This paper presents an overview of the design of mobile telemedical systems using cellular telephone channels. A mobile telemedicine communication system was studied using both the GSM and the IS-54 standards, which are the most widely used commercial cellular telephone systems in Europe and North America, respectively. A simulation using a photoplethesmography signal showed successful transmssion of data with bit error rates of less than 10-7 at the receiver for the IS-54 standard and less than 10-5 for the GSM standard, depending on the mobile channel conditions used.

Spectrum has been a scarce commodity in RF communication. Acoustic data communication is an alternative to RF communication where data is transmitted through sound waves. In this thesis, several different aspects of acoustic data communication are investigated. A physical test setup is built where the data communication spectrum extends up to 40 kHz. Communication is a basic process of organization. When one conceives the organization as an everchanging system of interactions (White, 1992), one notes that communication aids in the development and maintenance of organizational purposes as its members motivate, inform, and inspire each other. In other words, communication is the ‘nerve system’ that makes organizations and organizational units cohere and permit their members to coordinate all work efforts. It is conventional to make a distinction between the formal and informal aspects of communication in organizations. Informal communication arises from the people’s needs for relatedness, affiliation, and security, and emerges spontaneously, whereas formal communication describes the organizationally blue-printed work-related linkages between employees. Informal communication is ‘emergent communication’ naturally occurring (e.g., Monge & Contractor, 2003). In contrast, formal communication is imposed, or mandated, representing the legitimate authority of the organization and is reflected by the organizational chart (Aldrich, 1976). In the past, communication was solely based on face-to-face contacts. In history there have been several milestones that broadened the number of available communication channels and eased the way of communicating. Since the early beginnings, the predominantly face-to-face communication was gradually complemented with written media, in particular, since the production and use of paper (Johannes Gutenberg 1397-1468). This process gradually spread all over the world. Centuries later, in the 1870s, two inventors, Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell both independently designed devices that could transmit speech electrically. The telephone was invented. Again, a century later in the early days of computers, visionaries foresaw offices and factories humming with self-propelled robots. Today, a more likely vision has the firm humming with communicating employees. Most organizations have installed a complex network of interconnected computers that are embedded in a world of cyberspace, complemented with computer-based telephones and videoconferencing technologies. Organizations have now a very broad (and increasingly broadening) choice to orchestrate their formal and informal channels of communication, but at the same time the challenge to properly utilize the manifold possible media ensembles. Research is still in the very early stages to offer insights in how to managerially orchestrate the wide range of communicational channels. This article attempts to shed some light at the determination of media ensembles by formal and informal communication.

McFarlan’s strategic grid postulated that the impact of existing information systems and impact of the portfolio of planned information systems constitute two dimensions on which the chief executive officer and chief information officer could assess their information technology. But what predicts their agreement on those impacts? Mutual understanding between an organization’s CEO and CIO is an important factor in the organization’s efforts to gain the greatest value from information technology, a factor that communications theory predicts, moreover, can be the product of greater communication frequency and channel richness. This research used a postal survey of 202 pairs of CEOs and CIOs to investigate the effect of such frequency and channel richness on CEO/CIO mutual understanding of the impact of existing information systems and of the impact of the portfolio of planned information systems. More frequent communication between the executives predicted mutual understanding about the current and future impacts of IT. However, the use of richer channels did not predict mutual understanding about the current impact, but did predict it about the future impact when the extent to which the organization relied on IT to support future projects was used as a covariate. Moreover, the finding that CEOs and CIOs perceived e-mail to be a richer communication channel than telephone was an unexpected outcome of the research. From a research perspective, the study extended theory about communication frequency, media richness, mutual understanding, and the impact of IT in organizations. It also provided additional validation of existing instruments that can be used to help future researchers of communications and IT. It provided direction for CEOs and CIOs who may be interested in increasing their mutual understanding of the impact of IT, improving their relationship with each other, and thus improving their planning of new information systems.

Reducing the channels available for transmitting and processing affect may impair the expression and detection of dissociated affects, especially with patients who have difficulty integrating affects with verbal expression. Videoconferencing (VC) is primarily a synchronous, long distance, e-collaboration tool. Although it offers interpersonal features with some degree of media richness and social presence, it is not a perfect substitute for face-to-face communication. VC can add value in business situations where telephone, text chat, or audio conferencing do not provide adequate secondary communication channels such as nonverbal cues (tone of voice, inflection) and interactions (body language). VC also adds value where it is impossible or undesirable to conduct a personal meeting. Participants (N=71) took part in mortgage interviews with a human agent interacting with a computer using four different communication modes: a standard video ink, a video link with video-data, the telephone and face-to-face. Video-plus-data came significantly higher in the rankings than phone. It is argued that video-plus-data was found to be more useful than phone, as it provided the participants with more feedback on their mortgage negotiation. Usability and preference were highest for face-to-face. Usability of video was significantly higher than video-plus-data. Comments made by the participants suggest that this may have been due to the split-attention effect and it is argued that this could be diminished by usability improvements. There were no significant differences in usability between the two video services and the telephone. Reasons for this are explored. Differences between genders were also discovered with the phone being judged to be less usable by male participants. If face-to-face mortgage interviews are to be supplemented by other communication channels then users would find video-plus-data the most acceptable, but there is much room for further improvements in usability.

