Full textPeripheral Arterial Diseased (PAD) is a major concern regarding their clinical care since a revascularization intervention is indicated below the cut-off point of 300 m. In clinical routine, MWD is usually assessed with clinical questionnaires, a highly subjective method, and with walking treadmill tests that are design-dependent and that hardly reproduce the usual pain of the patients during the walk. Therefore, the aim of this doctoral work is to test the validity of innovative methodologies based on GPS and Transcutaneous Pressure in Oxygen (TcPO2) during a treadmill test with respect to the assessment of the functional limitation in PAD patients. The first study shows that scores of the Estimation of Ambulatory Capacity by History-Questionnaire and MWD that is declared by the patients are more related to the GPS-measured MWD (that reflects the spontaneous walking pattern) than to the scores of the Walking Impairment Questionnaire, the 6-min walking test, and the walking treadmill test. The second study evidences the relevance of the use of TcPO2 during a walking treadmill test in detecting ischemia during exercise among patients with normal Ankle to brachial Index. The third and fourth studies show the reliability of the GPS as well as its applicability to the evolvement of the walking parameters following revascularization. Finally, the fifth study suggests that the GPS-accelerometer coupling is able to estimate the energy expenditure of PAD patients. To conclude, actimetry (e.g., GPS, accelerometer) and exercise TcPO2 are valid and reliable methods to evaluate the walk of PAD patients

Full textThe reference method for assessment of exercise capacity is the cardio-pulmonary exercise testing (CPET). Nevertheless, CPET is expensive, time consuming, requires specifics skills and is not used for all subjects needing exercise capacity assessment. The 6 minute walk test (6MWT) is free of these disadvantages but does not give basic information about physiological adaptation induced by walking. The aim of this study was to design a non-invasive method for ventilatory and locomotor monitoring. Respect of the spontaneous aspects of these adaptations was considered. Respiratory inductive plethysmography (RIP) was considered for ventilatory evaluation whereas locomotor adaptation was assessed with a tri-axial accelerometer. These new methods provided acceptable results for ventilatory and locomotor dimensions. Confronting our new RIP method with a pneumotachograph as a reference device, we found correlation coefficients from. 0.81 to 0.96 for determination of tidal volume (Vt), inspiratory (Ti) and expiratory time (Te). Confronting our accelerometric method with video recordings as control, we found significant correlation coefficients (r=0.99 and p< 0.001) for determination of cadence, mean step length and automatic distance covered (6MWD) during the 6MWT. Comparisons of ventilatory and locomotor pattern of control and obese without comorbidities showed that discriminating their pattern was possible (p<0.01 for Vt, Ti, Te and p<0.001 for cadence, mean step length and 6MWD). These results imply that even a population without respiratory disorders as the obese population considered in this study, can be discriminated with our monitoring method. It can be concluded that this method is promising for improvement of care to obese subjects and raises technological and clinical perspectives for subjects with respiratory disorders

Full textObesity is a chronic disease and its prevalence is constantly increasing. The origin of obesity is multifactorial, and it comes with many comorbidities including systemic hypertension, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia and obstructive sleep apnea. Several approaches are available for the management of patients with obesity. Among these multiple approaches, there are non-pharmacological measures, which include pharmacotherapy and bariatric surgery. The evaluation of cardiorespiratory capacity in the context of severe obesity involves a lot of difficulties. However, it remains the gold standard for non-invasive cardiac assessment. Patients with severe obesity have a reduced exercise capacity, which is associated with a higher cardiovascular risk and a high mortality rate. Their limitations are manifold and can be explained by the cardiovascular, pulmonary or muscular system. The cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) with direct measurements is the gold standard for cardiorespiratory evaluation. In regards of practical purposes, alternative stress tests exist for cardiorespiratory evaluation. The 6-minute walk test (6MWT) is a simple and practical test that is used to assess functional capacity. The main objective of this master’s thesis is to compare the physiological response between the 6MWT and the CPET in patients with severe obesity. Our research has shown that a comparable maximum capacity was reached in both tests according to cardiac parameters (heart rate and oxygen pulse) and pulmonary parameters (VO2 peak (oxygen consumption), respiratory rate, tidal volume and ventilation/carbon dioxide production) which suggests that no significant differences has been observed. Additional research is needed to determine its clinical utility with patients with severe obesity.

