in RA patients. Subjects and Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was conducted in WhatsApp and Telegram online groups in Saudi Arabia from September 1, 2023, to April 2024. The target population is the RA patients participating in online supervised self-help groups. A nonconvenient sampling technique is used to collect the data, and SPSS software is used to analyze the results. Results: 97.9% of participants were female, while only 2.1% of males participated in this research. 43.2% of participants were between the ages of 31 and 45 years. 36.9% of participants suffered from other rheumatoid or immune disease. All participants joined WhatsApp, Telegram, or both to learn about RA. Overall, most of the participants had satisfactory knowledge of RA. Their perceptions of joining the groups regarding RA were also clear and helpful. Conclusions: Findings indicate a notable understanding of RA via WhatsApp/Telegram, with improved QoL, yet revealing room for growth, mainly through targeted public education campaigns across diverse media platforms. Emphasizing inclusive online support networks could enhance RA management and improve the QoL of affected individuals in Saudi Arabia.

This article analyses the role of Telegram in orienting, amplifying, and normalizing the non-consensual diffusion of intimate images (NCII). We focus on the sense of anonymity, the platform’s weak regulation, and the possibility of creating large male communities, arguing that these affordances are “gendered affordances” as they orient male participants’ harassment behaviors and, in concert with an established misogynist culture, contribute to the reinstatement of hegemonic masculinity. The research draws on data collected through an online covert ethnography of Italian Telegram channels and groups.

Abstract:
The issue of spreading pro-Russian propaganda in the most popular telegram channels of Odesa region is considered in the paper. It is established that in scientific discourse there are practically no studies on this topic. The most studied problems are: the spread of propaganda in the Telegram by international terrorist groups (ISIS, Alkaida), as well as the blocking of this network in Russia and other authoritarian states. Meanwhile, monitoring of professional media organizations in Ukraine, both at the national and regional levels, has shown that the Telegram is very often used in order to spread pro-Russian messages. An algorithm for detecting pro-Russian messages in the Telegram was developed and the results of its work were demonstrated. The three most popular channels of Odesa region were monitored: “X… Odessa” (265 thousand subscribers), “Odessa Info” (191 thousand) and “Odessa as it is” (126 thousand) in the fall of 2021. Automatic content analysis and frame analysis are used as research methods. It is determined that the Telegram channel “X… Odessa” most often uses the frame “inconvenience”, telling locals about the obstacles experienced by citizens through reforms of decommunization and “language” law (1.07), while Russian aggression was exploited only in every second post – (0.52). Telegram channels “Odessa Info” and “Odessa as it is” wrote about Russian aggression more often – (1.46 and 0.79), and about “inconveniences” less often – (0.73; 0.64). It is suggested that in further research on the detection of propaganda, the greatest attention should be paid to posts where only the “inconvenience” frame occurs. Such texts were found in all three telegram channels. Two pro-Russian narratives were identified: the “separateness” of Odessa from Ukraine, and the “persecution” of Russian-speakers in Ukraine. It is determined that in further research the proposed algorithm for detecting pro-Russian propaganda can be used for Telegram channels of other regions, as well as for all-Ukrainian channels

Abstract:
Linguistic creativity is analyzed as a feature of the microblog paratext in the Telegram messenger. For the media linguistics research, the most important paratext components of publications in Telegram channels were selected, namely: nickname and slogan, which, combining many posts into integrity, are aimed at establishing contact, identifying, informing, advertising and highlighting the channel among others. It was found out that due to the specifics of the technological conditions of speech interaction in Telegram, these paratext components become zones of speech creativity of telegramers and undergo polyparametric language transformations. Linguistic innovations in naming and sloganistics of three thematically diverse groups of Telegram channels — about politics, science and entertainment — are considered. As a result, linguocreative techniques were established in the channel’s paratext, the role of discourse createms in the process of participants’ communicative adaptation to new technological conditions was revealed. Linguocreative techniques in the channels naming consist in the use of specific word-formation, lexical and syntactic resources of the language, which are adapted to the needs of politically, scientifically or entertainment-oriented communication. Linguistic innovation in sloganistics is determined by the desire to draw attention to the channel as a whole and to its individual messages, which forces the participants of telegram communication to mobilize such means of linguistic creativity that update the repertoire of linguistic means for naming speech activity. The research of linguocreativity in the Telegram channel paratext opens up broad prospects for the study of linguistic innovations in the metatext and intratext components of the media text created in new technological conditions.