The purpose of this chapter is to examine the use of Twitter as a communication channel for customer service interactions. The authors discuss the topic of multichannel communication outlets and how popular social media platforms such as Twitter influence the channel choice patterns of today's customers. The chapter presents the findings of in-depth interviews with 50 customers of a major European telecommunications provider aimed at understanding their motivation to use Twitter for service interactions and how Twitter impacts their use of traditional communication channels including telephones and in-person customer representative interactions. Findings reveal that Twitter is a complement for traditional channels. Further, the number of different channels a customer engages with during a particular purchase process is a function of the customer's knowledge for both the channel and the product/service in question.

Social connection in our environment is increasingly being mediated by technology. And modern technologies affect our attempts to communicate. "Are we evolving into tech-savvy conversationalists, or is technology itself evolving into a more conversational entity?" was the question that was posed by Ian Hutchby in his book Conversation and technology: From the telephone to the Internet. He concentrated on four examples: telephones, workplace computerized expert systems, speech-based public inquiry systems, and multi-user Internet spaces. Contemporary theory and empirical studies in conversation analysis, ethnomethodology, and the social creation of technology are all incorporated into Conversation and Technology. Hutchby contends that while we ourselves are shapers of both the cultural and interactional properties of these technologies, technological media can profoundly shape the ways in which we interact. His original contributions to each of these fields supported this claim. The book started out by looking at various theoretical stances on this problem. Truly, the time has arrived for us to develop a new appreciation of the relationship between human communication and technology. While embracing online communication technologies can never replicate the in-person conversations, it has been found that avoiding communication has also become much easier now, lower social engagement on video meetings being not just a product of network limitations is a plausible argument today. There are teams, groups, companies, regions, countries, and many more types and levels of culture that may be important to comprehending how low engagement in online meetings could be a social practice. However, notwithstanding these restrictions, it has been speculated that it is very likely true for some subset of any community that low engagement can be a social decision, not merely a reaction to limits but also an exploitable social resource on the basis of those limitations. Although most video meeting services and meeting gurus would certainly disagree with this decision, it does have its own design ramifications. The point of the matter is that we need to understand which method of communication (text, sound, visual, emoticons) could be a better option for different tasks such as learning, allotting assignments, giving directions, and more. The digitization of education has transformed the teaching and learning of STEM concepts, with computer-mediated interaction and 3D animation playing a crucial role in enhancing educational experiences. This paper investigates the impact of computer-mediated interaction and 3D animation on STEM education through a comprehensive case study of ten prominent educational YouTube channels from diverse cultural backgrounds. The channels studied include Professor of How, Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell, TED-Ed, The Infographics Show, CrashCourse, MinutePhysics, CGP Grey, India In Pixels by Ashris, OverSimplified, and Veritasium. These channels employ various strategies, such as gamification, visual storytelling, and interactive elements, to engage learners and facilitate understanding of STEM concepts.

Abstract:
There has been a need for communication since the existence of mankind. The man has tried to solve this problem in various ways, such as, by using cave paintings, smoke, fire, or trained pigeons. The printing press was the main tool for communication for some years and then the telegraphs were the first tools of wired communication. The telegraph was introduced in 1838 and the telephone in 1876. Image sending was used for the first time in 1926. In the 1970s, wireless communications became eminent. Today, mobile telephone and satellite communications become the usual means of communication for daily life. For satellite communications, Türkiye initially chose to rent satellite channels from foreign satellite companies. But this was neither strategical nor economical, so Turkish authorities decided to establish Türkiye’s own National Satellite Systems. In order to achieve this goal, Türkiye has started satellite studies since the 1990s. The first Turkish own satellite TÜRKSAT-1A crashed into the ocean due to a malfunction on the third floor of the rocket. On 11 August 1994, TÜRKSAT-1B communication satellite was launched into space. TÜRKSAT-1B, TÜRKSAT-1C, TÜRKSAT-2A, TÜRKSAT-3A, TÜRKSAT-4A, TÜRKSAT-4B, TÜRKSAT-5A, TÜRKSAT-5B were successfully launched and for the time being TÜRKSAT-3A, TÜRKSAT-4A, TÜRKSAT-4B, TÜRKSAT-5A and TÜRKSAT-5B have been continuing their duties. TÜRKSAT-6A, which was produced with domestic resources, is planned to be launched in 2023. It is planned to complete the test activities of the TÜRKSAT-6A satellite in the 2nd quarter of 2023 and to make it ready for transportation and to launch it in the 3rd quarter. It is aimed to use the experience, infrastructure and flight equipment gained within the scope of TÜRKSAT-6A in our future satellite programs, thereby reducing foreign dependency in the satellite sector. BİLSAT and RASAT, are low orbit satellites developed by TÜBİTAK UZAY. GÖKTÜRK-1 and GÖKTÜRK-2, which are also low orbit satellites, can carry high resolution Electro-Optic (E/O) cameras. Within the scope of the GÖKTÜRK-1 Project, the Satellite Assembly, Integration and Test Center (USET) was established. This center was a critical infrastructure for the domestic production of communication satellites. The above-mentioned developments inevitably inspired institutions-organizations and young engineers in Türkiye and increased momentum for satellite development activities in LEO orbit. The TÜRKSAT Model Satellite Competition also pioneered the national mobilization in this field. Afterwards, this competition was included in TEKNOFEST. TÜRKSAT organizes the 7th Model Satellite Competition. TÜRKSAT aims to train human resources in the field of satellite and space technologies. While fulfilling these objectives, TÜRKSAT will increase the quality of human resources and provide a certification service in the field of satellite and space science. This will be beneficial for our friendly countries. Digitally produced training materials will be presented to the relevant international units so that a sustainable system will be established. This system will minimize the negative human factor and will provide universally accepted certificates to be produced. This system will be able to be used by the universities and students may have certificates during their education.