Full textThe aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of a home-based physical activity incentive program on the 6 minutes walking distance performance (6MWT) and its evolution, 6 months after the end of the program. This is a comparative, prospective, randomized, single-blind and monocentric clinical trial. Participants were 84 post-stroke patients (average age 61.7 ± 13.2 years, time since stroke 2.5 ± 1.5 months). Forty-two patients were randomly assigned to an experimental group (EG) and the other forty-two to a control group (CG). EG followed a home-based physical activity incentive program for 6 months. Three incentive methods have been used; an accelerometer (Armband Sensewear, Bodymedia), weekly telephone calls, and home visits every three weeks. In addition, educational session about physical activity and information about physical activity recommendations were conducted before the start of the protocol. CG received general information about physical activity benefits and post-stroke practicing activity recommendations. Other assessment criteria were functional ambulatory classification (FAC), barthel index (BI), motricity index (MI), quality of life (Euroqol-5D), body composition, the health care communication questionnaire (HCCQ), visual analog scale of pain (VAS), the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS), the multidimensional fatigue inventory 20 questionnaire (MFI-20). Patients were evaluated before intervention (T0), after intervention (T1) and 6 months after the end of the program (T2). Walking distance increased significantly in the EG between T0 and T1 (18%, p<0.001); however, there was not a significantly difference between EG and CG at T1 (p=0.30). The score of FAC increased significantly (+0.75, p=0.02) in EG at T1, but it was different between EG and CG (p=0.0013). Furthermore, MFI-20 score decreased significantly at T1 (-4.6, p<0.001) for the EG, it results was different between both groups (p<0.001). The program effects on walking distance (p=0.75), functional ability (p=0.17), and fatigue (p=0.74) at T2 were maintained. No significant effect of other variables was found. In addition, at the end of the program, the EG achieved the physical activity recommendation per day, step number (5955 ± 5475) and activity duration (105 ± 75 minutes)

Full textThis dissertation aims to investigate the different mechanisms of value creation within horizontal mergers. Three theoretical perspectives are considered : 1) the micro-economic approach based on scale economies, 2) the io approach based on the notion of market power, and 3) the resource-based view of the firm. The results show the relevance to take into account the resource-based view to account for motivations of horizontal mergers and to validate the limitations associated with traditional theories based on economy of scale and market power

Full textEffective interventions such as physical activity leading to disability prevention in the elderly are a public health priority. Disability outcome measures should ideally include objective measures such as physical performance tests. This work demonstrates the test-retest reliability of a new walking test (the 400-m usual pace walk test), the association between calf circumference and muscle-related disability and the predictive value of the short physical performance battery on mortality. Physical activity appears to be an effective strategy to delay disability. This work adds further evidence, especially in the frail elderly population (patients with Alzheimer's disease, obesity or malnutrition) of its health benefits

Full textModern financial theory aims to assess financial assets. It is based on the portfolio selection of markowitz and sharpe's studied with the capital asset pricing model (capm), which gave them the nobel prize for economics in 1990. This model shows a basic linear relationship between risk and return. The body of conflicting evidence about this model has led to a new formulation derived from linear algebra called the arbitrage pricing theory (apt) of stephen ross. This model admits that return can be explained by numerous common sources of risk and it requires fewer underlying assumptions than the capm. Can apt thus present a potential alternative to the capm? the answer will be formulated at the end of the investigation of the new model and the confrontation of the two models it is the main objective of this dissertation. The contributions for the thesis cover with three fields: - a review of literature concerning apt to understand different theoritical and empirical versions developped, - an identification of the number and an assignation economic meaning to the risk factors ot the paris stock exchange. It can be done with an endogeneous approach (classic apt), exogeneous approach (apt with macro-economic variables). And a new proposition with the possibility of linking this model to for-specific characteristics "apt with mesoeconomic variables". - spatio-intertemporal transposition of the apt in different areas providing many subjects for future research. Thus we can solve the problem : "apt is an alternative model to capm"