The study focuses on communication by Russian anti-war activists on social media from the perspective of the mobilisation practised by a social movement. Using the method of qualitative theory-driven content analysis, the study explores how the Russian anti-war movement aims to influence its followers and strengthen its support, as well as motivating its supporters to act, by using the Telegram messaging platform. The study shows that Russian anti-war activists use Telegram channels and groups in particular, firstly, in sharing information and forming interpretations of the current situation, and secondly, in coordinating activism, improving opportunities for activity and making participation easier. While activists simultaneously spread information and raise awareness of the war, and create interpretations of the situation, their use of Telegram is connected to influencing opinion and encouraging activity.

Abstract:
Skimming and scanning are important reading strategies that allow individuals to quickly gather information from written materials. With the advance of digital communication platforms, like Telegram improving students' scanning and skimming skills has become increasingly relevant. While the utilization of technological resources in reading and teaching English has been examined in different settings, there is a need to investigate the potential of Telegram as a specific tool for enhancing skimming and scanning abilities. This research uses both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The respondents in the research are 40 English major learners. The protocols to gather the data were questionnaires and interviews. The study suggests that utilizing Telegram can help students to improve their motivation and engagement, which can further enhance the learning process. Exploring the future implications of employing Telegram requires more investigation, especially for skimming as well as scanning development, as well as its incorporation across different age groups and academic contexts. Nonetheless, the results of the research offer insightful information into the integration of digital communication platforms as effective tools for improving reading strategies, paving the way for innovative approaches to enhance literacy skills in the digital era.

Abstract:
Gender difference has continued to influence achievement and retention of students due to inconsistencies in performance, which troubles researchers. This therefore calls for different approaches to ameliorate this problem by deploying the use of Telegram and WhatsApp in collaborative learning settings in order to bride those gender gaps since technology serves as a leveler. This study examined gender difference on achievement and retention of students in microteaching using Telegram and WhatsApp platforms in collaborative learning settings. A sample of 282 students enrolled on Telegram and WhatsApp from two universities in Gombe State, Nigeria, was purposively selected for the study, where the two sampled groups were assigned into two experimental groups. The instrument used in this study is the micro-teaching achievement test validated by experts in the field of educational technology and curriculum studies, where a split-half method of reliability was used to obtain a figure of 0.91 using Pearson product moment correlation. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions while inferential statistics involving an independent sample t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that there is no significant difference in the mean achievement scores of male and female students taught using Telegram platform (t=2.571, p>0.05); there is no significant difference in the mean achievement scores of male and female students taught using WhatsApp platform (t=3.671, p>0.05); there is no significant difference in the mean retention scores of male and female students taught using Telegram platform (t=5.274, p>0.05). However, there is a significant difference in the mean retention scores of male and female students taught using WhatsApp platform in favor of the female students (t=4.071,p<0.05). It is hereby recommended that lecturers should deploy the use of Telegram and WhatsApp platforms in collaborative learning settings during micro-teaching in order to bridge the individual differences occasioned by gender since technology has the potential to serve as a leveler and also be able to bridge gender differences.

Abstract:
Along with the cyber war and media manipulation under government control since the Russian military operation in Ukraine in February 2022, the Russian government has blocked public access to popular Western social media, such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. As a result, a Russia-based social media called Telegram gained popularity and is used by pro-Russian military bloggers to spread awareness of the issue that was currently in focus among society. This research seeks to explain the motivation underlying the dissemination of information on @maryananaumova Telegram channel. By utilizing content analysis methods, authors identified recurring content patterns dominated by accusations and expressions of hatred towards Ukraine, as well as Russia’s image branding narrative throughout April-May 2023. The findings of this research demonstrate that Maryana's national identity and political affiliation exert influence in shaping the narrative on the Telegram channel, which tends to prioritize the dignity of pro-Russian groups.

