Abstract:
This thesis aplied tools of economic analysis on situation in poker, where players choose to finish tournament or make a deal and take certain amount of money immediately. Theoretical frame consists of economic theories for decesion under risk and poker literature. Hypotheses are tested with regresion analysis on dataset which I obtain by my own observing. Estimations support hypothesis that players are risk-averze and loss-averze. In bigger tournaments are bigger prizepools and that is the reason, why players in bigger tournament make deals more often. Moreover deal is more likely, when players are approximetly equal skilled in poker.

The dissertation called Economic and Psychological Aspects of a Consumer's Behaviour and Decision-Making is dedicated to a consumer's behaviour and decision-making in economic and financial issues from the perspective of classic economy, psychology and behavioural economy. The theoretical part describes the expected utility theory and psychological findings on one hand, and presents the so called Prospect Theory and systematic biases on the other hand. The practical part comprises a research. Mission of the questionnaire survey is to find out whether behaviour and decision-making are rational and correspond with the classic economy theory or whether consumers behave irrationally and verify presumptions of behavioural economy.

The goal of this work was the study of evolutionary algorithms and utilization of them for digital circuit design. Especially, a genetic programming and its different manipulation with building blocks is mentioned in contrast to a genetic algorithm. On the basis of this approach, I created and tested a hybrid method of electronic circuit design. This method uses spread schemes according to the genetic algorithm for the pattern problems witch are solved by the genetic programming. The method is more successful and have faster convergence to a solution in difficult electronic circuits design than a common algorithm of the genetic programming.

Hudík, Marek. "Essays on Economic Behaviour." Doctoral thesis, Vysoká škola ekonomická v Praze, 2009. http://www.nusl.cz/ntk/nusl-72328.

Full text
Abstract:
The main thesis of these essays is that social phenomena are different from psychological phenomena and thus social sciences do not belong to behavioural sciences. Chapter 1 introduces the fundamental problem of the rational choice theory ("Macaulay's problem"): either the theory is empirical and false or it is without empirical content and true. Various suggested solutions to this problem are reviewed and criticized. It is argued that the problem is evaded once it is admitted that rational choice theory does not attempt to explain behaviour. It was developed to explain decreasing individual demand and its extension to behavioural sciences is illegitimate. In Chapter 2 the difference between the interpretation of rationality in choice theory and demand theory is shown. It is argued that choice theory must adopt the agent's point of view, while demand theory proceeds from the point of view of an observer. Chapter 3 applies the argument to the problem of indifference ("Nozick's problem"): it claims that choice theory must adopt strict ordering of alternatives because indifference is already accounted for in the description of the choice alternatives. The difference between the consumer perception and the objective price-quantity relation embodied in the demand function is further explored in Chapter 4 on the example of the Rothbardian demand theory. It is argued that the law of marginal utility defined in terms of subjective units (i.e. units relevant to the consumer) does not imply nonincreasing demand. Chapter 5 is complementary to the previous and attempts to answer the question, whether the concept of marginal utility is compatible with ordinalism. Finally, Chapter 6 discusses on the methodological level the difference between behavioural sciences and economics. It argues that the difference can be conveniently described with the help of Popper's concepts of 'World 2'and 'World 3'.