Full textThe purpose of this research is to demonstrate the role of market orientation, perceived value and market performance in the context of customer value creation. This has been the subject of numerous conceptual discussions but to date few empirical findings have been advanced. Conceptualising customer value creation involves considering the contributions of four strands of literature: research into market-oriented strategies, into the consequences of market orientation, into how value is perceived by the customer from a dual perspective and into subjective market performance indicators. Customer value creation is conceptualised in the form of a series of relations between these variables, within the reference framework of integrated "market-oriented value creation" models. These models identify in particular the market mechanisms through which organisational performance passes, i. E. How market orientation influences perceived value, which in turn influences market performance. The main objective of this empirical research is to demonstrate how one organisational factor - market orientation - influences: first, the relationship between perceived customer value and a number of variables reflecting market performance, satisfaction, customer loyalty and corporate reputation; and, secondly, the average and aggregate perceived value and satisfaction scores. The research focuses on market orientation as evaluated by 146 managers of 54 corporate brands and the opinions of 425 consumers of the branded products that these companies market. The findings support the theory relating to correlation between market orientation, perceived value and market performance. Moreover they indicate how perceived value affects market performance. This corroborates the theory that a business that creates value which the consumer perceives to be superior will see improved market performance. Consequently, creating more customer value leads to better market performance

Full textCurrently it’s possible to observe that the area devoted to memory elements in embedded systems (Systems-on-Chip, SoC) occupies the largest portion of the integrated circuits and due to the advance in Very Deep Sub-Micron (VDSM) technology is possible to integrate millions of transistors on a single area. The high integration causes new types of defects not only during the fabrication, but also during the lifetime of memories. These new challenges require the development of new methodologies to test SRAMs able not only to detect faults associated with functional models in memories, but also associated with resistive-open defects. In this context, the development of more efficient and effective methodologies is extremely important to ensure the quality of the manufacturing process and the field operation. Thus, the objective of this work is to develop an innovative test technique based simultaneously on the coupling of existing March tests with built-in current sensors to monitor static current dissipation. The validation of the test methodology proposed in this work was based on electrical simulations of a SRAM, where resistors were placed into cells to induce abnormal current consumption. Simulations were performed in HSPICE and COSMOS under the Synopsys framework. From the obtained results, we verify the detection capability of the proposed test strategy with respect to permanent faults generated in the SRAM. Clearly, the advantage of the proposed methodology was the reduced test complexity, i. e., the reduced test application time required to detect the target faults in comparison with existing algorithms, while maintaining the same fault coverage.

Full textThe main theme of this work concerns specification tests. What is meant by that is a set of procedures which has been used in the econometric literature since recent times and which allows validity or rejection of the specification hypothesis of a model : choice of variables, exogenous characteristics of some of them, choice of the dynamics structure. . . Rather than testing a hypothesis giving a specific value to parameters, one tries to find out whether the set of selected probabilities contains the "genuine" law from which data is issued. The work is organised in the following manner : - a theoretical section aimed at giving a rigorous framework where the main definitions concerning the specification of statistical model are presented within the privileged framework of a bayesian structure - a survey of recent literature on classical tests of specification with a special emphasis on their asymptotic properties. - a presentation of a bayesian approach of specification tests. - an example of application to a dynamical macro-economic model of the labour market in France in which exogeneity of the real salary is tested in the functions of labour search and supply