Abstract:
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to compare professional and amateur news media (Telegram) coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and to determine the quality of this coverage. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The popularity of Telegram has been growing since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. To describe the digital media environment in wartime, it is important to observe the activity of both professional and amateur media. Webpages containing news texts were exported with Python programs, and news sources were processed using regular expressions. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: At the beginning of the digital platform era there were hopes of a symbiotic relationship between professional media and amateur digital platforms, where the latter would provide more diverse content, thus helping some ignored groups to be heard by the media. As for Telegram, it has a growing number of users and channels, but there are almost no restrictions regarding content. Thus, together with some “alternative” and “ignored” voices, production of harmful content on Telegram is observed around the world: hate speech, extremism, racism, conspiracy theories and propaganda. In Ukraine, Telegram is the most popular source of information during the full-scale Russian invasion and Ukrainians trust it, therefore its contribution to informing people should be analysed. RESEARCH RESULTS: The conducted analysis has demonstrated that popular amateur news media mostly fail to provide clear references to news sources in the war period (in March to October 2022, only every third to fifth post contained a clear reference to a news source). On the other hand, the most popular mass media and amateur mass media sources are mostly the same: media resources connected with the president and the government, verified military sources, etc. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The scarcity of news sources given in Telegram posts confirms previous observations about the low quality of content on Telegram. However, in some cases Telegram channels use reliable official or professional media news sources. Thus, some additional steps are needed to improve the situation: legislative changes for Telegram channels, ownership transparency, further monitoring of content quality, and media literacy campaigns for channels’ audiences.

Misinformation via instant messaging apps in electoral times has grown to be a problem in Latin America lately. Doing a content analysis on most circulated messages on 300 WhatsApp and 42 Telegram chats two months before an electoral process in Chile, we explore an initial approach to a comparative study on the patterns of political information interchange with a particular focus on the magnitude, types and content of misinformation circulated on both platforms in Chile within politically oriented right-leaning groups on both platforms. Among the differences between platforms, we find that while WhatsApp is being used by the groups aligned with more extreme right-wing positions to coordinate campaigns, debate the contingency and spread both info and misinformation, Telegram is centred on deeper conspiratorial groups that merge national and international contingency, UN rejection and anti-vaccine, anticommunist discourse and radical calls for action such as the mobilization for a military coup.

Abstract:
The study examines the role of Telegram channels in shaping the modern political ecosystem of Russian society, focusing on their significance in digital mobilization, public opinion formation and political discourse. Telegram channels are analyzed as key elements where the horizontal connections of self-organizing communities intersect with the vertical structures of power. This dual interaction reveals patterns of their influence on the transformation of political communication and highlights their contribution to new forms of interaction between citizens and political institutions. The choice of Telegram is justified by its popularity and unique content organization, which supports civic engagement and patriotic values. The research methodology integrates network and ecosystem approaches, allowing for the study of Telegram channels as interconnected components of the political environment. Quantitative methods were used to analyze channel metrics, while qualitative content analysis identified key discourses and thematic features. The study’s novelty lies in its application of integrated network and ecosystem approaches to analyze Telegram channels as critical elements of the political ecosystem in the digital era. It identifies mechanisms through which these channels influence political mobilization and public opinion by facilitating interactions between horizontal and vertical structures. Key findings include the identification of metrics and thematic features that underscore the channels’ role in fostering civic activity and patriotic sentiment. The analysis also emphasizes the critical role of digital platforms in adapting the political ecosystem to the challenges of the digital age by decentralizing information flows and strengthening horizontal networks. The results enhance understanding of digital communication mechanisms and offer tools for developing effective strategies to engage diverse social groups.

