Abstract:
This paper presents the performance of Terminalia superba and Triplochiton scleroxylon seedlings in enrichment planting indifferent forest canopy types or disturbance types (Skid trail, landing bay and undisturbed area). An area of 0.05ha (50m x10m) plot each was purposively selected and demarcated in landing bay, skid trails and undisturbed area in Asenanyo ForestReserve in the Nkawie Forest District. Complete Randomized Design (CRD) was used to lay different 50m x 10m plots ineach disturbance area. There were five replicates each of Terminalia superba and Triplochiton scleroxylon seedlings plantedat 6m by 6m planting distance in each canopy type. Soil samples were randomly collected at each of the three different forestdisturbance sites at a depth of 0–20 cm. The results revealed a 100% survival of Triplochiton scleroxylon whereas that ofTerminalia superba was 33%. The mean diameter for Terminalia superba seedlings across the three different forest gap typeswas 0.590.25cm whereas Triplochiton scleroxylon seedlings recorded 0.910.48cm. The height of Terminalia superbaseedlings was 42.609.43cm whiles Triplochiton scleroxylon seedlings was 71.2026.67cm. The plant condition scoreacross the different canopy types range from 0-5 for Terminalia superba and 2-5 for Triplochiton scleroxylon. The number ofleaves ranged from 0-14 for Terminalia superba and 5-15 for Triplochiton scleroxylon. The soil bulk density of the skid trailwas significantly (p<0.05) increased by 25.8% whereas the landing bay soil bulk density was significantly (p<0.05) increasedby 59.2% compared to the control. The soil porosity of the skid trail soil significantly (p<0.05) reduced by 12.5% but thelanding bay soil porosity significantly (p<0.05) reduced by 45.3% relative to the control. The skid trail forest disturbance soilhad the moisture content increased by 0.30% whereas the landing bay soil moisture content decreased by 63.2% comparedto the control. Generally, the growth performance of Terminalia scleroxylon seedlings in the three selected gap types wasbetter than Terminalia superba.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe variations in macronutrient concentrations of the leaves of Terminalia superba and Pycanthus angolensis were studied and the concentrations of nutrients in leaves before abscission were compared with those after abscission. The amounts of nutrients returned to the forest floor were also computed from litter fall data at the start of maximum annual fall in the Reserve. With the exception of potassium in Pycanthus angolensis, there were significant variations in the nutrient concentrations of the two species with the time of year. With increasing leaf age the concentration of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium declined in Terminalia superba while magnesium concentration decreased in Pycanthus angolensis leaves. Furthermore, calcium showed an increasing concentration in Terminalia superba with increase in leaf age. The concentrations of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium decreased before leaf fall. Estimated losses in nitrogen phosphorus and potassium before abscission were 44, 53 and 50%, respectively, whereas generally there was an increase (40%) in the concentration of calcium at leaf fall. Magnesium did not follow a definite pattern. The return of calcium through litter fall to the forest floor was the greatest of all the major elements. The distribution and variation of foliar nutrient concentrations in the leaves of Terminalia superba and Pycanthus angolensis and the importance of the amount of litter and the concentration of the various nutrients in the influencing soil fertility are discussed.

Abstract:
Terminalia superba Engler & Diels (Combretaceae) is used in cameroonian traditional medicine for thé treatment of hypertension (HT). The aim of this thesis was to provide scientifical of it traditional use. We evaluated thé effects of an aqueous extract (AQUE) of T. superba in normal rats or in glucose or ethanol induced hypertensive rats. The AQUE had an hypotensive, antihypertensive and antioxydative effect. Four extracts of T. superba: aqueous (AQU), méthanol (MET), méthylène chloride (MC) and methanol/methylene chloride (MCM) extracts showed vasorelaxant effects on rat aortic rings endothelium stripped or not, contracted with phénylephrine or potassium chloride. The MC extract was thé most potent. It reduced thé calcium fluxes in vascular smooth muscle cells. The MC extract had an antihypertensive effect in spontaneously hypertensive rat, associated with a decreased in oxidative stress assessed by measuring thé rate of urine 8-iso-PGF2a and reduced endothelial dysfunction. This extract did not affect diuresis, or thé activity of hepatic cytochrome P450 3A. The AQU and MC extracts appeared slightly toxic, with LDso respectively greater than 5000 mg/kg and 2000 mg/kg. The MC extract at doses of 300 and 600 mg/kg induced areas of vascular congestion and inflammation réversible after discontinuation. In conclusion, our study validâtes thé pharmacological traditional use of T. superba as a treatment for hypertension. The prospects of this work will aim at identifying thé pure compounds that cause thé cardiovascular activity of this plant, and further toxicological studies to ensure their safety