Full textTraditional psychometric and/or neuropsychologic tests alone, are not powerful enough to detect cognitive disturbances in aging subjects and therefore new criteria and tests should be developed to get relevant screening tools. Since walking is not anymore considered as a pure automatic motor task but as a task depending both on cognitive and executive functions (EF), clinicians became interested in studying walking disturbances in the course of neurodegenerative pathology development. Walking tasks can be complex and could be assimilated as a double-task (DT) when individuals have to simultaneously proceed with cognitive and motor tasks. Several authors have suggested that disturbances in walking abilities could predict cognitive disorders (e.g. Alzheimer Disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)). Therefore, walking abilities should specifically be evaluated during cognitive clinical investigation. The main goal of our work is to evaluate whether a walking task alone and/or walking tasks in the context of DT could be of interest in detecting early stages of cognitive disorders in the elderly. A secondary goal is to investigate what are the executive functions that can influence walking during a DT. The originality of our approach also stems from the new motor ability tests we have developed. They are based on validated neuropsychological tests (Corsi, Stroop and Trail Making Tests) and are adapted to the context of walking. Moreover, we also present an adaptation of the Stroop test in the situation of a pedestrian at the cross light intending to cross a street ("ecological Stroop test").Our results show that DT situations induce specific changes in walking scheme in the elderly with established cognitive disorders and also -and this is one of our most important result- with borderline patients. We also show that the DT we tested required the involment of several EF.In conclusion, the new tests we present could be of interest in detecting early stages of cognitive disorders in elderly subjects and moreover can give clues to the mechanisms involved in the regulation of executive functions

Full textDespite the environmental and climate concerns, steam coal is still the first thermal energy used in the electricity generation worldwide. Faced to an increasing global demand, the steam coal seaborne market is developing considerably. From the 2000s, the steam coal maritime market faces several economic structural changes. The aim of this PhD dissertation is to bring a structural analysis of the steam coal maritime market from the 2000s. Through this research, we want to determine the economic and institutional factors helping to explain the configuration of the market. This PhD thesis involves three chapters. In the first chapter, we define the market over product space. Then, we describe the value chain of the steam coal industry in order to highlight the factors explaining the evolution of the industry, particularly by the oil crisis in the 1970s. In the second chapter, we empirically analyze the configuration of the steam coal maritime market and its evolution from 2000 to 2010. This analysis emphasizes the degree by which the seaborne transport costs and freight costs may represent a relevant barrier to entry on the market. Finally, in the third chapter, we determine the factor(s) explaining the schema and the configuration of the world steam coal market. To do so, we model the exporters’ behavior and their entry strategy faced to unit freight and seaborne costs in a predefined market structure

Full textThis work, through a radical qualitative research methodology, proposes a reframing of the didactical role of the text commentary at the classroom of secondary level in the Comunitat Valenciana (Spain). From this stand point, a general discussion about language didactics and the whole spanish educational system is made.Discursive analysis, emanated from french commentaire, has become a real evaluation resource for all kind of competences; in contradiction, its utility, its function, even the model of commentary have been put at stake. In fact, text commentary is nowadays more an evaluation goal than a pedagogical resource. Critical literature on this subject -limited to the study area- and the testimonies of informants have been reviewed in order to obtain an overview about the definition and utility of text commentary in an education founded in competences. Moreover, this work makes a pedagogical proposal to achieve the goal of text commentary as a true learning strategy in language and literary education. It could be asserted that Text Commentary is a kind of activity of activities that generates creative and critical atmospheres, strengthens student's autonomy and challenging feelings, and allows, simultaneously, teamwork through the recreation of real situations. It is an activity that encourages an investigational attitude and can be depicted in three main aspects: 1. procedural method (true model of commentary); 2. conceptual/theoretical apparatus, with great enrichment and adaptability power; 3. and a final essay divided into two parts (analysis and personal reflection and evaluation) that most critical literature has omitted neglecting the Barthes's definition: a commentary is a speech about other speech. Finally, according to the conviction that in a liquid society -as defined by Bauman- education needs to remark procedures and competences and needs resources, like text commentary, which make students skilfuls citizens who can introduce into modern societies in an autonomous, critical manner taking support not only in the rational intelligence but also in the emotional one. This manner, a true discursive pedagogy can be achieved.

