Abstract:
Typically, renewable-power-generation forecasting using machine learning involves creating separate models for each photovoltaic or wind park, known as single-task learning models. However, transfer learning has gained popularity in recent years, as it allows for the transfer of knowledge from source parks to target parks. Nevertheless, determining the most similar source park(s) for transfer learning can be challenging, particularly when the target park has limited or no historical data samples. To address this issue, we propose a multi-task learning architecture that employs a Unified Autoencoder (UAE) to initially learn a common representation of input weather features among tasks and then utilizes a Task-Embedding layer in a Neural Network (TENN) to learn task-specific information. This proposed UAE-TENN architecture can be easily extended to new parks with or without historical data. We evaluate the performance of our proposed architecture and compare it to single-task learning models on six photovoltaic and wind farm datasets consisting of a total of 529 parks. Our results show that the UAE-TENN architecture significantly improves power-forecasting performance by 10 to 19% for photovoltaic parks and 5 to 15% for wind parks compared to baseline models. We also demonstrate that UAE-TENN improves forecast accuracy for a new park by 19% for photovoltaic parks, even in a zero-shot learning scenario where there is no historical data. Additionally, we propose variants of the Unified Autoencoder with convolutional and LSTM layers, compare their performance, and provide a comparison among architectures with different numbers of task-embedding dimensions. Finally, we demonstrate the utility of trained task embeddings for interpretation and visualization purposes.

Abstract:
Background Up to 50 percent of term newborns have clinical jaundice during the first week of life. Many infants with bilirubin encephalopathy were asymptomatic, but they show neurodevelopmental delay few years later. Toxic effect occurs if unbound unconjugated bilirubin penetrates blood brain barrier and causes neuronal death. Objective To investigate the relationship between moderate hyperbilirubinemia in tenn infants and developmental delay in 2- 4 year-old children. Methods A retrospective cohort study was performed usingmedical record of infants born between 2006-2007 in Division of Neonatology Prof. R.D. Kandoll General Hospital, Manado. Data from the medical record consisted of weeks of gestation, birth weight, Apgar scores, diagnosis of sepsis, congenital anomalies. Tenn infants with appropriate weight for gestational age were visited at their home to undergo developmental screening by Denver II and Vineland Social Maturity Scale test. Results Fifty one children enrolled in this study (26 children with hyperbilirubinemia and 25 without hyperbilirubinemia) consisted of 27 boys and 24 girls. Most children were 24 - 29 months old (24/51). The results of Vineland Social Maturity Scale test showed 14 children had delayed social maturation (10 Mth history of hyperbilirubinemia). Denver II screening found 11 children had delayed language skill (10 Mth history of hyperbilirubinemia), 1 child Mth hyperbilirubinemia had delayed fine motoric and language skill. Conclusions T here is a relationship between moderate hyperbilirubinemia in tenn infants and developmental delay in 2 - 4 year old children.

Abstract:
Steven Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are dermatologic emergencies that are more likely to be encountered by primary care providers rather than dermatologists. Thus, it is essential for all clinicians to be familiar with common signs associated with SJS/TEN, so as not to miss or delay the diagnosis. We designed the simple mnemonic “SJS/TENN” which describes the most frequently seen clinical characteristics in these conditions to aid in the initial diagnosis.

Abstract:
Abstract The University of Tennessee Herbarium (TENN) presents a case study for modernizing an historic seed collection. TENN staff recently rediscovered the J. K. Underwood Seed Collection (ca. 1931–1964), containing over 700 unique specimens, hidden away in storage. We employed a series of curation actions to modernize the collection and render it useful to researchers. This included physically organizing and digitally indexing the collection, updating scientific names to current taxonomy, storing the specimens in modern archival-quality containers, housing the collection in environmentally-controlled conditions, and increasing accessibility of the collection by photographing specimens and integrating these images into our existing website (tenn.bio.utk.edu). Our efforts also included developing a protocol for adding new accessions to the collection and advertising the utility of the collection as a source of morphological data on seeds for identification, research, and teaching. We also review modern strategies for curating seed collections. Specifically, we emphasize the importance of increasing visibility of collections through visual, digital representations. This expands the utility of collections and fosters global information sharing across disciplines. We present our curation project as a case study that can serve as a model for curating historic seed collections.

