Abstract:
Terminalia ivorensis is a tree species found in lowland rainforest zone in Nigeria but is predominantly a tree of seasonal forest zones. Nursery experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of soil type on the growth of Terminalia ivorensis. Different soil types were collected namely: sandy, clay and loamy soils. Seeds of Terminalia ivorensis were broadcasted on a germination bed at the college nursery and later, were transplanted into polythene pots containing the different soil types. The parameters assessed include total height, stem diameter and leaf prod

The neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis are characterized by a significant increase in oxidative stress that can lead to cellular damage to neurons. In recent years, the antioxidant activity of medicinal plants has become important in research against cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Terminalia mantaly and Terminalia ivorensis are two plants traditionally used to treat lesions, wounds, ulcers and hemorrhoids, malaria and yellow fever. Terminalia ivorensis and Mansonnia altissima is an important tropical timber tree plant, but poor germination is an important factor militating its regeneration. Effects of pretreatments on germination of seeds of Terminalia ivorensis and Mansonia altissima were studied. Four hundered and eighty matured seeds of Terminalia ivorensis and three hundred and sixty seeds of Mansonia altissima were obtained from Forest Reserve Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), Ibadan. The seeds were divided into twenty-one equal portions of 10 seeds each. Twelve pretreatments were investigated on Terminalia ivorensis and

Tree litter fall was monitored for 2 years in two Terminalia ivorensis A. Chev. plantations in the humid tropics of southern Cameroon. The plantations were 6 and 17 years old when they were each thinned to two timber stand densities (TSD) and understorey food crops were introduced. Leaf litter was the predominant litter fraction in all treatments. Treatment means of specific leaf area for T. ivorensis ranged from 83.7 to 100.7 cm2·g-1. Litter-fall production, leaf area per tree, and leaf area index for T. ivorensis were all higher in year 2 than in year 1. There was near complete defoliation o

Background: Candidiasis is a fungal disease caused by Candida albicans, a yeast that preferentially affects mucous membranes. These diseases are more and more recurrent because of the generalized decline in immunity and the appearance of resistance to classical antifungal drugs. Therefore, fighting against therapeutic failures becomes necessary. The objective of this study is to contribute to the fight against candidiasis through the research of new antifungal molecules. AbstractShade trees are important components of cocoa-agroforestry systems because they influence yields, soil fertility and the occurrence of pests and diseases and may support adaptation to climate change. Based on a review of the existing literature and on primary data from field experiments, this chapter reports on the species-specific effects of shade trees in relation to the management of insect pests, black pod diseases and their impacts on cocoa yield. Shade tree species in cocoa systems impact soil available phosphorus differently and shade tree species such as Spanish cedar (Cedrela