The standard four-beat gaited simulation test (TSM) had been used to evaluate four-beat gaited horses´s fitness levels. The objectives of this research were evaluated adaptation of blood electrolytes and biomarkers in equine submitted to TSM. It was used 16 horses (Campolina n=8 and Mangalarga-Marchador n=8), males and females, Age ~6,6 years-old. Blood samples were collected in: fasting (T0), immediately after the warm-up (T1), after 15 (T3) and 30 (T4) min of “marcha” phase and 15 min after recovery period (T5). It was collected: heat rate (FC), [Glucose], [Lactate], [TPP], Hematocrit, [Ca2+], [P+], [Cl-], [K+], [Na+], [Mg2+], [Triglycerides], [Total Cholesterol Total], [Glutamine] e [Glutamate]. Also it was measured horses' speed and distance. Results were analysed by one- and two-way ANOVA and post hoc Holm-Sidak test, with P<0.05. Horses did TSM at ~3.03 m/s, and fit horses had higher [Glucose] and [Lactate] when compared with unfit group (P<0.05). In addition, [TPP] and Hematocrit were higher in T4. [Ca2+] decreased and [P+] and [K+] elevated during the TSM (P<0.05). [Triglyceride] changed significantly but not [T-Cholesterol]. Finally, HR changes but were inside the higher limit to HR for aerobic exercise. In conclusion, "marcha" or four-beat gait is a typical aerobic exercise and produce metabolic adaptation to support horse’s energetic metabolism and electrolyte concentration in the blood.

Full textThis work is devoted to the empirical study of the efficiency of the French CAC 40 index option contract. We investigate this efficiency through tests of the arbitrage relationships during the one-year period surrounding the introduction of the Master Share CAC 40, the Exchange Traded Fund aimed to replicate the CAC 40 index. In the first two chapters of the thesis, we estimate the total transaction costs faced by the institutional investors for the exchange of the CAC 40 constituent stocks. The efficiency tests in the next two chapters are based on high-frequency data of option transactions and index values, which enable us to avoid any asynchronous bias. Ex post, we show that the introduction of ETFs benefited to the efficiency of the market, as both the frequency and the value of the deviations significantly diminished. This result is confirmed in the ex ante analysis conducted for the put-call parity relationship, partly based on a new measure of informational efficiency, the "time to efficiency". Actually, the delay necessary to the market to meet prices compatible with no-arbitrage, after a deviation, is shown to have been divided by more than two after the introduction of ETFs

Full textThe goal of this study is to present and to test empirically the evaluation models for financial assets taking into account the impact of inflation : the "fisher effect", the nominal contracts and the capital asset pricing model under uncertain inflation (capmui). The importance of theis phenomenon for the financial market needs to be stressed, especially in the inflationary context of the brazilian stock market. This one, of growing importance worldwide, is vita l for the latin-american economy. The most relevant approaches on anticipating inflation are described. In addition, these three models are used to test a sample of shares quoted on the sao paulo stock exchange. This shows that the negative relationship between stock returns and inflation does not prove to be quite true. At the same time, the nominal contracts model by integrating variables, specific to the corporation, highlights the different factors that influence the probability of financial assets. The tests implemented show that non-anticipated inflation plays an important role in the assessment of the value of firm s by the financial market. Despite these findings, one has to admit, in the framework of the brazilian stock exchange, that the validation of the models was influenced by the several phases of economic shock treatment applied during the period under investigation

Full textThe relationship between investor sentiment and asset valuation is at the center of a long-running debate in behavioral finance. The purpose of this thesis is to study the impact of investor sentiment on the stock return. First of all, this thesis develops a new measure of investor sentiment witch combines both the direct and indirect indicators. Using vector autoregressive model, we find that investor sentiment affect stocks whose valuations are highly subjective and are difficult to arbitrage. Furthermore, we find that past returns are an important determinant of sentiment. Lastly, we find that our composite index provide a better predictive power than three alternative proxies for investor sentiment. Secondly, we test if the financial markets price the investor's sentiment risk. We construct portfolios considering the stock returns exposure to sentiment. Our results show that the performance is positively correlated with the exposure of stock to sentiment. The strategy consisting in buying the stocks with the highest exposure to sentiment and selling stocks having the lowest exposure generates a significant raw profit. Exploring the sources of profitability, we show that neither the traditional risk factors nor the momentum factor can account for the profitability. However, the addition of the sentiment risk, will contribute to the explanation of the profit