Abstract:
Background Bilirubin in healthy term neonates, especially free bilirubin (Bf), could enter brain cell and cause damage perceived by brainstem evoked response auditory (BERA). Studies identify that Bf is more associated to abnonnal BERA than total bilirubin is. Currently, phototherapy is perfonned in neonates with total bilirubin > 15 mg/dL. However, in developing countries where observation could not be done optimally, neonates \\lith totalbilirubin> 12 mg/dL will be subject for phototherapy. Objectives To determine the association between total bilirubin > 12 mg/dL and BERA abnonnalities in healthy tenn neonates, and the value of total bilirubin and free bilirubin that initiate abnonnal BERA.Methods This cross sectional study was carried out between March 31􀁅August 8, 2008, in healthy term neonates at rooming􀁅in ward, Department of Obstetric & Gy necology, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (CMH). All eligible subjects were examined for Bf and BERA using standard methods. Results The prevalence of abnormal BERA was 15.4%. There was no significant relation between hy perbilirubinemia (> 12 mg/ dL) and abnonnal BERA in healthy tenn neonates. Lowest total bilirubin and Bf level related to abnonnal BERA were 12.4 mg/dL (mean 12.8 mg/dL) and O.oS)Lg/dL (mean l.3)Lg/dL), respectively. All BERA abnonnalities were unilateral. Conclusions There is no association between abnormal BERA and hyperbilirubinemia (total bilirubin> 12 mg/dL) in jaundiced infants who undergo phototherapy.

Abstract Purposefully inflicted wounds were observed on 12 species of trees commonly used in urban landscapes and along city streets. One group was observed in an urban environment in Nashville, Tenn., the other in a rural lawn environment in Wooster, Ohio. Wound closure in both environments was more closely correlated to species than to commonly used growth parameters. In both environments, Fraxinus pennsylvanica and Liquidambar styraciflua closed wounds more quickly than Pyrus calleryana ‘Bradford’, Gleditsia triacanthos var. inermis, and Betula nigra.

Several pod characteristics were evaluated to select methods for determining optimum maturity for mechanical harvest of flat podded `Roma II' beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). The test was conducted over a 3-year period (1993-1995) at Crossville, Tenn. A total length of 3.6 to 4.4 inches (90 to 112 mm) for the center seed from each of 10 of the more mature pods was a rather reliable and rapid field guide for determining optimum maturity for mechanical harvest of `Roma II' bush beans.

Abstract:
Management strategies for Phytophthora blight (caused by Phytophthora capsici) in bell pepper production are limited and there is no single method that will consistently provide adequate control. Twelve bell pepper cultivars (including four marketed as resistant/tolerant to P. capsici) were transplanted into a P. capsici-infested field and were managed with or without fungicide applications. The fungicide applications consisted of: i) Mefenoxam (Ridomil Gold EC, 1.2 L/ha) at transplant; and ii) a spray application of Dimethomorph (Acrobat, 0.45 kg/ha) + Copper (Tenn-Cop, 3.6 L/ha) alternated with Manganese ethylenebisdithiocarbamate (Maneb, 2.8 kg/ha) + Copper (Tenn-Cop; 3.6 L/ha) at 10- to 14-day intervals. Regardless of cultivar, the standard fungicide program reduced the incidence of Phytophthora blight and resulted in greater yields and farm-gate revenues when compared to the no fungicide program. Across all cultivars, total farm-gate revenues per hectare were $6,773 and $3,674 for the standard fungicide program and the no fungicide program, respectively. For P. capsici-tolerant cultivars, farm-gate revenues improved with the use of the standard fungicide program by $1,316, $4,427, and $5,447 per hectare for `Aristotle X3R', `Revolution', and `Alliance', respectively, compared to no fungicide applications. Furthermore, farm-gate revenue for P. capsici-resistant `Paladin' was improved by $3,240 per hectare when a standard fungicide program was used. Results indicate that although plant resistance is an important component of a P. capsici bell pepper management program, the use of recommended fungicides could improve disease control and increase farm-gate revenues.