Abstract:
Asexual propagation and morphogenetic clonal variability of Terminalia superba Engler and Diels (Limba) in South Congo. Genetic improvement of Terminalia superba by asexual propagation has been studied in Congo as part of an industrial reforestation project. One hundred elite Limba, selected in South Congo forests, were cloned and since 1976 have been studied in several trials. A technique of establishing cuttings is now well understood and the growth of clones is encouraging, but rejuvenation remains unsatisfactory, particularly as it affects branching. This thesis concludes with a suggested breeding scheme involving both sexual and asexual propagation of material being tested in recently established provenance trials

Abstract:
Terminalia superba, a West and Center African rain forest species, is one of the first hard wood for exportation and afforestation. The short term strategy of the species genetic improvement is based on the indivudal selection and the vegetative propagation of the bests. The classical propagation of adult trees by taking cuttings is difficult and is an obstacle to the evaluation of selected clones. The in vitro microcutting should allow the vegetative propagation of aged trees. The varioces stages of the culture have been successfully undertaken in this initial work on in vitro microcutting of Terminalia superba. It is essential to prepare the stock plants to start axenic cultures, and the primary explant has to be carefully chosen to make sure its meristemetic activity will start again in vitro. The multiplication stage by axillary budding in bushes can produce more than 80,000 microcuttings in a year. The shoot issued from the multiplication stage have difficulty to root and this seems to be linked to their elongation; on the other hand the rooting ability depends on the morphogenetic age of the initial material and also varies from one clone to another for young material. The use of double phase culture media for the multiplication stage improves elongation and the concomitent rooting of the shoots. A system of partial automation of the multiplication stage has been developped from this double phase media. The adaptation of the rooted cuttings to the in vivo conditions has easily been obtained

Abstract:
Optics is considered a potential candidate for the realization of logic devices, digital optical systems for communication, and computation exploiting its super-fast speed. Optical logic gates also can act on the basis of frequency conversion process of some nonlinear materials. Further, in this chapter, the authors have mentioned the dibit representation technique for reducing bit error problem at the input and output terminals of all optical digital logic circuits and a control input for selecting particular logic operation. Here the authors have proposed frequency encoded all optical dibit-based integrated AND and OR logic gates with control input, where a single circuit acts as both AND logic gate and OR logic gate using the optical switches like reflected semiconductor optical amplifier and add/drop multiplexer.

The final chapter accounts for Ballard’s later career and is broken into two parts. The first, “Specters of Nature in Culture,” is devoted to Hello America, The Day of Creation and Rushing to Paradise, which are set in perilous natural landscapes where the technologies of late capitalism and electronic media render the human condition terminally performative, more a product of the “reality studio” than the real world. The second part, “Zones of Terror and Ennui,” examines Running Wild, Cocaine Nights, Super-Cannes, Millennium People and Kingdom Come. Set in gated communities, these so-called “crime novels” problematize the socio-psychological effects of consumer-capitalist life and hinge on an existential fear of bourgeois ennui, the pursuit of agential violence, and the discovery of truth and freedom in madness.