Full textThe piece of work’s aim is to understand information diffusion in financial markets. Starting from the empirical evidences that agents are heterogeneous and bounded rational, we based our investigations on a class of computational models for simulating the actions and interactions of autonomous agents: the agent - based model (ABM). More precisely, this research focuses on the impacts of agents heterogeneity in diffusion and use of information. For this purpose, we developed two market structures, in which the market transparency varies. In the chapters 1 and 2, we introduce a centralised market, where a part of the order-book is available as a public information. In the chapter 3, we build an Over-The-Counter market, where agents bargains with their trading contacts

Introduction: The 6-minute walk test (6MWT) is one of the most frequently employed among the submaximal exercise capacity tests, with a limited use in clinical practice due to its requirement for a large physical space. Therefore, a virtual reality-assisted 6- Minute Stationary March Test (6MSMT-VR) is proposed as a modern and alternative tool for exercise capacity assessment in small-sized environments. Objectives: To compare and correlate physiological variables, energy expenditure (EE) and number of steps (NS) between the 6MWT and the 6MSMT-VR, using the first one as the standard. Methods: Apparently healthy subjects, aged 18 to 60 years old, were assessed by physical examination, spirometry, tested for physical activity level and later grouped as active (A) or non-active (NA). They, then, performed each test twice and answered a self-tailored satisfaction survey. Each result obtained was later compared and correlated. Results: In spite of the significant difference in NS between tests (p<0.001), a positive correlation (r=0.50) was found between them. A positive correlation was also found between the NS in the 6MSMT-VR and the total distance (TD) in the 6MWT (r=0.48) and for every other correlation value in the NA group. The EE, nevertheless, had a positive correlation value only for A group (r=0.40). No significant differences were obtained for hemodynamic variables and dyspnea, albeit the majority of patients (55%) reported greater Lower Limb Fatigue in the 6MSMT-VR. Conclusion: The 6MSMT-VR was well tolerated by the study’s population and may, thus, be considered an alternative to the 6MWT.

Full textThe experimental origins of subliminal suggestion go back to 1917 with the work of freud and poetzl, even if leibniz, as early as the 18th century, was among the first to identify subliminal stimuli in their natural form, giving them the name of "minor perceptions". Yet, despite half a century of tests. Science is still unable either to confirm or refute conclusively the existence of such an impact. Our research hypothesis is as follows: we think that we are in a position to note a minimum clinical modification of 20% between decision-making behaviour of individuals not submitted to subliminal suggestion (i. E. The control group) and those of the two test groups exposed to subliminal stimuli. Statistically, the object of our experimenting is to use the test hypothesis of khi-square in order to arrive at a quantified verification of elements initially identified theoretically. According to our post-experiment results (i. E. Part two), there appears to be no doubt that the impact of subliminal suggestion on decision-making behaviour is substantial; in fact, we shall show that our research hypothesis was insufficiently ambitious, the optimal hypothesis settling down, according to our algorithm, at 30%. Finally, before envisaging further research perspectives, we propose an extension to the behavioural model of engel, kollat & blackwell which seems to us to help it better integrate with our variable (i. E. Part two). Our conclusions presuppose that our theoretical demonstration (i. E. Part one) is empirically verifiable: subliminal suggestion is a tangible communication tool in terms of orientation and modification of consumer motivation, one that business must accept as being at the heart of worldwide competition

Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate kinematics characteristics, peak moment and the cardiovascular effort during neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) stimulated gait of paraplegic patients. Eleven healthy control subjects (CG) and 10 paraplegic subjects (PG) with lesion levels between T4 and TIO were assessed. The kinematic and kinetic data were collected by a six-camera system ProReflex (Qualisys) and a force plate - AMTI. The PG walked aided by a walker, an ankle foot orthosis and a four channel NMES system, that stimulated the quadriceps muscular group and the fibular nerve. The six min walking test (6MWT) was done and heart rate, blood pressure and distance were measured. The kinetic results showed that in PG moment peaks, stride, cadence, speed and angle range were lower than in CG. The 6MWT demonstrated the high energy cost of PG during gait. Results suggest that NMES gait training for paraplegic individuaIs is of low risk towards causing lower lifub joint lesions and this type of walking also requires a high amount of energy and can be used to improve cardio respiratory conditioning to these patients

