Abstract:
Abstract This paper introduces speech acts that I denote as tentative, which means they do not make sense as single propositions. The meaning they make depends on the attempt to formulate something which seems difficult to put in words. There is no finished intention, feeling or idea to be represented; neither can one construct whatever one wants to say. Tentative speech acts make sense by literally speaking into a felt complexity, as Eugene Gendlin demonstrates. What needs to be understood in regards to these speech acts is a development of meaning occurring during the formulation and not the ontological status of inner entities. A happy outcome of tentative speech acts is a clarification of some aspect of a situation, problem, puzzlement or vague idea, at times involving complex implicit contexts, backgrounds and what Dilthey termed “Lebenszusammenhänge”. In order to speak of these kinds of complex points of reference, John Dewey introduced the term of the „quality of a situation“ and Eugene Gendlin the term „felt sense“. The paper explores ways to approach these speech acts and to consider their philosophical relevance.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Much social work practice with adolescents involved in activities known to be risky, such as experimentation with substances or petty crime, seems to have been influenced by the conventional input-output model which assumes an unreflected relationship between the present manifestation of risk and adverse future outcomes. This model relies on an uncertain scientific basis and does not really allow for the adolescents’ own reflexivity. This article aims at contributing to the shaping of more reflexive concepts for social work in this area, and is based on material derived from a focus group made up of 17 adolescents from Central Norway, aged 16-18 years old. The major foci of analysis were: i) how the adolescents positioned themselves with regard to conflicting notions of respectability, ii) which constructions of meaning might be attached to this positioning and iii) how the positioning might inform social work practice.

Rouchette, Pierre. "Tentative de restitution de Claude Simon." Toulouse 2, 1998. http://www.theses.fr/1998TOU20026.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is about a restitution of what could have been the way of this contemporary righter, together with some elements of his personality. Starting from the hypothesis, suggested by the distinctive tone of "L'acacia", that the mental work performed in the righting of the novels also allowed a psychological elaboration, this dissertation aims at showing how the novels, as a whole, are evidence of this progress. After an introduction, characterizing the specificity of the Simonian righting, a first part states the relationship with the family authorities, who structure the universe of the novels around some figures incessantly questioned. Then a second part shows that this need to stop the hole ; conceals in fact an archaic feeling of anguish which strews the text with his specific signs, i. E. The images of a splintered world which can be described. At last, a third part studies the mastery of style, notably by examining the part played by the metaphor, or by exploring the form likely to represent chaos. A conclusion tries to draw a general viewpoint on the complete works, and to cast a particular light on the personality of the righter and his position among the novelists of his time

Serpault, Pauline. "Tentative d'analyse énonciative de have to." Thesis, Normandie, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017NORMC019/document.

Abstract:
This study explores various uses of have to in contemporary English, relying on empirical data. The analysis is carried out within the framework of the theory of enunciative operations as set out by Antoine Culioli, and aims to identify a set of functional invariants holding across a wide range of contextual meanings. Our formal representations partially build on the operations marked by the verb have and the infinitive particle to, as our analysis suggests that the functioning of have to can be perceived as a product of their combination. These representations also attempt to pinpoint the difference between have to and must, while accounting for the cases in which their meanings seem to overlap

Abstract:
The thought of Thomas Aquinas is often misinterpreted. Its complexity, especially the plurality of modes of discourse, is neglected by the commentators. This plurality permits to resolve, although imperfectly, the tensions between the muthos of faith, the logos, the philosophy and the common sense. Thomas also uses a plurality of key concepts in the domain of metaphysics. Thus, he describes better the complexity of the Real. Ousia, Forma, Unitas and Neoplatonic’s scheme monè-proodos-epistrophè are structural notions as important as Esse in the Aquinas’ synthesis. The scientific discourse doesn’t exclude the others, but imperfect, modalities that are dialectic and rhetoric. It’s a requirement of the science itself. For Reality comprehends under its extension the particulars and paradoxical objects of faith

Giannini, Adriana. "A tentative national infrastructure policy for Canada." Thesis, McGill University, 2008. http://digitool.Library.McGill.CA:80/R/?func=dbin-jump-full&object_id=21941.

Full text
Abstract:
Throughout history, a well maintained and functioning infrastructure has successfully contributed to Canada's international competitiveness and high standards of living, however, this infrastructure has deteriorated significantly and it poses a threat to Canada's productivity, international competitiveness, economic development and the quality of life of all Canadians. Neglect of Canada's infrastructure over the past several decades has resulted in accelerated deterioration and has caused many assets to become obsolete, unsafe or no longer serviceable long before the end of their service life. The recent, tragic infrastructure failures and distresses reflect these years of neglect and reveal the urgency of bringing infrastructure back to acceptable levels of safety and serviceability. This thesis proposes that a National Infrastructure Policy be developed as a first step towards this improvement. The need for a policy is highlighted by reviewing some of the main findings of the 2007 FCM-McGill Infrastructure Survey and the current trends in infrastructure management. The policy will address the current trends and shortfalls and provide long-term, sustainable solutions to dealing with the infrastructure crisis in a standardized manner nation-wide.

Abstract:
This review of the literature on suicide prevention programs targeting people who identify as LGBTQI found scant research in this area. However, the available evidence allows tentative directions to be drawn to guide prevention efforts targeting this group. Studies included in the review looked at legislative initiatives (e.g. same-sex marriage), community programs and therapeutic interventions. Legislation was found to play an important role by promoting equality and prohibiting discrimination and school based programs appear to show promise in reducing suicide among LGBQTI youth. Overall, the review found that more work is needed in developing and evaluating suicide prevention programs for LGBQTI communities.
