Full textNew Caledonia (South-West Pacific) is a tropical area under strong environmental pressure (climate change and local anthropogenic forcing). The aim of this thesis was to gain a better understanding of the colored (CDOM) and fluorescent (FDOM) dissolved organic matter dynamic in the New Caledonia Lagoon where strong ultramafic erosion pressure is associated with trace metals (i.e., nickel, manganese and cobalt). 3D spectrofluorimetry was used to characterize the CDOM/FDOM. The West and East coasts were sampled during one year and a half in a context of El Niño (2015-2016), interrupted by strong rainy events (storms) and during CALIOPE 3 cruise (East coast). A parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) of EEMF led to the identification of 5 fluorophores: marine humic-like, 2 tyrosine-like and tryptophan-like peaks (T2 peak) from the biological balance between phytoplankton and bacterioplankton and a terrestrial humic-like from rivers draining caledonian coast. The CDOM signal at 350 and 442 nm had a strong dependency on river inputs accentuated during storms and revealed photodegraded CDOM. The FDOM signal in the East showed a seasonal cycle (wet/dry season) contrary to the West coast depending on sporadic rainy events. Data acquired during the CALIOPE 3 were coupled with trace metal concentrations, biogeochemical parameters, and plankton communities. Some fluorophores displayed a preferential association with nickel and cobalt. The complexation capacities of these fluorophores toward trace metals were revealed by a quenching experiment that allowed to derive complexation constants

Full textDue to their high hardness and wear resistance, cemented carbide (WC-Co) is the main material used to manufacture machining tools and forming tooling, as well as wear parts requiring high hardness and high precision. The modification of tungsten carbide microstructure, and more particularly its cobalt content, is currently attracting the greatest interest from manufacturers to develop new grades tools with high performance, and then expand new markets. This thesis aims to study the effect of the cobalt content of carbide tools on the measured values and wear mechanisms when machining hard superalloys such as the aeronautical titanium alloys Ti-6Al-4V. Both experimental and numerical research work are devoted on one hand to the understanding of the microscopic damage mechanisms leading to the macroscopic wear of the WC-Co composite and on the other hand, to the influence of the cobalt content on the behavior of the WC-Co taking into account the mechanical-microstructure-damage coupling. On the basis of an experimental analysis, the identification of the macroscopic and microscopic physical phenomena involved at the tool/chip and tool/workpiece contact interfaces was conducted. Machining tests were firstly carried out on the tool-material couple WC-Co/Ti-6Al-4V with different cobalt contents for the tools (from 6 to 15%). In a second step, a tribological characterization of the same tool-material couple was carried out to evaluate the influence of the cobalt content and the contact conditions (sliding speed, applied force) on the friction coefficient and wear. However, the inaccessibility of the contact zones during machining and the tribological tests did not allow a complete description of the wear mechanisms observed, whether macroscopic mechanisms (adhesion, abrasion, deformation, ...), or microscopic mechanisms (cracking, damage of the WC and Co phases). The numerical simulation using finite elements (FE) proved to be a very interesting complementary tool for the analysis of these wear mechanisms. Our modeling strategy focused on the response of WC-Co at the microstructure scale for the thermomechanical loading close to that obtained by machining. The proposed model takes into account the behavior of the WC and Co phases separately and that of the interfaces WC-WC and WC-Co of the composite. This strategy allowed to study and identify parameters influencing the behavior of the microstructure from the elastic stage to the damage initiation. A good agreement was obtained between the results of the numerical behavior at the initiation of damage in the microstructure and those of the experimental observations in terms of the effects of the cobalt content in the tungsten carbide and of the applied machining conditions

Full textBioavailability estimation of nickel, cobalt and manganese in dust from ultramafic soils likely to be mobilized by wind and~eve lopment of a bioindication tool using lichen for dust emitted by mining activities in New Caledonia New Caledonian altered ultramafic soils, particularly rich in Ni, Co, Mn and Cr, are extracted by opencast mines which generale dust rich in metals. The objective of th is work is to develop approaches for environmental risk assessment of dust emitted by opencast mines and nickel ore metallurgical plants. The assessmentof metals' bioavailable fraction from two dust granulometrie size fractions, one less than 100 IJm which is mobilizable by wind (F<1001Jm,) and another one able to penetrate the respiratory system (PM 1 0), has been determined by kinetic extraction with EDT A. The development of a new separation deviee based on particle transport subjected to a nitrogen flux in a horizontal tube has been necessary for PM1 0 segregation. Kinetic extractions le ad to the distinction of th ree metal pools: rapidly labile, less rapidly labile and non-bioavailable. Trace metal potentially bioavailable concentrations were always high and the less rapidly labile pool is always the most concentrated pool. Concerning F<1 001Jm, the less rapidly kinetic constant of the less rapidly labile pool is weaker for mining soils than forest soils. F<1001Jm fractions from mining soils representa more durable reserve in trace metal than the same fraction from forest soils. Bioindication using lichens with compositional data analysis of their metal concentration allow defining an indicator of emission dispersion. This methodology could support air quality monitoring networks in New Caledonia

Full textMost of the marketed drugs contain one or more aromatic rings in their structure. Even though, those moieties are often essential for a molecule to interact with its target, a too high number of aromatic rings can have a negative impact on the physico-chemical properties and on the toxicity of a drug candidate. It is therefore of high interest to replace a phenyl ring by bioisosteres, such as strained cycles (cyclopropane, cyclobutane, bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane). During the course of this thesis, two methods have been developed for the cross-coupling of alkyl (pseudo)-halides with several Grignard reagents containing strained cycles. The first method relies on a cobalt catalytic system and allow the cross coupling of the cyclopropylmagnesium bromide as well as the cyclobutylmagnesium bromide with alkyl iodides. The cross-coupling has also been extended to the use of alkenyl Grignard reagents. The second method uses a copper salt to achieve the cross-coupling of alkyl (pseudo)-halides with bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane Grignard reagents. Both cross-coupling are robust, easy-to-handle and simple and cheap catalysts are used. As these cross-couplings are chemoselective they are promissing powerful synthetic tools for medicinal chemists