Full textThe purpose of this study is to investigate electrophysiological parameters related to diabetic neuropathy and biomechanical parameters during gait, by systemized methodology, including electrodiagnostic tests and dynamic gait evaluation. We have analysed temporal aspects during stance phase, plantar pressure distribution, and ground reaction forces, acquired by an specific equipment in three experimental groups. We also have studied electrophysiological parameters related to somatic sensorial responses, like sensitive cronaxie and pain tolerance threshold, in some specific anatomical areas of plantar surface. Within these parameters, we searched for defined gait patterns in neuropathic diabetic patients, as well as in diabetic patients without neuropathy, to intervene in a more complex description and interpretation of the disease. We also looked for some relations of dependency between dynamic and electrophysiological variables as a contribution to the better undestanding of the disease ethiology and dynamic compensatory mechanisms in pathological gait. These compensatory mechanisms are usually bilateral, because it is a way of adapting to the sensorial deficit due to the neuropathy. Although there are no observed correlation between these variables, it is good to emphasize that such relationship becomes gradually more important to the understanding of the disease and the interpretation of its different adaptative reactions in human locomotion

The physical exercise is the most physiological stressful stimulus that exists, because it submits the organism to the great changes aiming at the maintenance of the muscular activity. The present study measured hematological biomarkers, digestion and oxidative stress in the blood of horses submitted to gait simulation test, and horses in maintenance and training, treated with a mixture of oils rich in omega 3 and 6. In the experiment 1, twelve Mangalarga Marchador animals were used, and the animals were submitted to the low intensity and medium duration gait simulation test (MST), 4 tests and 2 animals per day, blood samples were collected (T2), after 15 minutes of recovery (T3) and after 4 hours of TSM (T4), and were evaluated: CGV, Hb, HT, CGB, LINFO, VCM, CHCM, PLAQ, CV, RDW-SD, GPx, SOD, PPT, URE, CREAT, ACUr, CK, ALT, AST. In experiment 2: Two different groups of activity were used, one in maintenance (6 adult females) and the other in training for gait tests (10 adult horses), the groups received 100mL and 300mL, respectively, of supplementation of a mixture of oral oils for 8 weeks. Blood samples were collected in three different periods: pre-test, after 4 and 8 weeks in the morning, with fasting animals at 12 hours and at rest, and evaluated: CGV, Hb, HT, CGB, LINFO, RDW-SD, GPx, SOD, PPT, AcUr, CK. We conclude that MST causes changes in biomarkers of oxidative, protein and hematological stress in a significant way, which should be considered in this group of athletes who can participate in competitions with reduced intervals during gait tests. And that the supplementation with polyunsaturated oil and vitamin E raises the blood antioxidants in animals in maintenance and training, with different standards, but contributes to the fight against the oxidative stress characteristic of each group analyzed.

Full textThis thesis is composed of three articles. Each of them asks one question about discriminations. The first article interrogates if Seine-Saint-Denis inhabitants are statistically discriminated on a supposed violence ; where to do a fighting sport would be a violence signal. The second article investigates if Marseille accents are discriminated in the labor market. The third article asks if employers may use the name and the address as proxies to determine job candidates’ accent and, if they infer he holds a poor area accent, to discriminate on the basis of this accent. I use the correspondence study method to reply to these three questions. The first two correspondence studies lead to conclude to the negative to the first two questions. Concerning the third question, even if we cannot reply to it, the third correspondence study proves that the poor area accent is discriminated. Moreover, it shows that the name discrimination may overcomes the address one.General conclusions are that this thesis indicates employers do not take into account the practiced sport to hire and that to elaborate the design of a correspondence study implies to consider weak and strong signals. It also shows that correspondence studies can be used up to the moment where employers contact job applicants by phone and that they have different stereotypes in mind according to the accent they hear. Finally, it proposes to public policy makers to first decrease the name discrimination if they want to significantly impact the total discrimination
