Abstract:
Scenes from mushroom technosciences illuminate forms, practices, and temporalities of atmospheric attunement. This article reanimates moments from scientific literature where chemists and mycologists chase elusive smells and spores, explicating how scientists’ experimental apparatuses of attunement arrange conditions for matsutake to be reduced and concentrated toward the goal of sensibility. Reduction and concentration do more than translate atmospheric elusiveness into specification; achieved through grinding, evaporating, and remixing, they condition a ‘tending to suspension’. Tending to suspension amplifies qualities and throws subjects and sensorial attention into the middle of volumes and durations. ‘Tending’ implies care as well as a ‘tending toward’—the sense that something may develop a tendency. Experimental apparatuses of atmospheric attunement, tending to such tendings, model a method for anthropological study of diffuse objects.

Abstract:
Abstract We report a case of prosthesis dislodgement after transcatheter mitral valve replacement in an 85-year-old woman with chronic ischaemic heart failure. Two weeks after an initial successful implantation, she presented with a paravalvular leak associated with left ventricular outflow tract obstruction. Tether re-tensioning was performed and resolved the situation, but resulted in a deformation of the apical attachment zone into the left ventricle. Unfortunately, the patient finally expired from severe endocarditis. Proper anchoring is the main challenge for transcatheter mitral valve replacement techniques. Dislodgement of the prosthesis after transcatheter mitral valve replacement is an infrequent complication of the Tendyne® procedure. This case emphasizes the importance of assessing the quality of the myocardium at the implantation zone of the apical pad, and of prosthesis oversizing, especially if low-profile valves are chosen. .

Abstract:

Thomas, Douglas. "Dream Tending and Play." Journal of Jungian Scholarly Studies 14 (June 11, 2019): 95–112. http://dx.doi.org/10.29173/jjs8s.

Abstract:
Dream Tending is a system for working with dreams that draws from elements of Jungian psychology and archetypal psychology, focusing on encountering dream images as living entities. The element of play is a vital but unarticulated aspect of Dream Tending, which merits exploration. The concept of play has been a significant topic for psychologists such as D. W. Winnicott, as well as contributors to the fields of social history and philosophy such as J. Huizinga and H. G. Gadamer. This article reviews the theoretical basis of Dream Tending emerging from the ideas of Jung, Hillman, and H. Corbin, and then applies the idea of play as developed by Winnicott, Huizinga, and Gadamer to the Dream Tending skills set. It concludes with a discussion of the clinical implications of focusing on play as a mediator of what Corbin referred to as imaginal space.

The present paper comments on a judicial ruling in which the admission of a particular anticipatory precautionary measure of protection is analyzed in the legal framework of a constitutional action of health protection. The action was instituted in order to guarantee the provision of a drug tending to diminish the effects of rare blood disease.

Abstract:

"The scientific and technological progress registered in the last decades has contributed to the development of radars with supreme radar detection abilities to better detect the air attack means of the enemy. These means, in turn, have contributed to the improvement of the parameters of the airborne surveillance systems in order to detect and to counter aerial threats. The structural and functional dynamics of the aerial surveillance systems have pursued continuous adaptation to the complexity of the battlefield environment in modern warfare, ensuring the information necessary for the coherent and effective engagement of forces in the conduct of military operations."
