Abstract:
This thesis provided a definition and conceptual framework for hospital disaster resilience; it used a mixed-method, including an empirical study in tertiary hospitals of Shandong Province in China, to devise an assessment instrument for measuring hospital resilience. The instrument is the first of its type and will allow hospitals to measure their resilience levels. The concept of disaster resilience has gained prominence in the light of the increased impact of various disasters. Background: Hospital-based research provides important insight into the burden of suicide behaviour and methods used in deliberate self-harm (DSH). The information on methods used in DSH may be useful to plan suicide-related intervention and prevention programmes. We aimed to investigate the socio-demographic and clinical factors associated with the methods used in DSH at a tertiary hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. Methods: Socio-demographic, clinical and treatment data were collected from 238 consecutive DSH patients who presented for emergency department treatment at the hospital. Univar

Abstract:
Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumannii) is now increasingly recognised as an important cause of nosocomial infections in paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) patients, particularly in developing countries, where it contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality. Furthermore, it has been documented that emerging antimicrobial resistance patterns complicate antibiotic choice in these patients. At present, more paediatric data is needed regarding these infections. This is a retrospective case-control study that aims to document the demographic data and relevant clinical details of patients

Abstract:
INTRODUCTION The electroencephalography (EEG), since its inception in the 1930s, has become one of the most used investigative tools in psychiatry. Its uses include exclusion of seizure disorders and encephalopathic conditions. In psychiatry distinguishing between a primary psychiatric disorder and psychiatric manifestations of an underlying medical condition is of vital importance. This determines which course of management the psychiatrist should follow, and most importantly, determines the prognosis. However, EEG studies done in psychiatry have yielded unfavourable results.
