The precise interpretation of quantum mechanics is still open to discussion. A number of non-intercompatible interpretations, with a not unsignificant respective following, are at the time of writing still viable. When Eugene Wigner stated his titular thought experiment he managed to highlight how varying assumptions and accompanying mechanisms can have implications even on a macro-scale. Caslav Brukner expands the thought experiment of Wigner's Friend in his recent paper and derives a theorem using the setup. Genetic factors have been shown to be involved in etiology of a poor response to the antidepressant treatment with sufficient dosage and duration. Our goal was to identify the role of polymorphisms in the poor response to the treatment. To this end, 5 functional polymorphisms in 109 patients diagnosed with unipolar, major depressive disorder are analyzed. Due to the small sample size, exact conditional tests are utilized to analyze the contingency table. The data analysis involves: (1) Exact test for conditional independence in a high dimensional contingency table; (2) Marginal independence te

In analysis of the contingency tables, the Fisher's exact test is a very important statistical significant test that is commonly used to test independence between the two variables. However, the Fisher' s exact test is based upon the assumption of the fixed margins. That is, the Fisher's exact test uses information beyond the table so that it is conservative. To solve this problem, we allow the margins to be random. This means that instead of fitting the count data to the hypergeometric distribution as in the Fisher's exact test, we model the margins and one cell using multinomial distribution

We consider a Bayesian approach to the study of independence in a two-way contingency table obtained from a two-stage cluster sampling design. We study the association between two categorical variables when (a) there are no covariates and (b) there are covariates at both unit and cluster levels. Our main idea for the Bayesian test of independence is to convert the cluster sample into an equivalent simple random sample which provides a surrogate of the original sample. Then, this surrogate sample is used to compute the Bayes factor to make an inference about independence. For the test of indepe

Abstract:
This dissertation aims at developing and testing a new method that can better capture preferences for multistate health profiles. The motivation arose from the failure of the QALY (Quality-Adjusted Life Year) model in adequately capturing preferences in multistate health profiles. The current QALY-based technique captures preferences for multistate health profiles by evaluating each health state in the profile independently of other states. As the past literature showed, this additive independence condition does not hold in practice and hence such approach is inadequate. To address this issue,

Dentre esses déficits está uma disfunção do mecanismo de filtragem sensorial, que pode ser observada através do teste de Inibição Pré-Pulso (IPP), que acessa a inibição das respostas muscular, observada por eletromiografia (EMG) e neural, observada

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this paper a novel speaker recognition system is introduced. Automated speaker recognition has become increasingly popular to aid in crime investigations and authorization processes with the advances in computer science. Here, a recurrent neural network approach is used to learn to identify ten speakers within a set of 21 audio books. Audio signals are processed via spectral analysis into Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients that serve as speaker specific features, which are input to the neural network. The Long Short-Term Memory algorithm is examined for the first time within this area, wit

Abstract:
Speaker recognition is the task of recognizing a speaker of a given speech record and it has wide application areas. In this thesis, various machine learning models such as Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM), k-Nearest Neighbor(k-NN) Model and Support Vector Machines (SVM) and feature extraction methods such as Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) and Linear Predictive Cepstral Coefficients (LPCC) are investigated for the speaker recognition task. Combinations of those models and feature extraction methods are evaluated on many datasets varying on the number of speakers and training data size.
