Abstract:
Mushrooms are generally used by rural populations during lean periods to replace meat, fish and vegetables. This study was conducted with a view to adding value to wild mushrooms, particularly those most commonly consumed in Man (Termitomyces titanicus, Termitomyces letestui, Volvariella volvacea, Auricularia cornea and Psathyrella tuberculata). The chemical composition and nutritional value of each species were determined. The five edible mushroom species are energy-dense foods (190.49 Kcal/100g to 335.84 Kcal/100g), rich in carbohydrates (31.17 g/100g to 56.57g/100g), proteins (13.19 g/100g

Abstract:
Significant socio-economic, spiritual, nutritional and medicinal needs of the countrysides in Central Africa region are obtainable from macrofungi. Conversely, anthropogenic activities and climate change have led to a reduction in the habitats of mushrooms which has led to some mushrooms becoming endangered. A dearth of information on the ecology, management and composition of mushrooms in Central Africa exists. Hence a review was systematically carried out on published mycological research outcomes from Central African countryside, to delineate the way forward. It was observed that the level

Abstract Background: Bacterial infections involving the multidrug resistant (MDR) strains are among the top leading causes of death throughout the world. Healthcare system across the globe has been suffering from an extra-ordinary burden in terms of looking for the new and more potent antimicrobial compounds. The aim of the present study was to determine the antibacterial activity of some Cameroonian edible plants (Garcinia lucida bark, Phoenix dactylifera pericarps, Theobroma cacao pod, Solanum macrocarpon leaves and Termitomyces titanicus whole plant) and their antibiotics-potentiation effec

Macrofungi are diverse in their uses as food and medicine and several species serve as decomposers and also form mycorrhizal associations. Awing forest reserve is diverse in plants and fungi species. However, no work has been carried out to assess the diversity and traditional knowledge of macrofungi in the area. Diversity surveys were carried out in three altitudes using transects of 50×20 m for six months in 2015. Ethnomycology studies were carried out in fifteen communities using focus group discussion, pictorial presentation, and questionnaires. The data was analyzed using descriptive stat

Poverty and malnutrition are highly implicated in the epidemiology, prevalence and poor management of noma. Local mushroomsof the gens Termitomyces have been used in parts of northern Nigeria and Cameroon to improve health of noma patients, but detail studies to authenticate the effect of this medicinal mushroom on specific chronic diseases such as noma remain inadequate. Termitomyces R. Heim, a basidiomycete fungus lives in a mutualistic symbiosis with termites of the subfamily Macrotermitinae. This study explored the cultural properties and macro-micromorphological characters including scanning electron microscopic studies of ten Termitomyces species collected from different parts of Tanzania. Pure cultures were isolated from the asexual fruit bodies growing on or near the termite mound by tissue culture techniques in three different media Ghosh, Hagem Modess, and Modified Malt Extract Agar.