Abstract:
Theory Stroke, a cerebrovascular disease, causes severe disability and failure of self-sufficiency for nearly of half of the patients. Nursing focuses on respecting the individuality of each patient, supports the return and consolidation of a good health, promotes self-sufficiency and searches for the needs of the patient. Conceptual model of D. E. Orem assumes the ability of each human to take care of self. Although partially, or not capable of self-care at all, it is necessary to fill up the deficit by nursing care. Objectives The first objective was to state the options to how to fill up the deficit of self-care by patienst after stroke. The second objective was to determine, whether the patient´s living environment has an impact the development of self-care. Research questions Q1: Does the home environment stimulate the acceleration of the return of self-care ability by patients after a stroke? Q2 : Does the respondent perceive the issue of own disability equaly as the surrounding? Q3 : Is it more beneficial for the patient to perform self-care with deficiency, or to receive perfect execution of it by others? Q4 : Does the patient perceive the subsequent therapy (physiotherapy, occupational therapy) as a faster way to return to sufficient self-care? The research part of the thesis was carried out by a qualitative survey, conducted as a individual semi-structured thematic interviews with respondents devided into two groups. One group consisted of patients after a stroke and a second group of caregivers. Total of 8 patients, 4 males and 4 females, were interviewed. The research was completed in three sessions, each at intervals of four to six weeks. The information received were processed by open coding method, analytical induction development of technology showdown and narrative analysis. Results Using data received from interviews with respondents it was possible to answer all the research questions. The first research question examined was, whether the home environment stimulates the acceleration of the return of self-care ability by patients after a stroke. According to interviews and objective evaluation, the domestic environment has improved overall condition and faster return to individual self-care. Although, aftercare provided enough nursing and rehabilitative care, patient very much appreciated mental stimulation given by the home environment. The second research question focused on whether the respondent perceives own disability equaly as the surrounding. The interviews showed most of the patients perceive their health and subsequent disabilities better than its surroundings. The third research question examined whether it is more beneficial for the patient to perform self-care with deficiency, or to receive perfect execution of it by others. The results indicated more benefits by performing own self-care, even with mistakes that encourage practising, thereby repeating and consolidating manners. Most of the respondents refused any help. The fourth research question focused on patient´s perception of the subsequent therapy (physiotherapy, occupational therapy) as a faster way to return to sufficient self-care. The interviews showed that the respondents did not realize the importance of aftercare, considered it to be routine and as a part of the treatment. Yet, increased physiotherapy activities results into a quicker adjustment of self-sufficiency. Conclusion The temporal evolution of self-sufficiency of patients after a stroke and the attitudes of caregivers are described in this thesis. The results are presented in a form of mental map. This might be used by the patients after stroke, nursing staff or official home caregivers and informal caregivers, as well.

Dating online applications have fundamentally changed the form of online dating. They are available on a mobile phone and are based on spatial proximity of users and ease of use. This diploma thesis focuses on users of these applications. This thesis is based on the assumptions of the uses and gratifications theory, which assumes that the media audience is active and uses the media to satisfy its needs. The aim of this thesis is to find out how individuals use the dating applications and what their reasons for using are. To collect data, I chose a combination of quantitative and qualitative approach. First, an on-line questionnaire survey was conducted, followed by semi- structured interviews with applications users. Research has shown that the reason for using and the attitude of users varies with each individual and can change during use. Use of Theories of Harm in the Application of Art. 102 TFEU Abstract This master's thesis presents a study of the impact of European Union competition law on the area of abuse of dominance. It maps the usage of the effects-based approach and consumer welfare standard in abuse of dominance cases pursuant to Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. This is done by an analysis of the theories of harm advanced in the case law of the European Commission in prohibition decisions from the last twenty years. The thesis begins by a theoretical discussion and outline of the boundaries to the Commission's discretion in this area, as set by Union courts. Then, a short description of the process of competition law modernisation in Europe continues. In the subsequent analytical part, the cases are tested against two criteria. The first criterion is whether the Commission has analysed the actual or likely effects of a dominant undertaking's conduct. The second criterion is whether the Commission tested the pertinent conduct against a consumer welfare standard. In the final chapter, the results of the analysis are discussed. The conclusion of this thesis is that the Commission's case law did shift to a more effects- based approach over time and that the Commission does attempt to take the...

Abstract:
In this thesis viewpoints of Hegel's philosophy of history were confronted with selected fields of 20th century social theory. The Enlightenment was chosen as a keyword. In Hegel's Phenomenology of Mind the Enlightenment is a mode of experience of consciousness, or a phenomenon of Spirit in its history, a phenomenon which is becoming outdated in his time. To illustrate such overcome this conception of Enlightenment is demonstrated on Kant's article The answer to a Question: What is Enlightenment?. Thesis then examines the way in which had Hegel's interpretation inspired Critical theory - specifically Adorno's and Horkheimer's Dialectic of Enlightenment and Marcuse's Reason and Revolution. The last part of thesis is focused on the broader field of social theory to find manifestations of thought stream begun by Hegel. It finds it out especially in thought of Gadamer in considerably radical form calling to a question the epistemology of humanities till his present. Viewpoints emerged from Hegel's philosophical reaction to the Enlightenment represent still current counterpart of neopositivist approaches and a relevant reference point in epistemological uncertainty and in finding out an adequate socio-historical role of humanities.