Abstract:
With the current focus on establishing long-tenn customer relationships, the enhancement of the entire shopping experience and the role of atmosphere and the emotional reactions it elicits, are becoming increasingly important. Determining the factors that contribute to the creation of pleasant or unpleasant shopping experiences can influence future strategic planning. The focus of this study falls on the way that the physical environmental factors of a store, more specifically the environmental odour, affect consumers' emotional responses. This is discussed on the basis of environmental psychology, using certain research findings as well as theoretical models to shed more light on this topic.

The mortality rates of surgery and percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTHBD) are comparable. Long tenn studies show that delayed complications occur in the majority of cases of PTHBD and survival is not improved compared to surgery. The many recent advances in endoscopic and percutaneous drainage techniques and the recognition that the patient is best served by a noncompetitive multidisciplinary approach will ensure that virtually every patient obtains the most satisfactory drainage possible with a minimum of risk and discomfort. Endoscopic drainage should be the first therapeutic option, with radiologic assistance in the 15 to 25% where endoscopic drainage fails or is incomplete.

Abstract:
Trials were conducted in 2004 to compare the effects of soybean oil formulations and concentrations on flowering and fruit thinning of rabbiteye and southern highbush blueberries. Mature `Climax' bushes near Spring City, Tenn., were sprayed to runoff on 10 Feb. with water, or 9% soybean oil in the formulations TNsoy11, TNsoy12, TNsoy13, TNsoy14, or Golden Natur'l (GN). In a second trial, 3-year-old `Legacy' southern highbush plants at Spring Hill, Tenn., were sprayed on 11 Feb. with 0%, 6%, 9%, 12%, and 15% GN. A similar trial was sprayed on 5 Mar. at Fletcher, N.C., using young plants of various Southern highbush cultivars. Each formulation of soybean oil (9%) delayed bud development and flower anthesis of `Climax' bushes. Bloom opening on `Legacy' bushes was delayed by 2 to 6 days with sprays of ≥9% GN, with higher concentrations causing more delay. However, flower bud mortality of `Legacy' plants was greater when sprayed with the higher oil concentrations. `Legacy' plants sprayed with 0%, 6%, and ≥9% oil had 0%, 30% and ≥70% bud mortality, respectively, at 36 days after treatment. `Legacy' plants sprayed with 12% and 15% oil sprays had an estimated 24% and 13%, respectively, of a crop load compared to the estimated 100% crop load on control plants. Flower bud development, flower bud mortality, crop load and berry size (across cultivars) of Southern highbush cultivars at Fletcher were not affected by oil treatments. Results were variable among trials, perhaps due to factors such as cultivars, timing of application (date), maturity of plants, environmental conditions, etc. There is potential for soybean oil formulations to be used as a chemical thinner as well as to delay blooming.

Abstract:
Two configurations of series solar assisted heat pumps were experimentally evaluated in TECH House I on the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville, Tenn. During the 1979–1980 heating season, a 4.2 m3 (1100 gal) insulated above ground storage tank was utilized. During the 1980–1981 heating season, the storage system consisted of an uninsulated 7.6 m3 (2000 gal) steel tank buried 2.1 m (7 ft) in the ground. For 1979–1980 the heating season system performance factor was 2.42 and the system’s maximum peak electric demand was 11.20 kW. For 1980–1981 the heating season performance factor increased to 3.16 while the maximum peak electric demand decreased to 4.33 kW.
