Abstract:
The diffusion and transfer of knowledge is central to the process of innovation and is of importance to both academics and industrialists. In this paper, we propose that academic articles and patent documents referring to a set of well-researched concepts may be used as a measure of this diffusion and transfer. Concepts are typically articulated as terms, and shared terms in specialist research papers and patent documents are proposed as a monitoring index for the transfer of academic knowledge to patented technology. The identification and statistical monitoring of changes in the use of terms

Long-term monitoring and adaptive ecological management are essential to the conservation of biodiversity. Yet, achieving successful long-term ecological monitoring and management, especially at the landscape level, has proven challenging. In this paper, we address the hurdles faced in sustaining long-term monitoring and management for landscape-scale efforts by offering three promising conceptual and methodological developments that support such initiatives. Then, we introduce L-TEAM, a long-term ecological adaptive monitoring and management framework that integrates those three components us

Continuously monitoring brain function at the bedside in the NICU for term infants at risk of brain injury has become part of routine clinical practice in many countries. These monitors offer invaluable information about the sick infant’s neurologic status by providing real-time measurements of the brain’s electrical activity and identifying or confirming seizure activity. With the increasing availability of bedside electroencephalogram technology, it is essential for neonatal intensive care nursing staff to understand the rationale for its use, as well as the fundamentals of application and i

Systematic monitoring of specific targets in the optical regime was historically applied on a very narrow sample of known variable stars. The discovery of blazars in the 20th century brought to the foreground the need for new global sky surveys, covering the entire sky and fainter sources. Full-sky surveys are conducted more easily from space observatories, while radio telescopes perform follow up observations from the ground. Blazars are detected in a wide range of energies, while they exhibit strong variability in various wavelengths from γ-rays and X-rays to the optical and radio domain. Th