Abstract:
The thesis focuses on study of consumers media produced by the chain stores and their use by the target audience including the perspective of creative consumption theory. The creative consumption theory presumes an active role of a consumer in the process of consumption. It believes that the consumer can consciously influence the development and behaviour of the society in general only by their consumer behaviour. The practical part of the thesis is accompanied by a theoretical frame of consumption history and consumer's history and its role in today's consumer society. There is also a part dedicated to a brief introduction of the Czech retail market, selected retail chains and their customer media and customers' segmentation with respect to the creative consumption theory. The first quantitative analysis study shows how many inhabitants of one Prague's housing projects do not want to receive any advertising to their letter boxes and why they have actively labelled their letter box with a label asking for "NO advertising". The main research focuses on the use of customer media also in the light of the creative consumption theory. Abstract:
This thesis explores the politics of biosecurity and the governance of dual-use research. It focuses on life sciences, whose rapid development brings together the issues of biological weapons, terrorism, and the dangers of scientific innovations. The thesis has three goals: first, to situate the dilemma of dual-use research historically and conceptually, second, to analyse how the attempts to govern biosecurity and regulate dual-use research in life sciences affect the relations between science and security, and third, to discuss what implications this science-security nexus has for the politics of (in)security. Approaching the subject from critical security studies, the thesis looks at how the nexus between science and security is constructed. It does so, first, by exploring the dominant political and expert discourses on biosecurity and by looking at two distinct empirical sites, which exemplify how a regime of biosecurity governance evolves at a boundary of science and security in a 'global' and 'local' context: the international biological weapons regime and the Czech system of biosecurity management. The thesis finds that the attempts to govern dual-use research in life sciences focus not only on materials and technologies but also on scientific knowledge. It conceptualizes dual-use as a problem of...

Full text
Abstract:
The diploma thesis focuses on motivations for watching beauty videos on YouTube. The aim is to clarify why viewers watch amateur videos that communicate topics related to physical appearance. Assuming the audience as an active actor of media communication the thesis is based on uses and gratification theory. Viewers watch beauty videos consciously to meet their individual needs. Based on an analysis of eleven interviews with regular viewers of beauty videos this thesis reveals five categories of motivation. Beauty videos represent the source of information, the source of entertainment, the platform for communication with individuals with shared theme of interest and the tool for self-education. These motivations are not specific for this specific type of media and can motivate viewers to watch amateur beauty videos and professional beauty shows equally. The key motivation for watching beauty videos on YouTube is the interest of videobloggers. Authors of beauty videos disclose parts of their privacy, show their imperfections and interact with their audience. Using these practices videobloggers evoke the illusion of a close relationship between them and their viewers. Viewers have the opportunity the create strong social ties to videobloggers.

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on self-tracking, which mean monitoring and recording information about oneself using digital technologies and its use by runners in the Czech Republic. The main aim of this thesis is to describe the Czech running community through a detailed sociological analysis, and to answer a question: Why runners use self-tracking and how they benefit from it? The theoretical part firstly deals with the topic of self-tracking itself, then examines the uses and gratifications theory and the theory of online communities. The analytical part is devoted to description, analysis and interpretation of the results of the author's own survey, in which 844 runners of whom 754 practice self-tracking participated. Several hypotheses concerning sociodemographic structure, running characteristics, motivation, gratifications and safety were formulated. Five key motives (self-control, orientation to result, self-improvement, habit and social interaction) that lead runners to use self-tracking devices were identified through exploratory factor analysis. The motives vary based on gender and running characteristics (experience with running, runner's level, frequency of running, trainer) that also represent the main influencing factor for self-tracking in general. Self-tracking is closely related to sharing...