Abstract:
Social media have been used for political bottom-up organizing and collective action since at least the Arab Spring protests. Social media provide unique affordances that reduce the costs of collective action facilitating anonymous communication and cooperation at a much larger scale than ever before. The Russian invasion of Ukraine provides multiple examples of social media use for collective action. In this conflict, social media platforms, most prominently Facebook and Telegram have been actively employed by Ukrainians as places for organisation, volunteering and gathering support from a variety of volunteers both inside the country and abroad. After nine months of the war, it can safely be said that volunteering has played a huge role in the resistance to Russian aggression. However, little is known about how collective action has been organised on social media during this conflict. This paper aims to advance knowledge on the subject by focusing on how different forms of collective action have been organized on two widely used platforms: Facebook and Telegram. Based on the qualitative analysis of the profiles engaged in the organisation of collective action on Facebook and Telegram we discuss common features and differences between activists on both platforms. Different approaches to the organisation of pages, groups, and channels (including user engagement, interaction, and reporting) are discussed. The theory of affordances is used as a theoretical lens in analysing how the design of Facebook and Telegram allow and constrain certain types of collective action. The paper aims to contribute to the understanding of online collective action and bottom-up organisation on Facebook and Telegram.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study:. search for a technique for constructing and analyzing a graph of interacting objects in the network of Telegram channels, including the calculation of psycholinguistic characteristics of texts. This tech- nique makes it possible to classify groups of channels and evaluate their informational impact on users.Method:. U , M , R -model is used to build a weighted graph during data import. Next, on the resulting graph, the Galaxies method is applied to reveal implicit intersecting communities. Psycholinguistic factors are calculated on the imported combined texts of communities to assess the channels thematic focus. Results:. the article presents a methodology for working with a network of Telegram channels in order to identify groups of channels that carry out information impact on users. A full cycle of actions is presented, starting from data import, using a model for constructing a graph of interacting objects for such networks, and ending with the calculation of psycholinguistic characteristics of texts for groups of channels. At the same time, the issue of the most effective selection of implicit communities in networks of Telegram channels is highlighted. An example of a network and a constructed weighted graph with markers calculated on texts, which are the most indicative for identifying the channels focus, is presented. The presented approach, by highlighting significant differences in the corresponding markers, makes it possible to identify channels that most actively carry out informational impact on users. The combination of an algorithmic approach and the use of psycholinguistic research represent the scien- tific novelty of this method. The results obtained make it possible, using the methods of computational linguistics in combination with the communities reveal methods, to evaluate different participants in such networks.

Abstract:
Social media has gained importance as a channel to influence people's behavior and decisions, affecting not only the online world but also real-life (offline) events. This is especially evident in Brazil, where platforms like Telegram have been instrumental in disseminating political content rapidly and widely. However, the potential coordinated use of Telegram for promoting specific political narratives at critical times, such as the 2022 Brazilian elections, remains an area that requires further investigation. This study aims to investigate this phenomenon, focusing on the first and second rounds of voting and the January 8th riots. To this end, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of 620,000 messages from 256 Telegram groups, focusing on the dynamics of message dissemination and user interactions. Using network backbone extraction and text analysis methods, we identified key users who may be orchestrating the distribution of content. Our findings suggest that these individuals play a central role in the network's topology, relaying messages to a broader audience on dominant topics of discussion that reflect Brazil's political landscape during this turbulent period. This study not only highlights the growing influence of messaging apps on political mobilization but also contributes to our understanding of digital communication strategies in modern electoral contexts, emphasizing the need for further research in this field.

Abstract:
In the course of the analysis of information terrorism, its essence, public danger and the complexity of detection and investigation by law enforcement agencies are investigated. The review of judicial practice on terrorist crimes is presented. The problem of using social networks and messengers for criminal purposes has been identified using the example of Telegram, with which criminals can communicate, recruit accomplices, train them, and create so-called "sleeping cells" of terrorist groups. It is noted that such messengers encrypt messages, the decryption of which will require considerable time, and as a result such information may become uninformative. The system of prevention of information terrorism in the Russian Federation has been identi-fied, which should be based on four approaches: socio-economic, organizational and technical, legal, and ex-ternal (international). It is concluded that the development of digital technologies, namely social networks (Fa-cebook , Twitter , VKontakte, Odnoklassniki), messengers (Telegram, WhatsApp , Viber, Line ) and other Internet platforms contributed to the expansion of crimes in the information sphere, especially infor-mation terrorism.

Abstract:
This research attempted to explore the effects of divergent and convergent tasks on the successful reading of EFL students at the preparatory stage. To verify the analysis, the null hypothesis was established that states "There are no differences of statistical significance at the level of (0,05) among the mean of scores of the experimental group who study according to divergent and convergent task technique and the mean of the scores of the control group who study according to the regular method". The experimental approach is used by designing two equivalent experimental groups of 32 students studying the technique proposed, and an 8-week (2019-2020) control group of 32 students, three classes each week using the Google Classroom Platform and Telegram. The present study utilized the platform Google Classroom (GC) and Telegram as an educational platform to assist students during their course learning process. The writing skills test was administered after checking with the experts. The results show that there are statistical differences at level (0,05) between the average of the experimental and control groups' reading skills and those of the experimental group. This difference is because the experimental group uses divergent and convergent tasks.