Abstract:
Ayurveda is an age old system of medicine which utilizes thousands of medicinal plants, rich in secondary metabolites for their therapeutic benefits and phenolic compounds are important one. Plant phenolic compounds are one of the major group of phytomolecules having tremendous therapeutic and nutraceutical potential. Indian medicinal plants like Emblica, Terminalia spp., Withania, Tinospora etc. are some of the potential source of bioactive phenolics and had been used from ages in various Ayurvedic formulations and were scientifically validated too. In this contribution, a brief account of some common Indian medicinal plants rich in bioactive phenolics are summarized along with their therapeutic action on human health and disease. The vast array of phenolics in these plants makes them a suitable candidate for modern medicine, nutraceutical supplements, immuno-modulatory formulations etc. With the advent of modern separation tools and techniques, it is now possible to identify, isolate and purify desired phytoconstituents from plant extracts. This further opens the avenues of utilizing medicinal plants or plant constituents/metabolites as super food for strengthening the body and maintaining the healthy work-life balance. The need of the hour is to identify therapeutically potential phenolics rich plants and development of herbal formulations for human welfare.

Developments in communications and broadcast, in addition to wireless technologies, have greatly increased the demand for radio spectrum, an ‘invisible’ natural resource that is, practically speaking, finite or scarce. Although the last decade has witnessed the phenomenal growth worldwide of mobile terminal equipment and wireless networks and services, commentators advise that we ‘ain’t seen nothing yet’ and are merely at the start of what will be possible with the ‘marriage of high-quality, super-fast mobile connections and billions of devices’. Various factors have contributed to these developments which may ultimately bridge the ‘digital divide’, including the evolution of mobile broadband internet technologies, the migration of telecommunications providers to IP networks, the development of reasonably priced ‘smart’ handsets, constantly evolving digitized mobile multimedia and other content, mobile software applications and services, maturing markets for mobile voice telephony, and the growing demand for ubiquitous internet connectivity.

The exercise identified efficiency trends fluctuating between 87.5% to 1000% within CONCOR owing to haphazard infrastructure developed while comparison with private players showed 38.31% to 77.59% efficiency fluctuation concurrent to licensing policy norms.

Abstract:
Super-long amplitude transformer is an indispensable part of ultrasonic vibration system, often used in high power ultrasound applications. This paper put forward a new method to design and analyze super-long amplitude transformer. Firstly, by using the mechanical four-terminal network method to solve one dimensional longitudinal vibration equation, the frequency and vibration ratio of the ultrasonic transformer are obtained. Thereafter, two types amplitude transformers design scheme can be got by theoretical calculation, i.e. exponential and conical amplitude transformer. Finally, using FEM software ANSYS to analyze the modal, stress distribution and harmonic response of the amplitude transformer. According to the finite element simulation results, each of amplitude transformers has advantages and disadvantages. Compared with theoretical results, it is satisfied with demands of engineering. A new way is carried out for design and optimality of super-long amplitude transformer.

Abstract:
As Japan has increasingly becoming a so-called “super-aging society,” and the number of people with mobility impairment has increased, the barrier-free improvements have been implemented to public facilities so far. After the New Barrier-free Law has been enforced, however, the conceptual basis of such improvements has been shifting toward the universal design, based on the idea that everybody should be able to use facilities impartially. This study clarifies the present situation and problems of the barrier-free improvements from a passenger ship terminal to the inside of a ship, and elucidates improvement issues of nodal points of future marine and land transport. We carried out a questionnaire and site survey for the Hiroshima Port Ujina Passenger Boat Terminal, as well as the ships used, where the improvements are made based on the New Barrier-free Law.

Abstract:
In the present study, we investigate the effect of contaminant to the motion of a rising bubble. As is well-known, a bubble in contaminated water rises much slower than that in pure water and the rising velocity in contaminated system can be less than a half of that in pure system. Further, Zhang & Finch [1] recently reported very interesting phenomenon through experiment. They reported that transient distance to reach steady terminal velocity also strongly depends on the surfactant concentration in bulk liquid. Here, we conducted numerical simulations of rising bubble related to this phenomenon, taking “Marangoni effect” into account. We also conducted the experiment related to this phenomenon, using super-purified water with the addition of various amount of three kinds of surfactants (1-pentanol, 3-pentanol and Triton X-100). It is shown that the present numerical results represent the experimental results well and that the transient phenomenon largely depends on the surfactant characteristics.
