The construction of traditional gender roles has affected the understanding of being feminine and masculine. This understanding seems to influence gender performance in the film Mrs. Doubtfire. The aim of the thesis is to analyse Virginia Woolf's novels and non-fiction in light of several recent trends in feminism and gender theory relevant to her work. The thesis considers Woolf's label of a feminist writer from a contemporary perspective.
